Sean Flanagan has spent a lifetime alone and rejected, constantly hiding who he really is.
With a father who deserted him and a mother who despised him, Sean didn’t think things could get much worse … until he was kicked out of home for being gay. Now he’s discovered he has three half-sisters on the other side of the world. This might be his last chance to find people who will love and accept him. But he’s terrified that if they find out who he really is then they’ll reject him like the rest of his family.

Sean arrives in Houston and is stunned by the warm welcome he receives from his sisters. He begins to hope that maybe this time things will be different. That’s when he meets Hayden Johnson. To follow his heart means risking everything with his newfound family.

Hayden is tired of endless dating. He’s looking for a man to love, someone to spend the rest of his life with. His boss’s new brother ticks all the boxes on the attraction scale, but there’s just one problem – he’s not gay.

Claire Boston fell in love with romance and romantic suspense at eleven when she discovered her mother’s stash of Nora Roberts novels. Like Nora, she writes series set around families or groups of friends with a guaranteed happy ending.

She loves travelling and learning about new cultures and interesting vocations which she then weaves into her writing.

When Claire’s not at the computer typing her stories she can be found creating her own handmade journals, swinging on a sidecar, or in the garden attempting to grow something other than weeds.

A Place to Belong. Isn’t that what we all want out of life? A place to live, to love, to trust, to be loved, to be accepted, to feel at home. That’s exactly what Sean Flanagan is wanting. Exactly what he’s been missing his whole life.

Sean is thrust into a whole new world since the discovery of his three half-sisters. He’s spent his whole life feeling like an outsider—the unloved bastard child. Unloved by his own mother and kicked out at a young age due to being gay, Sean’s lived quite a solitary life. He doesn’t quite know what to make of his sisters’—Carly, Bridget, Zita—openly affectionate ways. Their immediate acceptance of him because he’s their blood. Sean’s afraid to tell them he’s gay—he’s afraid he’ll lose out on his chance to have a real family.

Hayden has been a part of the crazy Flanagan family for years through his job as Carly’s assistant. He’s treated and loved like family by all the Flanagan women—including Carmen, their mother. Hayden’s looking to start a family of his own—a man to love and be by his side for the rest of his life.

When Sean and Hayden meet, their attraction is instant. But will Sean’s fear of rejection keep him from following his heart? Will he take a chance on love?

I love this Flanagan Sisters series so much. I love that Ms. Boston added and unexpected fourth book because I needed a Sean and Hayden story. I loved how Sean and Hayden’s relationship developed quickly and that they fell so hard so fast—so similar to the girls. I loved Carmen and her wisdom and her welcoming heart. I loved getting closure on Carly and Evan, Bridget and Jack, and Zita and David. Can you tell I just loved this book? ~ Missy, 5 stars

Well, this turned out to be my favourite of the Flanagan Sisters books (and we do get to see plenty of the sisters in the book). I confess the main reason I bought it was because it was the fourth book in the series and I'd enjoyed the others. I'd never even read a gay romance before. I loved it and couldn't stop reading. This is a touching story with warm characters you can relate to – what more could you want?

“The Flanagan sisters really do know how to love, don’t they?”

And Claire Boston really does know how to write a compelling, unique love story. I wasn't expecting, necessarily, to get a fourth book in her Flanagan Sisters series—charmingly struck-though on the cover to convey that Place to Belong is about Sean Flanagan, the girls’ newly discovered brother. But oh, I am glad that Ms. Boston gave Sean a chance to find his HEA.

He most certainly deserved it.

And I most certainly loved it. It wasn't perfect—at times, it actually felt a little too perfect in how things came together—but it was thoroughly enjoyable and filled with characters who were impossible not to love. These sisters, their mother, and now Sean, have a way about them that just makes you want to read more and more and more. They're socially minded, caring people and the way the author manages to bring light to certain topics, while also showing us that love can be found in all places, is truly delightful.

Not to mention the way she can pull emotion after emotion out of a reader. I lost count of the number of times I welled up reading this book; I couldn't stop thinking about what Sean had been through, how every kindness felt genuine, how every ounce of love was more than enough to make me heart pound. And that's not even mentioning Hayden.

Hopefully it's enough to say that Hayden—and indeed the entirety of this low on angst, high on feels story—was easy to connect and fall in love with. And while I'm sorry to see this series come to its conclusion, I can hardly think of a better way for it to end—for the Flanagan Sisters and their brother.

“You’re everything to me Hayden, and I’m not scared anymore.”

A Joyfully Jay review.

The cast of characters in A Place to Belong was just about perfect. Sean’s vulnerability alongside Hayden’s confidence was a great mix…not too strong. Sometimes, a character who is terrified of being outed/not being accepted can grate on my nerves. Too much self pity is…well…too much. Also, when there are a lot of characters to keep track of, I find myself getting bogged down in the details. Once again, keeping in mind this is the fourth book in a series, I could have easily been lost, but the ongoing plot was not overwhelming at all. There was not a bad person in the bunch. It’s quite refreshing to not have an abusive ex or a corporate villain popping up out of nowhere.

Sean and Hayden have fantastic chemistry. They’re perfect for each other. Hayden is supportive and loving. He’s also gentle with the soul of a man who sees himself as entirely broken. When they got together, I was so happy for them. It was almost like seeing two dear friends finally discovering they’re meant to be. Also, a real bonus is they were so good with teens in trouble. Hayden
volunteers at a center and brings Sean along.

YOU CAN READ THIS AS A STAND ALONE!

Whew... Even though I asked and got an answer to that question, I still worried. That is the best kind of series book, one where its helpful but not truly necessary to read previous books.

Now... I RARELY (like never) Read Acknowledgements or About the Author sections. I think what grabbed my attention in Acknowledgements is "This book could not have been set in my home country of Australia..." Of course I'm thinking what is the answer to that.. So while not actually said, there's a strong implication that this is the author's FIRST mm romance.

I can say.. Can I get this out in the best way?..The story itself is pretty darn good. The focus is definitely on romance. The sexual aspects are pretty bare bones, kissing, blowjob without much detail, and intercourse? Well, yes but there are NO details on this. Don't even truly know if they are switches or if there's preference for bottom or top. If I had to guess I'd be more inclined to think Sean is top. So while there's a major lacking in the sexual avenues, the romance is actually more important in this instance.

Sweet discovery

Lovely written romance. Sean goes to America to meet his half sisters. His only problem he was scared they would reject him for being gay.
The writing drew you into his internal turmoil. The love his new family showed him he tried not to trust.
Hayden meets Sean and their was instant attraction.
The romance even though immediate was believable.
Lovely easy romance.

I love this family and it is only getting better with the addition of Sean. Those that have read the rest of The Flanagan Sisters series will know what to expect – great characters, smooth writing, and a realistic story that draws you in from the start. Boston hasn’t turned away from difficult issues before and she doesn’t here either. She does a great job of putting a face to some hard social issues – like homosexuality, homelessness, teen pregnancy, abuse.

I feel so bad for Sean, that he thinks he has to hide his sexuality and that’s he’s afraid that he won’t be loved if anyone finds out. I know that this isn’t such an uncommon thing, even today (or maybe especially today), but it breaks my heart to have it laid out so well and with such an endearing character. Boston does an amazing job of capturing his fear and showing us why he feels the way he does. You know that he’s wrong about the Flanagan's but he doesn’t and she makes sure you understand that.

Hayden has a lot of patience and is willing to give Sean the time he needs to see that it’s OK to be gay, that his newfound family will still accept him. It’s not easy to hide their attraction but he’s willing to do it for now. It’s a nice contrast of the man who feels comfortable with who he is, loved and accepted by his friends & family, with the man who has been shunned for the same thing.

While Hayden is just so completely awesome (which returning readers already know), it is really Sean’s journey that we are here for. The moment that Sean realizes that he’s going to be OK is so touching and, as he gets some resolution with his present and his past, you feel such joy for him to be able to have that. Even while it is a heartbreaker that he had to be there at all.

Although this is part of a series, it isn’t necessary to have read the rest to enjoy this story but it will help you understand the rest of the characters. And they are such great stories, so why wouldn’t you want to read them all!

**I received an advance copy of Place to Belong in return for an honest review**
I really enjoyed the final instalment of The Flanagan Sisters from Claire.
Claire has shown her versatility in writing romance with this book and the primary relationship between Sean and Hayden. The characters are very believable and the issues they face are very real.
Place to Belong is a fitting end to the series, as all of the books are tied together with this one.
I look forward to reading more of Claire's books in the future.

This was a great read, I loved the development of the romance between Sean and Hayden. This wasn't just a love story though, or at least, not just a romantic love story. Through the course of the book Sean finds the love of a family he didn't even know that he had and learns to love, or at least accept himself.
I haven't read any of the other books in the series, but I'd be quite keen to go back and give them a go.

I fell in love with this book very early on and may just have to go back to read the rest of the series!

Sean just found out he has three half sisters in the States and has been invited by them to come to their weddings. Sean is excited to meet them, hoping that it will mean some family for him, but he is also terrified because it is his last chance for family. As the book goes we learn more and more about Sean's home and family life growing up and now and it paints a bleak picture. Sean is a kind and caring man who wants to be there for family and is amazed by the love that the Flanagan's give him. But he is afraid that coming out as gay will ruin that family, taking away his last chance, so he is tentative and afraid, keeping a part of him back the whole time. The book was really a journey for him, one of finding love both of family and romantically, and it was a moving and beautiful story the whole way through!

Really good!

This is part of a series, (which I haven't read), but works very well as a standalone. Sean has had a hard life, so much so that he can't believe he's found a family that wants to love him. Add in Hayden, a lovely man who falls Sean almost immediately. Sean very slowly begins to believe,. He gets closure with his past and starts a happier future with his new family and the man he loves. I loved that it was low angst, but tugged at the heartstrings. Definitely recommend 😊

I loved this book so much! Sean and Hayden’s relationship is so sweet. The hardships that Sean’s character has been through was so sad but his strength in overcoming it all is uplifting.
This book is a must read. It’s story filled with the kind of love that everybody deserves to have.

Heart warming story

I liked the fact that all the Flanagan family accepted Sean for who he was. The caring and concern shown to all was inspiring and heartfelt.

This was precious. I felt for Sean from the beginning. This was such a sweet and adorable guy. He was kind and loving. All he wanted was to be accepted and loved. His whole life this wasn’t granted to him. His mom resented him and treated him like a burden and her punishment. Even when we meet her she is a horrid person. And her lying was just so wrong. Sean is such a better person than her. She doesn’t deserve such a sweet son.

when Sean connects with his half sisters his fear is valid. So are his concerns for he has been turned away from childhood and doesn’t know who to trust. So now he has three sisters and woman who was married to his dad he thinks should hate him and a man he is attracted to but afraid to let anyone know that side of him.

His sisters are so loving and caring with him we see him start to let down his guard. He sees what family is and how they accept him. We see him begin to hope. Hope that they are real and not acting. Hope that he can be himself.

Hayden is the man that Sean is attracted to. And he is perfect for him. Only issue I have is he has a hard time understanding Sean’s perspective. He hasn’t had it hard for his family was loving and accepting so it’s hard for him to understand when someone wasn’t given that when they come out. He is so caring and loyal. the attraction between him and Sean is incredible. It leaps off the page. and he is good for Sean. Helps him open up and accept love. When he gets to understand his situation he is more protective and patient. I love how Sean is when Hayden brings him to the shelter because of what he has gone through he is able to give those kids hope and perspective. He understands them more and they listen and accept what he is saying because of that. he makes the idea of surviving more real for them.

As love is brought into Sean’s world he begins to see himself as more and hope. Hayden is so instrumental in this. Their story will warm your heart and have you root for them to make it.

this is a tender and sweet love story of a man starved for acceptance and love and finding it but at first wary. once he sees that there are no strings and he is loved for himself he grows and allows love in. We get a great romance with two men who respect one another and are there for each other. A great story on love, family and acceptance.

Claire Boston is no stranger to tackling sensitive subjects in her romances. From women in male-dominated workplaces to refugee situations, Ms Boston explores all aspects of both sides and brings them together with satisfying resolutions. So it came as no surprise that this author would tackle the challenges of LBGQT romance, specifically MM. This was a sweet, touching story of two men finding their place in the world, their families and with each other. I fell in love with the cover and then the story itself. Aptly titled Place to Belong, this was the perfect addition to bring The Flanagan Sisters series to a close.

In Place to Belong, Sean Flanagan has spent his entire life hiding who he really is. He got kicked out of his home for being gay, and now has discovered he has three half-sisters on the other side of the world. Desperate to find a family who loves rather than despises him, he sets out to find his sister, although he’s terrified that they’ll reject him like the rest of his family did.

Sean is stunned by the warm welcome he receives from his sisters. When he meets Hayden Johnson, he risks everything with his newfound family to follow his heart.

I felt so sorry for Sean. He was easy to relate to, and I felt so bad he had to hide his sexuality. Hayden brought out the best in him. Hayden is an amazing character, very patient and loving. The romance is sweet and engaging, and I rooted for both these characters. They were perfect together.

This book is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. I didn’t read the rest of the series and still very much enjoyed this book. A perfect contemporary romance read.

Claire Boston has written a compelling story by giving a newly found Flanagan brother his story. Beautifully written, tissues needed as my emotions were tugged a number of occasions and all rounded up to a satisfying ending. Congratulations Ms Boston on a lovely series and I am looking forward to the next.
