For years David Hathaway smuggled Bibles into Communist Eastern Europe, through the Iron Curtain. Using his travel company, at first, he took a few copies on trips; later using a specially designed coach, he was able to take up to 5,000 Bibles or 10,000 New Testaments at any one time. David smuggled more than 150,000 before he was eventually arrested at the Czech border. In a case widely reported in the press, he was held, tried and sentenced to two years' imprisonment. This is his own account of his Bible smuggling operations; of his arrest, trial and imprisonment; of life inside a communist prison; of the miracle of his release; and the part played by Prime Minister Harold Wilson in securing his release.
