Artist Morgan Dunbar works as a doorperson during the daylight hours so she can afford to practice her art at night. Amber, a wealthy, snooty resident of the building, acts like Morgan is invisible. She never thanks Morgan for any of the polite services she provides. She is always snapping fingers at Morgan, then pointing and saying, “Fetch this” or “Fetch that.”
One fateful day, Morgan reaches her breaking point. She finds Amber’s attitude particularly unbearable after hailing her a cab during a busy rush hour and receiving nary a thank you for her efforts. Morgan puts Amber in her place, but Amber chooses to ignore Morgan’s rant, slamming the taxi door in her face and nearly catching Morgan’s hand in the process.
Neither woman realizes what destiny has in store for them. Later on that day, an overwhelming disaster forces the two women to work to together as they try to make it out of Ground Zero alive. Will this tragedy cause Amber to stop ordering Morgan around and finally see her as more than Fetch this or Fetch that?
I’m a creator of romance who lost my way. I’m a dream weaver trapped in a world of useless information, bottom lines and bean counters. In short, I’m a writer. I pen novels of love, adventure and humor with African American lesbians as main characters.
I love writing and reading books. I’m a trivia buff and a movie freak. Just ask me and I’ll go see a movie, any movie at the drop of a hat. I’m crazy about my car. It’s a 15-year old VW convertible. Guess I like classic dependable things. I should mention I’m a curious sort too. I want to see, feel and experience as much as I can before I die and I plan on living a long time. My people live into their late nineties to over hundred and five.
I did not finish this book. I thought Morgan was okay but I could not stand Amber. I have zero tolerance for someone who is rude and hateful to someone who they consider to be beneath them. I don't care what sorrow and tragedy one has had in her life. There's no excuse for being a bitch. Especially when it seems she can be quite cordial to those who are "worthy" of her attention.
I liked reading Fetch. I liked the setting and the plot. Door woman in posh building meets snooty rich business executive. Some of the details of the 9/11 attacks are to vivid. Life in the affected areas did not settle down so easily or quickly. The thing that bothered me the most was the use of the two women's last names during intimate moments. Calling each other Dunbar and Thomas seemed awkward to me. Overall I enjoyed the book and will read more by this author.
This book was difficult to finish. I didn't like either of the main characters and couldn't really care if they managed to get together or not. They were both immature and annoying. I kept waiting for the book to get better, but overall I was disappointed with this one.
