A restless high school graduate. A self-made private investigator. A criminal who can't forget the past. An airplane mechanic with wings of faith. Abby Grant is impatient to take control of her summer. When offered an internship with her detective uncle, she accepts for all the wrong reasons and becomes the target of a sinister organization. Rick Benton is a detective with a grudge against God. He believes in only himself - until he loses control of the case and risks more than just his career. Neil DeWitt is at odds with life and the law. When his black market business brings him back home, he meets a young woman who reminds him of the past he's tried to forget. Andrew Baxter dreamed of being a pilot, but God had other plans. Restoring a Douglas DC-3 helps him see God's purpose - if only the girl he cared about could understand.
I don’t easily get hooked into a book series, but I must admit that I want to know where Hogrege takes her characters next. Captive Beneath the Bahamian Sky introduces us to Abigail (Abby) Grant, a recent high school graduate who has a Nancy Drew curiosity. She may have inherited the trait from her detective uncle, Rick Benton. However she acquired or developed it, she tends to ignore the old saying, “Curiosity killed the cat,” and in her case it nearly did.
Rather than letting her experience push her into obscurity, she set out to find out why she had been attacked and by whom. News of the occurrence caught the attention of her uncle Rick and the FBI. They had their own reasons for joining the chase—reasons they kept from Abby until telling her might do more to keep her safe than hiding them.
The characters live in your mind as you read through the story. You will find yourself caring about them and for that reason readers will want to follow the loose strings that remain at the end of this first book of her series. It was a fun read with enough tension to turn pages but not too dark or heavy. This goes on my recommendation list.
Abby Grant is offered an internship with her detective uncle. She accepts and becomes a target. Uncle Rick Benton believes only in himself and loses control of the case. Neil DeWitt's black market business brings him back home, where he meets a woman who reminds him of his past. Andrew Baxter restores a DC-3.
Abby's curiosity takes her into danger. Tension heightens as she's determined to find out who and why her attack happened.
Biblical principles are sprinkled throughout the story. I love that. The characters are real people working out their faith, or lack of it. Lessons are learned. I'm on to the next book in this series.
A little romance, a little humor, lots of twists and turns, excitement, thrills and chills, combine to make a good read. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Good story that shares God's grace and mercy. I enjoyed reading this book. I liked how it shows that no matter what God calls us to do He will help us do it
