Jeffrey Nordella grew up in near poverty, yet he succeeded in earning a medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine. He married his soul mate, had three beautiful children, and spent each day at his family and urgent care clinic doing what doctors are supposed to do and what he loved: caring for people. He never thought that advocating for his patients would make him the target of a "for profit" insurance company whose subscribers comprised nearly 60 percent of his practice. Thus began the 10-year strategic legal battle, which included submission of the case to the United States Supreme Court. This story illuminates a single medical practitioner locking arms with a solo-practicing attorney to challenge the unethical and illegal business practices of the multi-billion dollar insurance giant, Anthem Blue Cross. Amidst the legal fight, Dr. Nordella suffered tragic personal losses that would bring the average man to his knees. The murder of his beloved wife marked the pinnacle of his pain. This nonfiction book chronicles one man's journey to overcome insurmountable odds ending in a monumental, multi million dollar jury verdict. This extraordinary story is brought to you because Dr. Nordella refused to be censored by confidentiality. DENIED... a must read.
This is a hard-to-put-down true story of a doctor who battled the insurance giants to give his patients the best care. Even if I hadn't know Jeffrey Nordella personally I would have found this book uplifting because of what one man accomplished. I first met Dr. Nordella when he began practicing in my home town. I was in the waiting room when a frantic mom asked if the doctor would treat her sick son that day but change the date to the following day when she would have insurance. Dr. Nordella came out to talk with her saying that he couldn't change the date - but he would treat her son free that day. This shows what kind of man this is.
As a practicing litigation attorney, the legal arguments and strategies underlying Dr. Nordella's triumphant victory against Anthem Blue Cross are highly educational and instructional. The shocking revelations behind Anthem Blue Cross' unethical business practices make this the trial of the decade. A highly accomplished litigator, Dr. Nordella's attorney dazzles the courtroom with her sophistocated and brilliant examination of high ranking CEO's. She effortlessly unveils the corruption behind the multi billion dollar insurance giant. The medical stories reveal the true and magnificent excitement that exists in emergency room. This is the best book I've read this year and is an essential read for EVERYONE.
This story was unbelievable. It felt like I was reading fiction. The amount of suffering that Dr Nordella endured throughout his journey was incredible. I was extremely happy that it finally worked out in the end.
Dr Nordella is a practicing physician in Valencia Ca. He chronicles his family life and his quest to get an unheard of win against Blue Cross Ins. I highly recommend this book
Amazing story of a man who triumphed over many tragedies
I met Jeff Nordella when he first began practicing in Santa Clarita. While I was waiting a woman was explaining to the receptionist that her son was ill but that their insurance would not take effect until the next day. She asked if the doctor could treat her son but change the date. He came out to see her and said that he could not do that. But then he said that he would see her son for free that day. I knew that we had found a doctor who cared! In later years I talked with our insurance carrier many times and kept hearing their explanations of why my treatment was wrong all the while Dr Nordella was caring for our family and even saved my life. I knew about the death of his wife and that he left the office he had shared near us, but I didn't know the rest of his battle with the insurance company . This book was well written and interesting . I recommend it most highly!
