A relaxing trail ride turns tragic when Paramedic and Deputy Coroner Zoe Chambers discovers the body of a popular county commissioner in her Pennsylvania woods. Inconsistencies surround the horrible accident, but before she can investigate further, she's pried away by a plea for help from her best friend, whose son has been deemed a person of interest in a homicide over a thousand miles away. When he vanishes without a trace, his mother begs Zoe to help clear him and bring him safely home. The task takes Zoe out of her comfort zone in a frantic trip to the desolate canyons and bluffs of New Mexico, where she joins forces with the missing boy's sister and a mysterious young Navajo. Back at home, Vance Township's Chief of Police Pete Adams must deal not only with the commissioner's homicide, but with an influx of meth and a subsequent rash of drug overdoses in his rural community. Bodies keep turning up while suspects keep disappearing. However, little else matters when he learns that half a continent away, a brutal killer has Zoe in his sights.

A rare warm Sunday in November sends Zoe to the stable for a trail ride through her area of Pennsylvania. However, that trail ride ends early with the discovery of County Commissioner Dale Springfield’s body. It appears he fell off his horse in a tragic accident, but Zoe doesn’t think that explanation quite makes sense.

However, her hopes of being involved in the investigation get sidelined when her best friend, Rose, demands Zoe’s help. Rose’s son has disappeared in the New Mexico desert, and the police think he is a person of interest in a murder. So Zoe joins Rose in New Mexico. Can she help find Logan and figure out what really happened?

Since this series really has two main characters, Zoe and police chief Pete Adams, we are able to follow the progress on both cases even though Zoe is a thousand miles from home. However, that makes the beginning of the book slow since, just as one story is picking up the pace, we have to slow down for the other to be set up. My patience was rewarded with a satisfying resolution and several tense scenes. The divided focus keep some of the supporting players a bit thinner than they might otherwise be, although Zoe and Pete are still as sharp as ever. Since Zoe is a paramedic and deputy coroner, this series is a bit darker than my usual choices. As long as you expect a more traditional mystery when you pick it up, you’ll be fine. This is not the book to jump into the series with, but fans will certainly be glad they read it.

Zoe Chambers is a Paramedic and Deputy Coroner in rural Pennsylvania. She also boards horsesand runs trail rides. When one of her boarders' horses returns riderless, Zoe sets out to find what she hopes is the injured man, Unfortunately, she finds County Commissioner Dale Springfield dead. She assumes that his horse spooked, dragged him before shaking him loose and heading home The autopsy shows different. It turns out that Dale is on the no side of the discussion of allowing a company to frac in their township. Could someone have killed him to prevent him from speaking out? Pete has his work cut out for him on this one to find out who has the most to gain from Dale's death. While he is investigation this, young people are overdosing on heroin and meth. Is there something mixed with the drugs? Who is bringing in these deadly drugs? Who is Wolfie, the possible dealer?

Meanwhile Zoe has been asked to make a trip to New Mexico with her best friend Rose. It seems her son, Logan has disappeared and his girlfriend has been found dead. Is he the killer or is he in hiding from the killer? There is someone hunting Logan and that puts Zoe right in the path of the killer. Pete heads to New Mexico when Zoe stops answering her phone. Rose is frantic with worry and convinced that the boy she loves like a son is innocent, it's up to Zoe - with the help of Logan's sister Allison - to find out the truth of the matter.

The author switches smoothly between storylines in both states without skipping a beat. You are at first in rural Pennsylvania, with its rolling hills, brisk snowy weather, and close-knit community, then quickly transported to New Mexico, with its jagged mountains, bright sunrises, and desert terrain with people as mysterious as the mountains themselves The Navajo friends that Logan and Alison made when they lived there, enter the story with assistance. When we reach the end of the story it comes together beautifully. The conclusion is believable and well-written. Once again, Zoe shows her smarts, her caring nature and the skills she has to assist in emergency situations. Once again, I think this is the best in the series so far. I highly recommend not just this book, but the whole series. This is more than just a cozy, it is a thriller/mystery with cozy characteristics.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

First, Paramedic and Deputy Coroner Zoe Chambers finds a dead body near her home in Pennsylvania. Before she even has time to get in the middle of the investigation she is on a plane to New Mexico to find the son of her best friend. He isn’t answering his cell phone and his girlfriend body has been found near a canyon outside of Aztec. She has left Chief of Police and her boyfriend, Pete Adams, to handle the death at home as she gets in way over her head in New Mexico.

I am a huge fan of this series. This author continues to amaze me with each story topping the last. Every time I reach the end I find myself saying “WOW”.

In this installment the pace is quick, a lot is packed into 256 pages. There are two mysteries to solve 1000 miles apart from each other. Zoe and Pete stay connected with daily phone calls until Zoe stops answering her phone and definitely not by her choice. Ms. Dashofy edges right up to the cozy/thriller line that will have her readers glued to the page. This makes for a very exciting read.

Zoe is a strong intelligent woman and she needs both if she is going to survive the trouble she has landed smack in the middle of. She and Pete usually have each other’s back. Where Zoe is more impulsive, he is more measured. They both have the determination for justice to prevail. Separated this time they are dependent on others. But Pete is working with other professionals and Zoe is working with the sister of the guy she is trying to find and one of her friends. So many things could go wrong and do.

Dashofy’s No Way Home is off the charts fantastic! Fantastic characters, fantastic mysteries, fantastic book!! Get your copy and hold on tight, it is going to be a bumpy ride as you find out if everyone make their way home.

I have been a vivid friend of this series since book one. I was not disappointed and feel the series keeps getting better. The writing will put you into rural Pennsylvania and in this book into New Mexico.
Zoe Chambers is getting ready for a group ride when a lone horse returns to the barn. Zoe organized a search party and finds a county commissioner dead. It appears he was buck off his horse when the horse was spooked by a gunshot. There are abnormal tracts that Zoe notice. However, before she can investigate, her friend, Rose's son is missing in New Mexico and his girlfriend is found murdered. Zoe and Rose fly to New Mexico to help in the search for the missing lad. Back home Police Chief, Sam Adams not only has the murder of the commissioner but a sudden series of death by meth and heroin overdoses. The different cases are brought to together superbly for one tale. Evidence begins to suggest that the villain in both places is the same person. Learning this person is out to kill Zoe, he flies to New Mexico to help save her. The ending will surprise you. I am looking forward to the next adventure. I highly recommend this book and series.

Disclosure: I received a free copy from Henery Press for an honest review. I would like to thank them for this opportunity to read and review the book. The opinions expressed are my own.

Vance Township Paramedic and Deputy Coroner Zoe Chambers hits the road in this installment to help her best friend Rose locate her missing son. When Zoe arrives in Aztec, New Mexico, Annette Dashofy's gift for storytelling detail lifts the words right off the page. The complex, multi-layered plot offers many surprising twists and reveals right up to the surprise ending. Annette Dashofy has been nominated for an Agatha award, twice. It's easy to see why. Highly recommended.

This is am incredibly good story.
Deputy Coroner Zoe Chambers is a stong, insightful character and I was pleasantly surprised with the story line. I am not familiar with this author so it's always fun to discover a new to me author.

In this book Zoe discovers the body of the county commissioner when she discovers his horse has returned, riderless.

This explodes into a game of cat and mouse which puts Zoe into some precarious situations.
Also unfolding is the story with her best friend's son, who happens to be missing. Taking off to help her nerve wracked friend, Zoe finds herself in a battle with nefarious foes who would rather kill then face the consequences.

This story tells a gripping story and I felt transported into the action.
All cozy mystery biufs must put this on their to be read list.

I voluntarily read an ARC of this boo provided by Henery Press and NetGalley.

The Zoe Chambers series is a hidden gem in the cozy mystery genre. The incredible character development, detailed and entangled plotlines and superb writing create stories that deserve much more attention and acclaim than they receive. The cute covers are misleading. These mysteries are hard-boiled.

Posso dare 6 stelle?

Annette Dashofy has done it again. NO WAY HOME made me regret I'm such a fast reader, because it's yet another well-woven, suspenseful, caring Zoe Chambers mystery and I finished it. I particularly loved the well-researched and experienced New Mexico scenes, but it's all nicely crafted and beautifully written. Congratulations to the author. The rest of you? Read it!

Setting: Split between Pennsylvania and New Mexico

Characters

Zoe Chambers, paramedic and deputy coroner; best friend of Rose, girlfriend of Pete
Pete Adams, Vance Township Chief of Police; boyfriend of Zoe
Rose Bassi, Zoe's best friend and mom to Allison and Logan
Plot: On an uncharacteristically warm fall morning, Zoe gathers in her barn with a group of riders and their horses for a trail ride. But before they can get going, another horse - a notably anxious one - returns to the barn without his rider, who had gone out earlier in the morning. When Zoe heads out to investigate, she finds the body of a county commissioner - and a puzzling set of inconsistencies. At the same time, Pete is dealing with what looks to become a drug overdose epidemic and Zoe's best friend's son, Logan, is missing in New Mexico. Zoe is eager to help figure out who killed the commissioner, but Rose needs her help in locating Logan. As Rose and Zoe head west to New Mexico, Pete promises to keep Zoe in the loop about the murder, as long as she fills him in on the search for Rose's son, too. The story flips back and forth between the investigations, all the while somehow drawing closer together. Tension builds as the clues fall into place and, as a reader, I was anxious to see if anyone would put everything together in time to avoid more tragedy and violence!

Pacing: Brisk! Annette Dashofy keeps her characters moving along at a great pace for readers.

Predictability: Low; I was shocked!

Wild Card: Cards on the table: I'm kind of surprised that I liked No Way Home as much as I did. I've been a fan of the series, certainly, but I generally shy away from settings in the southwest. But the story was so clever and intriguing, that I couldn't keep from turning page after virtual page. Annette Dashofy has crafted a suspenseful and satisfying story in No Way Home; it's possibly my favorite of the Zoe Chambers mysteries to date.

Hit, Miss, or Draw? A definite hit.

This is a joint review of With A Vengeance and No Way Home since I read them one right after the other and had the same basic experience.

When I first requested Vengeance from Netgalley (in exchange for my honest review) I was expecting more of a cozy read based on the cover. Despite the lack of sex, descriptive imagery of the violence and gore and vulgar language, I would say this series falls into the true mystery category based on the developed, action packed plot lines and how we get to see what/how our amateur sleuth (Zoe) and the police are investigating. So many of the cozies I've been reading barely even have the police showing up.

Vengeance deals with the sniper shooting of first responders and I really liked how Home was completely different dealing with both drugs and a murder due to fracking/big money. The author really provided decent, full, detailed plots in both books. More in Vengeance than Home, previous events were just briefly mentioned and didn't impact my reading being new to the series. It was easy to jump in here.

I'm definitely looking forward to reading the first three books and the 6th when available.

The best in this series to date finds Zoe's relationships with police chief Pete Adams and that of her friend Rose Bassi slowly warming up.

Fracking has Vance County divided into for and against factions. When Commissioner Dale Springfield's horse returns riderless to Zoe's barn her search ends when she finds him dead on a trail. Was it an accident or murder because Dale was leading the anti-pipeline group?

Logan Bassi seems to have disappeared after the brutalized body of his girlfriend is found in the desert around Aztec New Mexico. Rose needs Zoe's help to find Logan but the danger this puts Zoe in is something no-one could have predicted.

The descriptions of New Mexico paint a beautiful and very different country from Vance County Pennsylvania.

Warning - there is some brutal violence in this book. Not a cozy mystery.

Zoe Chambers is a Paramedic and Deputy Coroner in Vance Township, Pennsylvania; and she also runs a boarding stable. So when one of her boarders' horses returns riderless, Zoe sets out to find the man she hopes is merely injured. But instead she finds the body of County Commissioner Dale Springfield, and at first glance it appears his horse was spooked and he fell and hit his head. Yet when Zoe does a preliminary examination, she thinks the body is colder than it should be for a recent accident, and wonders about the time of death.

Yet Dale's death might not be an accident after all - the town is divided on a company that wants to do local fracking - and Dale was definitely on the 'no' side. So who will benefit the most if and when the deal goes through, and did anyone hate him enough to want him out of the way permanently? With a host of suspects but no solid clues, Pete has his work cut out for him on this one.

There is also another problem going on in their town - young people are overdosing on heroin and meth, but Sheriff Pete Adams isn't sure which one is the culprit, or where the teens are getting their drugs. Even with the help of Detective Wayne Baronick - a sometimes-thorn in Pete's side - every lead they have runs down to a dead end.

But even with these crimes going on, Zoe's put front and center in another investigation. It seems her best friend Rose's son Logan has disappeared out in New Mexico - right after his girlfriend's body was found in the desert; he's not answering his cell phone, and it turns out that law enforcement aren't the only ones looking for him. Roped into traveling to the Southwest with Rose's family to help search for Logan, Zoe, although thousands of miles away, might just find that distance doesn't keep danger from finding you...

No Way Home is the fifth book in the Zoe Chambers mystery and in my opinion, so far it's the best of the group (which is a pretty feat, considering the other four were quite good themselves). We start out with several deaths in Pennsylvania that may be linked somehow, and then follow Zoe in New Mexico on her quest not only to find Logan, but get answers as to who murdered his girlfriend. Rose is frantic with worry and convinced that the boy she loves like a son is innocent, it's up to Zoe - with the help of Logan's sister Allison - to find out the truth of the matter.

The author switches deftly from the scenarios going on in both states without skipping a beat. You are at first in rural Pennsylvania, with its rolling hills, brisk snowy weather, and close-knit community of people, then are transported seamlessly to New Mexico, with its jagged mountains, bright sunrises, and desert terrain; and people as mysterious as the mountains themselves - a new experience for Zoe.

Still, with each mystery going on separately yet at the same time, we are drawn deeply into the multifarious story line, anxiously awaiting the outcome of both. Without giving too much away, let it be known that while there are plenty of twists and turns along the way, Ms. Dashofy spins a tightly-knit tale that delights the mind with vivid descriptions of regions and people, bringing it to life.

When at last we reach the end of the story it comes together beautifully; and as we learn the truth it is altogether believable and well-composed; with a gamut of emotions that elicits the same from the readers of the story. Highly recommended and I look forward to the next in the series.

I was drawn in on page one and 'spurred' on straight to the end!
No Way Home was a great introduction to Zoe Chambers and
author author Annette Dashofy. I really enjoyed this 5th book in the series. And I can't wait to read books 1 thru 4!

I loved getting to know the main character Zoe and the town police chief Pete. The two happen to be romantically involved.

The story begins on a quiet Sunday morning or so Zoe thinks!
As the manager of the local horse boarding facility Zoe begins to set out on a trail ride. Her plans are thwarted when one of the boarders horses comes running home. Upon finding the fallen rider Zoe immediately realizes there wasn't an 'accident'.

Before Zoe has a chance to 'dig' into the investigation she is whisked away to New Mexico with her best friend Rose to search for Rose's missing son.

It seems that trouble follows Zoe wherever she goes. Zoe and Police Chief Pete soon realize that there is a connection to the
riders 'accidental death' and the missing boy.

No Way Home was a fast paced keep you on the edge of your seat Cozy read. No Way Home is a 'stand alone' book although be cautioned you'll probably want to read the beginning of the series!

My favorite sub-character in this story was the character that helped Zoe in New Mexico. The character 'Yellow Horse' aka Pony Boy was elusive and a bit mysterious. And I caught myself wondering if Zoe wasn't already involved if there could be a little budding romance. I'd love to see more of Pony Boy.

Authors know a good sense of setting can enhance the well written plot. Dashofy proves the point as she temporarily moves Zoe from her Monongahela County home to the wilds of New Mexico. Even though she discovered the body, even thought this is her first case as a Deputy Coroner, Zoe realizes the bonds of friendship come first. Rose's son has gone missing in New Mexico and stands accused of murdering his girlfriend. Dashofy contrasts the wild beauty of the volcanic Land of Enchantment with the stark reality of the missing teen. Tensions mount here as it appears drugs might be involved.

Drugs are also part of Pete's problem. Meth and opioid use are on the rise, and a young teen's death by overdose intensifies the need to resolve both murders. The body Zoe discovered was actively involved in a fracking dispute, and now drugs have become a hot issue. Dashofy's realistic views on both issues do not pontificate, rather they add welcome insight into the minds of her characters and their times.

Separating Zoe from Pennsylvania helps her decide more about the direction her life is taking. She realizes she needs to find a permanent home soon. She also realizes her feelings for Pete need to move beyond a 'high school crush'. Dashofy's decision to create a slow boiling romance can frustrate rom-com fans, but for me, it compliments the tensions found in her up all night page turners. An excellent read.

Very highly recommended

I liked the first four books, but I'm about 2/3 through this one and the level of stupid is really getting to me.

One area of stupidity is the irrationality of the Rose character. She seems to just do anything she can to get in the way of Zoe helping find her missing son, yet the supposed motivation is that she's frantic to find her missing son. It feels like lazy writing just to throw a few more obstacles in Zoe's way.

Another is all the characters' casual acceptance that any car can be tracked, because they all have GPS. This is completely wrong, in at least two ways - not all cars have anything related to GPS, and just having a GPS navigation system does not provide any way at all for anybody to track the car remotely. This feels like the author trying too hard to show off her technological savvy and only showing her ignorance. Oops.

Yet another problem is all the times that characters who have supposedly known each other for their entire lives suddenly stop trusting each other and won't tell anything they know, at least not without a long drawn-out process of some sort. This also feels like lazy writing, this time to prolong suspense.

I like the Zoe and Pete characters. They're very competent, and I wish the author would just get out of their way and let them do what they do.

UPDATE

I finished the book. The last third was definitely better. Still, this was the weakest of the first five books. I could easily have skipped it.

No Way Home combines elements of a cozy mystery with elements of a thriller, and the result is an excellent read. As a cozy, No Way Home’s main character is Zoe Chambers, a county EMS paramedic and Deputy Coroner, who gets involved in trying to solve a murder when a riderless horse returns to the stable she manages. She is also trying to help her friend Rose find her missing son Logan. Meanwhile, several young people have overdosed in her county, and Zoe’s boyfriend Pete, Chief of Police, is driven to find the dealer. In this book, there are all the components of a good cozy: a likable heroine, a love interest, and a fascinating mystery with lots of threads. In addition, we are exposed to Native American culture as found in the Four Corners area.

No Way Home is also a thriller, however. A crucial characteristic of a thriller is suspense. This book kept me interested and wanting more from start to finish and fearful of what might happen next. The book has two contrasting settings as it bounces back and forth from Pennsylvania to New Mexico in such a way that the reader wants to keep going with each plot thread in turn, a thread which is dangling just out of reach. It is a book you won’t put aside easily or for long.

I would like to extend my thanks to netgalley.com and to Henery Press for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Review:

The characters are well developed, well rounded and three dimensional. Zoe is brave, smart and caring. She is willing to go the extra mile to help those in need, especially if it is for one of her friends. Sometimes she leaps before she looks and finds herself in some dangerous situations. It is a good thing that Pete, the Chief of Police, is always watching out for her. Pete is tough, honest and willing to do most anything to make sure that the bad guys are put away. And when it comes to Zoe, he will move mountains to keep her safe and by his side. He loves Zoe and cannot imagine his life without her. Their relationship has grown so much since the first book in the series and I have to say that they are one of my all-time favorite couples. That is what I look for when reading a series, the characters growing and evolving.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. The author is very talented in creating suspense and tension with the written word. There are a couple of mysteries to solve in this book and they were both carried on well throughout the entire book. There are enough suspects to consider and enough twists and turns that even the most seasoned armchair detective will have trouble solving the cases. I was not sure that I was going to like the fact that Zoe and Pete were in different parts of the country, each working on separate cases. But the way it was written it worked and it did not bother me at all.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery with great characters, well plotted mysteries and twists and turns galore. You could read this as a stand alone book but I would strongly suggest that you start at the first book and read the whole series. That way you can enjoy them all as much as I have.

"No Way Home" continues the story of Zoe and Pete in their corner of western Pennsylvania…and this time beyond. Part of the story takes place in New Mexico. Zoe's best friend Rose lived there with her two children for several months after the death of her husband.

This story features Rose and the kids, Allison and Logan. Logan has remained in the west and becomes a fugitive from a murder charge. On the home front, a murder with political ties is keeping Pete and Baronick busy with multiple suspects with a variety of motives.

As with the previous Zoe Chambers' books, this story flips chapter points of view between Zoe and Pete, weaves together different story lines and keeps you turning the pages.

Agreeing with my reading preferences, there's no smut, limited (or any?) cursing and the violence is described in a manner that leaves it to our imagination. Bravo for telling a tale without including those things. If you like to read a series where you can get to know the characters over time, then start with the first Zoe book and catch up fast because there are more to come.

In the interest of full disclosure, I’ll say up front that I know Annette Dashofy and consider her a friend.

She has now gone five for five with this latest entry in her Zoe Chambers series.

Zoe moves out of her comfort zone when she heads to New Mexico to help search for a missing friend. Annette moves out of her comfort zone when she puts Zoe in that situation. Not every writer can pull that off successfully. Annette does.

I’m not a fan of overly detailed descriptions of scenery. Annette delivers here, too, describing the wide-open vistas of New Mexico with just enough words for the reader to picture it in his mind.

This story had the usual assortment of twists. A few I saw coming and figured out what they would be and the rest surprised me. She really had me snowed on the bad guy(s). Good job, Annette.

Now keep those Zoe Chambers stories coming.

I really have enjoyed this series. Zoe Chambers, EMT and deputy coroner (though she didn’t work much in this installment), and Pete Adams, police chief of a small Pennsylvania town are the main characters and have an evolving relationship. That is one thing I have enjoyed. In too many series, relationships remain static.
This installment had several concurrent storylines in two locations. Two of them (improbably) coincided at the end. But they were all very believable and current. Drilling a fracking in the area has caused residents to take sides and one of the leaders of the environmental groups is murdered. At the same time Pete is dealing with teenagers dying of drug overdoeses. Then Zoe’s best friend’s son goes missing in New Mexico and she wants her to go with her to search for him.
All in all a satisfying mystery.

This entry in the Zoe Chambers Mystery series is a little different than previous books. There is the death of a county commissioner that may be accidental, a teenage drug overdose, and then Rose's son Logan is missing in New Mexico and his girlfriend has been found dead. And that is just at the beginning of the book! The suspects are numerous in both cases that Pete is working and he is being pressured by the DA to close the case of the county commissioner. Zoe goes to New Mexico with Rose and is trying to help her as much as she can. The story was intriguing and I didn't want to put this book down until I reached the end. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Another winner from Annette Dashofy!
With each book in this series Annette just gets better and better. Often authors trying to pull two story lines together fall short. Not this case with this one. While tackling two different cases occurring in locations on opposite sides of the continent as well as two different points of view, Zoe's and Pete's, Annette has done a masterful job of avoiding confusion and ties it altogether in a most unexpected way. The characters are well portrayed and true to their prior images. While I received this book from a give-away, I would have willingly purchased it and have several friends who have also become enamored with Annette's work. Enjoyable, thought provoking and with timely subject matter.

I actually liked this one slightly less than the others thus far. When those others are some of the best books I've ever read, that still means this one is better than 4 stars (maybe 4.5?). Books with two locations are very difficult. Dashofy does a good job, but I have preferred it when Zoe and Pete are together. Also, Rose annoyed me a bit in the last book, but I put that down, as Zoe did, to her recent circumstances. Rose continues in this book, however, and I am glad for the resolution given. Pony Boy's pointing with his lips was an odd gesture; I don't think I've ever seen anyone do it, and I simply cannot figure out how. The plotting also was not quite as tight as usual. Still, I liked it very much--not not as gaga over it as all the previous books.

I am rereading these, back to back, and loving every minute. In the 5th book the setting is divided between the lush green, Pennsylvania countryside and the stark, barren desert of New Mexico. Opening with the discovery of a body, Zoe is quickly pulled away by her bestie, Rose, whose son has been accused of murder in New Mexico. She investigates there with the help of Rose's daughter and quickly finds herself mired in trouble. Pete is mired in his own problems back home-- a drug ring op trying to operate in the county, a murder to solve, and a growing concern for Zoe in New Mexico. Drugs, greed, and murder, intertwine with Native American philosophy, family matters, and teen angst to produce another thrilling read by Ms. Dashofy.

If you are looking at this book and thinking it might be a good read then you are right. It is a great read. But I would strongly suggest you go back and get the first book in this amazing series and start from there. Annette does a wonderful way of crafting words that make you feel like you are stepping into the scenes that she is creating. At one part in this story, there is an old trailer in the middle of the desert and I felt that I was sleeping on the old broken-down couch. I won't get much into the story because I want you to read it to enjoy it all the way through. If you are looking for a new author than this is one you want to share the ride of reading with. Great stories and wonderful use of back storytelling.

Intriguing!! I love the characters and stpry-telling of this series. Drug overdoses, the death of the county commissioner, and the death of a young woman in New Mexico along with the missing son of Zoe's friend, Rose, are all occurring. It turns out that the drug overdoses seem to be connected to the disappearance of Logan, Rose's son, and Logan's girlfriend's murder. There seem to be a lot of suspects in the county commissioner's death as well. Zoe is busy trying to track down Logan and a killer in New Mexico while Pete is back home trying to solve the rest. Pete then travels to New Mexico when Zoe ends up missing as well. Very intriguing and I had a hard time putting this book down. I highly recommend this series!!

I am not sure what I expected when I got this book to read, but I can say it is going on my favorite books list. I loved everything about this book. The characters are phenomenal and the mystery is so intense I couldn't stop reading. If you have not read a book from this author you are missing out on a superb writing style. I was so engrossed in the story I could almost imagine it being a movie.

Zoe is a woman with many talents and has nerves of steel. She is able to keep calm in the most chaotic situations. As she gets ready to hit the trail at the boarding facility she runs, a lone horse shows up. Where is the rider? It seems odd to Zoe and she starts looking for the rider. What she discovers will set into motion a mystery that will span the countryside and into another state. There has been a lot of friction going on in town due to fracking . I found this very interesting and wanted to learn more. The author does a great job of explaining what it is. I also had some inside information from my husband who works in the oil and gas industry. Was someone out to stop any plans dealing with fracking in their town?

The people in town are shocked to learn who the person was that Zoe found. Let's just say the person was well known and had maybe upset a certain group in town. The brilliant writing takes us on a journey that also involves some mysterious deaths of young people. Someone very dear to Zoe turns up missing and she finds herself going to New Mexico to search for him. This is where I found myself on the edge of my seat. The action really takes off and Zoe is kept wondering who to trust .

There is one character that really stood out and I quickly found myself liking him. He is known as 'pony boy" or "Yellowhorse' as some call him. He was someone I would want to have on my side if I was in danger. He is very smart, knows the land well and will protect those with him at all costs. The story is riveting and I loved how the author ties it all together. This is one story that keeps you guessing with an ending you won't see coming.

I received a copy of this book from Great Escapes Book Tour. The review is my honest opinion.
