As death nears for Deirdre, a pardon is issued, but it falls into the wrong hands. Richard happens upon Deirdre in the cage. He vows to do battle with Wrothbury, find Deirdre’s daughter, the pardon, and set her free. But can Richard de Laci save Deirdre from the cage or does she save herself.

I like Mercer's stories, this one had some twists that had me jumping up and going "what!!!!???" Love those kind! I think Mercer writes an excellent bad guy, I love getting all riled up about their underhanded, twisted, nasty dealings with the heroine, that way I can hope through the book that they get what they deserve.
The history is good too, so if you like good bad guys, history, a good love story, etc, read Mercer's books.
