Paul Grove loves two things in the world more than anything else: his daughter, Trisha, and roaming the mountains and forests of Wyoming. One he would kill for, the other is who he is. He has spent his life devoted to his ‘little’ girl, even though she isn’t so little anymore. When she disappears, he focuses all of his hunting and tracking skills on finding her. The tracks he has found make no sense, the clues left behind unlike any he has ever seen before, and the disappearance of Trisha and her friends a mystery he is determined to solve. When his daughter unexpectedly returns with a warrior from another world, he realizes he has no choice but to return with her to her new home or lose her forever.
Morian Reykill is a High Priestess for the golden symbiots of their world known as The Gods Blood. She is their protector and a member of the Royal House of Valdier. When her first mate is killed she is devastated, for while he was not her true mate, they loved each other very much. She thought to join her mate in the next life but something told her it was not yet her time. She believes it is because of her five sons, all Princes of Valdier devoted to protecting their people and the Hive, the birthplace of the symbiots. When both her sons and her people are threatened, she will do whatever she has to in order to protect them.
Paul Grove finds love in the beautiful alien woman who takes his breath away. For the first time since his wife died when Trisha was a baby, Paul wants someone of his own to hold. When a madman threatens his new family and takes the woman he is determined to claim, he will use all of his skills in hunting, tracking and guerilla warfare to get her safely back by his side.
Morian discovers that the alien male who has claimed her is the true mate she has always hoped of having but thought an impossible dream. Will she be able to save him before a powerful Valdier Royal kills him as he did her first mate or will she lose not only her true mate but her entire family to a man obsessed with gaining control of the Hive and the people of Valdier?
She is willing to sacrifice anything, including her life, to protect them. What she does not know is that Paul is the ultimate predator when his family is in danger. For when he is in pursuit of an enemy, his prey never gets away.

When Paul Grove's wife dies after giving birth to their daughter Paul decides to be the best dad in the whole world by nurturing Trish and teaching her all the life experience skills he's learned being a master tracker/survivalist/hunter. Knowing her skills are comparable to his own he doesn't accept the official presumed dead scenario the authorities have concluded when Trish and her friends go mysteriously missing. Paul leaves no stone unturned searching for her until he either finds her or sees her dead body.
When Trish appears out of the blue to tell him that she's been on an alien planet and has mated with Kelan, brother of the king, Paul realizes that this would be the last time he sees his daughter unless he goes with her to Valdier. With nothing to keep him on Earth he decides to go to with her only to meet Morian Reykill, high priestess and mother to the royal family, and experiences an instant and compelling need to claim her as his own true mate. But will he be allowed to when an enemy from the past returns and claims Morian is HIS true mate and will stop at nothing to achieve that goal and destroy what's left of the royal family to grab the throne for himself.
This book has been hinted at and teased in the previous installments so I've been impatiently waiting to get my hands on it. Trish, whose story was featured in book 3, learned her skills from her dad so I knew there was going to be some delicious ass whopping scenes to giggle through and I wasn't disappointed. Paul was the 'walk softly and carry a big stick' sort of guy who used his skills to beat what life threw his way proving once again that Earthers aren't wusses.
From the sadness of leaving Earth for a new life, the discovery of new love, sympathizing as new parents balance their love life with infants who don't respect that, or over protective fathers, this book had it all. In addition there was an evil bad guy element that provided the opposite end of the spectrum in regards to political intrigue, betrayal, paranormal action, and suspense scenes that kept me on the edge of my seat. But the climatic ending was the frosting on the cake but I won't really say anything further about it and spoil. It was a total coincidence though that Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me To The Moon" was playing when i finished this book. I think it could have been the book's theme song. **sigh.
As to the adult content/erotica. The m/f scenes do flow as a natural compliment to the actual storyline. I wasn't sure if I'd appreciate the fact that the main characters were both widowers with adult grown children. I really don't care to know about my own parent's sex life and the characters from the past installments have become the fictional friends I wish i knew in real life so it's kind of an extension of my hesitation and concern. The end result is no worries. These two were destined to be together so if their own kids were ok with the relationship so was I. ;)
I have mentioned in a vague way that previous characters make an appearance in this book but wanted to comment a little more on it. All our couples interact in this book and a few from the spin off series too. It's always a pleasure when the old and new are together yet the main focus is on the current H/h. I can never get enough of the gang. And yes, the stage is set for future installments which thrills me. I do believe the next one will be: Twin Dragons: Mel, Calo, and Cree's story. So looking forward to it.
I was very excited for this book, maybe too excited. It wasn't exactly what I expected, a very good read but not where I thought things were headed. It just felt like Morian wasn't exactly as spunky as she could be, I wanted more of her fire. Her dragon annoyed be much of the time, she just did not have the spark that her sons had in previous books.
I really liked the way the story brought us to where Paul was and what happened to him while the girls were missing. It helped to get to know him better and see his thoughts, which were more telling than Trisha's memories. He has a whole core of strength and loyalty to family. You see how he is a perfect match for Morian and her sons!
The story here is mixed narrative as usual, you get the leads thoughts as well as supporting. The supporting POV are a bit jumpy and random. It makes things feel choppy. I wish these were better managed, because they take you out of the stories. It is a great way to keep the reader on the inside of what is happening, I just wish it were more consistent with the supporting cast thoughts.
The steam factor is delicious as always! Some seriously yummy smexy scenes that will scorch you to the core. Oh my yes, this is an extremely hawt read! Be prepared for a break when things get sexy, cause they are delightfully detailed.
This moves us into the battle with the big bad and finally a resolution to that issue. The uncle is seriously deranged! It was also interesting to get more of Morian's backstory and role as a priestess. I kind of wish we could have had a bit more on her adventures as a youth. She was a real character who would have fun to read more about. What we did see showed her to be more than the sage matriarch we have come to know.
The audiobook narrated by David Brenin is a scrumptious feast for your ears. I am never disappointed in his reads, always delightful listen. He has a yummy rumble to his voice that catches all the masculine characters alpha tones. His feminine voices have just enough of a touch to make them realistic. Usually I listen to reads at double speed, not in this case. I like to listen to his reads at regular pace, because they are quick enough and I like to savor the time I have with him reading to me.
Even though this is kind of the end, it is also far from it. There are several side characters who have books to tell their stories. I expect they will cover a few events we already witnessed. It will be interesting to see how those stories layer with the ones we know.
Suspense, sizzling romance, and some all-out alpha shifters in space: what more can a gal ask for? I had my heart on my sleeve throughout and tears more than once. At the same time, I laughed and loved alongside the characters and also found myself sitting on the edge of my seat as the suspense ramped up. I liked how certain scenes were shown from different perspectives. I gave me a real sense of the big picture. The connection between Paul telling Trisha that her mother was in the stars and the current story was both ironic and heart wrenching. It also helped to bring Valdier and its culture forward, playing a prominent role in the tale.
I thought that Morian, her dragon, and her symbiot were hilarious. Their banter along with their desires were all very clear. Her history was fascinating. Not only was it her personal history but it was also the history of the royal family. This put a lot into perspective with respect to Raffvin (who was absolutely batty, by the way). I love how Paul became so much more than simply the solid hero we’ve previously known. That’s still there, but by getting to know him so much better you really see how much more there is to this fantastic alpha hero. His resolve and determination to do right by his daughter, even if not in standard terms, was fantastic. His skill had me constantly reassessing him.
Paul and Morian are the perfect couple. The little bit of doubt that they have at the beginning makes it all the more real. I thoroughly enjoyed the twist on dragon fire here. I also appreciated the stilted speech pattern of Paul’s dragon. It really allowed the conversations to stand out while also showing just how young Paul’s dragon really was.
This novel was a real winner from cover to cover. Smith had me crying in the prologue, laughing throughout, and gasping in suspense. This is definitely a must read story for all those who enjoy a good romance with a kick.
As this is book 6 in the Dragon Lords, reading it was like a visit with old, trusted friends - who can change shape.
The hero Paul and heroine Morian are great characters, both strong, confident and mature. Their instant attraction to each other is something that we readers have hoped from since Paul's daughter's book, Tracking Trisha.
SE weaves a story that answers some of the questions that have come from previous books but also gives us readers new ones. We also briefly see some of the characters that will be gracing further stories in this universe - Calo, Cree, Ha'ven, Pehr, Blaze.
Justice occurs for Trisha and yes, more is revealed about one of the villains of the series.
Fans of the Dragon Lords of Valdier series won't be disappointed, this book is everything we've come to expect from a SE Smith story. Those new to SE's world would probably enjoy this story, although much of the focus is on multiple characters from previous books as well as Paul & Morian.
Already looking forward to Cree and Calo's book as well as others in the works.
This is not the last book in the Dragon Lords series but it is featuring the Raffvin story arc - yes we finally see this guy have his butt kicked. This story features Paul (Trisha's Dad) and Morian (The Dragon Lords mother). This book was the first in which the true mates aren't fighting each other. It's actually a bit of a shock at first (well for me).
Paul does what he does best, train warriors and gets involved in the hunt for Raffvin. It's enjoyable to read about the training and the final take down. I liked that this involved the women also and wasn't just about the men thumping their chest and going on about "protecting mates".
We also get to visit all the children and discover what chaos they can cause, which for some, is huge. Characters for future stories and series make an appearance and it's just makes you want all the details and now.
I was going to do this detailed instruction manual of what incredibly complicated order to read the books in, but life is too short! Basically, I read books 2-5 at the same time, skipping between them at points of intersection of the books! Because! Spoilers! Ye flippin' gods the spoilers between books. And it irritated me. I had to keep going to the next book (books 6 to... 9?) because the previous book was spoiling. I skipped the sex scenes. I started reading the series because my Amazon kept suggesting I should read the Dragonling's Christmas and such. I wanted the adorableness!!! And they were adorable... But thank gods I'm out of that interminable morass of nonsense!! Ah, plenty of continuity errors, mostly timeline.
This is the one author that I know that I can always return to and know that I will have a lot of fun with the books. In saying that though books 1-3 where good but I just barely managed to read 3 as there were a lot of scenes repeated as in the previous books and I left 4 out completely.
So we see in book 2 that Trisha goes back for her father and Paul jumps right in and says lets go. While chatting with back home he hears Morian (The Lords of Valdiers) Mother.
It is time to kick some Raffvin butt. The plot was so much better and I loved every moment of it.
*****Re-read for 2nd time***** Last read 4/28/2014
I really liked this book. This one may be my favorite of the entire series as I really enjoyed how a human male is able to compete and stand toe to toe with strong alien men with symbiots and can change into a dragon.
I had high hopes for this book, mostly because I love the Queen Mother. Turned out good but pedestrian in places. I really wanted a bit of role-reversal, considering how powerful the woman is. Still, I recommend it as a good read!
The last of the Valdier clan(for now anyways) Morian is the matriarch, queen of the hive. Her mate and father of all her sons Jalo has been deceased for a long time. Morian gets a feeling from her dragon that her true mate is coming. Paul Grove has never given up hope, still searching for his beloved daughter Trisha. Trisha comes back to earth for Paul bringing her mate Kelan.Paul is surprised that she's pregnant, happy, and wants him to join her on the alien planet Valdier. Paul agrees to go with them ,meets Morian and their attraction is instant. Morian knows he is her true mate , but because he is a human male, how will he transform into a dragon. The gods give them a little help them along the way. The big bad(Raffvin) wants Morian and control of the Hive. Paul manages with help from the gods, Morian's sons, and their mates to defeat Raffvin. It ends beautifully with Paul and Morian happily mated visiting with all their family- the new additions(love Trelon and Cara's daughters especially). Great read!
Morian was devastated when her first mate is killed, he was not her true mate, but they loved each other very much. She thought to join him in the next life but something told her it was not yet her time. She believes it is because of her five sons, all Princes of Valdier devoted to protecting their people and the Hive, the birthplace of the symbiots. Paul was widowed very young and with a baby daughter to raise, but his heart yearned for more, longed to be whole. And when he met Morian, his world changed and found what he was looking all those years. I was waiting to read this story since Tracking Trisha and I was not disappointed. I loved it! It has everything I was expecting to read and much more. :)
I loved this book. I had fallen in love with Paul in the other stories. He was a wonderful father who cherished his daughter. My complaint in this book was he was so concerned at never seeing his daughter but then as soon as he met Morian he pretty much forgets about her. His only concern is Morian and while he says he has come to love all her son's as his own they go off for 3 months and when they come back are ready to get the visits over with so they can be alone. It totally went against the character that had been created earlier. I am all for his having found his mate but he wouldn't have just brushed his daughter like that in reality.
What can I say.... liked the book, kind of stock for the story line even if it did have a twist. I hope at some time the author follows the gold... :-) Or at least brings back the gold.
By now I"m tired of these because it's turning into a cross between "Mars needs women" and "earth girls are easy".... either way I need a change. I have the other books on my kindle but I don't care right now... I think I need a dose of sci-fi. or maybe read some humor to get me back in the mood. Maybe I'm having a grumpy day but the books only put a fleeting smile on my face and I want to fly with the dragons so I'm off to another author for a while.
This is the book I’ve been waiting the whole series for. Finally we get to see the sparks between Paul and Morian in action. And we also get to see what all the political scheming and intrigue has been leading up to: the final confrontation. I really liked that this book was more plot driven than being focused on the romance between the lead characters. That had been my complaint with some of the earlier books: too many ‘bedroom’ scenes and not enough plot. The series has become somewhat formulaic and since I’m almost to the end of what my library has available, I probably won’t continue past that.
Loved the story i couldn't put the book down i laughed, i cried, i cheered on the characters and was on the edge on my seat with some scenes impatient to read what happens next. It was a great book and getting to know Paul and Morian more, seeing things devolop between them. Then there was how things were between Paul and the sons, the action and steamy sex scenes. We also meet up with other characters from the other books and catch up on how they are and poor Trelon. Can't wait for more in this series and others.
I had a great time reading and was very excited when it was released. I had fun reading it and felt touched by the ending. I was also quite shocked to read about Paul and Morian's relationship because they dont like they have a bunch of grandchildren already but a couple of horney teenagers!! Seriously! I had fun reading about them. And by the end of the story instead of feeling satisfied more questions are asked. I cant wait for the other books to be released! Thank you for writing them!!
This was a beautiful book. I love Paul and his fierceness, he is the perfect mate for Morian. I hate all the hurt the characters had to go through during this book, but what a journey. I was on the edge of my seat. I adored every minute of this book. I can't believe I now have to wait for book 7. What will I do?? I have the largest book hangover I have had in a long time. I just want to restart the books, they were that good.
The best in the series I might say. Maybe because I find it more about my favorite couple Kelan and Trisha. Beside in this book we know what is going on with those dragon lords, their mates and younglings. It's like the continuing of their happily ever after but with lots of action from Oma and Opa too Hah!
And the relationship between Opa and Oma? Simply Divine, and of course they deserved it! Haha:))
The other stories dealt with male dragon shifters and their human female mates. This story deals with a female dragon shifter and her human male mate. The attraction is instantaneous between Paul (Trishas' father) and Morian ( the dragon shifters mother). This is their story. Of course you get to see how the rest of the shifters and their mates, along with their children are doing.
Love this one.. Morian finally meets her true mate when she meets Trisha's father Paul Grove. She tries to keep her heart from being hurt again but fate finds a way.. Paul has always felt like he was missing something in his life since his wife passed but he was to busy raising his daughter Trisha alone. Now he's in a different world and meets Morian who calls to is inner self and he'll stop at nothing to protect her..
This is my favorite book of the series…so far. It’s Official! S.E. Smith has become one of my favorite authors and auto buy. She can do no wrong for me. I’m always smiling the whole time when reading her books. A special thanks to a Goodread friend "Sandra" for sending me in this direction. Too bad they don’t have a LOVE button!

I enjoyed this one better than that last couple which were the two sisters, Carmen and Ariel. Carmen was too stubborn and stuck and Ariel went along with her sister too much, indulgent. This was Trisha's father's romance with the mother of the Dragon Lords. That he is just as badass should be since he was the one that trained Trisha. This was a love a first sight and they didn't fight it which was good. There was a build up of Paul not being able to shift and it was going to kill Morian. That this was the case was a poor excuse as she is not a dragon lord and he survived "mating" so why would it be any different than it was? That was my biggest complaint. It wasn't like Paul died and Morian was mated without "true" mate status before so her dragon accepted her mating there. So why now we he cannot manifest would the dragon want to go into depression that would kill them both? So that is the 1 star off. Other than that we get a lot of resolution here. We get the kids of Morian and their acceptance of Paul.
Great book for one of Mr favorite characters of this series!
I loved this book. We were introduced to him in a earlier book, Trisha's book. Paul is her father. As I have said before, you fall in love with SE Smith's primary characters and the secondary ones. In this book, Paul is taken to the planet where his daughter was kidnapped and is the story of how he finds his love of his life. Dealing with his loves son's, interfering, danger to his love. This author sucks you into her worlds. You absolutely fall in love with the primary characters and the secondary characters. Each book you wait desperately for your favorite character. Her worlds become real to you. Each person burrows their way into your heart. I joined every newsletter and Facebook page she had because I didn't want to miss a single book. Fabulous author. You won't regret buying her books. She is absolutely my favorite author out there.
I love this book. Paul is Trisha's dad. He has been looking for his daughter and her friends for 6 months. I am so glad that we got to meet Paul and understood why Trisha was so adamant why she wanted to get to her dad. Paul is the type of dad that every little girl should have. He is protective but understands that his daughter must be able to make her own choices.
Morian is just as amazing as Paul is as a parent. All she wants is for her sons to be happy and loved. I have to admit that I was really happy to see these two characters come together and be happy. Yes there was ups and downs and psycho people trying to kill them but the love that they had for each let the reader know that everything was going to be okay. S.E. Smith is such a wonderful author and reading her books lets you have that break from the real world that we all need every so often.
I don’t know what it is but Ms. Smiths work before around 2014 is different to he later work. In her later work there is none of the men dominate women listen and obey rubbish that is threaded through her earlier work, which makes her both an author I love and one I hesitate reading. This story straddles that line, while Paul is definitely honorable and wonderfully PC in how he treats and respects the h, the men around him are happily abducting women willy nilly and he’s pretty relaxed about it, which bugged me, and spoiled the story for me, I don’t care for how long or how good a reason, kidnapping women isn’t sexy, it’s a blatant disregard of their right to choose, and on another note a lot can happen in six months including Stockholm syndrome.

The author was bold enough to flaunt what few others have done. She wrote of a sane, great role model human male as lead character. One that had been happily married and in love with a human woman and had child with her. Personally I am sick of alien and human stories only about human woman, anti human male or humans as awful and the lead alien male being perfect and top caste. Want to see occasionally books of human male leads, maybe divorced humans, non American humans. Alien matches that are not rich, working for a living. More realistic human and alien characters
