Mysterious Miss Tree is searching for special kids to go on a mission to protect plants. Would Mia and Nik join the Plant Savers Club? Are they ready to play interesting games with new friends, create unique crafts using plants, and enjoy the simple life of the past? Would they know how to use seed apps on seed devices? Everything starts with a seed!
Deepa Remesh lives in Austin, Texas with her husband and two kids. Through her first book series based on trees, she tries to introduce kids to a simple sustainable lifestyle presenting them with numerous seeds for thought to cultivate the values of resourcefulness and conservation.
This book would make a wonderful addition to a 3rd or 4th grade curriculum. It is VERY educational while remaining fun and engaging. It reminded me of The Magic Tree House series the way the author blended facts with adventure. I also loved the bits of information, and a link to find out more, that were provided at the end of each chapter. Thank you author Deepa Remesh for providing a copy for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
Miss Tree Tales by Deepa Remesh is a wonderful series that is an absolute must read!
Book #1: Mighty Coconuts is a cute, little gem that should be actively sought out by avid readers. This middle grade novel is short but sweet, and delivering all the right messages.
Mia and Nik live in Texas, and boy is it hot! The nine and seven year olds are full of whimsy and adventure. When a storm seems to blow through, a woman appears and begins to teach the children wonderful facts about the local nature (think droughts, growth and greenhouse gases). These intelligent kids can keep up with Miss Tree with ease, and they learn a lot in the process. Miss Tree offers them a gig to help save the planet! Seedcopters, seed apps and lots of fun happen among the pages of this book - all of which is knowledgeable yet packed with fun! If you're looking for a Green Thumb, this book is just for you!
The illustrations were cute and felt like they fit right into the story. I had an e-copy of the book, but I'm assuming the physical copies would look so much nicer. The quality of the pictures tend to rely on your device these days.
The best part of this book was the "Seeds for Thought" sections at the end of the chapters. These little blurbs provide useful and information and links for curious students to follow. One excellent quote from this book is, "Protect, Sustain, Conserve", which perfectly sums up the goal of this read.
I know, personally, if I would have had books like this about biology back in my school days then I would have liked biology a lot more. I found the teachers were always bored with these topics and made it impossible for any of us students to learn. Deepa Remesh's book makes me actually enjoy learning about biology. I'm sure many students and kids would appreciate help from educational books like this one. To top it off, it's also just a good book in general!
I would recommend kids seven to thirteen read this book. Thirteen might be a little high, but I could see them reading this to their reading buddies. I'd even recommend this book for educational purposes within schools. It's a different take on biology and conservation that I think would be a great asset and tool!
Five out of five stars!
I received a free copy of this book from the author, Deepa Remesh, in exchange for an honest review.
Learning made Fun! This story is on Kindle Unlimited!
An imaginative, delightful story that is sure to grab the attention of young students while introducing them to environmental issues and climate change.
A brother and sister are offered an important mission by the mysterious Miss Tree. They accept the mission in order to help save the future of the earth.
Nik and Mia are given the magical ability to time travel and shrink in size while on an adventurous mission to learn and record for posterity information they learn about the environment and sustainability.

MIGHTY COCONUTS is the first in the MISS TREE TALE series by Deepa Remesh, which is all about sustainable living, resourcefulness, and the environment. Designed for middle grade readers (ages 6-10), this series is delightful for children and adults alike.
Follow along as we get to know Nik and Mia in their journey as they are forced to be more industrious than their hand-held gadgets. Each chapter is infused with logical thinking, quirky humor, and simple, yet endearing illustrations. I love the "Seeds for Thought" section which talks about natural pest control, composting, and habitats best suited for certain plants. The chapter on being crafty with palm leaves definitely spoke to my older daughter who would much rather climb trees that be cooped up indoors.
I found the story cute and fun, not overly scientific, but maybe a little "light" for me and my kiddos (ages 10 and 11). However, it's a fabulous introduction for families interested in topics explored within, perusing hands-on (and survivalist) skills, as well as critical thinking instead of simply relying on a device to get the job done.
Plus, Ms. Remesh is completely...well, down-to-earth, and I so appreciate her style.
What I Loved: Mighty Coconuts is a book about conserving energy and the environment and is targeted at middle-grade readers. I love the message this book is giving to young readers and the future of our world. The way the book is written, gives a lot of information about these topics, but it is done with these missions and time travel. It made it fun to read.
How I Felt:
I was so intrigued by the ideas in this book! There is new, plant technology and it is truly amazing. The thought that went into these fun devices was very detailed. The book even included drawings of these so that we could envision them. There are apps for the kids to use, there’s time travel, and a shrinking device. It all makes for a perfect book for young readers today.
The missions that the children are sent on are really cute, and a bit interactive for the reader sometimes. These were fun for me, and would be enjoyed by a child reading as well.
There are links at the end of the chapters and I appreciated the extra information given through these! I think I would have preferred that the information be collected at the end of the book so that it was easier to reference later, but I loved having a guide for more information.
To Read or Not To Read: This is a chapter book with short, easy to read chapters. I think this is good for a 3rd grade and up reader.
What's This Book About Anyway? Mia and Nik are approached by Miss Tree to go on a mission to save Earth’s plants. They accept this challenge and become members of the Plant Savers Club. They are given all the new gadgets and technology that they will need for their mission including a Seed Pod, Seed Watch, apps, and a Seedcopter.
Will Mia and Nik be able to time travel to 1990 and 1890 and complete their missions to save the plants?
I received a copy of this advanced reader’s copy for free. I am leaving my honest, unbiased review voluntarily.
Mighty Coconuts: Protect, Sustain, Conserve the Environment (Miss Tree Tales Book 1) by Deepa Remesh This book starts out with acknowledgements and connecting online to the author and her sites. Story starts when the kids are outside and realize the shade helps keep them cool. They are in the trees and a figure appears and gives them devices after talking to them for a while. They will help preserve the lands and environment. There are colorful illustrations throughout the book. They are anxious to start the journey and one day they lay down for a nap and they are summoned on their devices that it's time. They have to answer the question right which they do and they follow the directions. They are able to make choices and decide to go back to 1890 to India to learn all about coconuts. They arrive and are able to detect their helpers there with the green thumb sensor they carry. They learn so much from the family about not only how to grow but use all parts of the tree and coconut for food, toys, household things and so much more. What a learning experience, glad they have the seed book handy to write it all down. They then travel to 1990 and they learn the process for different things containing coconut. They find out so much information and notice a few girls that remind them of others but they can't think of who. Love all the mysteries and the solutions. Love the seeds of thoughts at the end of the chapters with more details about what is being discussed and also how you can help. Learned so much about coconuts and you will to. What a fun way to learn. Super loved the part about aphids and how lady bugs can help-we tried praying mantis in our garden but think there was not enough bugs for them to stay long. Might try the lady bug for next years crops-love not having to use pesticides. There is SO much more to find out about, have fun doing it! About the author finishes up this book and I can't wait to find out more about the different trees and the things they can help us with to preserve and save our planet. Received this review copy free from Amazon and this is my honest opinion.
It's worth noting that my daughter, who is the age of the intended reader of this book, enjoyed it. I found the writing choppy and the dialogue stilted, sounding nothing like children. Plus, while I understand it's meant to be educational, it felt very didactic. I did appreciate that the children's parents were from India and, of course, the book has good intentions. And it does accomplish its goal of teaching children about plants and such.
This is a super cute kids book that's also informative. The illustrations are adorable as well. Great for teaching kids about the environment and conservation.
Such a fun and creative way to teach kids about greenhouse gasses, plants, and conservation. The planet needs everyone’s help if it is going to survive. Kudos to the author for creating an amazing way to encourage kids to save our planet. The bonus information and seeds for thought were a nice addition as well.
This is the story of Mia and Nick and how they meet Miss Tree who sets them off on a journey to learn more about plants and protecting them. I assume the author is from kerala. She has described perfectly how they use the coconut plant there. Conservation is something every child must learn.
“I’m one of the people fighting against Mr. Greenhouse" – Miss Tree
Author Deepa Remesh is joined by illustrator Anjana Prabhu-Paseband in presenting this fine book that not only entertains children (ages 6 – 11 being the intended audience) but also provides educational material introducing the important concepts of sustainable living, conservation, and protection of natural resources as well as information about chocolate origins!
As this is Book 1 of the Miss Tree Tales series, Nik and Mia first meet Miss Tree in the woods and she challenges them to go on missions to protect the sanctity of plants. The two are made special members of Miss Tree’s Plant Savers Club, and among things, they are informed about the now greedy Mr. Greenhouse (and Global Warming). This fun and educational book relates the missions Mia and Nik experience as the mysterious Miss Tree sends them to various places around the world where they not only have fun, but also learn about various plants and their natural habitats, including of course the mighty coconut (now hailed as one of the best supplements available!).
In addition to being a fine story for children (and their lucky parents) MIGHTY COCONUT offers puzzles, games and other activities to supplement the message of the book. Even the title character of this series – Miss Tree (read ‘mystery) shows the author’s fine imagination and parody. We need more books such as this to encourage our children to honor and value our planet. Highly recommended.
Greenfield, TX. Summer was almost over. Mia (9, daughter/sister) & Nik (7, son/brother) were out hiking with their parents. Lots of pecan nuts had fallen off the tree. Suddenly a storm was coming up. Ms. Tree tried to comfort the 2 kids. She explained to them Mr. Greenhouse keeps the Earth warm/cozy. Ms. Tree explained global warming & tree forestation. Mr. Hybrid & Mr. Electric clash all the time with Mr. Greenhouse. She asked Mia & Nik if they would like to join the Plant Savers Club.
What else did Ms. Tree explain to them? Where do Mia & Nik venture of too next?
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great colored pictures & proper font & writing style. A very well written children’s educational botany story book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational botany movie, a classroom PP presentation or mini TV series. It was just OK for me so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.
Thank you for the free author; Dreampath Publishing; 1 edition; BookSends; Amazon Digital Services LLC.; book Tony Parsons MSW (Washburn)
Miss Tree Tales is a series by Deepa Remesh. The purpose of the series is to help teach children the value of sustainable living. The series also serves to promote the conservation of natural resources.
I just got finished reading Miss Tree Tales Book #1, Mighty Coconuts and I'm already wanting to read Book #2, Incredible Cacao. From the beginning of Mighty Coconuts, I recognized the key message of the book. As a teacher and homeschooler I recommend this as a great starting point to talk to your students or children about the topic of conservation and other earth science issues.
In Mighty Coconuts we are introduced to Mia, Nik, and Miss Tree. Mia and Nik are siblings who meet Miss Tree in the forest. Miss Tree explains the mission of the Plant Savers Club and their mission of "Protect, Sustain, Conserve". She has the siblings join the Club in their mission to collect information about plants in order to combat Mr. Greenhouse (Global warming). The siblings are given access to a variety of Seed tools and set off on their first mission - to learn about the Mighty Coconut.
As a former junior high Science teacher, I believe this series is a great way to connect reading and Science. The book combines great facts and information with a plot that most students will find thrilling. Who wouldn't want to be given access to all kinds of fantastical tools such as a Seedcopter?!?
There is much wisdom to be gained from this book. My fear though is much of that wisdom may be lost on kids of the age group this is intended for. I may be wrong yet the book contains many links to other sites for more information on things that children in the intended age bracket may not ever decide to check simply because of their age group. Regardless the book itself is very informative also, so if those reading this are truly interested in the subject matter, great- those links are wonderful. I myself at this age was very interested in trees and nature and did read many a book on the subject. I was not your average kid however. I do feel the book could have used another edit as there are some minor grammatical errors, yet it is well written from the sense of 'proper spoken English.' Almost too much so. Certainly worth a look.
This information-rich first book in its series balances education, fun, and even a little bit of danger. After Mia and Nik encounter "mysterious" Miss Tree, a range of plant-based technology helps them to time travel on missions to learn about the mighty coconut tree and the industry that arose from it. The kids -- and readers -- learn not only about how the trees and their parts are used, but also how pre-Industrial Revolution workers ensured the trees' propagation and survival through other species, and how today's industry used coconut products to prevent natural disasters. I enjoyed the "Seeds for Thought" lessons interspersed between chapters, and how the characters interacted to learn and solve problems. This would be a valuable addition to any science curriculum!
Author Deepa Padmaraj does a great job when giving human attributes to natural occurrences, such as: Mr. Greenhouse, who is in charge of keeping the earth warm, but has become greedy. She makes each character come alive with a vivid description and she intertwines facts and fiction in a kid-friendly way.
Mia and Nik go on a mission to learn about global warming, conservation, plants, drought, and seeds. They experience time travel and are changed into mini humans. All the gadgets that are needed for their survival are made available for them. They get to meet interesting people during their travels.
The formatting was problematic on my reader and the text was sometimes difficult to navigate.
This book was written with intelligent forethought in an adventure that is educational and piques the child's imagination. (My own as well) I enjoyed thoroughly that their "Guide" instead of speaking down to them spoke on their level of understanding. Informative, fun and nicely done. It provokes the curious mind and leaves the reader whether young or my own age with the sense of importance in all we learn in it's pages. -To The Author- I could feel your passion. I look forward to reading more. A SOLID Five Stars!
This is a very well-thought book for kids (probably aged between 6-9) about saving trees, especially with a lot of information about coconut trees. The main character's, Mia and Nik, adventures are entertaining and informative. Technology was included in their adventures too, I particularly like that part as it shows how technology can contribute to sustainability. Time travel is also part of the story, which makes the adventures even more entertaining. I learned new things while reading the book, so it can be a good reading both for parents and for children...
This is the second book I have read by this inspiring author and I absolutely love how she combines her passion for seeds and plants with time travelling and adventure. There are strong themes about environmental and sustainability issues which gets the reader really to think about how they can do their part. I have learnt so much from this beautiful and gentle story and I can't wait to read the next one. I would love to see these books on the school curriculum.
The concept, story and the description is all developed by Deepa Remesh, and I was so excited by the idea of explaining botany to kids using imagination. I accepted the illustration work after I read the whole book. This is a cool way for kids to get to know about different trees and their uses without using boring, wordy scientific books. I believe it's important to know the different trees that inhabit our planet and that awareness is what makes us contribute to the welfare of our planet.
I read and am reviewing these books at the request of the author, Deepa Remesh. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the series based on her description in the message to me, nor the synopsis. I was worried they’d be a little too preachy and the story would get lost in the message. The beginning of the first book, Mighty Coconuts, left me feeling that’s exactly what I would get. However... We loved the story and the seeds for thought gave us a chance to keep learning after we had read the book. I am always looking for books that spark the mind and this one did not disappoint. Thank you to the author for sparking continued learning in our young children.
Love, love, love the way she explains conserve the Environment
This book was so fun to read from the beginning. I loved the way the author explained how to take care of the earth in a fun way. My grandson is seven and just started reading chapter books, I can’t wait for him to read this one.
This book was such an enjoyable read. I learned so much about coconuts. You'll enjoy traveling with Nik and Mia back in time to learn about the different uses of coconuts, and the Seeds for Thought at the end of each chapter adds a wealth of further info. Well done.
The story shows kids how to conserve and love a sustainable life. Perfect for today’s world. The story is very creative and keeps your interest. Great job!
This is a very interesting and thoughtful book about climate change. Though I thought, in the beginning, the message was a bit heavy handed, it smoothed out and turned into a very enjoyable ride. The author mixes the present (apps, watches, other devices) well with the past in providing great perspective about actual change that has happened. There is a nice cultural flavor throughout the book, so kids can learn about a new place, it's food, dress, language and how others use and used nature sustainably. I also enjoyed the "Seeds for Thought" extras. The book is quite long (for kids), 90+ pages, and I wish there were more illustrations, but overall, a very enjoyable read. I could see this as a book and older sibling would read to younger siblings. I will definitely read more from this author.
