All they wanted was a family. They never expected this.
A childless couple. An adoption specialist. A little girl with a secret. A young boy with unimaginable powers. A scientist with an over-inflated ego. And an elderly psychic who knows the truth.
In the fall of 2002, Claire and Logan adopt five-year-old Samantha and welcome her into their home. But then strange and incredible things begin to happen. The Kellers are unwittingly pulled into an unfathomable world of deception, power and suspense. They find themselves on the run from an unseen force, searching for answers while trying to stay alive. What they find waiting for them is both shocking and unforgettable.
The Adoption is a riveting action adventure thriller full of plot twists that will keep you guessing until the very end. A mix of science fiction, paranormal mystery and the supernatural.
This book was very exciting for me! It had me on the edge of my seat. This is a another new author for me and I am so excited and hoping to read more from this author. I am blessed to read such wonderful works in my off time. When I saw the cover of this book and read the description I had high expectations for this book, this book did not disappoint! Many people adopt and I think that is a great gift. This book had me thinking adoption too. Could this really happen to someone/a family or is this all just a great authors work? I guess that is why it is a great thriller! * I received this book from the author and this is my honest review*
3.5 stars. I did a half assed blurb read and didn't even notice that it's sci-fi so that was an unexpected turn for me. Thankfully I like science fiction and it was well blended into this suspenseful story.
Some parts felt slower but overall it had a good pace and was exciting enough to keep me hooked to the very end.
Great subject great characters. Believable. I love the premise.a world where ESP and other mind controlling abilities exist. The good and bad side of human nature. Who will win. The ending has a nice little twist..
This book has a story line that you could never imagine. It has plot twists and turns that leave you gasping and wanting more. A must read for anyone who loves mystery and suspense plus a touch of science fiction. An almost perfect summer rainy day read! I want a sequel!!!
This book was exciting from beginning to end , I wasn’t bored not a second , I couldn’t put the book down . This was a great read and all the elements that make a thriller you can’t put down . Recommend this to anyone who likes a good ride .
I love books like these, oh who am I kidding, I love almost all books, I'm an addict to the written word! This story spoke to me from the first chapter and I can't recommend it enough! Looking forward to other books in the series, or the next book period, thanks Greg for a lovely read.
I'm a true fan of psychological thrillers so of course I chose The Adoption. I'm normally not a fan of science fiction or anything that seems "out there". I'm a realist! But, the characters become real in this book and you find yourself rooting for the good guys....It all tied together nicely. The only part I had some trouble believing (without spoilers) was the end. I didn't think the ending was something that these particular characters would have agreed to based on their beliefs and arguments throughout the book. All in all, an easy read with plenty of action.
4th grade level writing with poor punctuation. This is the worst novel I've picked up in years. I can forgive a lot when it comes to trashy fiction, but there is no excuse for a complete disregard of proper sentence structure, especially when it comes to relaying dialogue in prose.
This is a terrific story that slowly built to a quote unexpected ending. I would love to see this book as the first in a series featuring Logan, Claire, Sam, Lisa,, and "Omega", battling evil in all it's forms. I will STRONGLY RECOMMEND this novel to friends and family.
Excellent reading. The book has an interesting story, lifelike characters, surprising twists and turns. I liked it and read it until the last page. All in a single day.
This book began with mystery right from the start, it kept me glued to the pages in expectation of the next, it is very intense and filled with action. The psychological parts were well done and I like the concept of good and evil. The heroin of this book for me is Samantha, her role was well written, she proved that size does not always matter and that she is one powerful kid. Keeping her talents hidden was a masterful stroke which gave her character more life and credibility. This book was quite an eye opener and I have to say, I enjoyed it.
Intriguing book about a child having special abilities to do not magical but very other worldly things. The character development was just enough to have you invested in what was going to happen all during each chapter.. A good page turner!
The story line is utterly unbelievable and ridiculous. And I read Stephen King! At no point did the writer convince you this could actually happen. The characters are never fully developed and some of the interaction just .... well I don't have words.
That, and I hate when a group of people are called "The Gang"!
Unfortunately I had issues with the writing. A well to do business owner is unlikely to use Old Spice aftershave for instance, and lots of repetition "yes...yes I see". Maybe if one character talked like that consistently but when everyone does it it's distracting. Keep honing your craft Mr Meritt, I think you have a lot of potential.
Although the books title is The Adoption, the excellent book is not about adoption. It happens to an adoptive couple when they are setup to adopt a 5 year old girl who has parabehavioral skills without their knowledge. Their new daughter is a sweet, special little girl they soon love. However, soon they begin to believe she can read people's minds and sinister events begin to happen, including people dying. Again, it is a great story of a warm,, caring parents and a lovely little girl in which their are evil people, a diabolical 7 year old, and many twists and turns in the story that suck you totally into the story.
Good book. Another book I could not put down. I just wish Logan and Claire had decided to have a nice normal life and that Claire found out she was pregnant in the end. Maybe for another book.
An AMAZING, SURPRISINGLY INTRIGUING, IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT DOWN BOOK
From the very beginning, this book is enthralling. I was pleasantly surprised at how this story grabbed me & didn't release it's hold on me until I was done with the last word. Wait, I lied, it STILL HSS a hold of me. I can't stop thinking about it! I know being adopted may have made this book seem a little more interesting to me but upon reading it I know that anyone, adopted or not, would find this book to be exciting, intriguing, & a must read! I just can't wait to see what other books Greg Merit has to offer. I look forward to seeing his name on best seller lists everywhere. Thank you Mr. Merit & keep up their great work, I'm a voracious reader...
The Adoption by Greg Meritt is a true page turner. I started the book with one expectation and continued to be amazed as the author took me in placed I never expected to go. It isn’t often I am surprised by a novel, but this one did its job very well. This writer is one to watch! With a gift of just enough description and perfect timing, Mr. Meritt delivers quite a punch with his debut novel. I highly recommend this book for some who is looking for an edge of your seat read! An enthusiastic five stars from me!
Usually with psychological thrillers the reader can figure out the twists and turns of the plot but not with this one! I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller/mystery!!
