A mysterious house. An old journal. A dusty chest holding more than secrets.
Each talisman found in the chest grants the chosen a gift, a unique ability. But with that power comes a burden—the duty of The Order.
Something is coming.
Something evil.
And it's up to The Order to stop it.
SHIELD - The Talisman Chronicles, Episode 5
When Dylan Kennedy finds himself standing in the rain on Chloe Blake’s doorstep, with no memory of how he got there, he has no idea that the weirdness in his life is just beginning. He opens the old wooden chest in Chloe’s attic and, with a flash of blinding light, he’s endowed with a unique gift—and made part of The Order.
But Dylan and the others face a growing threat—a darkness that feeds on pain and thrives on chaos. It’s getting stronger every day, and soon, they’ll have to fight it head-on, whether they’re ready or not.
T.M. Franklin writes stories of adventure, romance, & a little magic. A former TV news producer, she decided making stuff up was more fun than reporting the facts. Her first published novel, MORE, was born during National Novel Writing month, a challenge to write a novel in thirty days. MORE was well-received, being selected as a finalist in the 2013 Kindle Book Review Best Indie Book Awards, as well as winning the Suspense/Thriller division of the Blogger Book Fair Reader's Choice Awards. She's since written four additional novels and several best-selling short stories...and there's always more on the way.
In this book, we get to follow Dylan, the son of Professor Kennedy we got to meet in book 4, Mantle. I think he might be my favorite character to have been able to follow so far. I don't know what it is about him, but I really like him as a character. I feel like he could be someone I would hang out with if he were real.
The suspense in this book is stronger than ever. You know that the series is coming to a close and the books are short so there is only so much time left. It makes you sit there biting the little bit of nail you might have left from the other books in this series.
The writing is as engaging as ever and has you hanging by the seat of your pants until the last word. I can't wait to get the the 6th and final book to know how it all ends. You are given hints in this book that leads to a very suspenseful ending and seeing if the visions are true or are able to be changed. Here's to hoping they all make it out alive!
Another winning episode .... Dylan has joined the group. Information concerning The Order comes in to sharper focus more action and determination. 5 stars
***Read as part of The Talisman Chronicles single edition***
Dylan has been a character readers have met a couple of times due to his knowing Chloe and Miranda at school, and then his dad becoming involved with the Order. When Dylan is given his gift, his dad wants nothing more to do with them, and orders Dylan not to either, but the draw is far too strong, for them both.
Dylan defies his dad and puts himself in danger, but eventually his dad realises he needs to do this, they ALL do.
The Order expands further when Dylan Kennedy finds himself inexplicably drawn to Chloe’s house. In the chest he finds an ancient looking shield with decorations similar to those on the chest and journal. He joins the others in learning to hone his gift and training for the battle with Chaos. This much to the chagrin of his father, who wants to protect him.
It was fun to read about Dylan trying to sneak around in order to train, using Wren’s gift to do so. Also the way he enjoys getting to know his gift was a delight to read. The author really captured the difference in personality here.
The scene where Dylan’s father was in danger was a riveting read. It also helped the plot along, in that his father realized Dylan is part of The Order for a reason.
I appreciated how everyday teenage life is a part of the story. These kids are not just chosen and gifted, but also regular teenagers with hopes, dreams and fears. TM Franklin touches on this in a way that feels natural and fitting to the story.
I look forward to the conclusion of this supernatural adventure.
I was happy we got to learn a little more about the history and purpose of The Order in Shield. Dylan is a sweetheart and a well-rounded character. Like all the other episodes, I flew through it. Can't wait to finish up with Prison!
I received a complimentary copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
