With an equally wealthy and powerful woman in his life who's constantly on his trail and treachery around every corner, he has more then enough on his plate. This read was a delightful whirlwind—short, sweet, and deliciously messy. We begin with two strangers, Key and Trent, who meet at a red light in traffic, leading to an unexpected entanglement. Trent is supposedly married to Skye, who’s pregnant and certainly doesn't appreciate her husband's wandering eye. But as the story unfolds, we discover that Skye is not as innocent as she seems—her affair is jaw-droppingly scandalous.
The twists and turns in this book are filled with deception and betrayal; I could hardly tell who to trust! With so much treachery afoot, I’m on the edge of my seat, eager to dive into book two to find out what fate awaits Trent and Key. Can't wait!
Key, like come on girl why were your expectations so high knowing fromthe beginning about his situation with skye. Skye is sneaky and a hypocrite. Can’t wait to read pt. 2
I made it to Chapter 8. The story was shaping up to be one of those books where none of the characters are likable. The FMC is a jump off. The MMC is a cheater. The probable baby momma is a hoe. The MMC’s twin is down bad. And at this point I don’t want to meet anyone else.
The sequence of events is also unbelievable so I don’t have the capacity to look over all the nonsensical and crappy characters so… dnf.
Spoiler** Now, I grew up and have been around stuff where shots were shot. In those moments, you become more aware of where you are, who you are with, and what is around you. The author wants us to believe that shots rang out in a club and the FMC (who carries a gun on the regular) completely blanks out. She absentmindedly let a man she doesn’t know whisk her away to a car she’s never seen being driven by another man she doesn’t know to a place she doesn’t know, had her hand on her gun but didn’t aim or shoot at anyone???? Then she sent her location to her friend but couldn’t call a cab cause…. She didn’t know her location??? Then the driver that she doesn’t know is eyeballing her but she went and changed into the club guy’s clothes and just patiently chill at his house knowing he has a pregnant ole lady. Then the negro tells you to get comfortable when he finally makes it to the house, yall don’t get to know each other, you don’t ask about the previous wife/ you spinnanite and wake up and cook this stranger breakfast?????? Then when the BM you conveniently forgot about shows up, you feel the need to comfort the cheater????? I couldn’t go anymore after that.
The only thing I like about this book was the cover.
This is a good mess! It's a lot going on on such a few pages! Betrayal, love, greed, disloyalty, and family. You would think it would be opp or enemy in that description but nope.... Sometimes it do be your own family! Take this ride with Trent and Key to see how everything gets started and begins to unfold.
La Crook did her big one with Key and Trent! Key knows that Trent is a walking red flag, but she can’t help but fall on sight. Little does she know that her whirlwind romance will become messier than she could have ever imagined. A short story of love and betrayal, In The Myx was an instant page turner for me. On to part two!
This was a ride and a half. I literally have nothing bad to say about this and I can’t wait to jump right into the next book! The ENDING!!!!!! Oh yeah I need book 2.
It’s so much going on that keeps you engaged from chapter 1. Betrayal, suspense, a kindling romance that leaves you with a cliffhanger yearning for more.
In The Myx was everything I love about a hood story: messy situations, real emotions, and characters that don’t have it all together—but you ride for them anyway. Latrice Crook gave us a story that felt like a front-row seat to everybody’s business… and I was tuned in like it was my own.
The drama? Top tier. The characters? So real you swear you’ve met them before. And the relationship dynamics? Whew. Some of it had me clutching my pearls, other parts had me yelling “GIRL, BE FR” out loud. But what I loved most was that this book wasn’t just about the mess—it had heart. These people were fighting for love, loyalty, and a better version of themselves.
Latrice Crook wrote it in a way that felt raw and unapologetically us. She showed the highs and lows of love in the hood—how complicated it gets when feelings, pride, and past pain are all tangled together.
If you love a good ride-or-die type story with a whole lotta twists, realness, and characters that stay on your mind even after the last page—In The Myx is THAT book.
Omg! This is a must read! Every page kept you on the edge. I just knew Trent was a good guy and sky was crazy but nope! I feel bad for Key...but karma is real! Who's baby is it sky? Part 2 where are you??
