Despite a powerful snowstorm that has shut down the city, Silver and the Mageri crew are preparing to spend a peaceful holiday at home, surrounded by family, food, and merriment. But the party comes to an abrupt end when Logan receives an unexpected call, one that forces him to make a life-changing decision that could affect his relationship with Silver forever. The Gift is book #5.5 in the Mageri series by Dannika Dark. For those of you who have known me for any length of time, you know that I loved this series like crazy. Logan was and still is one of my favorite book boyfriends of all time. So I couldn’t have been happier when Dannika came out with this Christmas novella. I got the chance to revisit every one of the characters of this series that I have grown to love so much. But this wasn’t just a revisit. This was a very important part of the lives of the Cross family. And Dannika managed to make this about everything that Christmas stands for, love, family, sacrifice, along with lots of food, gifts, snow, and just a lot of general cuteness. She even worked in an adorable puppy.
Silver has never been known for her expertise in the kitchen. But this Christmas, she wants to give the people she loves a wonderful dinner that she prepared herself. This is no small undertaking since the Cross brothers have endless appetites. So she has shopped, planned, and cooked for days getting ready for the feast.
Silver and Logan have settled into their lives together and their love for each other has grown stronger every day. But underneath it all, there is something that weighs on Silver’s mind. Something that she’s afraid could tear them apart in the end. Something she can never give Logan.
As everyone gathers for the holiday, outside a huge storm has come in with snow coming down like crazy and freezing temperatures. Logan is unexpectedly forced to venture out in to the storm. It is here that we are again reminded of the fierce loyalty between the Cross brothers. They will lay down their lives for one another.
To say this book warmed my heart would be an understatement. I loved every single page of it. And the ending was just, well, beautiful. I was moved. If you have read this series, you absolutely have to read this addition. If not, then you wouldn’t really understand what was happening. But it is here that I have to urge you to go back to the first book and give it a try. Maybe, just maybe, you will fall in love with these characters just as I have. Thank you so much for this, Dannika Dark. And Merry Christmas to you all.
“There are only a few moments in our lives that count - the ones that take our breath away, when our lives change and the world stops turning. Those moments alter our destiny and place us on an uncertain course, but without them, our lives are meaningless. This was our moment.”
Oh My God… I forgot how much I missed these characters, I kept saying out loud. Oh Logan, Oh Adam, Oh Rose.. lol and so on.
I think what I love best about this book and really any others by Dannika is that it’s like opening a book to your family. You always feel welcome and that you never want to leave. It is like coming home.
This book is the perfect novella not only for the time being as its right around Christmas but because we got to see some of our favorites and what they are doing. It is kind of perfect. I am all kinds of swoony over here.
Silver and Logan will always have that special place in my heart and this book made it sing. <3
Fin… Ok now I really want a Fin book, who is with me. I mean yeah Adam’s book would be fun too but I am all about Fin right now... Pretty Please!!
Let’s talk about the narration for a second, Nicole Poole just does it for me, I swear she can do multiple females well, kids voice and male voices. I loved it as I have loved all her other work.
Well worth the credit this book is a Gem and everyone needs to read it.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
This story begins a few years after Shine ends. The author has a note in the audio and book that warns this book takes place AFTER the series and Risk a standalone set in the Mageri world. Had I not been reading this for the #HoHoHoRAT I would have stopped and read it first. *shakes fist at Goodreads*
It's the holidays and everyone is living under the same roof. I loved seeing everyone settled and getting updates. Simon and Justus go shopping for a tree since this is the first Christmas everyone is home. Silver is cooking for all of them. Oyi! Laughter, a touch of sadness and answers to unresolved questions were all delectable.
We learn tidbits on Adam and others and I can only hope that Dark eventually tells their stories. She left it in such a way that my mind was able to create the endings I wanted. A snowstorm and an unexpected phone call have Logan and Silver leaving in the afternoon. Is it the miracle they hoped for or a trap? You will have to read to find out.
I absolutely loved the tie into the Seven series. It left me grinning. The Gift is meant for fans and should not be read as a standalone. I devoured it and will read Risk next. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer
This book warmed my heart and set me in a Christmas mood. Loved catching up with the gang, especially Silver, Simon and Adam. Beautifully written and emotional, it reminded why I loved the Mageri series so much. A must for Mageri fans!
On the Mageriverse, this one should be read before Seven Series, considering that Lakoda is part of Seven in the last few books as an adult, and here he's just a newborn.
(RabidReads.com)The Mageri Series by this author is probably my all time favorite urban fantasy/paranormal romance. Even now that the series is over, I still find time to occasionally re-read or listen to them again. I was excited to find out that the author was giving us one more novella set in her Mageri world, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
It’s Christmas Eve and Silver is going to be hosting her first Christmas dinner. Since she doesn’t cook that much, this is major for her. And besides it will keep her mind off the fact that yet again, they had lost a child to other buyers on the black market. As a Mage, Silver can’t have children, and her mate Logan, a chitah, yearns for a child, as does Silver. Silver throws herself into the task of cooking for all the many beloved characters in their part of the Breed world, including all of Logan’s chitah brothers-men that can eat everyone under the table.
What I truly loved about this book was catching up with all my favorite characters. In addition to Logan and Silver, bad boy Mage, Simon has come to Silver’s and Logan’s home for the holiday. There’s a winter storm raging, and his new girlfriend Ella, has not come to share in the festivities. However, when Simon and Justus go looking for a Christmas tree and ornaments, it made for a laugh out loud look at the two Mages as they cluelessly traversed the world of Christmas shopping. Adam is back and seems to be a bit obsessed by Sadie, Logan’s human sister. Of course, Justus’s mate, Page, and their daughter, Rose are featured. Silver’s best friend, Sunny, and her children come with Novis for the holiday as well. And I can’t forget Finn, a true wolf shifter. Anytime I can spend time with the shy young shifter is a good time. The winter storm isn’t ending so these people are there for the duration. When things happen to cause some of them to leave, the story takes a complete different turn.
The author cautions anyone wanting to start reading her series with this one. You will be lost. This series goes in order and tells a very unique story, one with a wonderful romance, and action and suspense equally. The world building is flawless with each kind of paranormal creature fleshed out amazingly. These aren’t your normal mage’s, shifters, vampires, etc. Logan may be a chitah, but he doesn’t turn into one, instead he embodies one in his mannerisms, some of his features, and his extremely over achieving senses-smell, sight, and even his ability to run faster than is definitely humanly possible.
As always, Dark tells a story that kept me reading the whole thing in one sitting. Of course, it is a novella, but still. The title might refer to a gift in the story, but I truly feel like she was giving all her Mageri fans a gift, one that I will re-read often, as I do all of them.
This series is one that I always highly recommend. Amazing story, writing, and a perfect ending for this wonderful series.
Mageri #5.5 This book is a Christmas story set in Mageriverse, which features everyone known to us in that universe. Chronologically speaking, this story happens after RISK (Mageri #6). But if you look at the list below you will see that if you read all of the series in Mageriverse, chronologically speaking it actually falls after the SEVEN series.

This was a short, extremely cute re visit to one of my all time favorite series and characters. It also added a very large moment for the Cross family.
Logan is and will probably always be amongst my favorite book boyfriends. So I loved revisiting him. We also got more Simon :) who is definitely not a book boyfriend but a book bestie.
I love Dannika Dark and I love LOVE this series. I enjoyed every second of this novella ;)
Now that I've had a few months to forget my dislike of certain aspects of this series I can say that I enjoyed this novella very much. My dislike was mostly directed towards Logan and Silver and the situations they'd get themselves in. All the other characters were very likable and entertaining.
I like how this novella was set up to give a glimpse into the lives of so many of the characters. This story has me invested in a happy ending for Logan's brothers and Finn. If only writing books was a fast, painless and easy process.
Silver and Logan's happily ever after was cute and that's coming from someone that doesn't necessarily like kids in the books she reads. There are exceptions to every rule and this novella turned out to be one of them. Though I wish I had read this authors books in the order that makes little tidbits in the story more visible to me because, if I'm going off of what happened in the end of this novella, I missed a lot.
In conclusion, the family dynamic in this series is amazing. I love how this story and its characters are accepting of others that aren't like them. Their group accepts that love is love, regardless of species, gender, and ethnicity. No one should be ostracized for showing their true selves and being outside of what everyone considers the "norm". It's a beautiful message that deserves recognition!
The Audio Book:
This narrator's voice has grown on me over the course of this series and a few other books. I love her range in accents and believable male and female voices. She's made me look forward to many other audio books when I see her name mentioned as the narrator. Her narration was awesome in this novella!
I can’t say enough about one of my favorite authors except that I am never disappointed when I pick up something written by her and it’s even better when narrated by Nicole Poole. I never read Christmas or Holiday stories during “The Season”, basically because I’m usually overwhelmed by everything Holiday related. This story is an exception. It was fantastic to see where some of my favorite characters were at in their personal lives. Since the Mageri series and the Seven series are written on different time lines we get to go back in time. It’s a special time for Logan and Silver as they receive the most precious gift of all and can share the happiness with their family. I laughed and yes, I cried. If you are a fan, there is no way you can overlook this story, it’s a definite MUST HAVE. Invest in Kleenex. They are happy tears, but it could get messy nonetheless. Dannika Dark & Nicole Poole, Happy Holidays to both of you and thank you for making our holiday bright & better with the release of this beautiful gem. The Oracle gives only honest reviews.
What a great listen! This bonus story in the Mageri series lets us see what the gang are doing now after a couple of years after the events of Shine. Couples, kids and a special Christmas gift that ties into the Seven series. I love how Dannika Dark has wove the characters from her series together in little and big ways.
I wasn't sure if I will go on with this series after listening to Sterling. But the author included the audiobooks in my subscription, so I got them for free. And before returning them without listening I decided to give it a shot. Especially because one of my gr friends told me that this series get better. And she was right.
This book is like a long Epiloge book. We meet all the couples at Christmas and get a look how they are doing. I enjoy the books. And the addition of characters during the series was a great idea.
Several funny Christmas moments with loads of the Mageriverse characters. Many touching moments, great food, then an event that changes Logan and Silver's lives forever. Logan and Silver have sure had their ups and downs throughout this Mageri series. Their story starts out: enemy to friends to lovers type story. Since I've read the Seven Series & Crossbreed before the Mageri Series in this world, I had no idea that we're first introduced to Christian Poe who is one of the main characters in the Crossbred series and Lakota Cross who will star in the new spin off series. In the Seven series I had no idea or couldn't recall that Logan and Silver are his adopted parents. Been awhile since I've read that series. I remember reading about Lakota in the Seven series and who his real birth mother is and had no idea the Mageri series is where Christian and Lakota's stories actually start. Christian Poe is my favorite out of the entire series so far. I've enjoyed the entire Mageriverse series so far and I have only two books to go and I'm all caught up. Loved every character within this series so far. I love their character development and their hardships and the people they fall in love with. Their humor, their pov's, and their tenacity. Logan Cross in this series is swoon worthy IMHO. Silver got on my nerves once or twice also enjoyed Justice and of course Simon whose book is next for me. I can't wait to read more. Really nice novella to cozy up to on a cold winter night.

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.
I’m not a huge Christmas reader. I’m not a person that goes out looking for Christmas related stories. I do enjoy a good Christmas story when it’s about a series and characters that I already love. I love novellas because we usually get to see a different side to the characters than in full length novels. Novellas tend to not have the big mystery plot (or at least not as large of one) and focuses more on the everyday of the characters which is a fun difference.
In this story, we get to see all the favorite characters from the Mageri series come together for Christmas. Like with a real family, some have more love for the season than others. And since this is the first time they are having Christmas together as a group, there is an interesting shopping trip as Justus and Simon go to purchase a tree and decorations. I love the thought process as Justice finds an ornament for each person.
The “gift” that is received it a pretty amazing one that comes at the perfect time. It is a gift that will be loved by all the characters, but a few in particular. I thought about going into this aspect of the plot line a little bit more, but I really loved the aspects of it. But, I decided that it was too much of a spoiler. If you’re a fan of the Mageri series, this is a must have addition. I’m really hoping that we will get another story in this series. Maybe Finn or Adam???
Narration Once again, I really enjoyed Nicole Poole’s narration of this book and the entire series. I really love her voice of Simon. I wasn’t a huge of her voice of the Rose, Justus’s daughter. She does sound younger than the rest of the group, but something about it just didn’t sound right. Rose is a very intelligent child and maybe Poole was working to make her sound it and it didn’t sit right with me. It is a small thing. If you haven’t tried Poole, I really enjoy her narrations.
Dannika has done a wonderful job of bringing our favorite friends alive in this new book. We get a fresh look into everyone's life. Nice to see Novis is still a presence in Sunny and the children's lives. Love that Justus has started to use the studio that Page set up for him. Finn, so very HAPPY for Finn. The newest member of the Cross family will bring such joy and meaning to Finn and his Cross brothers. Love that we are seeing a softer side to Simon. Ella and Joy will be good for him. Sadie and Adam are playing it too coy for me, but we can hope for their Happily Ever After to come. All in all this was a good read and I am so happy to spend the holidays with old friends.
I started listening not realizing it was #5 of a series. The book took you to a place of shifters trying to grow their families. A shifter and a mage got together and couldn't breed a child. So they have to look at the black market to get a baby of their own
Its great to get back with the gang... But the narrator sounds a bit strange... she speaks really fast and weird Robotic isn't the right word...but the way the characters speak to each other seems a little weird.
The story itself was great all the characters back together again Justice with his Grinch and his Rose. Silver and Logan getting their Christmas wish
The Gift is an an amazing look into when Silver and Logan are blessed with the gift of a child, Lakota. For me , this novella was like coming home to some of my favorite characters with the bonus of delving deeper into Silver and Logan's struggle to adopt.
Note to reader: This is not a stand-alone book and should not be read as such. If you have not read the series I encourage you to begin at the beginning of Silver's story.
A heart warming and excellent story! I enjoyed this story even though I knew how it ends. Being a Seven series fan gave me a future glimpse into their lives. I was afraid that it wouldn't be as enjoyable a read because of that but no worries Dannika nailed it! I'm thankful for your creativity.
I really enjoyed this short and heartwarming Christmas novella. I loved getting more of our favourite characters of the Mageri Series and seeing that they still have the strong friend/family bond that was shown throughout the series. I loved the moment when Justus and Simon had to go get the Christmas tree and Christmas decorations, and Justus is a complete grinch. The Christmas decorations they chose made me laugh, especially the tree topper which was the grinch and a tribute to Justus. Simon cracks me up. I see Novis still hasn’t gotten any better with human sayings, as said that he thinks that Sunny was just on the wrong bed when she woke up, instead of that I thinks that Sunny woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Simon and Ella are still being themselves, and not defining their relationship status to everyone but they’re exclusive and seem happy.
I’ve still go a few unanswered questions that will hopefully get answered in more Mageri Series books. Will Sadie and Adam get their own book and will she decide to become a Mage when Novis offers? Will Novis ever admit his feeling for Sunny and will she ever decide to become a Mage? Will the Cross brothers, especially Levi and their honorary brother Finn (Silver’s bio brother) get their own happily ever afters? I’m looking forward to reading more books from Dannika Dark in the future, especially the Crossbreed and the Black Arrowhead Series since I haven’t gotten around to starting them up yet. I’m currently reading through all of Dannika’s Mageriverse books, as even though I’ve read a lot of them multiple times throughout the years I’ve never gotten around to posting reviews. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.
I have to start by saying that I could not review this book impartially and my rating reflects that. Spoiler information will follow, as I explain.
I listened to the audiobook, narrated very well by Nicole Poole. She always does a great job with this diverse cast of characters.
Most of this book is a wonderful, heart warming, gathering of all our favorite characters, friends, couples, and their children from the Mageri series, gathered for the Christmas holidays. Five stars for all of story relating to that.
What I could not let go no matter how I tried was that Silver and Logan were trying to get a child through the black market because they couldn't adopt through regular channels. I cannot believe that the author could not have had one of her characters come up with a better solution than to become a buyer of a child, thus fueling a practice they should be investigated and stopped. I truly did not want to finish the book at this point and kept hoping this wasn't happening, but it did. On that basis alone I wanted to give this book a one out of five stars, but every other aspect is quite good.
So if you can stomach the buying and selling of children then enjoy, otherwise I recommend skipping this short story.
Another heads up Goodreads says this is book 5.5 but I quickly realized that 'Risk' (which is labeled book 6) should actually be read first.
It feels like it has been so long since I fell in love with Silver and Logan. I love the entire extended Cross family and was a little sad when there were no more books in the Mageri series to devour. Naturally, I moved on to the Seven series and aren't crossovers just wonderful?! I knew what was coming with this holiday miracle before it happened as did, I'm sure, all devoted Dannika Dark fans who have also read the Seven series since you get more backstory on the "miracle" in Four Days.
The Cross family is extremely tight-knit and their love for each other shines through in this novella. I love how much they love and support each other especially in times of crisis and concern. I immediately moved on to Winter Moon after finishing The Gift and it left me giddy for another future novel centered on two individuals whom I've especially come to care about. I refuse to spoil either story but they were good enough that I'm considering reading them again!
And what a gift this novella is! Christmas with the Cross brothers, their friends, their mates or soon to be. A love story from start to finish. And best of all, a true Christmas blessing, Logan and Silver never expected to have. The story is about the Cross Brothers, Logan & Silver, Simon & Ella, Justice, Page and Rose, Allen & Sadie, Novis, Sunny, Zoe & Knox and Finn. Great food, wonderful company, special gifts and a phone call that would change all their lives. I have read the whole Mageri Series and it was an amazing story start to finish.
Dannika Dark is one gifted writer. Her story lines are strong and personal. Her characters are loved or hated. Her humor is belly shaking and tear streaming. Not very often am I satisfied this completely with a book series. I highly recommend the Mageri Series and any other books by Ms. Dark. Kathy A Barber Doyle - 3/31/2020
Dark did a great job of gifting us snippets of the characters' lives from the Mageri series. She even managed to wring a few tears from me. And Nicole Poole, as always, narrated perfectly!
*** The Gift was, well a gift. :) It's been about three years since the end of Shine and DDark gives us a little glimpse of where all the characters are at this point in time.
It's Christmas and Silver is hosting everyone for dinner. This in itself was entertaining since she's never been all that handy in the kitchen. Over the course of the days of preparation for the event as well as the actual celebrating of Christmas we learn how life has been impacted by the events in Shine and how Silver, Logan, Justus, Adam, Finn - well, the whole gang - has adjusted and grown in their new lives.
There was no pulse-pounding action but DDark sure delivers a little suspense by having us wonder if everyone will end up getting what they're wanting and needing. It was a delight to see the dynamics between everyone as well as witnessing how their lives have evolved. And, of course, being a part of wishes being granted made it that much more special. DDark managed to wring a few tears from me. The Gift was simply a sweet read...er, listen.
Nicole Poole, as always, did a tremendous job with the narrating. She kept the story flowing and her voices distinct and consistent. She brings these stories to life!
**I received a complimentary copy from Tantor Audio. This did not affect my rating and my review is provided voluntarily.**
All the family joined together to celebrate Christmas a few years later (from the last book of the series). Silver planned to cook for everyone and her and Logan have been trying to get a child from the black market, since all the adoption agencies denied them because they were a mage and cheetah union. Silver is hit pretty hard with rejection after rejection and they get a call during their celebration that drives them out into the snowstorm to a cabin where their fate will be forever changed. Happy to hear this world continues in the Seven Years series...gotta read that one next!!
