Beauty and the Book Boyfriend

Rate this book
When Bellamy Strong started writing, it wasn’t with the intention of becoming the next phenomenon. It was…to be blunt she had no friends. School is rough on the anti-social. It’s even harder publishing your books and the world decides it wants a piece of you.

Now her series is ending and her publisher is demanding she show up for her fans. End her reclusive persona. A three month, worldwide book tour dressed as Makyla, the lead character in her book. As for Maxsen, the love interest, her fans pick model Caleb Pace to play the role during a casting contest. No big deal right?

What happens when your fantasy comes to life and turns out better than you imagined?

Bellamy Strong has severe social anxiety and has spent a lot of her life in her own head. What started out as a way to cope with her own loneliness turns her into a bestselling author of a novel featuring her alter ego Makyla, a vampire slayer, and her ideal fictional man Max. Before her next book comes out Bell agrees to go on a book tour dressed as Makyla with a male model that is voted as being the most like Max by the fans. Cabel seems like a douche at first but Bell learns to see underneath his pretty exterior and facade on the road trip across the country as they head from city to city on the book tour as Cabel also helps Bell grow from her social anxiety and live her life.

The writing in the book was a little immature for me and Bell's inner monologue was a little jarring because she would switch between talking in the present and past and from talking to herself and the reader it almost seemed. I just couldn't bring myself to get into the book either for some reason. I think the pacing of it all just didn't work for me, I really thought we would see more of Cabel and Bell on the book tour. Also I don't think any of their growth was built up to really, like they just banter and then they're having sex and then they're in love. I know they shared stuff about thier pasts but that just didn't feel like enough to make me root for them at all. The story just felt flat and I couldn't care less also the dirty talking wasn't very good either and I just think more time could've been put into developing the relationship or growth and less into banter, sex, and people just being funny or random or whatever the author felt she was making her characters do. There's also a fine line between an honest or blunt person and a vulgar one.

Also I felt like I was reading someone's Twilight AU fanfiction with the names changed slightly, like Bellamy? And Caleb's reddish hair and granite face? Just the writing in general especially the sex scenes. This book just wasn't for me, sorry.

Copy from K M Galvin via Netgalley for fair review.

"Light golden skin is stretched tightly over his muscles, and even though he is wearing a loose work out tank and track pants, I can tell he’s hard all over. I can tell because that’s how I wrote him. I’ve known him for almost ten years now."

Okay, this book was stinking cute. To be honest, as soon as I read the synopsis I was like eeeek yay. Bellamy Strong is a successful writer and is setting out on a tour for her series for the first time. Her publishers decide that along with book signings they would have her star as the heroine and find a model that looks like the hero of her book for the tour. Shy Bellamy has to deal with her expectations of her come to life hero and how to get out of the shell she has built around herself and grow.

The idea of the story was stellar. The entire time I pictured someone like SJM getting to go on tour with a Rhysand look alike. *The most beautiful man she’s ever seen* Gosh, just the idea is swoon worthy. Can I please have a three month tour with a hottie of my making by my side? I loved that the book boyfriend was nothing like the character that Bellamy had imagined and in fact had his own personality.

Caleb, the guy who is hired to model as the character Max is a hottie & the sexual tension that builds between him and Bellamy is hot. I love that they didn’t hit it off and have to be friends before they can even move onto romance. The initial hotness of course is scoured as soon as he opens his mouth. But it’s not until they are forced to sit in a car together for the lengthy road trip that they get along by some sort of peace treaty.

One of my qualms with the story is that their relationships progressed rather quickly so there was a slight lull in the middle. Luckily, the last 20% skim by really fast, and not in the ‘well that ended abruptly’ sort of way. In a, eek, this is hot, flip flip flip, awwwww, flip flip flip, ending. And though it ended the way I anticipated it ending, it was still rather sweet.

My other qualm with the story was the lack of bickering. I would expect that spending nearly every minute with the same set of 4 people would cause some sort of animosity. Instead, the characters just grew closer and closer. But really, even with the people I most adore, you have to have some personal space. I would have liked it a little bit better if tempers rose and people got a little tired of being with each other. It would have seemed a little more realistic.

Ein Satz mit X…. das war wohl nix.
Zumindest nichts was mich wirklich überzeugen konnte.

First of all, how cool is the heroine’s name? Bellamy Granger Strong! Hell yeah!

Bellamy is definitely the only heroine I’d completely connected with. She’s a girl who’s struggling with anxiety. She has only one friend and two imaginary characters she wrote about who helped her get through the lonely days. This girl was lonely. She felt like no one was understanding her, she had really deep fears of going out in public and doing „social activities”. However, we see her blossoming. Slowly, she learns to do what she wants not caring about the others. She learns to let go of old things. She learns to be herself. I was so proud of her, of how strong she was. Nothing was holding her back. Bellamy is definitely my all time favorite heroine and I love how the author wrote everything from her point of view. Her emotional development is obvious and at the end of the book, we get a Bellamy who is proud of her roots, one who is ready fora new beginning.

Caleb was a character I never thought I’d get to love this much. First glimpse we get of him is a really mean and asshole-y version of him. I seriously thought „how the hell will I like this guy?”. And guess what? I freaking adore him! Once you look into him, once you see him through Bellamy’s eyes, once you learn about him you fucking love him! I admired him so much. He was also a struggling man. One who despite all his looks, all his money, all his praise, at the end of the day he was lonely too. He was used to people looking at him and seeing somebody else. He was..scared to follow his dreams, scared of what others might think of him. Even his best friend had moments when he didn’t understand Caleb or judged him.

We get to see two persons who get really close, who support each other and inspire each other to be who and what they want to be. After all those years of pretending, they’re finally ready to be who they’ve always dreamed to be.

I liked how Bellamy didn’t make Caleb apologize when he came back to her. She was upset and hurt but in the end she understood that he needed time. Just like she needed time after she left for college. I seriously cried my ass off when she goes back home. I don’t know, maybe because I’ve been away for a long time too and just like Bellamy, I don’t have a deep connection with my parents. It was really sweet and heart-warming to see how her parents welcomed her back.

This book woke a lot of feelings inside of me. These two characters were more than just two fictional persons from a book. I felt like I knew them all along. And it was lovely to ride with them. Give this a try! You won’t regret it.

I read the author’s ending note and being my first read of her/him, I have to say I was really impressed. Guess what, author? You fucking did it!

Netgalley copy in exchange for an honest review.

Aaaaah, I'm a happy gal right now!

I really loved this book: it was a great combination of relatable characters, interesting story and nice and sweet idea. I really love Bellamy: I found her brave, entertaining and incredibly funny, even when life gets hard and harder. And her voice was very real, and one of the best I've read in a long time, in my opinion. It was like having a best friend on the paper (can we be best friends?).

Her relationship with Caleb was so good, too! They get right under each other's skin, for all the right reasons! Their chemistry felt real and was fun, funny and so greatly crafted I could not put the book down (I read it in one sitting).

It was a sweet book, just what you need as spring is on us, about a real girl like we all are and her story as she grows more confident into her own skin, and we need more feel-good books like this one!

**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book.**

A cocky male model breaks an insecure author out of her shell.

Bellamy's life is far from ordinary. She's in her mid-twenties and already a published author several times over. Her hermit lifestyle has lent well to her job, giving her a safe place to write about stories featuring her dream couple. But all that is about to change because her agent wants Bell to participate in a worldwide book tour and there's a pretty big catch...

Caleb just found himself hired to play the lead character of a book series. He'll be traveling alongside the author during her book signings and other stops. He will be the male lead and Bell is his female counterpart. Unfortunately, he hates his job and knows this one won't be any different. It's just another gig pretending to be someone he isn't.

The pair get off to a rough start due to Caleb's bad attitude and Bell's inability to remember that Caleb isn't really her book character, Max. But when they realize they're stuck with one another, they try to make the best of it. Forming a pact, the couple grow closer and develop a comradery that helps them to cope with their troubles and overcome them together. Sparks fly and soon the friendship turns into something stronger. But when the tour nears its end, the two have some big decisions to make.

This was a pretty great book with a good plot. I loved the idea of reading about an author traveling around and meeting her fans. The fact that she would be accompanied by the live version of her beloved male lead character was a nice touch, too. And Caleb was a hoot at the beginning. Such a grumpy dude and I laughed quite a bit at his and Bellamy's bickering. Their arguing continued throughout and provided quite a bit of humor to the mix.

The romance between our couple is slow brewing and fun to watch. There is a strong friendship as a foundation and makes their transition to lovers smooth and believable. The love scenes were hot and plentiful. There was even an entertaining trip to a strip club that I wasn't expecting. In all, I found the romance to be entirely fulfilling. *wink*

My reason for deducting a half-sun is due to the typos that I encountered. I can handle the occasional blunder and actually expect to find errors. Some of these were the usual grammar mistakes. However, I did come across a few that made me stop reading to think. For example, Caleb's hair is described as a very dark auburn in the beginning, but then the author mentions Caleb's "light" hair later on. This mistake confused me and took me out of the story until I realized I wasn't remembering things wrong and it was a writing oops. This book could use another proofreading pass.

In closing...
A fun read with a colorful cast of characters. 4.5 suns!

ARC generously provided via netgalley in exchange for an honest review

3.5 sweet stars

Beauty and the Book Boyfriend is the story of author Bellamy, an anxiety ridden, anti-social book nerd, whose characters in her now infamous series are her best friends. Weird right? She is a little weird, but her quirkiness is endearing and she is hard not to love!

Bellamy is stuck doing a book tour with the jerk who is a model and the face for her main character. Whose first meeting I have to admit was quite humorous. Something I could totally see happening in real life. When they are thrown together an unlikely friendship emerges!!

Caleb appears to be everything Bellamy isn't. He is drop dead gorgeous, arrogant, speaks whatever thought crosses his mind, and is afraid of nothing. However, appearances are deceiving and there is definitely more than meets the eye when it comes to Caleb. Oh.... and that dirty mouth... swoon! His bad attitude in the beginning is childish and annoyingly funny. Caleb being mean, Caleb being honest, and Caleb being sweet are all equally endearing.

I thought Beauty and the Book Boyfriend was an entertaining, light, and quick read. I loved Natalie and Logan, the respective best friends, and their story that mingles with Caleb and Bellamy.

I loved to see both the characters growth and development throughout the story as they each really learn more about themselves. I love how strong and self assured Bellamy is at the end! She is a great heroine!

So why not 5 stars? I felt like the relationship between Bellamy and Caleb was a little rushed. I felt connected to them and loved their story, but I wanted more development. Logan and Natalie's story was great and added some funny moments, but I felt as if their story was told with so much detail it took away from Caleb and Bellamy. I wanted to go deeper with the main characters.

Also, the writing was a little awkward for me. The flow of sentences and word choices at times was distracting. However, I did read an ARC so there is a good possibility this was corrected before the final published copy.

Overall I would recommend this book to anyone looking for that light, quick, and entertaining read! This would be the perfect beach read!

Okay, I wasn't sure what to expect going in to this, but I was so in the mood for this because I loved the synopsis. I hadn't been reading this long before falling completely in love with it.
I completely connected with Bellamy who suffers from anxiety, and I just got her as a character. I rooted for her and I loved her. I loved watching her overcome her fears and face everything and slowly start to change and grow as a person. She learns to do so much that she hasn't before and I was so proud of her and excited for her. I just loved her emotional development over the course of the book. Plus she made me cackle more than once with her one liners to Caleb.

Ah Caleb. I loved Caleb too. I was a bit like okay...don't like you in the beginning. I wasn't sure he could be pulled back. But it wasn't long before I freaking loved him. I seriously loved him, and we get to see him in a completely different light from how we saw him in the beginning and I really grew to love him the more I saw him through Bellamy. I thought he had a really nice depth to him that not a lot of love interests get in books. Sure he was pretty to look at, but he had his own struggles. He's intelligent but because he's a model people assume he's one thing and don't see the real him. He's just as lonely as Bellamy.

I loved watching Bellamy and Caleb become friends, and get closer and closer and then their relationship. They where really there for each other, and supported each other and looked out for each other. I just loved them together, they where cute and they gave me serious warm and fuzzies and they made me laugh too!

There where a couple of scenes that weren't in there because there was quite a fast pace going on, that I would have liked to see just because more warm and fuzzies!

Beauty and the Book Boyfriend is a fantastically fun read, with relatable characters, and fun and familiar settings for me! As an avid book reader, I've gone to my fair share of book events and signings, so I loved the combination of the familiar and the fun!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

While I've read a lot of Beauty and the Beast retellings (hell, I've read three in the past week), I think this may have been one of my favorites. The characters were so well-written, and the story was incredibly innovative. I loved how flawed and real the main characters felt, and enjoyed the banter between them. I really enjoyed this book, and definitely recommend it to contemporary romance fans and fairy-tale fans alike.

This has to be one of the most amazing books written that has to do with a condition and how not only one, but two people overcome the condition to pursue their dreams. Coming from someone who suffers from severe anxiety, I learned a lot and I was inspired to become who I really wanna be.

I felt really connected with Bellamy and it was like I knew her all along. Bellamy is a young girl who loves to write stories, but is hiding behind her anxiety. She goes on the road with at first grumpy mean Caleb to promote her last book in her paranormal series. She was very lonely with only one friend and two others that she created. Her biggest fear was going out in public and be social with others. Caleb also has a past and is going through his own struggles as a person. As the story goes on, they both grow on each other and Caleb becomes really comforting while Bellamy has her panic attacks. These two characters help each other over come their fears and become who they were truly meant to be in this world. I loved this book and hope there is more to come from this author!

What a hilarious book. The characters in this book were just so much fun to get to know. They were like peeling the layers of an onion, a little at a time, and a whole new dimension came to you about them. You never knew what you would get and that made you want to keep reading. A few tears, or a lot of laughs all good in the end.
Each character was unique in the way they acted yet they were home and familiar if that makes sense. You see the story revolves around the author of a book series that is coming to an end. She started it when she was in high school and a very awkward teen and now she is just an awkward adult. But unknown to her, on her birthday, when she was drunk, she signed a contract saying that at the end of the last book coming out her, Bellamy Stone, would do a book tour as her character.
She wouldn’t mind that too much in general because of the fact that her character is kickass and brave. But she also looks like a rocker chick in black skin tight leather, black goth makeup, blown-out hair, and a lowcut top showing cleavage. So, not her. For most of that might not seem like a lot but for Bell who has not shown herself and stayed out of the limelight it is a panic attack waiting to happen.
So, she has to meet with the roommate, best friend, and assistant Nat Porter to go over her options. Nat tells her she has none. She also tells her she has to stop drunk signing. Bell is not laughing. Nat says she will have to take the trip and it will be good for them to take the road trip to meet her devoted fans. Plus, it will give her time to cozy up to the model counterpart of the character she wrote as her lead male Max.
Let the meltdown begin. She is just outraged. How could they possibly find someone she made-up? None the less not include her in the process. Nat says, “Her trusted fan base picked the guy that not only looked spot on but, acted, and spoke like Max the character does. She doesn’t believe it.
Until she literally runs into him, Caleb Pace, he mistakes her for an awestruck stalker fan and is rude to her. Now pissed. Then, she is more pissed after a Beauty transformation and they meet to go on the trip and he acts like he doesn’t know her and he is traveling with Logan his own personal assistant. Really?! She thinks…why? When he starts capping on her she says, “You’re just the eye candy why do you need an assistant?”
Caleb has his own ghost in his closet to contend with and Bell is just the girl to stir up every messy emotion that will bring them to the surface. Yet, at the same time, she brings out the protector in him as well as all his old insecurities. It becomes a toss-up as to who has the most issues to resolve or who can be the rudest. But before you know it these two have set up their own set of rules to get through the drive.
From the minute the door closes on the SUV, it’s on. The kid gloves are off and these two have the fight to settle. Who will win? Or will it be a draw? You will have to read to find out. Just know you won’t be disappointed. I give this book 5 ++++ stars.

Bellamy/Bell had severe social anxiety. It started in H S as she was a very awkward teen and ended up a very awkward adult. It didn’t help that Bell’s parents had been prom king and queen and were very social people Bell felt no one was understanding of her problems she had deep fears going out in public and doing social things. Bell has one best friend Nate and two imaginary characters as her friends. As a way to cope with her loneliness she writes about her alter ego Makyla who is a vampire slayer. This turns Bell into a best selling author. Bell got drunk on her birthday and ended up signing a contract that she would go on a book tour. So Bell meets with Nate who is her roommate, best friend, and assistant. But Nate tells Bell there is nothing she can do she has to go on the book tour. Nate will go on the book tour with Bell and Nate points out it would be good for Bell to meet her fans. It is to be a three month tour and the publishers came up with the idea Bell will pose as Makyla and a model will be picked by the fans that they feel best portrays Max the hero of the series. Then the fans get it right Caleb looks, acts, and speaks like Max. Caleb hates his job and he has to pretend he is someone he isn’t. Even though Caleb has looks. money, and praise Caleb is still a lonely man. Caleb was used to people seeing him as someone else . He was to scared to follow his dream. Scared of what people may think of him. Caleb is intelligent but people only take him for his looks. Caleb was a butt at first bad Bell was rude right back. But as time goes on they become friends then lovers. Logan is Caleb’s personal assistant and will be traveling with them also. Bell learns to see the real Caleb and he helps Bell get past her social anxiety and let go of the old things and be herself. Bell learns to do what she wants and not care about what others think.
I really loved this book. But there were mistakes that were a little difficult to overlook like one time Caleb's hair is described as being dark auburn then another it is mentioned about his light hair. It can be a little confusing but I got past it. This book had a good plot and I liked the pace. I loved that Caleb and Bell didn’t jump right into a sexual relationship and love but first their relationship was a little rocky became friends and it went from there.to lovers. It was more realistic that way. At times I choked up while reading this book and at others I chuckled. I loved how Caleb and Bell worked on their issues together . I liked the characters in this book a lot as well as the ins and outs and I recommend.

Netgalley gave me a copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.

Bellamy's character is relatable to some people where she sees book characters as being real and her own little world and how it is so common for introverted people to read books and not explore the world around them.

She progresses towards the end of the book being more confident. I find the bucket list emphasises this when this is added in. Maybe she wouldn't have done everything on the bucket list without caleb with her Anxiety and overthinking.

I love the quote in the book about overthinking, I find this very relatable:
"My guess would be acknowledging your feelings; ask yourself if you have any control of the situation. If you do, then do something and stop worrying. If you don't, then stop worrying because whatever happens is going to whether you stress about it or not."

I expected bellamy to fall for caleb as he looks like her dream guy that she made up from her book, how great is that to see your dream guy in real life?

I really liked that bellamy and caleb weren't friends at first and didn't get on with each other as their opposite personalities clashed.

Bellamy, her best friend, Caleb and his manager were all living in each others pockets you'd think that they'd argue a bit more. Even Bellamy and l her best friend didn't really have an argument after living with each other for months on the book tour and being her manager they wouldn't have agreed on everything.

The odds of her best friend falling for the models manager/best friend too and all being around the same age. It wouldn't really happen where both best friends liked the other best friends in the group with it being just the four of them.

I was pulled in right away, and I could not get enough!
The back and forth banter was so much fun and had me laughing from the start.

I loved how I could relate to the main character Bellamy. How she is shy and scared to step out of her comfort zone, anxiety ridden, but with one drunken night everything changes. In her drunken state she signed her self up for a book tour to promote her last book in her mega series; Makyla & Max - as a kid Bell did not fit into the world she was born into, with a her mother being prom queen and her father prom king it was like a barbie and ken world and she was the quite, meek girl who wrote adventures about two friends who conquer the world together. Makyla and Max become Bell’s friends in the time she has no real ones.
Through out the book you will see how Bell overcomes and breaks out of her shell, with the help of her real life Max (Caleb).

Caleb’s has a stand off-ish vibe, the jerk at first glance and he plays into it well, with years of practice. Trying to work through his own struggles, he takes it upon himself to help his new (boss AKA Bell) as the model for her book series during her book tour. He helps pull Bell out of her shell and in the process you fall in love with him.

This adorable love story makes me wish it was my own.

Plus Natalie & Logan are an added bonus of laughs and love. The both help enrich the story and keep things fun.

Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read this book!

Very fun, sweet story. Bellamy has always seen herself as weird, so much that she created a friends and world to keep her company, she turned them into a series of books. She and her best friend set off on a book tour, one glitch, she is joined by Caleb, the model for Max the hero of her books. Bell sees Caleb as a shallow pretty boy, she struggles to play Makyla to Caleb's Max, the couple in her books, Caleb rubs her the wrong way. As the trip continues their best friends quickly get together leaving Caleb and Bell as a couple. She wants to fight her feelings for him but Caleb turns out the be a lot more thoughtful than his persona would lead you to believe.
I enjoyed the story, Caleb drew me in quickly with his sense of humor. Bellamy took a little longer because she seemed to be walled off, slowly it was chipped away. I enjoyed the word play between Bell and Caleb as well as the humor through out the book.

Right from the beginning I was sucked in and could not get enough of this book! Bell and Caleb have the most amusing banter and I love how much I could really relate to Bellamy, she is so shy and afraid to be out of her comfort zone. And even though Caleb starts out being a Grade A Jerk off, I actually grew very fond of him and how he takes it upon himself to bring Bell out of her comfort zone.

Such a good love story and I’m looking forward to reading more from K.M. Galvin, since I have seen she has more books out there that I never knew existed!

I'm a sucker for fairy tale re-tellings - even if they are very loosely based. Beauty and the Book Boyfriend is one of those loosely based on the story of Beauty and the Beast. What I found kind of great was that Bellamy aka Bella (aka beauty) took the traits of both Beauty AND the Beast as does Caleb.

This book was a lot longer in length than I expected, but it flowed smoothly. The reader is given enough time to really enjoy and appreciate the characters and their growth. I love when you get to see characters actually evolve.

Bellamy is an anxious and lonely girl who grew up to be an anxious and semi lonely woman who writes a best-selling series. It's finally time for her to tour and she, drunkenly, agrees to tour with a model who looks like her book's love interest. When Bellamy first meets Caleb - it's confusion at first sight (because he really looks like what she envisions her leading man to look like), and then hate at second sight. Unfortunately, Caleb seems to be an arrogant and petulant man. Bellamy has to get over it, however, because she's playing the role of Makyla, the lead character of her books. Yay.

Aside from the awesome character development, what I thought was truly the best part of this book was the care taken with Bellamy's anxiety problems. The author did not gloss over Bellamy having an anxiety problem, or didn't make it disappear easily. Bellamy's anxiety evolved just as she did. And how much did I love that Caleb tried to understand and, therefore, helped her with that anxiety? A LOT.

This is a great love story that showcases character growth - major plus for the inclusion and understanding of anxiety in the lead character's part!

Anxiety-ridden reclusive writer is stuck on a multi-city book tour with the male model her agent hired to play her lead male character. They hate each other and then become tentative friends and then besties and then lovers etc.

There was not as much drama as I anticipated which was disappointing. Understanding more about the relationship with her parents would have been nice. We're told, but we don't experience it and there were a few places where the book would have better if we had the experiences with the character.

There were too many typos and errors to not say something... it needed a good proofreader.

Beauty and the Book Boyfriend, K.M. Galvin

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Romance, General fiction

A book about and author and her books....interesting I thought. Well, it was...and it wasn't.

The idea was interesting, Bell and her friend/PA are on a tour promoting the final book in the series, and painfully self-conscious, publicity avoiding Bell has to dress up as the book heroine Mykala, while they bring in a model dressed as Max, along with his PA to accompany her.
Road tour with people who've never met but are spending the next two months in very close proximity, could be fun, could be a disaster.

I had issues with Bell, I get she's self conscious but she doesn't always act like it, appearing brash and over confident sometimes and at other times its causing her to have panic attacks.
She's kind of rude too, to Caleb. Fair enough at first meeting he was a jerk and deserved it, but she continues even while they've formed a friendship.

I just wasn't convinced of the enemies to freinds to lovers and maybe more in their story. I'm not really sure why though, I can't quite work out what it is that stops me believing in them but something does. I think the real crux is that I wasn't keen on any of the characters that much, I just didn't really get a feel for them as real people, and that's so important to me.

It'll be a perfect read for others of course, and I'm glad for them. We all look for different things and though this one wasn't for me it was well written and I'd be happy to try another by this author.

Stars: Two, sadly not one for me.

Reclusive author Bellamy Strong has lived vicariously through Makyla, her protagonist, for as long as she's been writing. While Bellamy suffers from severe social anxiety and panic attacks, Makyla isn't afraid to put herself out there. She's strong. She's cool. She's got a super-sexy love interest. And apparently, though she has no recollection of it, Bellamy has agreed to dress as Makyla and tour the country with a male model that looks just like Max, Makyla's love interest.

When Bellamy meets Caleb, the model hired to play Max, she can hardly speak. Even setting aside her social anxiety, she just has no idea what to do when she comes face-to-face with the man she dreamed up years ago. Caleb is Max. Then he opens his mouth. And Caleb is a jerk.

...Or is he? As Caleb and Bellamy drive across the country (accompanied by their assistants/best friends), they start to learn more about each other and form a tentative friendship. Soon, the two are inseparable. They're best friends. But what happens when feelings inevitably get involved?

Alright, so I picked this one up from Netgalley because I was intrigued by the premise. I mean, an author that has to cosplay her protagonist with a male model playing the love interest? It was either going to be great or it was going to be horrible, but either way, I wanted to read it. Surprisingly, it was neither great nor horrible. It was just somewhere in the middle.

The plot was interesting and nothing I've ever read before, although I'm not quite sure I fully believed in the premise. Surely there would be an issue with a contract that was signed under the influence? Surely if Bellamy had really put her foot down, they couldn't have required her to do the whole cosplay thing. If they could get a model to portray Max, I don't see why they couldn't get a model to portray Makyla. But regardless, I set that aside (or at least tried to) as I settled into the book.

Obviously, Bellamy and Caleb get off on the wrong foot. Caleb thinks that Bellamy is some sort of drooling fangirl and brushes her off. Bellamy is offended by Caleb's brush off and her social anxiety seems to fade away as she puts him in his place time and time again. (Arguably much more often than he deserves, but I guess that was their dynamic.) But then, suddenly, the two are bantering like old friends. Then they decide that they're best friends. Then they're making out and having sex and it all just seems to happen so fast. Like I could've blinked and missed the transition from absolutely despising each other to being head-over-heels in love.

I think that the point I'm trying to make is that the characters weren't consistent, which is probably my biggest complaint with this book. Is Bellamy a reclusive author who has panic attacks when she has to go into public or is she a feisty sex kitten who isn't afraid to go after what she wants? I couldn't tell, and at times, it felt like I was reading about two different people. Similarly, is Caleb a total jerk who hates his job or is he a sensitive, misunderstood teddy bear? The world may never know.

This review probably makes it sound like I disliked this book, and for that, I apologize. I actually really enjoyed this book and had a lot of fun while reading it. It was only after I finished that I really started thinking about what had happened and trying to piece these characters together. This is a really quick read that kept me interested and had me laughing out loud in almost every chapter. There were some issues with editing that I'm sure will be fixed in the final copy, and I'm sure that a lot of readers will be able to see past my criticisms and will love this book.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC!

Beauty and the Book Boyfriend by KM Galvin was released on March 28, 2017. I heard a lot about this book leading up to the release, both positive and negative. Hearing all about this book made me wonder and I had to find out for myself. The story is about Bell who is an author that is very self conscious and avoids the publicity all while not having any friends. She goes on book tour as the main character in her book along with the book boyfriend that her fans voted for. I found this book to be an ok read. I felt that the points of view kept changing so much that I could not keep up at times. The characters could use more back story to add more depth. While I understand that some readers really liked this book, I have to say I am not one of them. I am willing to read more works from this author. **I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.**

I wish my book boyfriend was real..
description

Bellamy Strong's wish was coming true. She came face to face with the man she wrote about. This was such a great read for book lovers. If you have ever had a book boyfriend, then this book if for you. And it's from an author's perspective. It focused on the struggles between fantasy and reality. If you met your dream book boyfriend, would you be able to love the man or the character? Beauty and the Book Boyfriend was romantic, vulnerable, and full of self discovery.

Bellamy Strong was a closed off person. She didn't have much of a social life with more book friends than most. Anxiety was a big challenge in her life that could be triggered at any given moment. She wasn't really living the life she wanted, but was about to be forced out of her comfort zone. A book tour where she had to dress up as her main character was about to start. And the best part was that her book boyfriend was about to become a reality. Could this model live up to her expectations?

Caleb "whatever his last name is" was SMOKING HOT. He is a model so it's impossible not to notice his good looks. He just booked a gig as "Max". He has to accompany Bellamy on her book tour and play her main character Max. Things get off to a rocky, but they are their best friends will be in 1 car together for the next few months. What could go wrong?

A "shy nerd" and a sexy model don't sound like a perfect match. Things get interesting when Bellamy and Caleb make a truce. They make a pact to challenge each other to step out of their comfort zones. Boundaries are crossed, buttons are pushed, and the chemistry just gets magnified. The way these two learn to open up and go after what they want is magical. K.M. Galvin shows how no matter how you look insecurities can always be present. Bellamy and Caleb have to deal with new developing feelings, their own insecurities, and being on the road together. Are these two opposites good for each other? Can they make each other see the good in themselves?

Perfect read for every reader who has ever had a book boyfriend.

3.5 stars
I really wanted to give this book the whole 4 stars but I couldn't move aside a few things I didn't like about this book.

First I will star with what I liked I loved the idea of the author becoming the leading girl of her books. I found that Idea very unique. I love the romance comedy side of this story. I loved our female lead before she meet or I should say fell for the male lead.

What I didn't like was how our female lead change after she started dating the male lead. She used to be this fiesty ball of fire when you messed with her but who was also this shy girl. I just liked her personality more before.
Also the male lead wasn't of my liking. He was such a cocky douchebag that when he started dating our lead girl I couldn't move aside my disliking him.

But if I could of moved my disliking of those few things aside I would of given this book a 4 stars.

Beauty and the book boyfriend

This is an adorable little fluffy story about Bellamey the reclusive best selling author who has major social anxiety. But she's being forced by her publistist to go on a extended book tour. And to make matters worse they hire a model to go with her and pose as the hero and lover of her character. Enter Caleb. At first you meet me you think hes a superfical model who is a major jerk. But as Belle gets to know him she finds out there's much more then meets the eye. He helps her be more confident and secure and she in turn helps him turn his own life around. This story is adorable but its not a YA book there is sex and that one scene!!! Whew! I try enjoyed this story and am curious to see what else this author has brought out.. 5 adorable stars from this gal.. If your looking for a feel good bit of naughty and a lot of good feels check out beauty and the beast <3

A road trip fantasy with love hookups. There was a lot of stuff that easily could've put me off, such as the impossibleness of the situations and characters -- I know that is HUGE!, but I rolled with it to meet my obligation to review for NetGalley and kept reading in hopes that it got better. Clearly, K.M. likes her banter snappy and she tried to bring in some emotional heft, but the e-arc I read was littered with typos and a better editor may tell her to not try so hard <-- that sometimes a softer touch creates a more mature read. Now, when I mean mature, I do not mean that she'd skew it older than the New Adult crowd this may be targeted at. I mean, a smoother and more emotionally resonant story that'd score higher ratings. Overall, I've read worse and this semi-entertained.
