Eight of us meet once a year and read a play while enjoying a good meal washed down by a nice claret. I was a bit nervous about this one as it contains a lot of slapstick and many of the jokes are very obvious. In fact no joke is too obvious or corny to be included in the script.
It was a huge success. With funny accents and all the nonsense we had a wonderful evening. It took about two hours to read, which left plenty of chat-time.
This was a blast to perform! Elizabeth was the first villain I'd gotten a chance to play, and it was a ton of fun. Everyone involved with the play enjoyed it, and the audience had a great time too.
I'd highly recommend this as a fun play for any theater troop to perform.
I see this is funny in a cartoonish sort of way. I'm sure it is a pleasure to perform because you can overact as far as you can go and involve the audience like in a panto. Somehow the ending was a disappointment; it's probably a trope that the least used character is always the villain but it made the ending weak. I didn't really care about anyone (perhaps the PC a bit), not sure anyone learnt anything about themselves. Can you bring those ideas into a spoof? I felt rather aloof and condescending towards them all, is that what allows me to laugh at their misfortunes. Altogether rather uneasy about the piece once I dig below the surface but I can see it would make a great show if played in a certain mannered way.
This is a fun spoof of Agatha Christie murder mysteries. It is part of the Inspector Pratt series. It is a farce through and through, with lots of slapstick and jokes. There is nothing serious here, just a bit of fun, complete with fake accents and other shenanigans. Those who like English farces will enjoy it.
Another Agatha Christie spoof in a British manor in the 1930's with lots of accents and a period set. Could possibly be moved to an upper class East Coast neighborhood. Slightly disappointing ending. Maybe?
Not a good play to read, very predictable slapstick. It would have to be acted by a very accomplished cast in front of a well-oiled audience to work for me.
Agatha Christie "spoof" - murder in an English country manor and a completely inept detective on the case. The script is not as funny as I anticipated it would be, but it seems like an okay show to stage.
