With no memories of her own, she must decide whether to trust her instinct or the chip implanted in her head.

Mac's world ended when Lara Douglas was killed in action. Eight months later, on an opp deep in enemy territory, he becomes the target of an assassin. The cyborg fails at her mission, and doesn't have any memory of who she was or how she became a cyborg. Determined to help the woman, Mac takes the cyborg with him in hopes of unlocking her memories.
If he's wrong about her, it could cost the rebellion.
But if he's right... then he might be able to save her.

I am happily married to my husband of almost nine years and have two wonderful children.

I have always loved reading and writing and am thrilled to have published my first novel.

Paranormal romance is my go to genre and the genre I prefer to write in. I love the unique feel of creating an entirely different world and implementing it into the human verse.

Blackout (The Cyborg Chronicles, #1) by Bethany Shaw
A Sci-Fi Romance
I have made ALL my Kindle notes on Goodreads public. This was a hard book to finish. The plot had potential, but never came through. It has a lot of different types of errors from the writing of the story to the editing and typos. Chapter 11 is missing. You never feel any connection to the main characters nor the world build. Everything feels 1 dimensional. This book needs a serious rewrite!

I enjoyed the book immensely but it did have a abrupt ending due to the serial format of the series. I absolutely have no choice but to read on in the series because the story is just so good! Thoroughly engrossing, I do not lie...I read the blurb for the next segment and it seems the new story is focused on some secondary characters from the first book. If it is as good as the first story it is well worth reading, hopefully there will be a HEA in the end of book 3, although it seems as if this story line can go on indefinitely. Thank the Amazon gods for Kindle Unlimited. Otherwise I could not afford all the serial writing that seems to be the current trend..

“Was there some part of her, the woman she’d been before, still inside? Could she find that woman beneath all the metal?”

Despite its short length, Shaw managed to deliver an overall solid and enjoyable storyline. I started it back in March, but put it down until today (end of September), so some part of me felt that the story was worth finishing.

Lara and Mac of Blackout

Two people fighting in a rebellion against tyranny from the government find themselves in a situation of the unknown. How do you get memories back of love, togetherness and who you are? How do you believe that the person you knew and shared so much before will come back to you? How do you help them to be who they were before?
Maybe you just try to love them and see what happens? Or you can read this book 📖 to find out. Highly recommended.

Lara is a sniper for the Rebellion. She and her twin brother, Jack fight to make the world a better place. Mac St. Clair is their friend and Commander. Mac and Lara are more than friends. On a mission behind enemy lines their team is ambushed and Jack is mortally wounded. Lara and Mac argue about leaving him behind. Mac forces Lara to leave while he stays with Jack until he dies.
Lara is heartbroken as she has lost her twin and miscarries Mac's baby. She leaves the team for different team in a hasty decision. Lara's new team is betrayed and Lara is severely injured and captured by the World Alliance. She receives cyborg and nanobite implants, making her more and less than human. She undergoes torture to reprogram her brain to be cyborg 112115, instead of Lara Douglas.
Eight months later she and Mac meet on the battlefield. Her objective is to kill Commander St. Clair. As a sniper, she never misses. However, she just cannot kill him. He captures her and wants to find out more about where she has been and where her loyalties lie with the Rebellion or with the World Alliance. Things are about to get very interesting!
This is a great start to a new series. There are interesting characters, lots of intrigue and drama. This is a fast paced book that is hard to put down. I am looking forward to finding out more about the Rebellion and the World Alliance.

Mac stands by his woman, Lara on the other hand... was blindsided by grief.

The action was really well done, which from the start hooked me... because Lara was no push over, right from the start. Then she went through hell, and came out the other side... tougher in some respects, more determined in others, and with a will and core that was staggering.

Mac on the other hand was a squad leader in the rebellion, capable of making the tough calls, and he was tested throughout the story. Surrounded by people who had his back, but were willing to stand up to him, and not blindly follow him created some interesting team dynamics, and some great twists throughout the story.

There were several characters in the story that were interesting enough to carry tales all their own, and the world building was detailed enough, and interesting enough to have given me everything I needed to feel immersed in this story, and yet want to revisit this world and find out more. We know what some teens who fled to the rebellion thought of main stream society, but it might be interesting to see this world from the opposite perspective as well, especially since late in the story it was suggested that the government was influencing was average citizens thought about the rebellion.

I was gifted with a copy of this story, and chose to leave a review.

Lara has suffered so much loss. After losing her twin, she just wants to shut herself off from everyone and be numb. In a twisted way, she gets what she asked for. Eight months later Mac is deep in enemy territory and the cyborg that is supposed to kill him misses. Mac is staring at a face he never imagined he would be seeing again. She has no idea who he is, but he is determined to bring back her memories and prays it won't cost the the rebellion.

I wasn't sure i would like this book, as it isn't the stuff I usually read. I loved it, couldn't put it down. Lara has been through so much and yet she refuses to be the Alliance's puppet. She is one heck of a strong woman and goes through so much to get back to herself. Now she has a new mission and she wants Mac there to help her. Can't wait to read the next book, I want to know what happened to the Doctor and Gage.

Unique and Engaging Sci-Fi Romance!!!

We met members of the rebellion fighting the World Alliance. In particular Lara is a sniper and Mac is her squad leader. When Lara’s brother becomes a casualty, she can no longer stand to be attached to those she may lose, so she cuts off the relationship she had with Mac.

Unfortunately the change in squad has her working with a traitor and she is captured and turned into a cyborg. When a raid for supplies has Mac come under fire by a sniper – who misses – he realizes it is Lara shooting at him; but Lara never misses. Is there a piece of her humanity left inside this machine – or will taking her with them bring an end to the rebellion?

A refreshing and distinctive view of a dystopian future – where survival is a struggle, and your squad is your family.

The world is being run by the elite called the Alliance. They chose who works, lives and even who gets food. The resistance is small but will not stop. Lara and Mac are part of the Alpha team for the resistance. Both have lost loved ones and with Lara's brother, Jack, have trained together for years. But an unexpected betrayal turns Lara over to the cyborg program for the Alliance. Will she now kill her friends and be just a mindless computer?

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.

would she ever be the same again? 5 GOLD HEARTS

Or was the woman he knew truly lost forever? God he really hoped his gut was right on this. At first, he’d hated their heated arguments... until he’d grown to love them. Who knew the heat of an argument could lead to phenomenal sex? WOW!! What a MAGNIFICYBORG story!! It's a little hard to describe all of its awesomeness without spoilers, but the best way I can think is to say it’s like Terminator meets Star Wars: A New Hope meets the final couple of episodes of that tv show Chuck (starring Zachary Levi), all while still being its own completely & purely genius romance story! Blackout is so unlike anything I have ever read before, which is why I was glued to my tablet the entire time!! I cannot imagine living in a world such as the one in here, but I certainly got a taste of what it could be like!! I loved that this one was told a lot from Mac’ point of view. Seeing & living a futuristic war filled with romance through the eyes of the male warrior/soldier is definitely a unique experience for me, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed! And yes, I know I can be emotional, sensitive even, but well... Okay, fine! I am a total sap and started crying almost from the moment I started reading! But that IS a good thing! It shows just how quickly & how deeply I was entrenched in the story and caring for the characters! It just touched my heart and with Bethany’s amazing story development & multifaceted characters, it sucked me right from the start, connecting with the characters immediately!! Even I was a little surprised by just how deeply I hurt for Lara & Mac! But with Bethany's formidable writing skills and phenomenal talent I shouldn't have expected anything less!! The Cyborg Chronicles has me simultaneously wishing it was shorter so I would know how it ends and cursing that it IS only a trilogy because I love, Love, LOVE IT THAT MUCH!!! It's filled with complex characters I instantly fell for & cared about, they constantly are in situations that have me holding my breath & white knuckling my tablet to the point I am fearing for its life, all while bringing me the romance I love and a story that is so creatively unique & unlike ANYTHING I have ever read before, in EVERY and ALL of the BEST ways possible!!

How do you find your old self again? Lara is a soldier that won't give up even though she has lost so much but that is all about to change. Her brother gets killed and she loses her unborn baby and even though she is angry and very hurt she leaves the one man that loves her. Mac can't understand why Lara won't let him in, he had no choice to leave her brother, they both would have been killed if they stayed. Now he has lost her for good, her last mission went bad and everyone was killed.
He has had to carry on but that is all about to come crumbling down as Lara is still alive but she has been turned into the enemy. Lara is part machine now and she will complete her mission and that is to kill Mac. She doesn't remember him as she memories are so destroyed, can Mac trust her again? Or is she lost forever this time? Lara gets small glimpses of her old life but she knows that it won't last as she is no longer the woman that she was.
Can Mac make her see that she is still the woman that he loves and that he won't give up on her ever? Can she prove to him that she is not all machine and that she can find her way back? A great read.

There is quite a bit of 'pre' story, where Lara loses her twin brother and a baby in one day then loses her temper with her lover and moves to another team in the resistance. But her team is attacked and she is taken by the World Alliance and turned into a cyborg.
The rest of the story is loosely held together and wraps up by saying you are not the only one.
Mac and Lara are sweet on each other and there are other characters that are intriguing too!
This was a free book and first in series and I will be looking for more by thus author
