For years Quinn Gallagher has lived a double life, both as a noble woman and a fierce pirate. The unspeakable things she’s had to do just to survive now lead her to turn her back to the sea as part of a quest to find who she truly is.
Her former crew, however, refuses to let her abandon them—not when they need her help now more than ever. If she is to save her sea-faring family, Quinn will need to don her pirate cap once more and stretch her still healing heart to the breaking point as she embarks on her most Cutthroat Crusade yet.
But will it be enough to stop the ocean from running red with Irish blood?

I'm a big Westmore/Silva fan. I have been really enjoying this series which is now in it's 4th book. I'm sorry to say, I did not care for this book like I did the previous ones. I noticed in book 3, the series has taken a darker grittier tone. This book continued in the same way, darker and depressing. I understand for the times, I should not be surprised at this change in tone. But what I loved about these books in the beginning, is that they were great adventure books. This book was about rape and death, not the fun pirating adventures the first two books were. I'm sorry to see the darker direction the series is going in. I feel committed to Quinn, after 4 books, so I will read the next one. I just hope the next book will be a little more sword slashing fun, and less depressing.
Well, things just got even more complicated. But omg what a ride! This was another good one. And I gotta be honest, what happened with Evan was very difficult to read... and I cried like a baby when Fiona died 💔😭 I do hope Quinn is able to kill Robert as soon as possible so no one comes after the little kid. Her place is with Quinn, just like Fiona wanted. Now, book 5 here I come hehe

I read it last year, and just noticed I didn't left a review. Anyway after four books, this one has the most morose undertone, is way too dark for my liking. I'm happy that Quinn finally did some soul-searching, although y'know if I'm not mistaken this book contains almost no sayyida, or was it nothing at all? Call me disappointed.
It 2 am and I’m crying so fucking hard. The death of Fiona was so sad. This book was a lot darker than the others, especially with the storyline about Evan. I did really like that Quinn finally became a captain and that she is just f amazing.
Also, I just found out that Grace O’Malley is an actual person who really existed. Like wtf. What a badass.

I love this serie! I found it kinda weird that Mary got beheaded since irl she was imprisoned for 19 years before the beheading. Of course its all fiction so I cant get to upset about it. I do hope Evan finds his way back, it really bothered me that Quinn still went to look for him, almost felt like the worse thing you could do to a rape victim (to not respect their wishes) I felt sad that Fiona had to die, but in those times I guess she already was lucky to live as long through all those miscarriages... Some sadness/darkness in this book, but I guess thr times darken for Ireland next...

I was so glad to see Callahan come into her own in this novel. I think she was long overdue for her own ship and crew.
*Spoilers ahead*
Personally, I did not understand the romance between Evan and Quinn. I could see a great love between her and Fiona, Becca, even Mary in waiting but I just never got that vibe with Evan. I hate what happened to her character, but I am glad that Quinn can try to find her true love once again.
Having marathon the series over the weekend I was surprised to see such a fun and book filled with life turn into a dark and morose one by the 4th book. I liked it but I felt there were too many cons for me to look past as I started the book which made it very difficult for me to fully invest in this story.
I liked the fact that Quinn did a little bit of "soul searching" and matured enough to feel good in her own skin and while I did enjoy her reading her liberal sexual romps, there is a bit of a wishy washy characteristic about Quinn when it comes to "who she loves/in love with". Actually, this was my biggest peeve about this book... as I'll explain below
I'm not quite sure if I want to read the next instalment because of this book's ending. It feels empty and there were so many things that could have happened. In other words, I felt let down.
3 stars. Just because the first 2 books were good enough to keep me reading till this point!
