Hmmm!? Why did I bother? Here we have yet another example of an Amazon Vine book review that I submitted many years ago which subsequently disappeared. Most annoying! At the time I received the book we had plans to travel abroad. Particularly on the European continent. Now I am writing this second review during Covid, and after Brexit. This book, which lived in our downstairs bathroom - aka the loo - for many years, is now in a box in the attic. Not sure exactly if or when I'll dig it out? Lots of pretty pictures, if I recall. But, I suppose through no fault of either the book or it’s authors, not the best or most useful book I've ever had! Perhaps at some future point it’ll re-emerge and prove useful? We shall see…

This is travel book for ADVENTURE travels, so you are into high impact sports its probably not the book for you. If you want climb to highest peaks or ride horses across Patagonia, then check it out.

Am I the only person that has word documents for each continent with places to go in each? I’m the only obsessively organised traveller then? It comes from FOMO more that anything.
This was a great book to find unique experiences. Unfortunately whoever wrote it needed to comment less. Who refers to Kylie as the singing budgie these days? She has proven herself against 30 year old insults. It was these types of lame attempts at humour that detracted from the book. Thankfully, most of the experiences spoke for themselves.

I always find books like this inspiring, and given the state of my budget and my schedule, armchair travel has to suffice most of the time. Perhaps it is just me, but as usual, my only disappointment comes from the fact that books like this tend to cover too many places that are just too exotic, dangerous, or just plain too obscure for most travelers to bother with. Also, only a small part of the population is into participating in extreme sports, but that kind of stuff always gets disproportionate coverage. I wish the travel publishers would put less energy into that aspect of travel and more into the kinds of cultural travel that most of us prefer.

This book is amazing in terms of its diversity. The different categories in the book make it a very fun and relaxed read. Each 'experience' is shortly described and some practical information is provided (best season to visit or an website with extra information). A thing I did not like at all about this book was the fact that some things were mentioned several times over. Route 66 was in more than 6 categories and in my opinion there are enought wonderful places to replace the 5 repetitions. That would certainly have made this book even better. But for everyone with a compulsive need to see everything (well, not everything but certainly a lot) this book is great!

This book was so fun. It had some pretty crazy experiences like swimming with killer whales?! Not my idea of a good time. It was also pretty cool because I have done quite a few things in the book. I would recommend for some nice daydreaming.

OK, but kinda disappointing. Also, I think "Route 66" might have been in here like 20 times, in different categories.

A number of really good ideas for travel. I didn't like that to reach 1000 there were some repeat ideas.

A few too many things were repeated so not exactly a thousand, but very well researched and good solid information like we have come to expect from Lonely Planet.

[2013.07] Has some interesting lists. Don't agree with all the ones I'm familiar with, but it's an ok brainstorming book.
