Something is coming.
Something evil.
And it's up to The Order to stop it.
MANTLE - The Talisman Chronicles, Episode 4
Maia Sheridan isn’t sure why her cousin and her friends are so interested in an ancient journal found buried in the library archives, but she suspects they have a hidden motive. The journal tells of a secret group called The Order—powerful warriors tasked with protecting humanity.
Maia knows it’s a legend, an interesting bit of mythology passed down through generations. But the more she translates the journal, the more she begins to wonder if there’s more to the myth than meets the eye.
Maybe The Order is real. And maybe Maia’s destined to be a part of it.
T.M. Franklin writes stories of adventure, romance, & a little magic. A former TV news producer, she decided making stuff up was more fun than reporting the facts. Her first published novel, MORE, was born during National Novel Writing month, a challenge to write a novel in thirty days. MORE was well-received, being selected as a finalist in the 2013 Kindle Book Review Best Indie Book Awards, as well as winning the Suspense/Thriller division of the Blogger Book Fair Reader's Choice Awards. She's since written four additional novels and several best-selling short stories...and there's always more on the way.
Maia Sheridan is a regular college student until her cousin Miranda contacts her regarding an ancient journal. When the high school group visits her on campus, she is confronted with their quest and her apparent role in it. Denial is not just a river in Egypt, and Maia fervently hopes ignoring the situation will make it go away. The old book still fascinates her, though, and she reaches out to her professor for more information.
Professor Kennedy is connected more closely to The Order than Maia ever could have expected. Living in Lamsden, he has kept the journal of The Order safe after the death of his brother, the previous Scribe. This means that The Order has more ties to the town than previously thought.
It is clear that TM Franklin is familiar with the Pacific Northwest, as she paints a vivid picture of the area and its inhabitants. Maia’s proficiency with her gift is described in a visceral way; the way she understands and controls it is made clear in her own explanation. The Order’s nemesis, Chaos, is further identified. This makes it both better to understand and more dangerous, volatile.
Another piece of the puzzle and now Maia has joined their ranks. information is revealed.More connections that can't be coincidence. suspense is cranked up . 5 stars for this episode .

I have to admit. This episode was my last favourite (which I still enjoyed), but I can't work out why. It still had the action and a lot more resistance from Maia to everything happening. She was the first to not just blindly accept what was happening to them all. I liked that about her as it made it feel that little more realistic, but there was something a little... off about her episode.
While a lot of questions left open by the previous episodes are answered in this book, more are created by the end of it which is frustrating in such a good way!
This book follows Maia. We meet her at the end of Gauntlet. We seem to be introduced to a new member of the order as each book comes to a close. I like this about the series. I get to look forward to who is going to be joining them and how they each end up finding the order in the first place.
In this book you get a lot of questions answered but yet you are given more questions as you go along. It is done so artfully well that it just sucks you in and makes you not able to stop reading.
I liked getting to know Maia. She was one of the first ones that really fought what was going on and stayed in denial until she came to a point where she wouldn't be able to hide from it anymore. I liked that about her. It showed that she was different from the rest, yet a valuable asset to the group.
Chaos is building and making it's self known. You know, excuse my language, that shit is about to hit the fan. It keeps you on edge and full of suspense as you turn each page. I am excited yet scared to know when it all comes to a close and how things end up. The author has woven a wonderful story that keeps you engaged through the whole series.
Since the books are shorter, it makes it a quick read through each book but with them being split up the way they are, it makes it less stressful than trying to read a huge book. For once I think splitting them apart did a favor for the series and allowed more detail to be placed within the pages for us to enjoy.
I loved the first three episodes, but as a history major, this is where the series really gets me! Maia is a great character and I can tell there's more to her just waiting to be uncovered. Love the history/antiquities tie-in. I hope we learn even more about The Order before the end!
I received a complimentary copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
