About the author

Pandurang Sadashiv Sane was a Marathi author, teacher, social activist and freedom fighter from Maharashtra, India. His literature, aimed at educating children, continues to inspire the young and old. After Gandhi's assassination, he became very upset. He then died due to overdose of his sleeping pills

Guruji wrote around 135 books and about 73 books have been published and almost all these books can be considered literature for children. His most well-known work in Marathi literature include Śhyamchi Aai which has been translated in almost all the Indian languages as well as in Japanese and English. The others include 'Bhāratiya Saṃskṛti' (Marathi: भारतीय संस्कृति; Indian Culture) and Patri- the collection of various songs and poems.

One of his books, 'Teen Muley', is a heart warming story of a group of three children and is considered classic and one of the best books written in Marathi.

He started a weekly journal named Sadhana (weekly) on 15 August 1948. This journal has been regularly published since then.

साध्या , सोप्या , सरळ आणि ओघवत्या भाषेत तत्कालीन परिस्थितीवल भाष्य करत ही कादंबरी एका सामान्य शेतमजूरचा क्रांतिकारी कसा होतो हे सांगून जाते........
कुठेच नाटकीय संवाद नाहीत व नाटकीय प्रसंग नाहीत . उगाच शाब्दिक अलंकाराचे डोलारे नाहीत...
ही साध्या माणसाची असाधारण गोष्ट आहे .
स्वातंत्र्यपूर्व काळात शेतमजूरावर होणारा अन्याय-अत्याचार , त्यांची होणारी उपासमार , दैना.... उपासमारीमुळे होणारे आजार आणि त्या आजारपणात न मिळणारे डॉक्टर व औषध...
61 पानांची छोटीशी कादंबरी किंवा दीर्घकथा मनाला भिडून जाते . जे स्वातंत्र्य आपण मिळवलं त्याचं आपण किती चीझ केलं आहे ...? हा प्रश्न उपस्थित करून जाते....

कथा बऱ्याच अंशी गोप्याबद्दल असताना शेवटी शेवटी त्यात राजकारण का घुसडवलं ते कळत नाही. नाहीतर सुरूवातीपासूनच कथेचा पाया तसा करायला हवा होता. ऐनवेळी टाकलेल्या त्या राजकारणामुळे प्रचारसभा भरवल्यासारखं वाटतं.
याचा परिणाम जो काही होतो, त्यामुळे काही अंशी मूळ कथेशी विसंगती होऊन साध्य काय करायचं होतं आणि होतं काय ते कळत नाही आणि सगळी कथाच फोल ठरल्यासारखी वाटते.😕

Gopya is a story how a common man can become a freedom fighter once he realizes the meaning of life! The story starts in a very normal flow and ends with an epic of life. Well written... And depicts pre-freedom Era and farmers problem effectively

Main detail in need of correction on goodreads page is that the language of the book is Marathi, NOT English. This ought to be obvious, since the title as on goodreads shows it.

Farmers, poverty, British rule, congress, Gandhi, August 1942 uprising of India, British brutal suppression and massacres suffered by people. Those are, in short, topics dealt with in this book.

Apart from the heart rending depictions of sufferings of poor farmers, and of the British brutal suppression they suffered, one of the chief values of the book is the succinct description of the August 1942 people's uprising in India, when call was given by Gandhi.

Gopya by Sane Guruji is the story of a man named Gopal.

The book portrays the hardships Gopal faced right from birth—how he came into the world with great difficulty, survived without parents at his uncle's house, and eventually married a poor girl named Manji. Their married life was full of struggles, and their children also faced the consequences of that difficult life.

Later, Gopal became a freedom fighter and a leader of farmers. He helped them change their mindset and fight against the injustice they were facing. In the end, he sacrificed his life for his country and for the farmers.

Personally, I didn’t enjoy the book much—it made me feel really sad. But if you're into stories of struggle and resilience, this might be worth a read.

Sane Guruji ensures that you get attached to the protagonist, Gopya, very early in the story. Once that is achieved, you are left with no choice but to feel his pain, his hardship, his loss, his sorrows as your own. When the book ends, you feel that you have lived his life, a life of a farmer. What better way to tell a story than to make the reader live it.

📐गोप्या या पुस्तकात 'गोप्या' या मुख्य पात्रा च्या जिवनाविषयी माहिती वर्णन केली गेली आहे.
📐वडील गोप्या लहान असतांनाच मरण पावतात.घरची परिस्थिती खुपच बिकट.म्हणुन गोप्याची आई त्याला मामाकडे सोडून निघुन जाते.
📐त्या दिवसापासुन गोप्याचा एकट जीवन प्रवास सुरू होतो. तो मामाकडे मोठा होतो.मग आपल्या गावी निघुन येतो.लग्न करतो.मुलं-बाळं होतात.कुटुंबाची जबाबदारी.नंतर एकामागोमाग जीवनातील धक्के.मग अचानक स्वातंत्र्यसंग्रामात गोप्या भाग घेतो.नंतर चळवळीतील प्रवास.शेवटी देशासाठी बलिदान.
📐पुस्तकात लेखकाने दारीद्र्याबाबत मत मांडले आहे.दारीद्र्य किती खराब असते,त्यामुळे काय-काय नि किती समस्या उद्भवु शकतात.
📐तसेच लेखकाने १९४२ च्या भारत छोडो चळवळी बाबत वर्णन केले आहे.
त्यावेळेस भारतामध्ये एकच पार्टी कार्यरत होती, ती म्हणजे काँग्रेस, त्याबाबत वर्णन केले आहे.
📐एकंदरीत पुस्तकात १९४२ च्या भोवतालच्या काळाचे समर्पक शब्दात वर्णन केले आहे.

साने गुरुजींनी आपल्या लेखन प्रतिभेने त्या काळातील काँग्रेसचा केलेला प्रचार आहे . काँग्रेसने काय केलं हा मुद्दा वादाचा आहे पण त्या काळात काँग्रेसकडून उर्फ गांधीबाप्पा कडून काय अपेक्षा होत्या हे साने गुरुजींनी कळत-नकळत समोर आणलं आहे .
हि गोप्या नावाच्या इसमाची व्यथाच म्हणता येईल .

छोटी आणि वेगवान कथा. पात्रांबद्दल सहानुभुती निर्माण करण्यासाठी गरीबी आणि दु:खाचा सढळहस्ते वापर. पुर्वार्धात गोप्याबद्दल सहानुभुती निर्माण होते पण उत्तरार्धात कथा गोप्याची न रहाता काॅंग्रेसच्या लढ्याची होते. साने गुरुजींचा हळवेपणा त्यांच्यातल्या लेखकावर मात करुन जातो आणि गोप्या tearjerker आणि freedom fighter पेक्षा अधिक काही असला असता तर बरं झालं असतं असं वाटायला लागतं. उत्तरार्धाततर काॅंग्रेसचाच प्रचार करण्यासाठी हा लेखनप्रपंच होता की काय असंही वाटतं.
