Two worlds. Two leaders. One dominant race, the other must yield and submit. He wants her, she desires him, but duty to their people must come first. Fate has twists and turns in store for them both.
Leading an all-female crew on a deep space expedition weighs heavily on Maggie Vohlmer's young shoulders. Their mission, find a habitable planet to replace the dying Earth. While a landing party comprised of her best and brightest scientist is exploring a promising new world, they are attacked. Maggie is left with an untenable decision, pursue a powerful enemy who has taken eight of her own, or leave them to their fate while protecting the hundreds of women still under her command.
Unexpectedly, their ship is seized by the same enemy, aliens who are gorgeous, human-like men, except for their incredible height, long glossy dark hair, and extraordinary eyes in beautiful gold, teal, and violet. They are surprised when their attackers aren't the barbarians they expect, but from afar advanced society. Maggie and her crew are further shocked when they are whisked away to the aliens' world where the males make the rules and their women are expected to submit.
As leader of the Primarian Space Fleet, Commander Roth is dedicated to protecting his people and planet from otherworldly threats, as well as searching out a compatible species that will help save his dwindling race. With so much at stake, he doesn't have the time for a mate. But destiny has other plans for him, sending him the perfect match in the form of the curvy, blonde captain. Except Maggie refuses to submit willingly, and Roth refuses to bend. Both struggle to deny the passionate chemistry that flares hotly between them.
Despite the one incredible night they share, and the memories of him that haunt her every waking hour, as the Odyssey's captain, Maggie is unwilling to give up the fight for their freedom, not while her mission to save the people of Earth is unfulfilled. Will they succumb to the desire that is drawing them closer together? And when in a twist of fate, they are matched almost perfectly, can these two dedicated and determined leaders find a way to coexist? Or will Roth's resolve that she bow to his authority, even if it requires her bare bottom upturned over his knee, lead to heartache? And will Maggie, who tries her mate's patience at every turn, find a way to rescue both worlds, while learning to acquiesce to the dominance of her unexpected mate?
[Publisher’s note: A stand-alone sequel to The Barbarian’s Captive. Contains sexual scenes, spanking, and elements of BDSM.]

This one was way better than the first one. The writing was better and the characters were better.
There was more detail with the writing and better character development overall, I just wish when there was a POV change the name was displayed at the top. It made it easier for my brain to make the switch.
Still pissed me off when it mentioned Eva's punishment. Wasn't deserved since she was considered a captive in the situation and no one corrected it...but that's from the first book.
I did like Maggie and that she was willing to stand up for her and her crew, but she went from a strong character to a little on the weaker side (in my opinion) towards the end. I'm not saying her giving into the lifestyle made her weak, it just seemed like whenever he shut her down she didn't fight or try to make him understand why she was doing something. She just took the order and rolled with it, sort of lost her character personality.
I still hate the fact that the Primmarians didn't even try to get to know their mates, they just made demands and expected the to be followed. When you order and punish them for their choices and the way the show emotion tells me that they don't care about who they are as a person as opposed to what they are (i.e women for breeding).
Example: There was a part that mentioned Lana must be excited about the different rocks and ore available and everyone gave Maggie a look and asked why Lana would care. When she told them Lana was the lead geologist they are said they had no idea and were never told. When Maggie said "maybe it was because no one asked" I wanted to kiss her. They had been on this planet for weeks and Lana was never asked (even by her mate) what she did and what her passion might be. When Maggie would bring up the fact they were only wanted to "spread their legs", but then he would threaten punishment because she hasn't been given any other reason to think differenly and that annoyed me. It was like every time they argued she was punished (even if she was right) and that's how it always ended.
Just because they fought/had a disagreement it didn't mean that she should be punished. You can still be a dominate male (as we were always reminded) but still have respect for your mate to not punish her when you have a disagreement. Just because she see's something differently doesn't mean she's wrong. Why doesn't the male get punished when he does something she hates? It's brought up in the book and basically he just says that he doesn't have to be because he's the dominate/male (or something, I don't really remember word for word).
The males don't ask what the females did/enjoyed before they were taken. They punish them for having a mind to disagree with them and praise them when they do nothing.
Example: When the crew was sick and she had to take over command of the Odyssey, all she did was sit and listen to an exchange between Trask (in another ship)and another alien ship. She literally did nothing but stand there and listen, then she was praised for that. that wasn't impressive, it didn't she how she was as a captain, it just showed she and her crew were able to not crash a damn ship for 24 hours while the whole time being followed by another Primmarian ship.
Then he made her change her clothes because she was showing too much skin on Earth? It was a pencil skirt and top. He threatened to make her late because of it and wouldn't listen to her that they weren't on her planet anymore and what she was wearing was the norm. It annoyed me because he kept shutting her down at every turn and wouldn't listen to her because in his mind he will always be right and she won't.
I do like the series. I loved Maggie because she was strong for majority of the book, but I can't stand the lead males. You can still be a dominate gender and not be such as ass about it. The author can have them say all the pretty words they want, but I don't feel the relationship. It just seems like the males don't care if the females are truly happy, they just walk the line so they can stay on the females good side so they will spread their legs. And the females are just as bad because they don't challenge they just take it. Once I just want a female to say no (and mean it) and see what the male does.
Downright steaming hot and intriguing. With plenty of sensual pleasure added in these alien barbarians couldn't get any hotter. If you haven't already read anything by Maddie Taylor you really need to check out this series, you won't want to miss out on it!!!
Maybe 2.5 stars. Didn't really like Roth but I did like Maggie and the way she managed to sort her predicament out and the way she forced them to remember she was more than a flat cardboard woman.
I have to say that I love how the heroines in these books don't go all doe eyed and lose all sense of self around their mates. Maggie remains strong and determined throughout and I definitely sensed that Roth, whilst not willing to meet half way, certainly made allowances for Mags, given her unfamiliarity with their way of life. As the story unfolded he also appeared to grow in tolerance as well as try to appreciate Maggie's perspective.
I read this back to back with the first book, and am really happy to be able to say that it is very much it's own story and that Roth and Mags each had well developed personalities, distinct from other's in the series. The fact that it didn't rehash a chunk of the previous book, and any overlap was either from a new perspective or, more commonly, of events not previously experienced. I had wondered if the author would have all the stories running concurrently, which can soon lose it's appeal, but from this book it appears that each book will both move the story arc along as well as the overall time line.
His by Command is a great read, and a little longer than most other 'alien romance' books I've come across. It has good world building and a detailed plot that goes much further than capture, spank, submit! I'd go as far as to say that the submit part is never totally achieved nor, for a power-exchange story, are their really all that many punishments. Which is great as sometimes they end up distracting from the story whereas these ones enhance it. Instead time is devoted to allowing us to connect with the main characters and to believe in their relationship.
I'm definitely up for reading book #3 and very much recommend this series.
** Read the complete series. Did one review for all. **
Time to get your "Mars needs Earth women" trope fix on. Maddie Taylor's The Primarian Mates series will fulfill your jones for alien/Earther relations quite well. The series follows four couples through meeting on a distant planet, through the women's less than happy "capture", political intrigue on the planet Primaria to their happily ever afters. There is a thread of happenings that follow through each book with a resolution at the last which interconnects each book. The women are traveling the universe in search of a new planet after catastrophic natural disasters overtake Earth. Kerr is the Princep of Primaria and on a hunt when he and his friends come across the women. Instant "knowledge" that mates are among their midst has the men capturing the women and bringing them home.
Each story (Barbarian Mate, His by Command, His Rebellious Mate, and Defying the General) has uber-alpha yet adoring men with a BDSM bent (slight themes, nothing over-the-top or violent) and intelligent, loyal women who clash as their respective cultures are extremely different. Each couple's conflict is different, each experiencing their own trauma, and coming together for a happily ever after.
These are a fun sci-fi romp with healthy doses of sexy sprinkled throughout. If you are looking for a light read with action, humor and good world-building these are a great choice
The Primarian series is an excellent one. I love the way that everything works. The connections in between the main characters are just electric and all encompassing, even when they aren't getting together very well.
I like Maggie because she works really hard at being the captain that she is. She worked hard to get there and she takes her responsibility very seriously. It's her goal to help the people of Earth find a new home. But when she meets up with Roth, that plan goes south big time.
Roth makes me really mad sometimes because he doesn't seem to try to think about what's going on with Maggie and the other human women and why they may be upset as to what is going on. I mean, they were on their search for a good reason and they have a huge reason to be upset. I wish that he would've put a little more thought into that. She has a valid point. Of course, he also takes keeping his people safe and secure very seriously. And as a dominant type male, that means keeping all the women, namely Maggie, under control and behaving.
I love the conflict that comes up because of the differences between Roth and Maggie. It makes their relationship feel really real and like something anyone might have.
While I was not particularly impressed with the author's focus on spanking as a punishment for presumed misdeeds or as a sexually arousing practice, I found the storyline interesting and well written. The characters were also well developed, with the clash between the two cultures drawn out and well played. Roth and Maggie are strong characters who demonstrated the differences in gender expectations, while attempting to save both societies. Things look bad the male aliens are poisoned and the females are left to run the ship and saved the day. While some of the questions were it answered at the end of the story, like what happened to Lana and Trask or who poisoned the crew, it d end HEA for Roth and Maggie. How they got there, well, you will to read the book.
As I read the first book in this series.. I was appalled at the way the women were treated. I wasn't going to read any more of this series. I don't like when women are treated as less than they are. And spankings as punishment? Oh.. HELL NO That being said... I AM SO GLAD I DID! The growth of the main couple is slow and painful. I realize this is due to their different culters. So I bought the second book. What a wonderful surprise to find that both species are trying to find common ground. I am going to start the third book in the series... cause I need to finish the series! I Reccomend this series.😊
Disappointing after I enjoyed the first book. The biggest issue I had was that it needed edited down. The first 150 pages are nothing but her being mad they were taken prisoner and him reminding himself he doesn’t want a mate. Then once they do get together there is a bunch of sci-fi action, political nonsense, and technology details that I didn’t care about. Maybe that makes some people feel they are getting more for their money, but I read steamy romances for the sex and relationship, the rest is window dressing. I would rather read 170 pages focused on the couple than 400 pages of a B movie type space story, even if there were a better relationship woven in.
I enjoy these stories of the Primarian Mates. The Primarian Men are so hunky and although pretty cave mannish. I also love the women, who are determined not to be roughshod over by too much dominance! Because I am reading this story today as Hurricane Ernest hits Bermuda, the references to Climate Change and A nearly out of time, devastated Earth hold much relevance! I couldn't however quite get past the dates given in the next Century, when today's science on Climate Change only gives us until the middle of this century before Earth becomes near uninhabitable! I thank Maddie for highlighting the issue though!!!
"Then, now, and for eternity" These words, spoken by Primarian Commander Rothke to Earth Alliance Captain Magda, seal their mAting for life. But how does a strong independent woman from Earth give up everything including her mission, her planet and her career for love? It's no easy task is an understatement. It takes a whole lot of lovemaking, quite a few spankings, and just plain adoration from Roth to help Maggie come to terms with her new life. Loved this book and I am eagerly awaiting the next in the Primarian Mates saga.
I love this book it continued where the first one left off . I was Ted to know what happened to Maggie and Routh , a d where it would go when they went back to earth to say what news they had to the leaders to save their planet and people. This book was well written and hot, the scenes are explicit and OMG great!! ! Keep writing like just e this and I will keep purchasing your books!!
This is the second book in this series and it was just as good as the first one Maggie’s and Roth’s story kept me spellbound throughout and is about two people from different worlds coming together and trying to make it work, with us earth women we are strong and independent and are not use to men telling us what to do and it doesn’t go so well when we refuse and we end up with a sore bottom from the spanking and hopefully we will learn from it.
Commander Roth and his men capture the Earth's ship full of over 300 women scientists. Maggie is the captain of this ship. She is shocked when Roth explains a few of his planets traditions.
Even though Maggie and Roth don't want to be mated there is a strong attraction between them. Falling in love changes everything. Will Maggie give up her mission and career to be with Roth on Primaria?
Oh my what a hot book. I'm surprised my kindle didn't short out. If only some of these hot Aliens would come to Earth to help us. I'd volunteer to go. My only problem is that they may not want an older woman. Anyway a great story, the only thing these hot Aliens have to worry about is that most Earth women are very stubborn, independent and not easy to train.
A epic star fantasy of Galactic proportions., this adventure takes the readers into a world where women from earth face off against males from a distant planet are seeking out compatible females to join with to save their existence. Lots of steamy fireworks between these two species ,definitely a incredible story!
Roth & Maggie's story will captivate you from the start. It's funny, sweet, mysterious and exciting! It's also sizzling. Cannot wait to start the next book!
Loved it! It's full of conflict and surprises? If you enjoy reading about aliens romance, this is the book for you? You will not be disappointed in any way and keep them coming.
This is a interesting plot, however I wasn't a fan of the execution. I liked the fated mates and strange compatibility, but I didn't care for the male domination and discipline of mates. This was dominant alpha males gone wrong. Meh read.
I don't mind a little bdsm in my stories or alpha males but the h was the captain of her ship but she let the male walk all over her. She became some sort of doormat. When she was angry she had to be spanked without him giving an inch... The storyline itself was good.
Roth did a real quick about face. First he said he would never have a mate - his career was his life. The he was all into the mating thing. He did spend the rest of the story saying it took awhile for his head to catch up with his heart.
I read a boxed set of this series and loved every story...wish there were more. This is a new author for me and I'm so glad I found her. I will definately read more of her work.
