So I had to go undercover.
Fact: I'm in love with my roommate.
Fact: She's going to hate me if I come clean now.
Fact: I'm not giving up. Which means I'll just have to continue to run defense until I figure out a way to get Maggie to see the real me.

Having never read a R.C. Boldt book before, I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this. All I knew is after reading that blurb I couldn't not read it. The blurb sounded too delightful for me to pass this one and I’m glad I gave it a try since this l totally enjoyed it. 'Clam Jam' was most of all very entertaining. The author balanced perfectly the humor and sexiness, delivering a lovely read that sucked me in from the very beginning. If you are fallowing my reviews, you already know how much I love my romantic comedies. I simply adore them and this one was for sure a good one.

Maggie Finnegan is devastated when she catches her fiancée cheating on her. She decides to stay away from men and dating for a while and focus on her career. Now that her ex moved out she needs a new roommate, but she needs the “perfect” roommate – so no women and of course, no straight men.
Ry needs a place to live. He had been renting a room with a guy, who sadly for him gotten married. Since he’s not entirely sure his job will keep him local, Ry is not interested in buying an apartment. Needless to say, he’s looking to rent one as soon as possible.
Ry knows, or more exactly feels from the moment he lays eyes on Maggie that she’s the one. He knows is strange to feel this way, but feels with all his heart Maggie is the perfect woman for him, so of course he wants to be her roommate more than anything. Figuring out immediately Maggie was badly hurt, he comes out with a 'brilliant' idea – to go undercover, to be the 'perfect' gay roommate ever existed, to get to know Maggie and obviously convince her that he’s ‘the one’ for her.
“I want to be with someone who is not only the love of my life, but my best friend too.”
Maggie is perfectly aware of the fact Ry plays for the other team, but she can’t help the attraction she feels towards him. Not only her new roommate is gorgeous, but he’s a good friend as well. When Maggie finally decides she’s ready to date again, Ry starts clam jamming her, infuriating the poor woman to no end.
“Wait. Did you catch that sound? It’s the sound of me banging my head against the wall. In frustration. Because everything seems to turn into Ry this and Ry that.”
The dynamic between the two roommates change when they share a passionate kiss, Maggie slowly starting to have more-than-friends kind of feelings for Ry.
'Clam Jam' was delightful, well written story that really entertained me for a couple of hours. The pace was perfect for this kind of story and like I previously mentioned I enjoyed how the author blended the sexy elements with the humorous ones. As for the romantic ones…aww…so heartwarming and well done. What I really liked about this one was how fresh it was…from the premise to the characters, everything was refreshing and original.
The characters in this story were fantastically portrayed. And I’m not talking only about the main ones, because let me tell you, the supporting characters were as awesome as the protagonists. Therefore, I wouldn’t mind to read their own stories/story.
"I'm sorry, but did my panties just go poof? Up in smoke? Because the look in his eyes made my hoo-ha feel like it was on fire."
I adored Maggie and Ry. Both of them were so endearing and relatable which I simply loved. They are that kind of characters you cannot help but like from the first moment, so engrossing and charming. Maggie was a heroine with a wonderful personality. I loved it! She was fun, sweet and her monologues and her attempts to somehow stop the attraction she feels for her “gay” roommate made me smile, grin and laugh numerous times. As much as I adored Maggie, the one who charmed the pants off me and melt my heart was Ry. Ry was the sweetest guy ever! Besides the fact that he was sexy as hell, he was a sweet, caring and thoughtful with our heroine. The way he treated Maggie and his tenderness were really heartwarming and I have to say I loved his clam jamming. Totally cute and entertaining! I also appreciated the fact that he wasn’t interested in other women. He knew what he wanted and he was willing to do anything to get it.
“I kiss the hell out of her right there in that bar…and I can’t help but think …
Who knew this much happiness could come from a little clam jamming?”
The slow burn relationship was well done and the connection between these two main characters palpable from the beginning. The author did a great job regarding their chemistry and I loved the sexy scenes between them...so sexy and passionate.
What I would have wanted to be a little different was the story line. As much as I enjoyed the concept of this story, I have to say the story line was a little bit repetitive for my liking. Also, the fact that Maggie didn’t figure out Ry is not really gay was unbelievable to say the last. But…whatever, it’s fiction, so I didn’t care too much about this aspect.
All in all, 'Clam Jam' was a fantastic read filled with plenty of sexy times, funny moments that will entertain you and made you smile and a bunch of characters you will relate with and adore from the start.

I have to confess I am not a fan of full on romantic chick flick books, but when comedy plays a big role in stories with romantic themes, I actually quite enjoy them. Clam Jam sucked me in from the first page. The author weaves a story that’s a masterful balance of laugh-out-loud funny and curl-your-toes-sexy.
The heroine, Maggie tries so hard not to fall for her handsome, 'gay' roommate, but she just can’t help herself. And who can blame her? Ry is completely swoon-worthy. He is strong-willed and smokin’ hot - but most of all, he has a good heart.
I instantly connected with the characters, and I'm not ashamed to admit I miss them already now that I've finished the book. The emotional pushing and pulling they both did in the building of their relationship was utterly authentic and so enthralling to read. The sexual tension and chemistry between Ry and Maggie sizzled off the pages, and built and built until it exploded.
I absolutely freaking adored every single supporting character. I felt like I knew each and every one of them personally, and I connected with them in such a way that made them all seem so real to me.
This story will draw you in, wrap you up like a warm comfortable blanket and have you longing for more long after the last page is turned. The romance simply filled me to bursting and the sex between the h and the H nearly made me combust! I have a list of one-liners that had me in tears! That’s why I gave this book five stars. It is a hit and it rocks!

CLAM JAM: I tend to normally steer clear of the romantic comedy genre but the synopsis had me so intrigued that I couldn't help but sign up for this one. This will also be my first read by this author.

Who knew this is an actual term!! And OMG I googled this shit and it’s a real to life true term!! LOL!!
Catching her fiancé in the act has Maggie swearing off men for a while. One problem with that though is the flat she kicked his ass out of costs more than an arm and a leg.
So the hunt begins for the perfect male flatmate..BUT The sex on legs that she's lusting over that did applied turns out to be gay, or is he?
I cray cray loved this, I giggled so many times, this author has won me over with this genre, from the first page read until the last page closed I was hooked, I laughed, I swooned, the housework was put on hold, everything ceased to exist whilst my nose was buried in this book. Definitely not the last I will be reading of this authors, I also loved the secondary characters that showed an appearance, hope we read more about them.
It’s a good thing he’s gay. Otherwise, lets be real. I’d likely end up being that flatmate who accidentally on purpose ‘sleepwalks’ into his bed.
Although she’s under the assumption he’s gay she can’t help but wish that he batted for the other team, meaning her.
She’s falling hard for her gay roommate and there’s nothing she can do about it, until she declares she’s ready to date all bets are ff, Ryland put his Clam Jam into motion.
The guy I’d wanted to ask for my number tonight, the guy I’d thought was into me, just chose my roommate instead. I’ve just been clam jammed. Again.
God I loved Ryland’s character, not only was he (air quotes) presumable gay (he’s so not gay) he’s hotter than any male has a right to be, but above all of that he’s got such a soft, tender side to him, the lengths he went to to just be near Maggie had my heart melting.
He had me held in the palm of his hand as soon as he said he was gay, the antics he pulled jumping through hoops to make certain Maggie never dated, trying to act gay when he’s not gay classic. And then lets talk about Maggie god that poor fucking girl, her mind was on a fruity loop of I’m crushing on my gay roommate’ and was just getting harder and harder to contain her attraction. But when that attraction is reciprocated all levels of hotness is let loose.

I had has this book on my radar for awhile, and was really looking forward to it.
Loved the idea, loved the title, loved the description etc.
Yet, when I was reading it, just something about it rubbed me the wrong way.
I found it really hard to not think the hero was a terrible terrible person. He supposedly falls in insta love, so decided to LIE to the heroine about being gay, gets his friend to take part in the lie, then her supposed best friend clicks on at some point and proceeds to carry the lie on.
For a girl, who had had an ex cheat on her, so her self esteem was pretty low, eventually feels ready for dating, then her room mate/best friend spends months "stealing" away her dates, or lying about her being crazy etc, it is pretty cruel. If this fella was meant to be a friend of mine, I would have lost my temper with him months before, not carried on thinking he was one of my best friends, because even without her knowing he was gay, he comes across as a pretty selfish friend.
The heroine, how does she not realise this guy is not gay, even when they start sleeping together....?? Then when she finds out (not by the hero btw) he is all, I tried to tell you so many times but you always cut me off....
Riiiiiigggggghhhhhhtttt
Anyway, she is then all cross at him as he lied to her about being gay, although not sure why him sticking his penis into her happy place did not let on.............
So anyway, this book should have been about half the size, and in half the time. It was repetitive, lots of unfunny clam jamming, lots of the heroine thinking "oh I think I am falling for my gay roommate waaaaahhh" lots of the hero with "oh I love her so much I wish she would love me back the same way waaahhh"
So, 2 stars, as it was ok, I finished it. Just did not really like the hero or the heroine, however, I would give the author another try in the future. Just THIS story was not for me.

I love when a Romantic Comedy book reads like a Romantic Comedy movie and CLAM JAM definitely did. The plot was refreshing, the characters were enjoyable, and there was plenty of steam, geekiness and cheese to make for a good time had by all.
Maggie was absolutely adorable, but it was Ryland who stole the show. He was the one I adored the most. He was a sympathetic character (not to say Maggie wasn't because she was) and while his subterfuge was pretty idiotic, it made for some pretty hilarious times. He unfortunately loved a woman who thought she wasn't ready for love again. There was an obvious instant attraction, but for the most part, Maggie convinced herself to give up on ever having something more with her new "gay" best friend. Who doesn't seem all that gay after all. And why on Earth did Ryland have to be so ridiculously hot???
LOL this book was a hoot and I recommend it to anyone looking for a light, fun read.

But how long can you continue the act? For that many months?
Oh, no! That is just frustrating.
If you wanted to be somehow close to her while she is out of the dating scene, why don't you come clean when she is ready to start dating? Why do you keep clam jamming her, instead? And it is not for a week or two, it is for months, for God's sake!

I don't review books very often but this is one of the funniest books I've read in a while. Maggie and Ry's dynamic was amazing and I loved both of them as individuals as well, which is saying something since it's really hard to find books like that these days. I may read more from R.C. Boldt in the future because this was an amazing read.

Maggie Finegan just caught her fiancé with another woman. Now she needs a new roommate, and a non-heterosexual man who is no temptation is just what she’s looking for. Good thing good-looking Ryland James tells her he’s gay. He’s the perfect roommate and becomes a trusted friend.
Except he’s not gay. So can he be trusted?
Told via Maggie and Ry’s alternating first person point of view, the premise—with Ry and his buddy, Jack, pretending to be a gay couple in an open relationship—is incredibly funny. I had quite a few laugh out loud moments in the opening chapters. I enjoyed the upbeat, light-hearted feel as the premise went into full swing.

And not just with Ry who kept living a charade when it was clear that Maggie was ready to find love again, nor Maggie who should have clued in sooner, but also with their friends and family who should have stepped in and put an end to the shenanigans when it was clear that it was no longer in their best interests.
So often books in the romance genre suffer from too much insta love and not enough relationship development, but this is one rare book where their relationship wasn’t just fully cooked, it was overdone. And then when they finally started reaching for the dessert (which was definitely hot), they still kept the main course in the oven! There’s slow burn in romance and then there’s strung out, and this one is certainly the later.
Back to the pros though, other than his excessive delays coming out of the closet that he never really went into in the first place, Ry was a good guy. He’s smart, successful, caring, and he’s not a player or a manwhore. He’d have been a great book boyfriend if he’d have just quit leading Maggie astray.
None the less, if a sexy romcom or friends to lovers story is what you’re looking for, this is still one to consider. Just go into it with a lot of patience. I think, perhaps, my expectations were too high.

Told via Maggie and Ry’s alternating first person point of view, the premise—with Ry and his buddy, Jack, pretending to be a gay couple in an open relationship—is incredibly funny. I had quite a few laugh out loud moments in the opening chapters. I enjoyed the upbeat, light-hearted feel as the premise went into full swing.

You know those romantic comedies that are so funny that the humor can sometimes take away from the romance? This is NOT one of them. GAH!!! I could cry out in glee- I loved this book so much! It’s filled with heart, humor, and fun! I literally sat down on my deck next to my pool and read it from beginning to end in one sitting. That my friends, is how much I adored it. I simply couldn’t get enough and I feel like I need more of RC Boldt! Now I am going to have to go ahead and grab Blue Balls because it is the secondary characters story (I freakin LOVED them too and am so glad their book is out now). If you’re looking for a fresh and original read that is going to have you laughing just as much as you are going to swoon then this is the book for you! I fell in ABSOLUTE love with this story.

You know, a movie fade-out where one of the main characters- usually in a romantic movie- sees the object of their affection and the rest of the world fades away. The other person comes into sharp focus and all the music -there’s usually music in the background, by the way- fades or becomes extremely faint, and the two of them have a moment. And you’re like Awww, so sweet! That’s happening to me right now. The only problem is that I’m having that particular kind of moment with my roommate. My gay roommate.”
See what I did there? I just gave you a glimpse that will open your eyes into the entire story! It’s extremely sweet, but hilarious at the same time. And the problem that surrounds the plot? She has feelings for her roommate. Who happens to be…. Gay? In reality, he isn’t gay though. He has a moment of clarity when he saw her going into Starbucks and just KNEW that she was his happily ever after. But in order to gain his way into her heart – her heart which had been shattered when she found her fiancé in bed with a tramp- he had to pretend to be someone he is not. And that is a gay man. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have let him move in with her...
So what happens with these little white lies? Well, you’ll have to read to find out. But the heart and soul put into this romantic comedy is DREAMY. I FELT everything that Ry was feeling. He is a man that I would be proud to call my own. And Maggie? She is a sassy and fun character that could easily become my own best friend. These characters touched my heart, made me smile from ear to ear, and gave me a pleasurable reading experience through and through. The comedy? It’s up to part with Tara Sivec’s Chocolate Lovers Series and the Virgin Romance Novelist series by Meghan Quinn (my favorite romantic comedies EVER).

You guys, this book is a must read. I highly recommend it to all fans of romantic comedies and to those who just want to escape for an afternoon of pure delight! I loved this book. It is a new favorite. And I can’t wait to read more by the author!!!

From the reviews - I believe I'm in the minority. I was genuinely disappointed. Mostly, GR reviews loved it, and found it humorous, if not slightly long-winded.
My expectations: High. Great romcom novel, funny MCs.
Reality: Average. Not at all did it make me laugh, or chuckle - not once.
I will review this through by page numbers, on iBooks /882, so you can empathise with how I was left reeling.
p.148 - her manban has ended and she's ready to date. He's ready to watch her date.
p.224 - The gay act had officially become pitiful and I was already bored. Mainly due to lack of humour, and time lapses.
p.505 - Over a year has passed. It was just shameful. Pathetic even. Claim the girl already! I was prepared for three to six-ish months of the act. They live together. It just left me irritated, and I think the light-heartened banter wasn't coming put. They've reached second base and he's still playing gay? Right.
(1. Okay, she might be worried he is bi-sexual. Fair enough. 2. If he doesn't admit it now, when? When she's dead. Married to another man? She's already kissed another guy. 3. Why is his best friend is still pretending to be his partner? A year! Why isn't he telling him to man up or ask him where is balls are? 4. Where are both of their balls? BALLS I SAY.)
p.512 I was weary, tired even. Ryland has excessively pretended on nights out he's gay and hits on guys interested in Maggie to chase them away. Frequently. Same people go to the same bars. So, his sexuality? A straight guy is giving himself a reputation for being gay... In addition, some of the people she goes out with for drink dates are from her workplace. He chases them away with lies so he's giving her a reputation of wanting a threesome in her workplace. I couldn't believe it didn't become a rumour.
p.571 - Ryland claims Jack (his "gay lover/partner" aka best friend) is out of town a lot. And he and Mags should make an "arrangement" to fuck.
p.607 He hits home. Still playing gay, but whatever right?

Holy shadoobie. I’ve been sleeping with Ry that long already? How is that even possible?”
At some other random point in the novel - He is upset when she calls them "friends". What is she supposed to think? If that wasn't a clue to admit you're straight, I don't know what is. I think he was waiting for a miracle.
P.794 it finally happened. But he didn't admit it. She found out. *yawns* It just made it even more sad.
I liked the epilogue, so extra star for that. Otherwise... not for me.
You may probably be able to tell why I didn't like this book. Stupidity. Sillyness. Stupidity. Both MCs were lame. I like my H's abit more alpha. A year to admit a lie, to a girl who is so obviously in love with you. I like MCs that have some common sense - which apparently isn't so common anymore.
He's not even a creeper, but he creeps on her. I mean he watched her for ages, before he met her and claims she's the "one". Why is she the one? He's creepy without being creepy enough. Be one or the other.

What a fun journey with Mags & Ry .. i laughed and smiled so much i'm sure my mouth will stay grinning for days ..
What I didn't like about it is how creepy Ry's clam jamming sometimes tend to be .. really at some point i thought he might turn with a knife and say : mwahahaha I'm your stalker slash roommate who will kill you RN
Anyway .. they were cute , the napkin thingi was so romantic I highlighted all their short letters .. just in case i found my Ry one day ;)

Spoilers ahead!
Choo choo trainwreck.
When I started this book it was a strong contender to get 5 stars and a spot on my "favourites" shelf:
Maggie just broke up with her fiance after catching him with another woman. She needs a roommate to be able to afford her rent but she's never been able to live with other women, so she needs a guy. But a straight guy would lead to complications and she's not ready for that just yet. No, she needs a gay guy. Since she can't exactly put an ad out for that, she decides to just see all her applicants and make a decision based on them.
Enter Ryland - he's seen Maggie around with her boyfriend and he's madly in love with her, so when he finds himself in need of a room to rent and Maggie just happens to have one, he's all in. She's not so sure though (he's hot and she really can't get into another relationship right now), but when she tries to explain that he blurts out "I'm gay". And so Ry moves in.
I laughed a lot during these scenes, especially since Ry had to ask his best friend Jack to pretend to be his boyfriend and Jack kept on calling him "pookie bear".
And then it all went downhill for a number of reasons
#1 - Ry was a fucking creep
First of all, I despise insta-love so I would have preferred if Ry pretended to be gay because he desperately needed somewhere to live (with Maggie being his last option), instead of the "she's The One even though we've never even said hello" bullshit.
Anyway, because he was in love with her (but obviously unable to tell her), he tried to stop her from dating other guys by scaring them off. This was funny the first couple of times but then it got tedious, repetitive AND mean:
He had two methods - he would either go up to the two of them and openly "steal" the guy away from her or he would keep an eye on Maggie at the bar, wait until she went to the restroom, then go up to the guy she was talking to to tell him something horrible (and fake) about Maggie. This ranged from "she's looking for a third person for us to share in bed" to "she's mentally unstable" . I was surprised he didn't sink as low as to say she had STDs or that she liked poking holes in condoms. The guy would then run away, leaving Maggie to come back to an empty chair.
Ry never once thought how the rumours he was spreading could affect Maggie. I mean, they always went to the same bars (where her coworkers also hung out) and those people were bound to hear about her being a "freak". He also never thought about how it might make her feel - every single guy she talked to literally ditched her as soon as possible. The author never dealt with her self-confidence getting knocked.
I’d seen the guy through the Plexiglas racquetball court, chatting with Maggie. It worked out perfectly that Jack and I finished our game in time to catch the guy on his way back over to Maggie. I appeared concerned, utterly serious, as I informed him that she was my roommate, but that I wanted to give him a heads-up that she was in therapy and working through some issues. And that the last guy she dated had to relocate. I may have also implied that Maggie veered off into the bunny boiling, "If I can’t have you, no one will" kind of personality.
The Max dude was harder to sway my way, though. Shit, he nearly made me feel bad about what I was doing. Almost. Until, after exhausting all of my usual ploys and failing, I finally offered him fifty bucks to leave and never contact her again. The fact that he accepted money to leave a beautiful woman alone says he’s a king of douches.
The fact that you GAVE him money to leave Maggie alone says you're THE king of douches.
Also, this happened with like 20 guys during the book and FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR she never made the connection between Ry appearing and they other guy immediately leaving in a frantic hurry. This leads to annoyance #2.
#2 - Maggie was so freaking dense
She quickly became best friends with Ry and they spent most of their time together. He was always really affectionate towards her - hugs, kisses, I love yous... etc. She never actually sees him act the same with his "boyfriend", nor do they talk about Ry's relationship with him. I would have accepted this but it goes on FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR! And not once does Maggie question whether he's actually gay.
After a year, they both give in to their attraction and sleep together many many MANY times, but to Maggie he's still fully gay.
GURRRRRL!
#3 - The repetition
We kept going around in circles:
1 - Maggie lusting after Ry and whining about him being gay
2 - Ry waxing poetic about anything Maggie related
3 - Maggie going to the bar to meet guys
4 - Ry scaring them away and rambling on about how amazing she is
5 - Maggie lusting after Ry and whining about him being gay
R E P E A T
#4 - Ry going on and on and on about how "speshul" Maggie was
Let's look at a random scenario! Your friend shows you a pen and he tells you it's a great pen. You agree like, sure, it's a nice pen. They then go on to describe how it glides effortlessly over paper, the shape of it is just right for your hands, the ink never gives out - it's perfect. You laugh because they're fangirling over a pen. But then they keep bringing it up in every conversation you have. Pen this, pen that, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and every other pen just pales in comparison. You've had enough, you tried the pen and yeah it's great but not THAT great - it's just a fucking pen! Why can't he just shut the fuck up about it already, you got it the first time. You now conclude that the pen is the bane of your existence and you break out in hives every time you think about it. But your friend still keeps on bringing it up, and the more he does it, the more you hate the pen.
Essentially that's what happened with Maggie. Ry's chapters were dedicated to describing how amazing, beautiful, sexy, kind, PERFECT she was, or how her explosive diarrhea should have been bottled and used as perfume all over the world. But Maggie didn't measure up to that level of awesomeness so by the end I hated her Mary-Sue crap with a fiery passion.
#5 - The ending
Maggie finds out (in a laughably lame way) that Ry isn't gay and he's been in love with her the whole time. She gets angry..... because he LIED. Not because he lied to be close to her so he could then manipulate and control her love life, she gets pissed because he withheld telling her he's not actually gay.
FOR FUCK'S SAKE, YOU'VE SLEPT TOGETHER! THIS ISN'T A SURPRISE!
Things that would have made this book better (for me):
~If it was 100 pages shorter
~It shouldn't have spanned a year (3-6 months would have been better) so Maggie's oblivion wouldn't be so ridiculous
~Get rid of insta-love
~Ry should have scared those guys off by saying stuff like "have you seen her bodybuilder ex who desperately wants her back?" or "she's in witness protection and this is the 5th city she had to move to because the mafia keeps finding her" instead of "she's not right in the head".
Oh man.....

Let's look at a random scenario! Your friend shows you a pen and he tells you it's a great pen. You agree like, sure, it's a nice pen. They then go on to describe how it glides effortlessly over paper, the shape of it is just right for your hands, the ink never gives out - it's perfect. You laugh because they're fangirling over a pen. But then they keep bringing it up in every conversation you have. Pen this, pen that, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and every other pen just pales in comparison. You've had enough, you tried the pen and yeah it's great but not THAT great - it's just a fucking pen! Why can't he just shut the fuck up about it already, you got it the first time. You now conclude that the pen is the bane of your existence and you break out in hives every time you think about it. But your friend still keeps on bringing it up, and the more he does it, the more you hate the pen.
Essentially that's what happened with Maggie. Ry's chapters were dedicated to describing how amazing, beautiful, sexy, kind, PERFECT she was, or how her explosive diarrhea should have been bottled and used as perfume all over the world. But Maggie didn't measure up to that level of awesomeness so by the end I hated her Mary-Sue crap with a fiery passion.
#5 - The ending
Maggie finds out (in a laughably lame way) that Ry isn't gay and he's been in love with her the whole time. She gets angry..... because he LIED. Not because he lied to be close to her so he could then manipulate and control her love life, she gets pissed because he withheld telling her he's not actually gay.
FOR FUCK'S SAKE, YOU'VE SLEPT TOGETHER! THIS ISN'T A SURPRISE!
Things that would have made this book better (for me):
~If it was 100 pages shorter
~It shouldn't have spanned a year (3-6 months would have been better) so Maggie's oblivion wouldn't be so ridiculous
~Get rid of insta-love
~Ry should have scared those guys off by saying stuff like "have you seen her bodybuilder ex who desperately wants her back?" or "she's in witness protection and this is the 5th city she had to move to because the mafia keeps finding her" instead of "she's not right in the head".

To be quite honest, I was totally sold on this book just on the synopsis alone. I completely envisioned a romantic comedy that had me laughing and swooning the entire time. I have to say, I was really surprised that I ended up liking this one as much as I did.
Maggie has just been dealt a low blow…she catches her fiancée with another woman. In her bed. Double yikes!! So now to help pay the rent, she is in desperate need of a roommate. After interviewing Ry she decides he’s going to be the perfect roommate and he’s gay and in a relationship to boot…so no temptation there-even though he's pretty hot.
The thing is that Ry is actually not gay and has been secretly wanting her for a while. His partner? Yep, that’s his best friend Jack. As their friendship progresses, Maggie finds herself falling a bit for her gay roomie which is wrong, right? Maybe he’s just bi-sexual?

This story packs a lot of laughs while Ry and Maggie go out and become pretty close. When Maggie announces that she is ready to start dating again Ry finds himself “clam jamming” as he knows that Maggie is it for him. The interactions he has with Maggie's suitors are pretty funny. How will he break the news to her that he’s actually not gay and in love with her? How will she take it?

What's it about? In order to share an apartment with a broken-hearted girl who wants nothing to do with men, Ryland pretends to be gay. Its the perfect solution. Except for the small fact that he is also completely and hopelessly in love with her.
The best bits: This is hilarious. The narrative glides effortlessly across the pages and you feel like you're having a coffee with an old friend. It's thoroughly entertaining and sprinkled with the kind of self-depricating humor that I love.
The worst bits: Ryland is a totally sweet, totally besotted, totally dreamy beta male (who often talked like a girl). And I'm all for the rebellious, strong alpha. It's a personal prefernce of mine.
Also, I wasn't quite sure why he loved Maggie so much and why she was constantly inundated with dates (sometimes four a week!). Even though I thoroughly enjoyed the writing, I needed more time to become emotionally invested in this couple.
Recommended for: This is a fun, easy, weekend read for lovers of beta males and best-friend-to-lovers tales.

I want a guy who will love me even when I have no makeup on and still tell me and believe that I’m beautiful.
This was a funny read, that had me often laughing out loud.
When Maggie Finnegan walks in on her finance having sex in their bed with a co-worker she throws him out of her apartment resulting into having to find a new roommate.
Ryland James, pretending to be gay and in a relationship with best friend, Jack. Ryland desperately wants to become Maggie’s roommate. He spotted Maggie in the Starbucks and something about her captivated me. The moment I saw Maggie, watched her talk animatedly and felt the warmth of her smile—even though I wasn’t on the receiving end of the it—each time I saw her in the coffee shop, I felt it. That connection. I couldn’t ignore the feeling—like something deep inside me was yelling, “She’s the one! You’re going to marry this one!”
When Ry and Maggie cross the line from best friends to lovers things heat up in the bedroom. his bare chest brushing against my breasts, his hard length prodding between my legs as I bring my knees up, my feet flat on the bed. His lips form a smile that’s tender with a hint of playfulness, and when he dips his head to brush his lips against mine, the kiss sweet and soft, I can’t resist sliding my tongue inside his mouth to deepen the kiss. The instant I do, his groan encourages me, and I tilt my head, sliding my tongue against his while my hands tug his ass toward me. The tip of his cock slides in only an infinitesimal amount, but it’s enough to have us both gasping.
Theirs is a sweet, funny and oh so, sexy story with lovable side characters. Sarah, Maggie’s best friend and Jack, Ryland’s college best friend. Jack is funny and an amazing friend to Ryland, playing along as his boyfriend. “So how long have we been together, love muffin?”
I loved reading this book but at some point I thought it dragged on too much. Really how much more clam jamming could he do after the fifth date! IMO the book was about 100 pages too long!
I want a guy who will be a goofball with me. One who will dance in the rain and kiss me.

When I saw the blurb I knew I had to read this book. I hadn’t read a book from R.C. Boldt before, but now I’m ready for more book by this author.
Maggie and Ry’s story was so fun and cute. Their friendship may have been built on a lie but it was still great. The trouble Ry has to go through to keep his feelings a secret was a bit crazy but very entertaining. This book made me laugh a lot. I really enjoyed this book, though I just wish that things would have come together for them quicker. But despite that, it still had me flipping the pages continuously because I couldn’t get enough of this story. If you need a good laugh along with a cute romance, pick this book up! -Leah, 4.5 Stars

I was excited when I first read the blurb; Clam Jam looked like a hysterical book.
The first half of the book started off great.
Maggie finds her fiancé cheating on her, and how she handles it was one of the best responses. After she kicks him out, She is searching for a roommate, Enters Riley. Riley and has his eyes on her. Maggie tells him how she doesn't want a male roommate since what just happened with her ex-fiance. Riley wants to see anytime he can play with her and lies in the spot he is gay. She invites him to move in. From there, the book starts to drag. I almost didn't finish. The reason I kept pushing forward was there were some funny parts in the book.
About sixty percent into the book is when the book started to pick back up again. Maggie, besides its time to start dating. Riley shows up to all her dates, and it's is funny from there till the end.
Clam Jam had so much potential but dragged in the middle. I gave three stars instead of two because there were some parts of the book that were well written and funny.

I wish I could give this more than 5 stars. It made me ugly cry so much. I ugly cried at sad parts and I ugly cried at happy parts. It left me feeling that strange mix of happy and sad that you get from a really good book that steals your heart - or from watching Bridget Jones' Diary (which this book has shades of).
The book is written with such a real humour it is something else. Even though Ryland is 'only' a character in a book I am definitely a bit in love with him. He is one of the most caring, gorgeous, witty and wonderful book boyfriends I have had the pleasure of knowing. I would hate Maggie, the heroine, for having him to herself except I can't because she is such a real, natural and lovely person too.
This is a unique book in so many ways, from the plot, to the characters, the witty humour and the emotion. I have read quite a few good books lately, that I have been happy to award 5 stars to. This makes me want to go back and change them all to 4 as this is one of the best written books I have read in a while. There isn't a single thing I would critisize. The love scenes, and I use that word because they were written with such a depth of feeling, didn't rely on crudeness or poor language. The tension was well maintained throughout, and the pace was good. When the story 'jumped' the time gap was made very clear and there wasn't even the tiniest hint of instalove - the story take place over a year.
I simply don't have the words to tell you how amazing this book is - but RC Boldt would because she is an amazing word smith.

Not gonna spoil the fun but suffice it to say Ry might be watching Saturday night replays of The Breakfast Club all by his lonesome for a while!!
OMFG!! I floooooved every single moment of this delightful, absurdly funny, sigh-worthy romance!!!! Ry is such a dreamy BBF! Dashingly handsome, sweet, chivalrous, in prime physical condition (drool-worthy washboard abs....need I say more?) and sooooooo gentlemanly! Gah! Every time he tenderly presses a tender kiss to Mags' forehead, pulls her in for an affectionate cuddle or gazes adoringly down at her I melted!!
But Ry is far from the picture-perfect stereotype and it endears him to me even more. He is living a "double" life, has daddy issues and is fiercely possessive of his girl, which of course gave me warm tingles!!! And Mags is the type of heroine you so want for your girlfriend!! She is bubbly and kindhearted and fun-loving and just plain darling!! The manner in which RC Boldt depicted the heroine's guilt and confusion over developing these "more-than-friends" feelings for her hunky homosexual roomie was spot on!

Sighhhh! You really felt for this couple! Ry and Mags were pure magic together and perfect for one another in every single way!!! Beholding our darling duo embrace one another's inner dorks and fall hopelessly in love was so sweet and charming it just made my insides all gooey!!! And there was delicious sexual and romantic tension throughout. Between Ry trying to cover his tracks while secretly pining for his Mags and his poor oblivious roomie lamenting the fact that he was the perfect boyfriend material, if only he did not already have a boy toy of his own, was a train wreck waiting to happen! And her fruitless attempts to tamp down her taboo desire and put the kibosh on her "porno-licious" thoughts were a RIOT!!
And speaking of boy toys...... I love macho “Uncle Jack” to pieces.... Ry's best friend aka Pookie Bear aka Love Muffin stole each scene he was in and charmed the pants off of moi! I sure hope he gets a book of his own!!
RC Boldt's breezy narrative SPARKLES with wit, charm and humor, smolders with irresistible sexual tension and radiates warmth and joy! I LOVE her irreverent, anecdotal style of writing and found her interactive approach of confiding in the reader incredibly engaging!!!!!!! There is just so much AWESOMENESS in this book it's an embarrassment of riches!!! Here are a few of my fave highlights...The uproariously funny Clam Jamming where a love-smitten Ry scares all her dates off and/or woos them for himself! Lovey dovey cuddling on the couch and quoting lines during their weekly 80s movie night!! The Napkin Wishes over cocktails. And all those steamy "Cop a feelski" make-out sessions that eventually led to full throttle PANTY-MELTING sex!!!
I think the author provides a nice balance between swoony romance, humor and genuine, heartfelt emotion and while there is a ton of funny in this book it never veers into farcical slapstick humor. There is something deeper here which makes this book stand out and I crave substance not just lightweight fluff in my romcoms.
Bottom line?
Do yourself a favor and grab yourself a steaming cup of hot cocoa (or a hot toddy if you prefer something with more of a kick), plant your derrière by the fire and prepare to giggle and gush and be Clam Jammed...to your hearts delight!!

REVIEW: 4.5 HILARIOUS STARS
"I'm sorry, but did my panties just go poof? Up in smoke? Because the look in his eyes made my hoo-ha feel like it was on fire."
I saw the synopsis for this book and immediately knew I wanted to read it. I mean, c'mon seriously....how can you read that and NOT laugh and wonder how it will work out?? From the get-go, this book had me giggling because of Maggie's humor, but also Ry's quick wit and comebacks. OMG...so freaking funny!! I'm a slow reader by nature since I like to absorb the book, per se, but I read this all in one day. I started early in the morning and ended late that night, but I couldn't put it down! This was an "ignoring life for the win" kinda book!
With a title like Clam Jam, I seriously had to wonder how crude this book was going to be. I didn't want some shock-jock style book. I wanted funny. I wanted well timed comedy, with some love and a little drama. Well, I totally got funny, and then some. This book read like a romantic comedy/chick flick mix and it was honestly the easiest read I've had all year. Ok, so it was my first read I have had this year, but I can promise you that I am glad I started my year off with this little ditty!! The humor was SO good. I'm still giggling while looking over my highlights and rereading some of the parts. There is so much to quote, but then I would give away too much. I seriously can't wait to gift out a copy of this one!!
Maggie's inner dialogue was hilarious. It was comical and entertaining, to say the least, and most definitely one that you could read over and over and not tire of it. I seriously mean it when I say I laughed good and hard while reading this book!!! She is so freaking funny!! Ry's devotion to Maggie was the perfect example of the right man doing anything possible for the one he loves. He makes me smile with everything he selflessly did for her....ok, and to her, but most definitely for her. This was unconditional love at it's finest. RC did a really good job making these two characters different and perfect for each other. I could see the caring side of Ry while dealing with the sarcastic side of Maggie. Total match made in heaven.
For the record, their sexy time was HOT. Very very hot....like, imagination running wild, lip-biting kinda HOT.
While sooome things may have been a little forced or awkward, the storyline between these two was spot on. The humor was smooth and it wasn't cliche at all. I liked that I didn't see anything coming from the humor aspect of it. Like, I honestly laughed about every page or every other page...it truly was that funny. Were some of the actions and reactions to the storyline and plot predictable? Yes, to a certain degree it was....but in an 80's flick kinda way. You knew what was going to happen, but the buildup and the play-out was the best part of this book. The discovery of HOW it was going to work out was the best part. We learned right along with Maggie, and the drama that ensued was definitely smile-worthy. It was really really good. I look forward to reading more from RC Boldt, and based on her author bio, the sarcasm is strong with that one. I will most definitely be following her. RC is a new-to-me author and I wanted to make this year a year to try out new authors. I am so glad I took the plunge on this one.

I saw the synopsis for this book and immediately knew I wanted to read it. I mean, c'mon seriously....how can you read that and NOT laugh and wonder how it will work out?? From the get-go, this book had me giggling because of Maggie's humor, but also Ry's quick wit and comebacks. OMG...so freaking funny!! I'm a slow reader by nature since I like to absorb the book, per se, but I read this all in one day. I started early in the morning and ended late that night, but I couldn't put it down! This was an "ignoring life for the win" kinda book!
With a title like Clam Jam, I seriously had to wonder how crude this book was going to be. I didn't want some shock-jock style book. I wanted funny. I wanted well timed comedy, with some love and a little drama. Well, I totally got funny, and then some. This book read like a romantic comedy/chick flick mix and it was honestly the easiest read I've had all year. This was a really cute read and I loved it! The one thing I didn't love though was how the ex girlfriend who the H dated for 8 months, I think, was the one to tell the h that he wasn't gay. I felt it could've gone a couple different ways and it didn't have to be her. Overall though it was a really good story and I would recommend it!

Very Cute. Very Funny.
Well, if truth be told, I only chose Clam Jam for review because of that title. I thought there was no way in hell a book with a title like that wouldn't be funny. And it was funny. Plus really sweet. A nice, solid romance with a little bit of a speed bump thrown in. I'm going to review a bit vague as to not spoil any of the storylines.
"Right now is perfect. Because I'm with the one I love. Now if only I can get her to love me back."
Oh this guy had me hooked from the moment I met him. Ryland was so sweet and sincere I couldn't stand it. He went totally out of his comfort zone to get to know Maggie better without making her uncomfortable. It sounds creepier than it was, but everything he did, he did for her. Rarely do you get a romance where the man is pining for the woman. It was a nice change of pace. Too bad he had to lie to get closer to her. The lie was huge too and all I could do was impatiently keep reading and waiting for the bomb to drop.
Maggie had sworn off of men, but that handsome and funny Ry hooked her too. She needed a friend like him right at the moment, so the timing was perfect. After suffering a bad breakup, her new gay, yet super hot roommate was just the ticket.
So we go through the months with Maggie and Ry as roommates working to much more. They have that ease around each other that Ry knows he wouldn't get if he were truly pursuing her. As time goes by and Ry thwarts any type of dating for Maggie what so ever, these two have become best friends.
The book is well written from dual points of view. I absolutely loved the chemistry and banter between Ry and Maggie. R.C. Boldt has written a perfect book boyfriend for her readers, if you don't count the little white lie he was telling. Along with Maggie and Ry, we have Jack, Ry's best friend and Sarah, Maggie's best friend. It kind of sucked that everybody seemed to know what was going on except for Maggie, however it made the ending much more special. Great, funny read!

So sometimes I sign up to read a book based on the title alone. This is one of those instances. Clam Jam. Think cock block but for a woman. I will give you a moment to put it together. Figure it out yet? I hope you have because I am moving on.
I haven’t laughed this hard in a while and to be honest I needed it. I love rom-coms and Clam Jam is one that I was surprised how much I loved. Maybe it is my type of humor but just even now thinking of it has me laughing. I loved how determined that Ry was to follow through on the whole gay roommate angle and that it went on as long as it did. Poor guy had to be blue, well you get where I am going with that. He knew lying about his sexual preference was the only way he would get close Maggie and have her get to know him but when she finally wants to begin dating again, instead of coming clean he begins to clam jam her and some of it gets to be a little ridiculous but I loved it anyways.
Maggie had a bad relationship so she wants nothing to do with men for a while, so her gay roommate is the perfect solution but what happens when more than a friendship begins to form and the secrets Ry has been keeping come out I understood why she was reacting the way she did. I do think she was a bit blind though because I think she would have figured it out if she had actually taken into account certain things.
I really enjoyed this one, I love the banter, I loved the characters, I loved the overall plot. I do hope we get a book with some of the secondary characters because I have a feeling those two (read the book you will know who I am referring to) will put Ry and Maggie to shame.
