FIFTH NOVEL IN THE MAC TUFF SERIES Mac Tuff is hired by desert artist Jodie Dale to find her brother who is in trouble, again. He and friends hit safety deposit boxes and now somebody is wiping out the robbers one-by-one. They found something to use for blackmail against a senator and a mobster. Although 5th in a series, it works well as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend reading them all in order.
Mac Tuff is just that ... as a Private Investigator she has to be tough as nails. Her lover, Ace, is a former homicide detective and is always available to be backup for her.
Mac is hired by an artist to find her son who is in trouble ...again. He and his friends have robbed a bank of safety deposit boxes. Now someone is killing them off one by one. The killer is a step ahead of the hit man hired to take them out. Now his attention has turned to the killers ... as well as Mac and Ace.
Just what was in those boxes worth dying for?
This book has it all .. politics and crooked politicians, mobsters, hit men, hit women, lies, treachery, blackmail and lots of dead bodies. Some of those dead bodies were needless ..some were deserving of killing. And maybe a few more that need killing.
Everyone lies and has secrets. Everyone points a finger at someone else. It's Mac's job to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Well-written, fast paced. Characters finely drawn. Credible suspects. I found myself lost in the story and hated having to put the book down even for a few minutes. Mac and Ace have a unique relationship, and I love how they interact with each other. On a personal note, I really like the setting of Lake Havasu City .. I lived there for many years, was married there. It's another connection that makes this book stand out. Watch out for the explosive ending .. with more bodies falling.
Highly recommended!
