Where To Go When, the ultimate trip planner for every month of the year, is a beautifully illustrated book that is both practical and inspiring. For every month of the year it presents 30 recommendations of destinations that are at their best during each month, whether due to their climate, or value or because there's a lot going on.

The suggestions feature every flavour of travel experience from culture-rich city breaks and tropical beach holidays to adventurous road trips and wildlife-watching expeditions. Then Lonely Planet's authors explain in detail why each destination has been selected. The text describes the place and why it's special at that particular time. The destinations are illustrated by inspiring photographs and have a small infographic that shows the key reasons to go. Practical details make the first step of planning a trip easier.

¿Hay un destino que te interesa pero no sabes cuándo es mejor ir? ¿Hay unas fechas que tienes libres o un periodo concreto del año en que te gustaría viajar, pero no sabes qué destino escoger? Este libro es para ti.
Los capítulos del libro están organizados por meses. Propone 30 destinos por mes (360 en total). Y no se queda ahí, sino que incluye un organigrama para cada capítulo/ mes para orientarte hacia el mejor destino según el tipo de viaje deseado: ¿relax, fiesta o aventura? ¿playa, ciudad o montaña? ¿Gastronomía? ¿Con niños o sin? ¿Tierra, nieve o agua? ¿Cuántas semanas disponibles? ¿Caro pero que merezca la pena o con buena relación calidad-precio?
Además, ¡te organiza cada uno de los 30 destinos de cada mes por temperatura! En un gráfico de frío a calor.
Es justo lo que estaba buscando porque voy a pasar por una operación y durante un año tengo que evitar el sol, el calor... y no siempre es fácil buscar destinos interesantes que cuadren con las fechas que tienes en mente.
Para cada destino incluye un pequeño apartado: ¿por qué ahora?, mini plan de viaje, cosas de interés y un pequeño comentario sobre los otros meses del año, y lo que puedes encontrar (excursiones, cultura, relax, gastronomía, aventura, etc).
Ayuda a pensar en sitios a menudo ignorados.
También puede ser un regalo excelente para los amantes de los viajes.

This was a fun break in my reading. I used to have a lot of wanderlust in me, and this sparked some of that again. It also confirmed the time frame we were thinking of checking out the Northern Lights next year- and where!

One of my favourite books. I keep it beside my bed and consult it all the time, whenever a knew possible travel destination pops into my head and I want to know when would be the best time to go, or vice versa, if I feel I need a holiday or know when I have time off coming up and want to know where is best for that time. Yes, I can google these lists too, but I love having a tangible book for this and have been surprised by how much I have picked it up.

Het is eens een andere manier om een toeristische gids op te bouwen: niet per land, zoals gewoonlijk, of iets dergelijks dat met ruimte te maken heeft. In plaats daarvan is dit boek opgemaakt op basis van tijd. 'Waar moet je wanneer naartoe?' is heel letterlijk genomen. Er zijn 360 bestemmingen opgenomen, 30 per hoofdstuk. Even rekenen en je weet dat er dan twaalf hoofdstukken zijn... niet toevallig het aantal maanden in een jaar. Het boek begint, zoals je kunt verwachten, in januari, en gaat tot december de hele wereld rond. Verder is er geen echte structuur in het boek. Eén land kan makkelijk meerdere keren in een hoofdstuk staan, maar die delen staan dan verspreid over dat hoofdstuk. Het is weer eens iets anders.
De informatie is dan ook totaal aangepast: een beetje algemene tips, maar vooral wat er in die ene specifieke periode te zien is. Zo kom je soms nog eens dingen te weten. De gewoonlijke namen staan erin, natuurlijk, maar hier en daar krijg je toch weer plaatsen te zien die je niet kende.
Het nadeel? Er wordt wel heel veel aandacht besteed aan Australië en - in iets mindere mate - Nieuw-Zeeland. Die twee landen samen tellen mee voor... minstens 10, misschien wel 15%. Een beetje té veel, naar mijn mening. Dan hadden er nog andere plekken in gemogen. Bovendien overlapt het hier en daar ergens: er staat twee keer hetzelfde uitgelicht in twee aparte maanden. En de informatie is dan ook nog deels hetzelfde. Hier en daar zijn er nog kleinere van dat soort missers, maar die ene is wel de flagrantste. Dat willen we eigenlijk niet zien: bladvulling langs de ene kant, tijdverlies aan de andere kant.
Maar die negatieve puntjes daar gelaten, is weer een knap werkje!

Lonely Planet's Where To Go When is full of unique and out of the way destinations, a few I've never even heard of! I did notice South Africa is mentioned twice for travel in September and November.

Were the editors running out of places to go? Haha!

Also, far flung countries like Australia and New Zealand are mentioned multiple times since they encompass so much territory and contain many out of the way, uncommon places to visit. There are handy flowcharts to help the confused traveler figure out what he/she is looking for in a destination, including what is expensive, good for families, ideal for drink, food and enriching one's mind, body, and soul.

Great guide for planning your bucket list of adventures or a spur of the moment trip!

Excelent ghid de călătorii, pentru cine vrea să exploreze întreaga lume, după criterii foarte diverse de interes, beneficiind din plin de vreme, evenimente locale, semnificații culturale, mini-excursii și multe altele! Organizată pe luni, și însoțită de diagrame care ușurează alegerile, cartea (enciclopedie aș putea spune) oferă, pentru locații de pe întreg globul, un rezumat plin de informații-cheie care permit asocierea fiecărei locații cu planurile fiecărui călător. O resursă care ar trebui să existe în rucsacul oricărui globetrotter.

secrtions are just wrong and poor quality control, for example:

Index says that Switzerland info on pages 15, 42, 99, 125 but there is nothing re. Switzerland on page 125
Page 83 has an x and y axis that features as one axis suggested trips that are cheaper arrayed to those more expensive - it lists a road trip eating pancakes in New Hampshire as "expensive but worth it" and greece, australia, an new zealand as "good value" on the cheaper end of the same x axis.

I'd started my own wonky hard-copy calendar thing trying to chart out best times to visit places I want to visit...and then I realized LP had done a lot of my work for me with this little gem. It does not comprehensively address best timing for all awesome options on this globe, but it is a great jumping off point to get ideas going!

Wonderful to browse through for all kinds of trip ideas, great and small. I love how the first sentence of each trip sums it up in a nutshell. I also like the introductory pages where you can compare weather, cost and so on for all ideas included in that month at a glance. Lonely Planet do this sort of thing so well.

This book has countless errors, and many missed opportunities to make it better and more accessible (which would increase its quality, not compromise it in the slightest). I actually wrote to LP to explain this and many of the errors and they understood, but recommend you do not purchase this book.

Esta guía dividida en meses del año es perfecta para los que están obligados a irse de vacaciones en una determinada fecha del año, para maximizar sus días y evitar las multitudes. Kindle App Format Is Frustrating!

This book may have been useful in print, but in the Kindle format it's terrible. To double tap in order to enlarge the font so that you can see it, but it only does part of the page, is laborious. For heaven's sake make it zoomable orr just put one page on the screen. The information was OK but kind of weak.

I wish the era of the flowchart decision-making tool would just go away. It's too contrived. Lonely Planet you can do better.
