The Devil King's on the beach, but there's no time to relax! People are packed into the eatery, and Maou's crew can barely keep up with the demand. Looks like the girls will have to come to their rescue! Everything's fun on the shore, but with the appearance of Maou's military adviser, is there trouble on the horizon?
If you are not reading the light novel and you are reading this review because you are curious about the manga then I suggest starting at the beginning in this funny tale of holy heroes and demonic monarchs learning to adjust to normal(ish) modern day life without their usual set of powers. Even describing what happens in the book through this review will only be scratching the surface as the manga brings the cast to life so be sure to check out this series. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. :)
With preparations completed the previous night, Maou and his crew meet the new day with a glorious sunrise and then to unexpectedly large crowds as everyone is overwhelmed quite quickly. Thankfully nearby the band of swimsuit clad beauties was ready to help turning a disaster into an opportunity as Ooguro-ya is swarmed with a seemingly endless swarm of patrons.
Oh look...Olba is making another comeback and is manipulating demonic forces normally under Satan's command (That's Maou with his demonic powers for those that forgot) while he has been stuck on Earth. Another sword of power comes with Maou's trusted advisory Camio as other demons are seeking the sword within Emi's hand but nothing comes easy for those craving power as Emi and Maou will be all but glad to point out the hard way.
Luckily renovations at the devil king's castle (his apartment) are completed quickly enough as the conflict between holy and demonic forces has left the area slightly in a state where their services will no longer be necessary as the enigmatic Amane Ooguro pulls a trick that sets everyone on their way home with quite the payday for only 2 days of work. However just because Maou sent word back to the demon realm it does not mean trouble is not just over the horizon as we move into a new chapter of everyone's lives. :)
My favorite part of the manga would have to be Maou pulling Emi close to him to her embarrassment and shock before his forces are returned to their realm and she responds with a crazy tough uppercut. :)
This was pretty good. Very curious about the landlady and her family now. I liked that part at the end with Emi and Maou, when he was explaining about the sword. It was pretty funny. I also liked the part where Maou commanded his forces like a boss. It was interesting to see a bit of Maou's past, and why the demons wanted to conquer Ente Isla. I'm curious to see more about that later on. I feel like we really haven't seen much of the kid in the past couple of volumes, which I'm a bit sad about. I'll read volume 10 tomorrow. 4 stars.
I’m getting kind of bored with this series. I liked it in the beginning when it was Maou and co. trying their best to survive in modern Japan. I think the Ente Isla plot is overly complicated and not interesting. I would quit the series now, but I already have the next 3 volume from the library, so I shall read on.
Disturbance Seaside! The Devil King in on the beach, but there's no time to relax! People are packed into the eatery, and Maou's crew can barely keep up with the demand. A quick and enjoyable read, however I do wish the plot or action would pick up speed. I don't really need more questions without something else to balance it out.
The crew has a nice, quiet beach vacation - actually they struggle to run a ridiculously busy beach snack bar and have a sobering visit from some residents of Ente Isla.
I love a good enemies-to-lovers but this ain't it, chief. I really dislike Emi and Maou together, it just doesn't make sense to me. And the Alas Ramus bs, ugh, I don't even want to go there. I'm so glad that she wasn't in this volume as much. Ooof.
The Devil is a Part-Timer is my go to series when I need a laugh and a pick me up! I find it completely hilarious, and it always makes me chuckle. I love the mix of humour and action each volume has, and this one is no different.
We open on absolute chaos and poor little Urushihara is completely overwhelmed, more so than the other two boys. Business is booming and they can't cope all on their own...so it's just as well Emi, Chi and Suzuno come to the rescue.
I'm not going to lie, Lucifer is my favourite. He cracks me up, he's just so funny, although I'd love to know more about him back in the demon realm and how he fit in with all the others. Judging from the greetings and reaction he got in this volume he wasn't taken as seriously as Alciel and the others. We get to meet Camio, Maou's military adviser in this volume, who's got to help him put down an uprising of sorts.
One of my favourite moments? Getting to see Alciel being a mildly terrifying badass...moments after he tripped over his own feet and fell face first in to the sand. He's definitely my second favourite. I find it funny that he was Maou's enemy and now he's all like "maaaster!". I'm a bit disappointed Maou sent the sword off with Camio because it could have been interesting if he'd had his own and if it helped him access his power but whatever.
This volume ends the beach arc as the gang head home after we learn some interesting information about Amane and who she is. We get some action and some badass moments for the characters, as well as some more mystery and questions to be answered. The pace could do with picking up a little bit, but I'm still enjoying every volume!
This was a fun volume, though it wasn't my favorite. I'm usually not a massive fan of action scenes in manga, so a huge portion of this book wasn't my cup of tea.
