Anna Celeste Burke is an awarding-winning, USA Today & Wall Street Journal Bestselling author! Welcome! Join me, snooping into life's mysteries with fun, fiction, and food--California style!
Life is an extravaganza and so unpredictable! Figuring out how to hang tough and make the most of the wild ride is the challenge.
On my way to Oahu to join the rock musician and high school drop-out I married in Tijuana, I was nabbed by the police as a runaway. When the police let me go and the rock band broke up, my husband and I had to find another way to survive. Our next stop: Disney World where we trained to be chefs, courtesy of the Walt Disney World University.
A GED for my husband, and many more years of education eventually landed us in academia—with Ph.D.s from the University of Michigan we took professor jobs with U of M’s longstanding football rival, The Ohio State University.
Retired now from my role as a professor in social work and behavioral science, I have picked up a long-time interest in writing fiction. In my professional career I wrote and published widely as a scholar, with more than forty manuscripts of varying lengths on my vita. I also carried out hundreds of training, consulting and speaking engagements on a number of gloriously nerdy topics.
So what on earth does a research scientist have in common with a mystery writer? As avid fans of the mystery genre will tell you at the core of any good mystery is a passionate search for the truth. Discovering the truth involves finding and assembling pieces of complex puzzles in order to solve seemingly intractable problems—scientist and sleuth are cut from the same cloth!
Still married to the same sweet guy, I live with my husband in one of the seven desert resort cities in the Palm Springs area. In addition to reading and writing mysteries I enjoy painting, hiking, hanging out with my handsome husband and tending to my Siamese cats.
The Sonoran Desert is a beautiful setting to ponder life’s mysteries, by the surrounding mountains and the bountiful delights of the desert resort communities. I hope you enjoy reading the books in my three cozy mystery series: The Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery Series, The Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery Series, and the Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series. Cheers! Anna
Awesome characters and plots continue to make this a must read series! Plot twists will keep you turning the pages while the characters and their snappy dialogue exchanges will give you lots of laughs!
Enter the very realistic behind the scenes goings on at Marvelous Marley World and its creator "Mad Max" Marley. Meet Georgie Shaw, a top executive in the company and her soon to be husband, Detective Jack Wheeler as they work to solve a kidnapping on the set of Max's newest live action fantasy film. Working out details (a suitable dress) of a wedding that is only weeks away, while chasing down leads and suspects has Georgie and Jack running. Jealousy, greed, love triangles and one smart cat all play a part in a totally surprise ending.
I enjoy the fact that our main characters are in their 50's and have lots of life experiences to draw on in this well plotted story. The behind the scenes look at an entertainment empire of amusement parks, resorts and movies makes for a great background theme. The characters are lovable and well drawn, while the mystery plot turns you around in circles.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest opinion and fair review.
I really like this series and this is a great addition to the series. The behind the scenes give us a peek of what might be back there at another Wonderful World of park. Enjoyable characters and inventive plots add the right stuff. Thank you Ms Burke!
A Merry Christmas Wedding Mystery is the fourth novella in Anna Celeste Burke’s Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series and is a great read. The characters are well developed and relatable; the story moves at a steady pace and kept my attention from beginning to end. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick, easy, clean read with lots going on and full of witty dialog. I was kept guessing until the final reveal. I would recommend this book, as well as all the books in the series, to anyone who enjoys reading well-crafted cozy mysteries.
Georgie Shaw and Detective Jack Wheeler are preparing for their Christmas wedding. The couple is looking forward to being married by the priest at St. Theresa’s with Max Marley filling in for Georgie’s deceased father by walking her down the aisle and giving her away and the reception at Max’s New Arcadia Visitor Center. Georgia is outraged when it appears Max is trying to assert himself and insist she wear a hooped wedding dress. When Georgia and Jack track down Max to try to straighten the matter out, havoc has broken out during the filming of The Lonely Swan Prince because Princess Christiana, played by Brigit Margolis, walked off the set and refuses to return. Georgia, the peacemaker, talks with the distressed actress, smooths things over, and they come up with a plan but before it can be implemented, Brigit disappears and it appears she may have been injured and/or kidnapped.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
While Georgie and Jack are planning their wedding, Max is in the process of creating a live-action movie remake of one of his animated movies.
When the temperamental actress, Brigit, suddenly disappears and there are additional problems around the set, Jack and Georgie place their plans on a temporary hold to determine who is trying to sabotage the production.
What happened to Brigit? Was she kidnapped? If so, why? Is somebody deliberately sabotaging the production? Can Georgie and Jack unravel the mystery and find Brigit? Will they have to postpone their wedding?
Another well-written mystery from Anna Celeste Burke with plenty of twists to keep you guessing all thhe way to the end.
I read this story as part of the Winter Whodunnits book of cozy mysteries. It was okay. Being the fourth book in the series, I had no context for any of the characters or their relationships. I continue to be surprised that authors chose a book from well into a series of books as a stand alone story in these types of anthologies. It is difficult to engage with characters with so much history. Definitely feels like I am coming into the middle of a story. This one is about the weeks leading up to the wedding of the two main characters, a possible murder and the making of a movie. I'm sure to someone who has read the previous books it was lovely but to me it was confusing. There are lots of references to other occasions and murders. Some of those references go on for pages. I found them boring.
A Merry Christmas Wedding Mystery by Anna Celeste Burke was another great addition to this series that I thoroughly enjoyed. Georgie and Jack are planning their wedding and Georgie has asked Max to walk her down the aisle. This was a first rate mystery with plenty of twists, dialogue that often made me laugh and lovable characters. The books in this series get better with each release.
One of my first books by this author and will have to give another a try. It was an ok read, but not as good as a lot of other cozies that I have read. I did enjoy the parts about their kitties, though. If you are looking for a light read with a smattering of mystery and a happy ending, this is the book for you. Happy reading!
Congrats, Anna Celeste Burke for a terrific mystery. I enjoy a book where I can read, relax and be mystified while at the same time, not terrorized. This is key for me as I do not like violence or books that are too rough. I read to escape and find my bearings, and I do so best in warm, pleasant surroundings.
The characters are well-developed and intriguing, and you won't guess who did it. So, it does become a page-turner. I will definitely read other books in this series.
Georgie & Jack are dealing with plans for their wedding when they get involved in what they hope is a kidnapping and not a murder. Nothing is as it seems the victim is really married, the designer is poisoned and a witch adding snarky comments to the mix. Georgie keeps threatening to run to Vegas to get married, Jack doesn't care as long as they get married.
A Merry Christmas Wedding Mystery is the fourth book in Anna Celeste Burke’s Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series – a series which I simply love to read! I have absolutely grown to love Georgie and her life. In this addition to the series, Georgie and Jack are planning their wedding, within the month (finally I say). The planning quickly escalates to way over the top plans due to Georgie’s boss, “Mad Max” Marley being involved. In an attempt to rein in the plans, Georgia visits Max on the set of a new film where mystery and mayhem soon ensue. And of course – Georgia and fiancée Jack soon become involved in trying to solve the mystery. As if they didn’t have enough on their plates already!
I became totally vested in the story right from the get go! A snippet from a phone conversation right at the beginning of the story re: wedding preparations had me hooked. Gotta love Georgie:
“No! Absolutely not! It’s my wedding. I will not wear a hoop skirt. If you show me a dress like that, I will tear it to bits, and that’s a promise!” …” Really? Go ahead and tell Max. Tell him Georgie Shaw say, ‘no hoops,’ and if he doesn’t like it, that’s a shame!”
As an accountant, I love spreadsheets to keep me organized and I definitely chuckled when I read that Georgia had created a spreadsheet not only to keep the details of wedding decisions straight but she also created a separate spreadsheet with the list of suspects. Then Georgie imagined herself as Poirot (love the reference) conducting questioning in an old whodunit. Brought a smile to my face.
Snap! Crackle! Pop! – I loved the scene where Georgie described this – the sense of being in the right place at the right time. This just hit home and I hope it does for you when you read the book! I find that Georgie does seem to be in the right place at the right time to get new clues in her mystery solving.
It took me until the end to figure out all the whodunits – just the way I like my mysteries. More details of the mystery and its ultimate conclusion are left to you to figure out – I don’t like inadvertently leaving spoilers – so I won’t ☺
As per what seems like usual – I enjoyed the recipes in the back of the book, especially Cranberry Bourbon Meatballs. It is very tasty and sure to be one I will make more than the single time I have so far.
If you like a fast pace, cozy mystery with characters that are well-developed and intriguing, and you won’t guess who did it – I suggest picking up A Merry Christmas Wedding Mystery and setting aside a bit of time, cozy up with your favourite libation and enjoy. You won’t be disappointed in the story-telling of Ms. Burke.
I jumped right into the middle of this series and now have to go back and start from the beginning. Not that this book didn't stand quite well on its own but that a lot of the byplay and peripheral characters were not as nuanced as they'd be with their histories enriching my understanding of their characters. Meeting all the qualifications of the "cozy" mystery, there are even recipes at the end (practical, simple and delicious sounding!). Our heroine, Georgie Shaw, a woman of indeterminate middle years (old enough to be legal and know how, young enough to still enjoy), is madly in love and planning her wedding when the leading lady of Max's latest film vanishes. Well you've got tinsel town, actors, egos (sorry--didn't mean to be redundant!) and a fast-moving story that races you up and down tunnels (no car chases but maybe racing food carts?). Charm oozes.
kindle unlimited, have read all of these {except for the newest one coming out soonish} so thought would go through all of them again to refresh my memory {lot of books, lot of series, lot of time passed} so starting with this series since will be the newest one coming out {with exception of newest series, 2 different ones, coming out here and there as well}. Also listed books that are NOT out, yet, but will be this year, etcetera, to keep the list straight in my head, though I preorder them anyway. Did wonder why it was called Merry Christmas Wedding when the wedding was still month away and so wasn't actually part of the story really, but most importantly to me, the picture on the cover of a large striped cat and a smaller striped cat on the piano -- Miles & Ella are supposed to be Siamese, Chocolate Point Siames....

This story is my first Georgie Shaw mystery, so even though it took me a few pages to discover the people behind the series, I was glad I picked up the book. Engaging, thoroughly amusing, the mystery was well hidden, yet the characters well developed.
Georgie Shaw works at Marvelous Marley World and is planning her upcoming nuptials to police Captain Jack Wheeler. They appear to be well suited and are looking forward to their wedding plans and the beautiful honeymoon they both organized.
Until Georgie stumbles on the disappearance of one of their ‘talents’ during the filming of a movie. Georgie’s boss Mad Max, as he is known, manages to keep his cool and appears quite decent when it’s time to lend a hand to help some of the wounded. While Jack launches an investigation into the disappearance of Brigit, their film’s star, they find out more about Brigit’s life and the people surrounding her. The situation lends the perfect background to Georgie’s wit and curiosity. She loves to play amateur sleuth, and this time, she’ll be helping the man she loves and plans to marry in a few short weeks. A review of the tapes from different cameras around the area and interviews with all the right people are no match for this puzzle. Until Georgie discovers the one thing that brings it all together.
Captivating and lighthearted, this cozy mystery will give you a taste for reading more of Georgie Shaw and the Marvelous Marley World gang.
If you have read any of the others in this delightful series you will know that Mad Max (the creator and owner of Marvelous Marley World) is a character unto himself--you never know what he is going to come up with or do next!! Well this time he decided to hijack Georgie Shaw and Detective Jack Wheeler’s Christmas wedding. Georgie is bound and determined to stop him--NO WAY is she going to wear the style dress he has decreed!! (And I for one don't blame her). Just as she is about to tell him so--the actress, who is the star of the newest movie production Mad Max is putting together--goes missing--vamoose--gone--along with her cat!! Now who and why would anyone want to kidnap this woman? It is up to Georgie and Jack to figure it all out--and there are so many suspects. Finding the right one was not easy--and I doubt you will guess who it was or why they did it!!
A MERRY CHRISTMAS WEDDING MYSTERY by Anna Celeste Burke What happens when you are weeks away from getting married and mayhem once again takes over at The Cat Factory? If your names are Georgie Shaw and Jack Wheeler anything is possible! In the midst of quelling a temper tantrum by a movie starlet, Georgie and Jack are yanked into yet another mystery. Will they solve the crime? Will there be a wedding?. Go ahead read it. I’m not telling. A MERRY CHRISTMAS WEDDING MYSTERY is one of those stories by the author that you just can’t put down! I love Jack and Georgie and the myriad of characters that are introduced in each book. The plot was engaging as I turned each page to find out exactly whodunit and why! I was not disappointed. Kudos for fantastic story writing go to MS. Burke and I look forward to the next installment of Georgie and Jack adventures. I give the book 5 gold wedding bells.
Adorable mystery perfect for the Christmas season or anytime. Poor Georgie just wants to have a beautiful wedding, but of course someone dies and she gets involved in the mystery. I won this delightful book and am happy to help by reviewing
I love Georgie Shaw and this is, yes again but true, my favorite book to date! While my first impression of some of the characters wasn't great, I soon came to appreciate most of them, wow, real life! Our time with the happy couple is wonderful as they work together on the case and look forward to surviving Max's version of the perfect wedding! I appreciate that Georgie put's her foot down rather that suffering through what should be her special day. We even get invited to the wedding!
I really enjoyed the mystery and even in this world of illusion everything felt realistic rather than over blown including that fact that there were several possible suspects.
Even if this is your first Georgie Shaw Cozy mystery, you are sure to love it!

Another terrific addition to the Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series. There is never a dull moment at Marvelous Marley World!! From Mad Max trying to hijack Georgie and Jack's wedding to temperamental actors to clandestine affairs and secret marriages to cats, there is something interesting and entertaining going on all the time! I was hooked from the beginning! I had the wrong villain picked out. The wrong reason, too. It was definitely a surprise when the dust finally settled.
Grab this awesome mystery, sit back, and enjoy all the hijinks occurring at The Cat Factory! Better yet, start at the beginning and read all the books in the series.
Georgie Shaw and her hunky detective boyfriend Jack Wheeler are back and chaos is soon to follow. The soon to be married couple are surprised, and not in a good way, by the demands of her boss Max Marley that she wear a hoop skirt to get married in. Is this another of his famous publicity stunts? The couple decide to confront him face to face with the issue so they head out to Marley World, where madness ensues. How much trouble can a wedding be? Well, apparently plenty if you work for Max Marley and plan on getting married on one of his sets. This book is funny and still manages to carry off a legitimate mystery plot at the same time. I love the author's take on her characters and this book doesn't disappoint!
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Anna Celeste Burke's books are bound to keep you entertained for hours, and fans for life! Her loveable characters feel like people you have known forever, and their adventures are so much fun it makes you wish you could join them in solving the case! The Georgie Shaw series comes with my highest recommendation. There are always clues to be uncovered, a case to be solved, and an adventure waiting when you are ready! Thank you for reading my review!
A outstanding read. I so loved this book. The storyline keep me interested in so many wonderful ways. I was smiling and laughing and sometimes sad throughout this book as I read on with each chapter. The characters were very colorful and quirky that it felt like you were in the book with them. Totally recommended this book !
I could't even get through two chapters. It was just too cheesy, like badly written soap opera dialogue. The only reason I tried reading another Anna Celeste Burke story was because it's part of the Winter Whodunnits boxed set I'm reading. Her books are not for you if you care more about the mystery-solving, and not at all for the chick-lit aspects.
If you haven't yet seen the marley world and met Georgie and jack and the gang you should. Anna Celeste Burke books will have you laugh out loud and cry both. You can't help but love the stories and characters I can't wait till the next book
I love books that have a happily ever after, especially ones with cats. Miles and Ella, Miles's new friend are perfect. Jack and Georgie are definitely a winning combination. Can't wait for book 5.
I was pleasantly surprised by this story. All the ingredients of a good cozy are here. The whodunit kept me guessing. The characters and dialogue were well written. I would definitely read more books in this series. I won a copy of this book in a contest.
