Vibrant prose, strong and endearing characters and a roller coaster ride of twists, turns, loops and reversals make this murder thriller a must read!

Meet Houston Homicide Detective Noah Daugherty and his partner, Connor Crawford. Noah's wife was recently killed in a traffic accident and Connor's wife is expecting their first child. Noah is working to overcome his loss, while trying to help his wife's dog deal with the same loss.

Noah and Connor land the case of a beautiful socialite, Crystal Hudson, killed on the road home from yoga class. Both feel that the wealthy husband is responsible but didn't do it himself. Talking to the Hudson's neighbors brings Noah into contact with Laurel. She is a woman in the middle of a divorce where the husband holds all the financial advantages. Confiding that they had just discovered that Crystal was in the same financial situation and that she had just recently confronted her husband about it, tells Noah that they are on the right path in the investigation.

Noah and Connor find that they on the trail of a hired killer who is young, extremely intelligent and has no morals. When the killer discovers that Noah has linked him to the murder he makes plans to eliminate him and his dog. When those plans don't work, he goes to work eliminating everyone that can tie him to the murder.

This book will pull you in and not let go! The characters are well developed and three dimensional. Seeing Noah struggle with his inner demons and how Connor helps him, make a great background. How they go about solving the murder and then proving they have the right suspect will keep you turning the pages.

DNF of the 1st book, also after investigating the series.

!!!Contains spoilers!!!

The H, Noah, lost his wife in a car accident the day she found out she was pregnant.
He met his later new love interest, Laurel, in the 1st book. She was in the process of divorce from her cheating husband. Noah didn't find her very attractive.
Deeply grieving 🙄 for his late wife he had a sexual relationship with OW in the 2nd book, who wasn't Laurel.
It's not even about safety, I just found it disrespectful toward his deceased wife.

Moving on.

Laurel called the new woman of her husband a bimbo. Slut-shaming. Strike one.
And the male protagonist, who after my next spoiler lost any right to be called a hero, wanted to put down his dog, who missed his deceased wife and misbehaved a bit. He said in the 4th book, which I downloaded to read the epilogue, that he tried to kill his dog.
What a POS!
Strike two and three.
The end.

Winter Song introduces Houston Detective Noah Daughtery and his partner Connor Crawford. Noah is still grieving over the loss of his wife and trying his best to get along with Sweet Pea, the dog who loved and misses her. Sweet Pea's grief targets Noah, and Sweet Pea punishes him in the way only dogs can.

When a woman is killed on the way home from a yoga class, the wealthy husband is a suspect, but since he didn't commit the crime himself, Noah and Connor look for a third party.

When they get too close, the killer targets Noah. And Sweet Pea.

I enjoyed this first book in a new-to-me series and look forward to more.

A riveting story that hooked me from the first page and kept me on the edge of my seat! Loved the interaction between Noah and his partner as they work to solve the case. And his poor dog, Sweet Pea. Such a nice touch. Great murder mystery with twists and turns that will tug at your heart and have it racing. Throw in a crazy killer determined to win and you've got a story you’ll not soon forget. Look forward to reading more in this series!

This is my first book by this author and I look forward to many more.
Noah has survived a horrible heartbreak and is at a pivotal point in his life. Move on or give up. He throws himself into his job as a.police detective. His current case is a doozy.
This is so much more than a mystery, it's about healing.
Well written story, with amazing complex characters. I cannot wait for more.
I voluntarily reviewed this book and was not compensated in any way.

What a great start to a new series! Noah is a homicide detective on a mission. He just wants to lock up all the bad guys, one right after the other. This new case puts him in danger, and the twists and turns keep on coming. This is one book you don't want to miss!

I recommend the book.
I read SUMMER STORM out of sequence and was pleased to find the same quality of writing in the first book of a four part series. The author knows how to write to write! Her mechanics of good writing were excellent. The few errors appeared to be computer generated. Read the reviews by other readers to learn about the plot and Detective Noah because they were all excellent.

The book started a little slow but quickly picked up in pace once the psychopath started his killing for money, pleasure and sexual gratification. Detective Noah caught the guy but not before the perp killed many people, including his own parents. The author described the psychopath through his actions, and I do like that style of letting the reader get into the mind of a ruthless killer. The killer, Ryan, attended a prestigious university and, true to the psychopathic mind, felt intellectually superior to his professors. He had the same attitude toward the police for he had killed and killed and never got caught. He felt no guilt for his bad acts. On the other hand, Noah felt guilty for things he had done in his past. At the end of the book, the author delivers a zinger about Noah that will rock your world. It will make you compare your unconfessed guilt to Noah's and wonder how you both live with it.

Thank you, Ms. Muller, for a good read.

It took a chapter or two to get into this story, but once I did, I enjoyed it very much, so much, that I got another book by the same author. In this book the lead detective is so realistic - he is by no means the smartest, most perfect detective. He misses clues, nearly gets murdered a couple of times, and has a younger, very dedicated and loyal partner. A wealthy woman is shot while driving and her husband is strangely not too upset and shoots to the top of the suspect list. But he definitely was not the shooter, so perhaps it is a hired shooter. The story raced along as the detectives sort out clues and interview neighbors. Meanwhile, the shooter has the plan to get rid of the detective and any witnesses plus the guy who hired him. I don't want to give too much away, but when the #1 suspect has a super high IQ it's got to be more complicated to solve the case. The sarcastic banter between the two detectives is refreshing and made me smile often. The action was often thrilling and kept me wondering how these guys were going to catch their man. Quite a good story with believable characters and a cute little dog to give the story even more depth.

Murder means money to a diabolical individual. But his last caper may be the end of his budding career as a killer for hire. Detectives Noah and Conner are on the case. Noah is still mourning the death of his beloved wife and contending with her small grieving dog. Conner's wife is pregnant with their first child. But the killer is merciless and will exploit any weakness.

This is an interesting book though implausible in spots. I did like Noah and his growing acceptance of the little dog. I found it hard to believe that one of the victims, a wealthy man with a state of the art security system could be so easily outmanoeuvred. It didn't make sense that the killers would not receive their final payment unless the cops did not suspect the person who hired them. Seems like they would collect after the job was done. Perhaps I am getting soft in my shelter in place exile but it was not half bad. I did not, however, like violence directed towards the dog though. Otherwise decent read with a few problems.

Noah Daugherty was a detective who'd lost his wife to an accident. He and their dog, Sweet Pea, are both grieving. All he has is his work. When a wealthy socialite is murdered, shot in the head while driving, he suspects the husband, but proving it is another matter entirely. He and his partner work to solve the case which eventually puts Noah in the sights of a killer.

Loved this book. Noah grabbed me from the very first page. He was doing his best to cope with his loss and take care of the dog who seems to have it in for him. Sweet Pea added to the story and the way she and Noah finally bonded was priceless. It was a highly entertaining story. Looking forward to the author's next book.

Winter Song by author Susan C. Miller has me hooked as a fan of this new series. Detective Noah Daughtery and his partner Connor Crawford are the perfect team for solving homicide cases in the city of Houston. Noah is a widower and in this book, we do not have all the details of what has happened. Noah is a trained classical singer and musician. Conner is married and his wife is expecting their first child. I love the banter between Noah and Conner and their concern for each other. Oh, and Sweet Pea, adorable little dog!

Great new detective series! Detective Noah Daugherty is a Houston homicide detective. He is a little tortured and we discover his wife has just died monts ago. But he pushes that all to the side when he's called out for a homicide. Especially when a simple car accident looks more sinister. As the case heats up, the killer actually comes after him. After almost succeeding, Noah is more determined to catch the killer. A good story that was easy to follow.

A good book with a very interesting lead character.

I started this after another book by this author in which Noah has a supporting role. I would have preferred to read this first since I feel my impressions are skewed as a result. But I'm not sure of that either. I do recommend reading this series before Time to Run.

Excellent pacing. The personal aspects are woven well into the murder plot, which also has a ton of stuff going on. Convoluted in the best of ways.

Well written and interesting but the villain is too vile, with actions I just don't want to read about, so I couldn't finish it. I expect the whole series is good, but you have to have a higher tolerance for violence than I have.
