This is a classic book about a businessman named Demos Shakarian. God gave Demos a vision of millions of men all over the world who had blank looks on their faces. He then was taken on trip around the world and saw these same men who found the secret to becoming the "Happiest People on Earth." With God's leading, Demos started the "Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International" The Fellowship grew to over 8000 Chapters in 143 Country's and is still very active today. His vision has inspired millions of men and women to fullfill their God given destiny. This book has had a major impact on the Christian World for over 60 years.

Totally fascinating story of immigrant ingenuity at the turn of the century but coupled with the power of the Holy Spirit. Like, WOW.
My dad gave his heart to Jesus at a Full Gospel Mens Fellowship meeting in Atlanta. So, this was super cool to hear the story behind the man who started it.
And if you like miracles--WHOA--total MUST READ.
2024 update: read this again and highlighted a million more cool stories and insights. Wow.
History. Biography. Narrative. Inspiration. Love. Perseverance. Character. This book has it all. Do you want to see what Jesus can do with one surrendered life, even in the midst weakness, tragedy, trails and tribulations? Then this book is for you. Follow the story of Demos Shakarian and his family from Armenia to the United States. This book is heartfelt, a heck of a lot of fun & it will cause you to ponder the bigger issues of life. I put my personal recommendation on this book as a top 5 book that I have ever read. My grandfather told me about this book years ago and I am so glad I finally took the time to read it.
This book is inspiring and uplifting. I cried tears of joy. This book touched my heart and soul. It ignited a new spark in me and I am excited to see what comes next. Thank you for stuff an inspirational read.
An inspiring story of an ordinary man who had a business career but turned it over to the Lord throughout with world-changing consequences. His reliance on and obedience to God in every decision large and small was beautiful.
BY FAR my favorite book I’ve read so far this year and instantly one of my all-time favorites. The absolutely incredible story of how a simple dairy farmer gave his life to God and together, they changed the world. Authored by Elizabeth & John Sherrill, (who are of God’s Smuggler, The Hiding Place, and The Cross and the Switchblade acclaim) The Happiest People on Earth gets its title from one of the founding beliefs of Demos Shakarian, that:
“When we discover and put to use whatever gift we have been given by God, that no matter the condition of the world around us, we will be the happiest people on earth.”
Truly one of the most faith-building, encouraging, and remarkable books I have ever read. I cannot recommend it more highly. Wow. Still blown away as I think of but a few of the God-sized stories of transformation and miracles that took place over the course of this book. It’s just one of those books you have to read for yourself. Truly a Christian Classic that deserves a spot on your bookshelf next to the Sherrill’s other works listed above that every follower of Jesus should read no matter the age. (The Hiding Place, God’s Smuggler, The Cross and the Switchblade…all 10/10 recommendations of the highest order.)
I just love stories about what an extraordinary God can do through ordinary people when they simply trust and follow Him. This is one such story, beautifully told. Enjoy!
This pentecostal/charismatic story of Demos Shakarian includes deaths as well as healings, and times of "hearing the Spirit" that turned out to be evil spirits.
For that reason alone I was more inclined lay my skepticism to the side.. maybe some day I'll have time to research his organization a bit more...
This is a very good book, unfortunately the Kindle edition has hundreds of missing parts. You’ll have a hard time getting the full picture because of it. I hope Kindle resolves this situation, then I would give the book at least 4 stars
This proves to me that God wants to partner with us/me to see the lives of every man, woman and child saved. He will use any person who is willing to heed His call.
I read this book back in the early 1980s when I was a new believer, but reading it now after all these years of studying the scriptures, I found that this book blew my mind in that I have never heard of a single person having so many encounters with the Holy Spirit, miraculous revelations, physical healings and prophecy.
It was also interesting to read about Pentecostal Armenians who received a prophecy and fled their homes pre-Armenian genocide and that also affiliated with the Azuza Street revival. While I have encountered many evangelical Armenians, I have never met a single Armenian who was Pentecostal.
This was a very enlightening and encouraging book. I think everyone who reads this, Christian or non-Christian will have their eyes opened to see that there is much more to the Christian walk than many of us have dared to explore.
Are you looking for a book that you will maybe find humorous and then forget tomorrow? This is definitely not that book! This book will give you peaceful reassurance and will make you shed tears of joy! These people, they have more than an anthropological biography of a great move of God, but an enduring testimony that will reach the very core of the reader. You will find your struggles entwined with his struggles and rejoicing with each overcome obstacle. This book is a gem to be treasured!
