Picking up two weeks after the end of book 1, Skewed, Warped sees Verity living in luxury in the home of Tony the Hound, a prisoner under Tony's watchful eye, her fate beyond her father's trial, and, thus, her usefulness to Tony, uncertain. Her sister still hates her and thinks Tony is amazing for taking care of them so well and X is dead.
X wakes up in a hospital bed unaware of who he is, how he got there, who shot him, who stabbed him, really anything. For a man in his line of work, this is a really bad position to be in.
To tell you anything more would give things away.
This book not only picks up where book one ended, it also keeps the same action and tone. It's every bit as good as the first book, no loss of quality. I find myself in the same boat I was in going into this book. Whereas in the first book, I was thinking, "hitman falls for his target instead of killing her," and being surprised that it wasn't the old trope I expected, here I found myself sarcastically thinking, "Oh, amnesia, that's new," and being surprised by it being pretty well done. I got reintroduced to a character I thought I already knew, seeing him from a different, more vulnerable angle.
Verity, too, is full of change, but hers by choice and necessity. Her violent tendencies have to be suppressed, she has to think things through a bit more, she has to plan and bide her time, not things she's used to, but she has to play by Tony's rules until the opportunity arises.
Looking forward to book three.
