Though I had high hopes, it fell short on every count.
I think the author probably has something to contribute to the subject, but her writing skills are lacking. The information is provided in a hodge-podge way that makes it hard to follow.
I have two science based degrees, work in the medical field, and have read more than my fair share of health-related books. So, it's not an issue of being able to grasp the information, but more an issue of the author saying too much that means nothing.
She talks about auto-immune thyroiditis or Hashimotos. She talks about the infamous "leaky gut." She mentions the danger of wheat and an overtaxed, worn-out adrenal system. Unfortunately, she's all over the place and never provides a sound logical basis for her claims that are jumbled together in a non-sensical way.
I just don't see how the average person will walk away from anything useful from this book. I know I didn't.
Interesting read with helpful information and resources. recommendations for supplements and lab testing fir managing hormones and health. detailed information on thyroid management. Recommendations for diet to regain health. Written with a positive, you can do it style, and recommends support groups to keep momentum.
This book is repetitive and could use editing, but was still very useful to me as a Hashi warrior. (I swear if I hear or read the word mojo just once more I’m gonna have a major flip out). The author toots her own horn far too often, as is frequently the case with every Hashimotos author, like Isabella Wentz. (😒🙄).
Despite being a very long advertisement, the book does convey very useful information and what’s best for me, the author has a successful life, still works and contributes to society and is a post menopausal woman with an active life, instead of being broken by her Hashimotos and celiac disease. She’s helped many menopausal and post menopausal women recover their lives after a Hashimotos diagnosis and her book has really helped me understand more about my condition.
I learned about supplements and resveratrol and glutathione in ways I hadn’t before. I also learned her mantra and will be applying it in my life: 🌟Test, don’t guess.🌟She gives very detailed explanations as to why testing is key and so now I know that anyone with Hashimotos that doesn’t run comprehensive labs is basically doomed. This is an expensive condition, folks. It’s gonna cost you a pretty penny to run the labs and to get all your answers. The author would rather have you TEST than supplement. She says you can be over supplemented (my case, exactly) and still feel like crap. (Again, my case exactly).
The author is motivated because her own mother passed due to stress, undiagnosed hypothyroidism, adrenal gland fatigue and insulin resistance. I did NOT like the way she encourages to clinically gauge whether you have Hashimotos or not, because usually diagnostics are: at least 2 of the following 5, and at least 3 of the following 7. And each list belongs to different systems, glands, hormones or whatnot. So I think that part is not very systematic. However, she does not diagnose based on oral reports of symptoms. As I just said, she runs by tests which can’t be gotten in Mexico, BTW.
Her information on how the adrenals work is very very valuable. It might be highschool level information, but it’s certainly more than what I had till this point.
