ராஜராஜ சோழனின் ஆட்சி, பொற்காலம் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. வலுவான சோழ சாம்ராஜ்ஜியத்தைக் கட்டமைத்தவராக கொண்டாடப்படும் அதே சமயம், மக்கள் நலன் மீது அக்கறை செலுத்திய பேரரசராகவும் ராஜராஜன் நினைவுகூரப்படுகிறார்.

ராஜராஜன் ஆட்சிக்காலத்தில் வரி வசூல் மட்டுமல்ல, மக்கள் நலப் பணிகளும் அதிகம். மக்களின் வாழ்க்கை நிலை உயர்ந்தது. காலமெல்லாம் அவர் புகழ் பாடும் தஞ்சைப் பெரிய கோயில் கட்டப்பட்டது. கலை, ஆட்சி முறை, சமயம், இலக்கியம், பொருளாதாரம், பண்பாடு என்று ராஜராஜனால் செழிப்படைந்த துறைகள் ஏராளம். அந்த வகையில், தென்னிந்தியாவில் மட்டுமல்ல, இந்திய வரலாற்றிலும்கூட ராஜராஜனின் ஆட்சி பொற்காலம்தான்.

Since the day i read Kalki's Ponniyen Selven, I become fond of Rajaraja Chola. Reading about him & Big temple have always given me immense pleasure.

I thought of completing this book with in a week but interesting i have to read about our chola and the way the story had been narrated here, made me to complete this within a day itself.

I appreciate the author to bring the most information about chola in handy.I'm missing a lot ,I wish i would born in Rajaraja chola's period.

An amazing book that describes the early and medieval chola empire....the content will amaze you like bank opened by raja raja cholan the interest rate of 12.5%..in most cases the flow was not good...a good read though...

Whet my appetite to read more. The book concisely talks about the lifestyle, administration, and wars during the period Rajaraja Chozhan. It also talks about Brihadisvara temple with details that I know for the first time.

Some of the facts and incidents mentioned are well known. The author expressed both good and bad about the great king. Though the book mainly describe Rajaraja cholan but it also revolve around whole medivial chola dynasity. Feeling satisfied to know and fulfil my long term thirst in knowing about this great king.

Good book

Lots of new theories and information regarding later cholas especially Rajarajacholan.Any one interested about ancient tamil history will surely enjoy this book. Narration is also quite engaging.

Raja Raja Cholan a great emperor of South India and no one could skip his dynasty while writing history of south India. So that's what attract the readers with its title. Sa. Na. Kannan wrote this book with the base of lots of research & evacuation took place in Tanjore and other part of south India. Book cover is the one of Raja Raja Cholan painting from Tanjor Big Temple. This books talks lot about how people during Chola emperor lived and the life style.
I would suggest this book for the people who wish to get an idea about the Raja Raja Cholan. To get brief knowledge about the kingdom you need lot more books to refer since the history behind and evacuation results were vast.
One couldn't give you everything in single book. I must accept the fact that author given lots of information and idea about the Raja Raja Cholan as possible into a book

This book contains crisp details of the chola period in Tamilnadu, the culture , lifestyle, devotion and many aspects that prevailed during the cholan, with specific importance given to the great king Raja Raja Cholan . It was a good read which made me to add all the references listed in the book to my read list.

What started as casual read (as it was free in prime reading), engaged and pulled me to the end of the book. The author has made a non fiction as interesting as possible.

I like how he asks questions here and there to kindle the curiosity of the reader. And of course basing everything on evidence makes it sensible to read. A good read indeed and highly recommended.

Though I did not read this version of RRC, it is a drama portraying the life of Raja Raja Chola 1, his family, the Tamil culture and how his daughter Princess Kundhavi Naachiyar fights to get married to her lover Vimaladhitan.

Nice read. Some chapters are boring but very informative about chola kingdom. Their greatness and how their kingdom came down. Show casing the line from what is written in rocks sculptures are awesome. He is showing the evidence in front of us.

A very good introduction book about rajaraja cholan and his ruling period ..It clarifies some of the doubt in fiction written by kalki and balakumaran .. should have briefed some of rajendra cholas period of reign ..A good start for those who wants to read Tamil chola dynasty

Good from a data point of view. Lots of interesting information about Raja raja cholan and chola kingdom. However, storytelling was average.

First couple of chapters are interesting to see which of the "Ponniyin selvan" characters are real characters.

It was great to learn some interesting stuffs about Cholas and specifically Raja Raja cola from this book.
My honest opinion is Author needed to pin point lot more statistics and source of reference while appreciating and criticising.Book feels little fiction without proper source of reference.
