A picture from Chapter 117, page 153. Deku: “Hey.”
(This review utilizes mouse-over image sources/captions, give it a try!)

I have a confession. Secretly, every time I pick up a new volume of My Hero Academia, I’m a little bit scared. Scared that it’s not going to be as good as I remembered. Scared that I’m not going to like it. It’s nothing personal towards this series, it’s just a worry I’ve developed due to being disappointed by other series in the past. *cough*A recent example being Kiss Him, Not Me!*cough*.

Well, thanks to the great Horikoshi-sensei my fears have been consistently kept at bay quickly following the start of each volume. I’m scared of the day when I won’t want to rate a volume in this series 5 stars, but today is not that day.

For recap’s sake, since this is a long series:
This volume concluded the Preliminary License arc , and then we got some cool backstory for Twice, and a little convo between All Might and One For All. There’s rising tension and trouble on the streets caused by All Might’s retirement which was announced in volume 11, and the introduction of the villain seen on the volume 14 cover. An overall pretty wildin’ and awesome volume as always!

Another consistent thing with this series is that it once again ENDED WITH AN AGONIZING CLIFFHANGER!!!!!!!!!!! Or, rather, would-be agonizing cliffhanger, because for some reason this volume took like a month to finally ship to my house, so the next volume is already hot out on the presses, ready to be picked up and read!! My plan is to hopefully be able to pick up a copy instore in order to avoid another month-long shipping debacle.

Here is the wonderful chapter cover for chapter 119, to show the beautiful hype for the next volume, followed by more hype pics (Don’t click the spoiler unless you’ve read volume 13):

Next volume, plz and thx.

The dull, dumb and useless exam storyline that started in the previous volume is mercifully over and takes up only half of this volume's length. It was still a pain to get through, and its only saving grace were the results of who passed and who didn't, though they came basically out of nowhere and Horikoshi might as well have just recited the results without bothering with the exam itself, it was so bad.

Thankfully, the second half of the book returns to form with some okay setup for the next villain threat, as well as All Might coping with his current situation and trying to move on with his life. But the really good part didn't start until the final two collected chapters, where Deku and Bakugo finally have a face-to-face confrontation. This is the big cliffhanger for now, and Horikoshi surprisingly managed to win me back enough to want to continue reading anyway after that disastrous exam storyline. I just hope we don't see any of that sort of shit again.

Okay, the students from UA have a test on how best to recuse civilians from a disaster zone, the idea is pretty interesting!

Plus again, when faced by a challenge or an emotional/friendship/rival issue (especially when the issue of All Might is involved), our main characters, the young Izuku and young Katsuki resolve into having a fist fight, as usual. LOL LOL

Overall it's an enjoyable and eventual volume!!!

PS: I admit I read the super cute boy's love fanfics basing on this series first before I got to the canon. XD

I think it's hilarious that Bakugo probably chose his Hero name because he thought it sounded scary and impressive --- Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight.
But it turned out to sound funny instead, simply because it's waaaayyy too long!

It was all ok until the end of this volume… and now I’m rearing to go. :)

The end of the provisional test was fine and fun but nothing compared to the real heart-on-your-sleeves moment at the end.

The end of the provisional license test and the way things turned out was different then what I expected for some characters! I’m interested to see how things go with some of the more minor characters going forward.

On the villain side of things, Toga is downright terrifying—she’s so mentally whacked yet sincere it’s scary. The chapter with Twice I found kind of confusing as it felt kind of thrown in there, but it did introduce us to, I think, our new main sorta bad guy (for now, haha), Overhaul, who’s…kinda creepy, not gonna lie. Wonder what his deal will turn out to be…

This did feel like a bridge volume between arcs (or it just felt that way due to the anxiety ridden mood I was in at the time, yay…), but I still enjoyed it and where things left off have me finally wondering if Deku and Bakugo could finally, sorta, get along? Maybe?

It's impossible to stop reading this manga, each volume it keeps getting more and more exciting, and Midoriya and his School Friends keep getting stronger and wiser with all these battles.

The next part is about Bakugo not thinking he’s the center of the universe for once, and feeling responsible for Almight’s retirement. Now that counts as character development and would normally be a good thing. Unfortunately Horikoshit is completely incompetent and had this event taking place after a tensionless exercise arc. Why would Bakugo feel sorry about it now and not immediately after he got rescued and Almight retired? Because he failed in the training arc? So what, it’s not like he lost anything, he could retake the exam a few months later. There was no real punishment for his failure, the same way having a fight with Deku didn’t have a real punishment. They were just doing chores for a few days and then the whole thing got forgotten as always. Once again the problem is the complete lack of consequences, making every theme exploration to be completely shallow. That’s Horikoshit for you.

The volume was able to keep the flow going a lot better than the previous volume, especially with the License Exam. I really liked that we were able to see. more into Bakugo as a person and how he really is feeling about the previous situation he experienced. I like the idea that we could see some character development. :)

- It's been too long since I've read a volume of this. This volume has just reinforced the fact that Bakugo is my baby who needs protecting.

Finishing the Provisional License Exam, this Volume not only keeps the story great and the action excellently paced, but introduces some new characters who I believe will begin to have a much stronger role.
Highlights and storylines:
- Volume starts with the second half of the Provisional License Exam: Rescue. It appears as if all the rescuees are children and elderly people, but they are in fact part of a group known as the HLC (Help Us Company), a group of trained professionals who rate the heroes as they rescue them.
- Inasa Yoarashi makes himself known again, this time getting into it with Todoroki. Seems that Inasa has a grudge against Endeavor, who is Todoroki's father. Both father and son ignored him when was expressing his admiration for them. It is also revealed that his quirk is Whirlwind.
- The rescuing seems to be going well, so the test givers throw a new wrench into the game with the arrival of Gang Orca. The test now becomes... "Can you still rescue while you fight?" The fight is complicated though, as Inasa and Todoroki are still bickering and not working together. Once they set aside their differences, they are able to combine their powers to create a Flame Tornado which traps Gang Orca.
- The test ends. Inasa, Todoroki, and Bakugo (for his occasional "Help Yourself" comments) do not pass, but the rest of Class 1-A does. The failed students are given the opportunity to go to a Remedial Class so they may earn their licenses as well.
- The mysterious Camie leaves after the testing, and some of those who know her react to her recent strangeness. Turns out, Camie has been gone for a while and was being replaced by Himiko Toga, her Quirk finally being revealed as a shapeshifter. She also has obtained a vial of Deku's blood, which lets the reader know that she may be shifting to him and causing trouble soon.
- We get a short backstory for the villain Twice, who has a Quirk similar to Marvel's Multiple Man
- All-Might goes to visit All-For-One in the jail the villains have dubbed "Tartarus. They have a great exposition about the future of Heroes vs. Villains.
- With Deku passing the exam, and Bakugo not passing, Bakugo takes Deku outside to the nearby training "city. Confronting him about his Quirk. he has figured out that All-Might passed his quirk to Deku. They begin to fight, having both looked up to All-Might while growing up.

How will this fight end? Onto the next one!

Yay. I thought 12 was better but this was only a little down so we'll go for 4.6 stars.

The girl from the other school (i literally already forgot the name of), Camie, was so interesting and THEN . I hated that one dude who didn't like Todoroki because I hate loud and confident guys like that.

Anyway i don't have many opinions but like the last one, too much action. BUT, I was so happy with my girl Uraraka getting some development for like half a chapter. I just have this connection with her for some reason that I honestly don't even have with Deku. But her coming to terms with her schoolgirl crush mixed with adoration for Deku in that chapter was so well done. She sees that Deku is focusing on why hes at school, to become a hero. The fact that she comes to terms with, okay I like him and goes on to push her feelings down to go towards her goals at UA is the best. Uraraka deserves the world!!

The provisional licensing exam proves to be no cake walk as it truly tests the students on how to seriously handle a disaster event, but unbeknown to them someone is secretly watching them. Retired All Might visits the man who made him give up his hero life, and there’s a surprise near the volume’s end: Midoriya and Bakugo have a fight-off. A (100%/Outstanding)

Great progression in this volume! The license exam reminds you that these kids are kids and it has you expecting something crazy to go down during the experience at any time. The conversation between All Might and All For One was beautifully written and the confrontation between Kacchan and Midoriya was top tier storytelling!

EN RESUMEN
La segunda y última instancia del examen de licencias temporales comienza.

ASPECTOS POSITIVOS
- Todoroki vuelve a brillar luego de muchos tomos. Y otra vez volvemos a Endeavour.
