After the assassination of her parents by the Regent of Sector 14, Dajia Bray comes of age in the mundane world, living the life of a typical young woman - save that she practices her magick in secret while nursing her hatred of the man who stole her future.
The Regent's heir, Elliott Pierce, lives in a golden palace of privilege stained by the shadow of his father's dark rise to power. As the Regent's days grow short, Eli is ill-prepared to assume both the title, and his family legacy of secret horrors.
As the Sector slips further into cold and darkness, Dajia and Eli are thrown together. Their otherworldly connection may be the last chance for their world to survive, or else prove its utter undoing.
HEATHER MARIE ADKINS writes too much but still too little. She also has too many cats, not enough tequila, and a torrid love affair with procrastination.
With a penchant for the paranormal, Heather spends her days fueled by coffee, Ancient Aliens, and true crime podcasts. She resides in an unfortunately-not-haunted Queen Anne in southern Indiana with a sarcastic husband who is entirely too dependent on puns.
When she’s not plotting her next book or herding felines, she's researching the spookier aspects of history for her podcast, Historically Weird. Find out more about her at heathermarieadkins.com.
I stepped outside my normal reading habits to read this. The author was recommended to me by a family member and she lives in the same general area, so I thought I would give it a try. Adkins has published several books and I chose this one because it was available on Kindle Unlimited. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this novel. It's a dystopian, erotic, romance, magical, fantasy; kind of a mix of Harry Potter and Divergent. I don't mean it was not original, it was, just giving a little flavor of the story and characters. It was a nice break for me, one that I enjoyed. I will definitely read more of Ms. Adkins work. 4+ stars.
Dajia Bray's parents were assassinated by the current Regent of Sector 14 so she lives the rest of her life protected under the guise of a normal human woman (she just practices a little Magick in private).
Elliott Pierce is the Regent's heir and lives a life of luxury while being unprepared for the day he has to take over as Regent.
The sector is in chaos as everything becomes cold and dark Dajia and Eli are thrown together as they struggle to save their world and everyone in it.
This is a nice story with plenty of drama as the old Regent's health starts failing. It was nicely written I just felt it was a little chaotic in places.
Sector 14 is the best of the Othala Witch Collection so far! I believe I've read them all and each are uniquely different. They're wonderful! 14 however, stands out among the many. It's sensational! I was enraptured into the world of Sector 14 with Dajia and Eli, along with the forgotten witches. The strength and compassion of each character shines brightly in Heather's attention to detail and impeccable writing. It makes you feel as if you're living inside the story itself. I give this book a magickal 5 stars! Bravo!
This is the first book I have read by this author. I loved it! It was emotional, sweet and a great add to the Othala Witch Collection! A strong heroine! She is open minded and places her faith in fate and history. A soon to be heir to the throne, who doubts himself, and his magic, mainly due to his father telling him so. The two meet by chance, never walking in the same circle. She hides herself and her magic, his face is seen everywhere by all and he needs to patch and repair the breech with his magic while his father is dying. Sweet love story and happily ever after.
I received Forgotten: Sector 14 as a review copy from the author/publisher (via InstaFreebie). The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. For a novella, this story was surprisingly well-developed with great characters and an interesting plot. I enjoyed the unique world building, and the idea of sectors with their own unusual, yet related problems. Adkins has a great writing style, and I'll definitely be checking out other books she's written. I'm also curious to read other Sector books to see what other writers have done with this theme. Well done!
This book sucked me in from the beginning. Heather Marie Adkins has never failed me when it came to a great book! The world was divided into sixteen sectors and this book was about sector 14 and the corruption that soiled it. The two main characters Eli and Dajia are easily connected with. I can't wait to read the other books in this world!
I love the magic and otherworldliness of this Othala Witch series! I am enthralled and happily addicted to the witches, the regents, the ravagers, and the romance each Othala series author has crafted. This one is a winner! Dajia and Eli are so sweet and powerful together. This is one of my favorites from this series. Happy reading!
A beginning to another world. A world where witches and humans live among one another. There's royalty and peasants. Castles, and Domes. Good people and evil beings. Oh, and to spice it up, a little sex here and there. A good read, if a bit shorter than I'd like. I'll have to find more in this series soon, lest it be ...
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was right up my alley. Prejudice against magic except for certain people and having it come back to bite you in the butt. The characters show a level of maturity as well as deeper aspects of what we can learn about those we are closest to. If you put yourself in the main characters shoes.
