This anthology contains the first four installments in The Ghosts of Culloden Moor series, including THE GATHERING, LACHLAN, JAMIE, and PAYTON. Ultimately, there will be over 80 books in the series.
"These rough, braw men of mine... 'Tis more than just pride and injustice that keeps them tethered to the moor. But pride is what I'll use to get them to go on. Ye see, I've known for a long while I'll know no peace until they've found theirs." ~Soncerae Muir
When I first started this I honestly thought it would be super cheesy and it kind of was at first but it actually grew on me after awhile. I really loved the idea of the 79 ghosts and Soncerae helping them cross over, I’ve never read anything quite like it and I really enjoyed it! I found myself really getting into the stories and rooting for the ghosts to have their happy ending.
I loved the Scottish romance weaved through these stories. However, the grammatical errors and distorted sentences, though not excessive, were the result of the 4 star rating. I do recommend reading these stores if you enjoy ghostly tales with the romance of a Scottish warrior. Very enjoyable and looking forward to the other 76 stories.
I'll say this, thanks to reading these stories, I now want to add Culloden Moor to my travel bucket.
Setting the stage in The Gathering laid a firm foundation. The proceeding stories were unique and each carried believable characters.
Though not all Scots have six-packs, each of the men who bled the ground red at Culloden were real heroes. I love how, in the end, each ghost seemed to realise there was something far more satisfying than vengeance: love.
Fascinating paranormal series! I've always held the Battle of Culloden Moor deeply embedded in my heart for the extreme loss of life and betrayal that met the men who bravely fought to save their people from the English. Even though these stories are a fantasy, they help ease the pain of the tremendous loss to those of us who have Scottish blood running through our veins. Thank you, Ms. Muir, for caring to ease that pain, even if just for a wee bit.
If you’re writing short novellas there is no excuse not to have them proofread and edited properly!
The first story of Lachlan was cute, but kind of TOO cute and the grammatical errors were EVERYWHERE. That coupled with no steam at all in the novel aside from some kissing and it just doesn’t hold my interest.
This was a fun read and I really enjoyed the premise of the story. I just wish a better final edit had been done. There were so many errors it put me off reading any more of this series!
The Gathering (The Ghosts of Culloden Moor #1), my first read from author L.L. Muir. My wife is a Scottish romance reader & sometimes the books she reads influence me. I don't restrict myself to a particular genre. I'm a sucker for anything with memorable characters and a story that keeps me guessing. The perfect novel? A book that keeps me turning the page long after I should have called it a night. This was a well-written short read, only 50 minutes in length. I'll read more from this author, in this series, but what really got me going was narrator Andrew McDermott, I love his Irish brogue. This is my fourteenth listen from him.
Lachlan (The Ghosts of Culloden Moor #2), my second read from author L.L. Muir. A well-written short read, 3-hours 57 minutes in length.
Jamie (The Ghosts of Culloden Moor #3), my third read from author L.L. Muir. A well-written short read, 108-pages/2-hours 44 minutes in length. Even better than the first 2 books of the series,
Payton (The Ghosts of Culloden Moor #4), my fourth read from author L.L. Muir. Another well-written short read, 124-pages/3-hours in length. The best book of the series to date.“I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Sigh... The premise of these books was so intriguing that it reeled me in right away. Unfortunately, the writing and characters were so flat and the plots so unbelievable (ghosts notwithstanding of course) that volume 1 was a huge disappointment. That along with all the typos and grammatical mistakes turned me right off. So sad because this series had promise and could have been great. I may decide to read about Soni and Simon just out of curiosity if that story ever comes along.
I technically dnf'd this on page 307, but there were less than 100 pages left and I'm gunna give myself this one. This is volume one and it contains the first three novellas (novels?) in LL Muir's Ghosts of Culloden Moor series. The Gathering is a strong start and is in Lachlan's POV so it fed right into his story. Jamie was also good, but by the time I started with Peyton... no. Very formulaic, very much same same as Lachlan. I won't be continuing the series.
These four stories of ghost who must overcome the past that haunts them and the witch who fosters their journey, is a breath of fresh air. It was as if I could hear the Scottish voices of ancestors long gone narrating. Romantic, thrilling, heart pounding adventures await if you endeavor to read these books. I enjoyed every moment!
Soni a witch, has become acquainted with 78 ghosts which are men that died at Culloden Moor in 1745. She has struck a deal with each and it must be a heroic feat they accomplish in order to take on Bonnie Prince Charlie in revenge. Each has a special story which makes for a very fun series.
I started this book over 3 times because I was interrupted in the middle of it. I read Lachlan and Jamie's story twice. My favorite was Jamie because no one had to stay as a mortal and experience death again. One thing I just noticed was the two witches were named for the author, nice touch.
I actually enjoyed these stories even though the writing was really not that good and sometimes confusing when there were several characters in a scene, but the stories were enjoyable and I laughed out loud often. Quick, easy and light reading, just what one needs sometimes
I really liked this book. It really shows how sometimes a change of perspective can really make a difference in our lives. Each person started out with a desire for revenge in their hearts but looking at things from a different viewpoint allowed each one to let go and move on. Can’t wait for more books in this series.
This is really a collection of fun, interesting short stories that deal with ghosts from the Battle of Colloden in Scotland of 1745. Each man’s story is unique and special as they learn to forgive and move on from their tragic deaths years before. This is not great writing, but it is fun and interesting.
I enjoyed these. Short, easy reads. Probably ok for older teenagers to read and definitely adults. Clean romance with some slight innuendos. Some of them made me laugh. I love the Highlander’s and the plot is interesting. I will keep reading this series. There are just some typos and grammar issues that I deducted a star for.
I did enjoy these little romantic stories , but just a bit too sugary sweet for my taste. For those who want tamer romance for themselves or young daughters I'd give this a 5 star rating. Nothing in the least bit racy here but lots of sweet kisses and pounding hearts. I may even decide to read more of this series.
This series The Ghosts of Culloden Moor is lots of different stories of all the men who died at the battle of Culloden Moor. Eventually their will be over 80 books in the series and already are quite a few. The Ghosts that were killed in the battle are brought back to life and each short story is about one of them in the current time period.
Actually another author recommended this book series to her FB group who were waiting on her next book to come out and I must say I am glad I took her advice and started this series, each story is a little different. 74 stories to go.
Adorable, four stories in the pack. Each just S cute as the last. Unusual premise. Wonder if 79 ghosts each with their own story will end up being too many but so far at four still interested
I liked the way the author wove the century’s together allowing the “Gnostics” to manage their quests. I feel anyone that likes a non-graphic love story would enjoy these stories. I intend to look further into L.L. Muir’s writings.
Very well written with descriptive details that allowed me to paint clear pictures of the characters and scenery in my head. A perfect dive into realistic fantasy.
The stories were all fun but ridiculous. I enjoyed them well enough, and they helped me pass some very long airplane flights. What more can I ask for mindless reading.
Nicely spun mystic romance. Lovely attention to ethic details. Each story stayed with the original design while bringing out the stories of the independent characters
Read this in less than a week, could not put it down. I just started Volume 2. It has everything, humor, sadness, that Scottish Highlander brawn. I think it could have been edited better but still very good read.
Fans of Outlander will enjoy this book because it flips the script and sends the Highlanders forward in time. Their age is charming, brave, gorgeous, and Gallant as Jamie Fraser. I enjoyed this book so much, I bought the next in the series.
I don't usually write out a review, however I loved the stories in this 1st collection. They were heartwarming, romantic and well written. There was a good variety of tales. Just the right length. Can't wait to read the next collection.
I absolutely love this book. I intend to read all of them. I love the way that the author develops her characters. Sometimes it really helps to read something so heartwarming.
