This boxed set contains the first three books in the Djinn Wars series:

CHOSEN

When a fatal fever nearly wipes out the entire world's population, the survivors of what became known as "the Dying" believe the worst is in the past. Little do they know…

In the aftermath of the Dying, survivor Jessica Monroe searches for sanctuary in a world unlike any she's ever known before. As fear and isolation envelop her, Jessica encounters the sensitive and helpful Jace, who she believes is another survivor. But Jace has a past and secrets of his own that's he not ready to disclose. Soon Jessica realizes that the destruction of humanity might actually be the first step in a larger, more complicated plan -- a plan that may very well involve her. Struggling to discover her role in a terrifying new world where everything has changed, she must decide who she can trust. But is the price for that trust just too high?

TAKEN

The choice is hers...
Live life alone, or risk everything for the djinn man she loves?

Jessica Monroe's time is running out.  A survivalist group is intent on eradicating Jace and all others of his kind, and it's up to her to rescue him from the stronghold of the Immune. With the survivors developing a weapon that could quite easily tip the scales in the war between human and djinn, Jessica is determined to save the man she loves -- even if means betraying what's left of humanity.

FALLEN

Would you sacrifice it all for the man you love?

When a group of rogue djinn attacks Taos, Jessica Monroe has no choice but to activate the device that was created to rid the elementals of their supernatural powers, even though the machine's very existence threatens to ruin the lives of her lover and friends.  It's up to Jessica to launch a desperate mission to retrieve the one person who can help: Miles Odekirk, the mastermind who created the device.

The threat of retaliation by the Los Alamos survivors is not the only danger Jessica must face. Enemies lurk around every corner, and when an ancient rival returns to carry out his own revenge, Jessica may have to make the ultimate sacrifice to save the man she loves, as well as the entire Taos community, human and djinn alike.

A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, she’s happy to announce that her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010.

While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.

After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don’t hold that against her.

Nope, not badly written but I just disliked the plot so much. The trouble is there once certain things were said or done there was no way to write a decent outcome for them. For instance saying the pets would be looked after because they were innocents, everyone dies, obviously including tiny babies and children, really they had to die because otherwise they would have all starved to death with no one to look after them, but to create a scenario where the pets are innocent but innocent children aren't, well that wasn't a great idea. Mind you their death was kind of glossed over, Jessica never mentions anything about children in the part of the book I read.
Right then next thing you just can't write your way to making good.....the whole Jace situation. I hung in there thinking it seemed likely he was the voice Jessica hears in her head early on in the book, and knowing if he was I'd be done with the book. Yep turns out he was, and that's just all kinds of wrong, so he's "chosen" her to survive the virus, and then sets up a scenario so that he can turn up and get in her pants basically, and never tells her anything until she finds out for herself. Stalker much? Also the sex dream he sends her at one point is basically sexual assault- she certainly didn't consent to him sending it so it was just creepy.
Then why is she such a special snowflake that he picks her? Honestly if I had that kind of power I'd be picking some famous singer who at least would have some talent to entertain me after the apocolypse, not some random nobody.

I liked it

This is one of the better series that I have read by this author. I kind of like the post apocalypse feeling this story has. I liked it because it had more rescue and adventure sprinkled in with a little romance.

As usual, I am purposely vague in my positive reviews. I want a prospective reader to be able to enjoy the nuances of the story. Why bother to read it if you already know everything that's going to happen? I feel the same way about sporting events. I won't watch a game if I already know the final score. What's the point?

I liked this series enough that I was very pleased to find out there are four more books and have already started reading #4, Broken.

I read the first book, Chosen, in the Gods and Mortals anthology and liked it enough that I planned to read the next book when the opportunity arose. I was very pleased to find this box set listed at 99 cents.

This is the story of Jace, a djinn, and his Chosen mortal, Jessica. The first book describes how the majority of djinns have decided to obliterate humans from Earth. One thousand djinns are allowed to select a human mate who will be spared.

Not all humans were killed in the initial cleansing and a group of survivors have taken up residence in a town not far from where Jace and Jessica have sought refuge. These survivors, understandably, hate the djinn and will go to great lengths to obtain vengeance.

Book 2, Taken: The title pretty much covers the plot of the second novel. Jace has been apprehended by the aforesaid survivors and now Jessica must find a way to rescue him. We are introduced to the human's sadistic leader, a somewhat mad scientist, some of the other residents and another Chosen whose djinn had also been seized by the vigilantes. Not only are there humans against the djinn, but we are introduced to a band of rogue djinns who feel all humans, including the Chosen, should be obliterated.

Book 3, Fallen: The animosity between the two warring factions, and the group caught in the middle, continues. We discover quite a bit more background about Jace. Effort is made for a harmonious relationship between the surviving non-Chosen humans and djinns. Jessica, to her credit, does a little soul-searching about throwing her lot in with the beings who caused what is known as the Dying.

Chosen was a different read for me. I usually like straight up paranormal romances, which this is, but with a liberal dose of apocalypse.

Jessica is a Postgrad and a pretty average girl. A new disease strikes quickly and indiscriminately in the world and Jessica quickly loses those she loves. She is guided by a voice in her head, hich comes to her in moments when she doubts herself or when she is about to walk into a dangerous situation. The "voice" also physically intercedes on occasion. She is led to an isolated house which is packed with the necessities. The story then evolves into a love story with the arrival of Jace.

I don't want to tell too much more of the story line. Suffice to say this is a very atmospheric story, and I genuinely had hairs on end at parts. I loved the references to current TV shows which had a similar feel to the book, the Walking Dead for example.

Jessica is a strong, sympathetic but capable female lead. Jace is perfect as the mysterious stranger. Is he one of the good guys or bad guys?

Taken

This book takes up pretty much where the first book ended. Jessica has been left alone after Jace has been taken. A fellow Chosen is directed to her and together they leave in search of Jace and Natila, their beloveds.

I loved how we see how the remaining humans are coping after the Dying and that just because they are human does not make them humane!! Evil lurks in many forms and guises and there are lots of characters we meet during their time in the human encampment that I would love to get my hands on and inflict some justice of my own!!! Definitely the sign of a good book.

There is fear, sadness, loss of friends and lovers and the despair of being left behind. All around this was a fabulous book and I greatly enjoyed reading it. Well driven story and characters that are well developed and complex. An absolutely fab read!

Fallen

The communities of Taos (Djinn and their chosen) and Los Alamos ( Survivors) are on track for all out war. When rogue Djinn attack Taos, Jessica is left with no choice but to activate the stregth sapping device Dr Odekirk had created. With their Djinn protectors at a disadvantage, plans are made to try and have the devices creator adapt the device so that those within the field are unaffected.

A select few make their way to Los Alamos and abduct Odekirk. With the help of Lauren he sets about adapting the device, as he has seen first hand the Commanders cruelty against Julie, one of his own people, and no longer wants anything to do with him. But when rogue Djinn break through a weakened field, Jessica faces a horrific choice. Will she give up her love for Jace to protect their community? Will the rogues succeed in removing the 1000 and their chosen from the planet?

Christine has created characters which are strong and earthy but that have also grown over the last 3 books. They have not stood still on their defined roles but have grown and adapted throughout the books. This is a romance where the heroine kicks as much ass as the hero, just in different ways. They are both willing to try all avenues to rescue their people . There are some plot twists and new characters. However I hope this is not the last we have seen of the Taos gang, I really want to know what happens with Julia and between Miles and Lauren!

Interesting take on the Apocalypse - good read - I'd recommend the series

This book series is different than I expected. I read the first book in a Gods/ Mythology anthology called Gods and Mortals. The villain (so to speak) in the series was original and the world-building was good. I liked the characters and they were written in a way that they could evolve throughout the novels.

My only real quibble is the same as it is in all the Apocalypse books - the protagonist was basically brought up to survive (gun skills, cooking skills, first aid, butchery, butter making, etc) and I feel like that's harder to swallow than supernatural happenings or enemies.

Still, I liked the first one I found in the anthology enough to purchase the next two in the story arc. I would recommend reading Pope's series (at least this series - I haven't read any of her other series).

I love a good post-apocalyptic story, especially with supernatural beings. And when said SBs are all smoking hot, well, it goes without saying that some passionate, throbbing, ecstatic love is sure to follow. But I felt like the writer couldn’t decide if this should be a fantasy, a romance, or a prepper how-to, so none of the genres were served up particularly well. There were too many loose ends, not enough character development, and a great reliance on stereotypes — the spunky heroine, the hot boyfriend, the wise elder, the sadistic sheriff, the nutty professor. I finished 1-3 because they were free, but I wouldn’t pay for the subsequent books. They just weren’t interesting enough. Sorry.

I very much enjoyed these three books and you really get a feel for what the end of the world would feel like after everyone was lost with only a few immune to a deadly virus.
I did find however there was a lot of the mundane every day stuff that we all do mentioned several times and in great detail which wasn't very exciting, example: feeding and watering the dog. Luckily the story was well written in a way that made you feel like you were there and that made me keep reading. All in all a good read.

wonderful to have 3 books in 1.

I had read the first book many years ago with the intention of buying the others and hadn’t gotten around to it. Normally I don’t read books a second time because I remember them and this one was so familiar and had actually stayed in my headspace for years, mind you I read a few hundred books a year. I’m okay with the third book title but really feel the first two had more emphasis. Great stories and lots of action and a lot of thought put into how things may have gone in all sorts of different situations.

Slightly disappointed

The story line was good. It was creative and stayed interested.
I was disheartened by the porn written into a good fantacy. I found the explicite descriptions of sex and Christine facination of oral sex ruining an otherwise good read.
I know everyone says sex sells, but I for one did not think it was needed.

Great story and adventure

The story of the Djinn coming back to earth has a great mix of fantasy, romance and adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed this easy read and the progression of books 1-3. I loved getting to know the djinn as fantasy characters. A great read for vacation finished all 3 in a couple of days.

A good read

A future historical novel featuring an ancient group who wanted the earth back as their own domain hile preserving a small group of humans. It’s a good start to the series which I think would have been great for teenagers but its x-rated sex scenes are unnecessary and unacceptable for this age group and the general story.

Unbridled imagination of suspence

I was living the heartwrenching story of Jessica and Dutchie with Jace added in, not believing it could ever happen in our World. After reading Chosen, Taken and Fallen and not wanting their story to end, I am happy to say it became believable! I cannot wait to complete their experiences in rebuilding their World.

Btr than I thought it would be

I passed over this once but an glad I gave it a second chance and read the three stories. I liked this fresh twist on post apocalyptic endings, and djinn had been on my mind lately so it was a strange coincidence to run across the series

Awesome Series

I’m absolutely enthralled by The Djinn Wars series! The first book made me cry when everyone was dying from the Heat. I’m so glad Jase & Jessica finally rescued each other and made it back to home to Santa Fe!

Stopped reading after about chapter 9 of 1st book. This is just a romance novel covered in a fantasy wrapper. More focused on steamy dreams and situations, than story line. Some might like it, but it's not my thing.

Spellbinding

This is a great series of books and while I'm not a young reader, which I think these books are aimed more or less...the 20 somethings, the character building, storyline and pacing is outstanding. These first three got me hooked...starting on the next ones now.

3☆

The first book was great but then it went downhill really fast. I did not even finish the third book. Obvious questions weren't asked and characters and events were overly predictable. A shame cuz it could have been a great story otherwise.
