Short, sweet, and to the point. Read it in 2 sittings and left me glad and… recentered? Definitely worth the read.

The one caveat is that it’s as reformed and Protestant as you’d expect. Some would benefit from supplementing this with a sample of NT Wright or something a little Eastern Orthodox or something. This book is meat and potatoes for sure, just don’t forget your side salads.

The True Gospel

I've heard the most popular "gospel" which the majority of people seem to accept. I "asked Jesus into my heart" when I was very young (around 7), and ever since then, I'd been as far away from Him as I could get. I was into everything, until He opened my eyes and caused me to break down, not because I feared going to hell, which had caused multiple breakdowns years ago, but because, looking back at my sinful life, I had seen nothing but Grace and Mercy. Every single time I had sinned, He had shown either mercy, or grace, or both, every single time. It upset me because I realized that God HATES sin, and that no matter what good He did for me, I did nothing but mock Him and spit on Him. I realized that I should be DEAD right now, but God is full of mercy and grace, so He not only allowed me to live, but He showered abundant blessings on me, which I should not have received. He truly loves me and does not want to see me perish, and because of all He did for me while I was still a wicked sinner, I am living for Him.

Definitely worth the hour. Not only to understand what you’re handing out if you decide to offer it to others—but it’s equally valuable for encouraging your own heart. In this short book is a wealth of reminders, promises, and even warnings—not only for explaining the gospel, but for continually washing ourselves in it as believers. I read it through mostly to take in the content, but now I want to go back and meditate on many of these truths more deeply. I honestly think I might place this in my “read once a year” category. Sometimes we can get so buried in study that we miss the beauty of the One we are studying.

While no book can serve as a substitute for an in-person sharing of the gospel, I was looking for a short little book that I could give to non-Christians that would simply and succinctly lay out the gospel. While I have read a lot of books on Christianity, I find that many of them are too complex or intimidating for most non-Christians to want to read. I decided to give this book a read, and was very pleased with how it presents gospel truth. I have great respect for Paul Washer, and I think he has given the church an excellent resource. Short enough to be read in one quick sitting, written with simple language, and filled with Scripture, this will be a go-to for me.

A concise, thorough overview of the Gospel of the Scriptures. Washer does an excellent job of talking through each detail of what we as Christians believe. This book is beneficial for those new to the faith, those who still have questions, or those who believe and need guidance on how to preach the whole Gospel. Loved this little book!

Great afternoon read explaining the gospel in-depth, yet succinctly! A booklet short enough to be read in one sitting. I would highly recommend this to give to a non-believer interested in learning more about the faith. Nothing replaces word of mouth personal evangelism, but this could be an effective tool.

This book was a great little book on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a quick, but expansive book on the Gospel and genuine faith. I loved all the Bible verses quoted and how easy of a listen the book was. The self-examinations in the book were good as well.

Short but thorough booklet on the gospel! Covers questions such as "What is the gospel?" and "Who is God?", "Who are we?", "Who is Jesus?", "What is our response?"/"How can we be saved?", "How do we know we are saved?" and "How do Christians live?" I appreciate that the booklet goes through the character of God and our state as sinful humans before jumping into Christ's character, and it doesn't do it in a way where he lists out all of Christ's attributes, but instead reveals those attributes through statements of what Christ has done for us in his life, death, and resurrection. The self-examination questions for "Are you repenting?" and "Are you believing?" sections for both repentance and faith were useful, as were the assurances of salvation stemming from 1 John. I love the 7 points mentioned as the benefits of salvation - reminded me of the sweetness of what God has given us in Him. The characteristics listed in the section "How Then Shall We Live?" regarding fellowship with a biblical church are helpful for those considering what they should look for in a church and for those who are church members to examine how their church is doing in these areas and how one can grow. There are multiple Scripture references quoted in their chunked entirety throughout the book, which I really appreciated. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!

This was a great, nearly comprehensive overview of the gospel. Yay good news. I just have a few minor thoughts.
(1) there was no explicit explanation that Jesus lived a sinless life of earth. He said that Jesus is fully man and fully God, so he probably assumed that the reader would infer that Jesus was without sin, but I think it should be explicitly mentioned that Jesus took the punishment I deserved and He DID NOT deserve it. (2 Corinthians 2:15, 1 Peter 2:22, 1 Peter 1:19,
(2) I didn't love the use of the word shame. I think that if you're gonna talk about feeling genuine sorrow, shame, and remorse over your sin as evidence that you are a repentant believer, you should explain the difference between shame and conviction. Namely, that shame is not from God as it causes you to want to hide from Him. Conviction is the Holy Spirit revealing our sin to us and leading us BACK to God in repentance. (Psalm 51, Hebrews 4:12, Acts 17:30) Xoxo someone fighting shame
(3) this is related to #1 and maybe this is just personal preference but I feel like there should have been at least a paragraph on the great exchange because how insane is it that Jesus took on my sin and GAVE ME His righteousness (2 Corinthians 2:15 again)
This is the shortest book I've ever read and the longest review I've ever written.
Thank you and goodnight
