Nadat ik op het festival Opwekking een lezing over Luther had bijgewoond heb ik dit boek gekocht. Daar heb ik beslist geen spijt van gehad. Het is niet mijn normale genre maar deze biografie heeft me zeer geboeid. Het scheelde dat ik ook een film over Luthers leven heb kunnen kijken, daardoor had ik bij veel stukken het boek ook een beeld. Ik ben benieuwd geworden naar meer personen uit die tijd. Over Calvijn heeft Selderhuis ook een boek geschreven, eens kijken of ik die ook te pakken kan krijgen.

Een goed politiek correct overzicht van Luther's leven. Het grootste minpunt vond ik dat het boek niet chronologisch is waardoor het soms moeilijk is de context te plaatsen. De geleerdheid van dit werk is echter wel indrukwekkend. Luther's werken worden talloze keren aangehaald.
