Tia Keating’s sister, Scarlett Weiss, shows up on her doorstep just after Tia’s daughter Magnolia is kidnapped straight from her arms. The kidnapping sends Tia’s house into an uproar. The continued unrest causes two of Tia’s beloved foster children to run away once Tia’s erratic behavior finally crosses the line. Can Tia and her family find Magnolia and the runaways before their lives are ruined or will The Darkness win this time? Only an epic battle will tell.
Shelia has been writing her whole life but finally published her first book, Memoirs Of The Happy Lesbian Housewife, in October 2014 under the nom de plume of Lorraine Howell. It is a finalist for a Goldie Award. The stretch into paranormal books was a natural and necessary progression.
I really enjoyed this story, even though it was far from what I expected. The blurb is rather brief and having not read book 1 (I really must stop reading series out of order) I didn't know a vital piece of information, that I wish I had.
From the blurb of book 2 - The kidnapping sends Tia’s house into an uproar. The continued unrest causes two of Tia’s beloved foster children to run away...
What I garnered from the blurb of book one when I was caught off guard that this is a paranormal story. Tia Keating runs a group home for teens with special gifts…
Scarlett is an awesome lead character. I got excited when she was introduced riding her Harley, but her motorcycle plays a minor part and isn't mentioned again after the 35% mark.
The plot is beautifully interwoven and kept me engaged. Magnolia stole the show for me, she was simply adorable. The outcome was satisfying, and I'd definitely read more by these authors.
Footnote: The gorgeous cover totally does this story justice. And in fairness, should've clued me in to the nature of the story.
This was a great follow up in the series. You learned a lot more about Tia’s darker side (of her self and her family). Hoping for a 3rd in this series.
An enjoyable fantasy/paranormal read with a bit of suspense! I highly recommend reading the first book before picking this one up - I didn't and could have used some of the info!
An overal enjoyable, well written story and I look forward to reading more.
