Assessment For Learning

Rate this book
Teaching is a demanding and complex profession. Many teaching professionals work in under resourced schools and in jobs that are incredibly challenging and complex. They can attest to the fact that teaching is not rocket science. In many ways, teaching can be even more challenging than scientific endeavors Meeting the demands of the teaching profession requires tremendous will, ability, and preparation. It also requires continuous learning and support Assessment plays a critical role in teaching and learning and should have as its goal the development of students as independent and autonomous learners. As an integral part of teaching and learning, assessment should be planned concurrently with instructions and integrated seamlessly into the learning cycle to inform instructions, guide next steps, and help teachers and students monitor students' progress towards achieving learning goals It is worth noting, right from the start, that assessment is a human process, conducted by and with human beings, and subject inevitably to the human judgement. However crisp and objective we might try to make it, and however neatly quantifiable may be our results',assessment is closer to an art than a science. Assessment is the process of gathering information that accurately reflects how well a student is achieving the curriculum expectations in a subject or course The primary purpose of assessment is to improve student learning Assessment for the purpose of improving student learning is seen as both assessment for learning and "assessment as learning". As a part of assessment for learning, teachers provide students with descriptive feedback and coaching for improvement.
