Linda Winstead Jones is the bestselling author of more than eighty romance novels and novellas across several sub-genres. She’s easily distracted (Look! A squirrel!) and writes the stories that speak to her in the moment. Paranormal. Romantic Suspense. Twisted Fairy Tales. Cowboys. Her books are for readers who want to escape from reality for a while, who don’t mind the occasional trip into another world for a laugh, a chill, the occasional heartwarming tear. Where will we go next?
Every Little Thing was dull and kind of depressing with lack luster characters.
John used to be a deputy but he quit when he became the prime suspect in three murders all because the first one was his ex-wife. John hated his ex-wife, she was a cheater plain and simple and even screwed his brother and only wanted money, which John gave her after the divorce. He goes to the carnival where he meets Lucy, who reads palms and is actually a phony. She tells him that she tricked him and later when she meets him for drinks tells him her con.
Both these characters were sad with trust issues. Lucy has been running for the past 5 years, she never sleeps at night as she still has nightmares about her abusive ex-husband and doesn't go home for the same reason. When she is attacked, she is installed in a motel by the police, she sneaks out and is attacked again so John takes her to his place.
John's place is completely run-down, he just doesn't care. Both of them don't trust anyone, Lucy even tries to leave later on. When they get intimate and John confesses his love for her, Lucy is still unable to trust and mistakes him for the man the whole town thinks he is. I also didn't like how at first Lucy is so understanding about Adam's brother, she should have just told people to take a hike and also she doesn't feel bad for what she does, people want to feel good so they go to people like her.
Honestly, the book didn't keep my attention. I never warmed up to the characters and felt John should have left such a stupid town. I did like that Lucy confronted the past.
Wasn't my favorite book I ever read. Just didn't get the characters. A bit sad. Didn't care for the plot. However it was an okay book to read this past summer near the pool.
