Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. (株式会社スクウェア・エニックス・ホールディングス) TYO: 9684 is a Japanese video game and publishing company best known for its console role-playing game franchises, which include the Final Fantasy series, the Dragon Quest series, and the action-RPG Kingdom Hearts series. Its headquarters are located in the Shinjuku Bunka Quint Building in Yoyogi, Shibuya, Tokyo.
Key things that Parting Ways establishes/addresses:
1) The reason for the Crownsguard's (and Cor's) conspicuous absence during the signing ceremony and after the Fall. This was REALLY driving me crazy in the game so I feel a little bit mollified. (By extension, this also explains why only the Kingsglaive were present during, well, Kingsglaive.)
2) Clarus and Regis being sad dads.
3) Prompto actually does have existent parents; Ignis has an uncle.
4) Gladio was the one who took it upon himself to bring his entire kitchen to the road trip. I haven't stopped laughing, this is so adorable and earnest and sneakily self-serving. (I like to imagine that Too Much Is Never Enough was playing in the background while Gladio was packing the cooking gear for Ignis to use.)
5) Clarus trying to do his version of Regis' "Walk tall" scene to Gladio. This conversation must replay in Gladio's head a lot over the course of the game.
6) Noctis' car is called the Star of Lucis, which is a lot less catchy than, say, the Regalia, and I have no idea how the characters in FFXV refer to it. Surely it has a nickname. (Because FFXV and its product placements are fully committed to being extra, the official Audi Japan website has an extensive page about the R8 Star of Lucis and how Audi got a Royal Warrant from the Kingdom of Lucis and how there's so much Tenebrae in the Lucian Royalty aesthetic. I really hope the person who buys this car puts up a vlog about the entire experience.)
Never thought I’d be crying over XV again yet here we are folks. I absolutely loved it and I wish we got a longer version as a physical book. Big fan of mentions of Nyx and Libs <333 Also the fact that Iris actually met Libertus makes me so happy for some reason. Only wish I got to see more of Nyx and Noct interactions :(( Nonetheless I absolutely loved this short prologue, guess it’s time to watch the Glaives for the 20th time and play the game again 💞
Novella pertama di 2017. Mumpung masih gandrung sama game-nya, dan baru selesai nonton Kingslaive juga. Overall, ok. Hanya sebagai pelengkap cerita aja. Mungkin lebih mirip skrip film daripada novel.
This story is more of a script than a short story, but unlike Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, that didn't dampen my enjoyment of it. This gives us more insight into what happened before the party sets off on their journey at the start of Final Fantasy XV.
You see more of Prince Noctis' life before the game's events, and his relationships with his friends/side characters. I tried to imagine it like a cutscene from the game. I could fill in the gaps from the lack of description, due to it being more like a script than a story, because I've absorbed so much FFXV media before hand. The game, DLCs, and the Brotherhood anime movie. I could literally hear the characters' voices in my head as I've spent so much time with them, 60+ hours at this point (I'm currently playing post-game content).
It is quite saddening really, because you see Noctis, Gladio, Prompto, and Ignis so happy and innocent before the tragedy of FFXV happens. You also realise that Noctis' friends have lives outside of Noctis. That when the crown city falls, they probably lost people too, their families. The game doesn't focus on this, as its centred around the main character, Noctis, and his journey, but after reading this I will view the scene where the Crown city falls in the game very differently.
Another thing was seeing things from Regis' point of view. You see the struggle he's going through, knowing what is going to happen in FFXV but being unable to tell Noctis. How he tries to adapt his plans for what he knows is inevitable, and people question him for it, but he knows that it's something he must do in order to help Noctis and the path he is about to set out on.
I would say though, you should only read this if you've played FFXV: Comrades, and/or watched the film Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV and the anime Brotherhood, as well as playing the main game, as there are some characters and locations that you would be able to visualise better and know more about if you've played/watched those first.
You can check out my review of the game FFXV and its DLCs on my blog here.
Establishes reasons for a few things that are weird about Kingsglaive, such as where the hell is Cor during the coup, for one. Reads like a script, deleted scenes from the movie or flashbacks or something - with kind of shitty formatting. Worth the 10 minutes but even still some of the scenes could have been cut further down even. Surprised they didn’t just slip in some of this dialogue in the movie and do away with this whole thing, kind of.
This was a nice, short entry in the FFXV universe. Not much happens, but you get to see what Noct and his friends were up to the day before the start of the game.
This ebook actually fills in some gaps that are left by Kingsglaive and the actual game itself. It explains a bit about why the Crownsguard was not really involved despite being the predominant service for the Kingdom. It also offers a little more background information about Gladiolus and his father as well as some info about Prompto and his Crownsguard training.
If you enjoy the game FFXV and the movie Kingsglaive give this free access publication a read but be warned that it is written like a screenplay.
With the game in full flow it was a nice little addition to the FFXV family to see what happened between Kingsglaive and the start of the game. Admittedly, not much does happen in this short script but either way, a nice little read
