St. Henry. Cindy Myran (37) who lived in the apartment complex went missding. She was a alcoholic & a illegal drug abuser.
She of course was presumed dead.

Vera was the mgr. of the EarthWay grocery store/cafe.
Other employees are: Ian Phillips (narrator, register), Rob (food line) & Casey (food line).
Meremac South HS students packed the place after a Friday night game.
Back-up, Cindy had asked Ian for $50.00 to take a bus to Bradson City. He knew better than that.
Later Cindy’s body was found in the woods down by Hoppersand Lake.
1 day Detective Tony Galarza (SHCPD) came to interview Ian.
Amy & Ian were going out.

She was helping him do his own investigation on Cindy’s murder.
News flash: The Bradson City Gazette headline read Brian Newstead (husband, millionaire, CEO, jet engine corporation) was Arrested on Fraud Charges.
He was later murdered.
Gabrielle Romero-Newstead wife, wealthy) was in mourning.
Jonathan Chambet (Cindy’s off/on BF) arrested & put in jail for possession of narcotics.
Vera promoted Ian asst. mgr. of the EarthWay Café.

Will the murder mystery's get solved?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written who-dun-it murder mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great who-dun-it murder mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

This book is more of a Novella, short. And I enjoyed it mostly, and would read other books for this author, who writes well.

That having been said, there were some objections that I had to the book/ novella, that I cannot write in the review without spoiling the book for other readers. This, however, I can write. The main character, Ian Phillips, is a likeable guy and a conscientious one. But when it came time to
tell the police what he knew, he did not do it. And he admits in the book that he will be criticized for this, but oh well. The fact is that if the characters did what they were supposed to do...well usually the story would fall flat. Most stories rely on the reader thinking, 'No! Don't do that! Don't go there! Look behind you!' So I don't blame him for his failure to cooperate with the guys in blue.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

I enjoyed this book very much. The story drew me in immediately and the characters were fascinating. I liked that the main character was a man of faith as it was so interesting to see the seedier side of the city through his eyes. A mystery within a mystery where the solution to one is sewn up nicely while the other is left to interpretation - or maybe a second book in a series. well written and a good read.

Another great book from Robert Lampros. Even though I am a Christian, I do not particularly like to read Christian books. However, Lampros' books are not "in-your-face" Christiany. This particular book is about Ian. Ian gets caught up in dangerous activity due to the strange death of one of his neighbors.. She just happened to die mere hours after she showed up at his home asking for help. During all of this, Ian, finds love in an odd place. He struggles through finding out Cindy's murderer, dealing with being followed, and falling in love with the help of God.

I actually wish there were more to the book. It seemed to end rather quickly, and definitely left me wanting to know more about Ian and Amy, and Cindy's death.

Check out the book!! I am 100% sure you will love it, too!

Cindy Myran is causing Ian Philips more problems dead than when she was alive. During Ian’s quest to free him from suspicion, strange things keep happening that lead the police and thugs back to him. The author does a fine job of throwing some twists and shady deals into the mix. There is slight mixture of faith and the supernatural woven throughout the plot. Overall, it was a decent fast read.

LibraryThing Member Giveaway randomly chose me to receive this book free from the author. Although encouraged, I was under no obligation to write a review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

STORY-LINE SOFT ON THE DEVIL:

In Soft On The Devil by author Robert Lampros, the reader finds a twisted tale of murder, mystery, and corruption. Christian Ian Phillips finds his neighbor, Cindy Myran outside his door, on the run, and needing help. A week later she is dead. Who killed party girl and druggie Cindy and why? Running from criminals, watching his back, and trying to solve the murder of Cindy, Ian's world has taken on a life of its own.

Grab a seat, my Christian mystery suspense novel review of Soft On The Devil follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Although not my cup of tea, I found the author included everything needed to craft a successful novel. With varied character and clean writing, the right audience will like this mystery suspense thriller novel.

Author Lampros included twists and turns in his plot lines. I did not put the pieces together even though Lampros dropped hints along the way. Also, Lampros included scripture Ian used to guide his life, however he did not push religion on the reader.

In concluding my Christian mystery suspense novel review of Soft On The Devil, I found a solid story-line with clean characters and an original premise. I found the pace slow at times, which picked up as I read. I also felt the premise at the ending needed more development. Over all, the right audience will find this book an entertaining and enjoyable novel. Although this story has romance, I found Soft On The Devil a clean read.

SOFT ON THE DEVIL RECOMMENDATION: STARS: 3

In addition, I found this book suitable for young adults and adults.

FINALLY, PLEASE NOTE:

Additionally, I received this book from the author and chose to voluntarily review the book with an honest Christian mystery novel/book review. Lastly, book reviews of any novel are dependent on the book review author’s opinion. Consequently, all book reviews on-line and on my blog, are my opinions. In addition, the ARC did not affect my Christian mystery novel/book review.

Ian Phillips is an ordinary kind of guy, at twenty-four he works in the local Earth Way grocery store. He is very keen on promoting the good quality merchandise. He works hard and gets a promotion. Things are looking up when he meets Amy and a relationship blooms.

All this is a backdrop to his deep faith, reading the bible daily, and trying to figure out what happened to Cindy Myran, a woman who lived in his apartment block who disappeared. Everyone thinks she’s dead. Ian wasn't so sure. She turns up at his place, afraid of being followed and asking for help to get to Bradson City. She was supposed to be dead already. Was this his hallucination? He had to find out more.

This is an unusual tale, all in the first person. I find it difficult to write in the first person. There is always something I want the reader to see that's in the next person's point of view. Robert Lampros has pulled this off admirably. I have to say I expected a different outcome but the ending was fitting.

Want be drawn into a story? This quick read will deliver. Want closure before you see "end of story"? Look elsewhere, the ending is anti-climactic. We do not get resolution, a pet peeve of mine.

However, I rated this tome 5 stars. It delivers on all fronts; it's interesting, suspenseful, has ghosts, a love story, murder, an investigation, and it's share of both positive and despicable characters.

I had never read a mystery by a faith based author and was very pleasantly surprised. Mr. Lampros referred to scripture and religious subject matter, but not too much and it added to the story rather than detracted from it. I thought it was a great story about a woman who went missing and was presumed dead. The writing was engaging and did an excellent job of keeping my attention. It was a very fast read and a great plot. I'd recommend it and definitely check out other stuff by this author.

I won this novel/novella from Goodreads Giveaways.

Soft on the Devil (a great title and the main reason I entered to win this book) is a murder mystery with Christian overtones. I'm not a big fan of in-your-face Christianity in my fiction so I was pleasantly surprised to see that author Robert Lampros showed restraint and a deft enough touch that the religious aspects of the story weren't overwhelming.

The story centers around our main character, Ian Phillips. Outside of his devout Christianity, Ian is a pretty ordinary guy. I found myself liking Ian quite a bit. His little observations and asides about the Beatles sealed the deal. I'd like to see this character again.

Throughout the story, I kept having a little tickle in the back of my mind that there was something "off" with Ian as a character. At some point, I think I figured it out. As presented, Ian is a bundle of inconstancies and contradictions. In contrast to most fictional characters his age, he's a hard-worker at the local Earth Way grocery store who really cares about his job and the people he works with as well as his customers (to the point that it gets him in some serious trouble when he tries to help a woman who parks in the store's lot and stares into nothingness for hours). He's a sincere Christian who reads scripture daily and tries to live a pious life. At the same time, he's a bit of a punk. He drinks, has premarital sex and spent some time incarcerated for beating a dog with a baseball bat.

Somewhere along the way it occurred to me that Ian is much more like a real person than a fictional character. And though that sounds like the goal most authors would be trying to achieve with all of their characters, a truly "real" character offends the internal logic we expect from our fiction. Anti-heroes sketched in shades of gray are fine, we still know where we stand. A character like Ian, on-the-other-hand, with all their contradictions, leaves the reader unsure of their footing in the story. In this case, I found the novelty of that sensation to be refreshing and it ultimately added a lot to my enjoyment of this story, but I don't know how well that wears over the course of a longer piece.

I do feel that most of the flaws of the novel are attributable to it's length. 120 pages isn't much of a runway to get a plot off the ground. The main plot revolves around the disappearance/death of Ian's neighbor, Cindy Myran. A troubled woman who appears at Ian's door asking for money to travel to another town. Not long after, she vanishes and her body is found nearby. Ian refuses to believe she's truly dead and takes it upon himself to solve the case. The resolution to this plot is a bit murky and unsatisfying and the ending feels a little undercooked, but I think it just cleared the bar enough to make Soft on the Devil a successful effort. Four stars.

This book I won from goodreads. It was a mystery about an older middle-aged woman who was a drug addict as well as promiscuous. She has disappeared and reappears at the door of the narrator...except she is a ghost. The narrator is a young Christian man who works for an organic restaurant. The detective suspects him at first. The narrator tries to unravel the mystery to no avail although he is no longer a suspect. It was a quick read. I personally have not read anything by this author before but I love reading mysteries so I was game for reading this one. One thing I didn't like was the fact it was heavy on the Christian overtones. That's okay if you're a devout Christian...but asI am Jewish woman it really detracted from the main story in my humble opinion. I didn't really like the ending as it was rather abrupt and, as I mentioned before, the mystery wasn't solved which is rather unusual for the genre. You probably would like this mystery if you are a Christian...particularly if you are devout so I would more likely than not recommend it to that audience.

Lampros does an excellent job of keeping the reader engaged with this suspenseful tale of an unsolved murder. The book is properly categorized as faith-based although it is not overly heavy with scripture or religious subject matter. I would classify this a quick read that could easily be an episode in virtually any sci-fi or mystery series. Lampros' expressive writing is important to painting the vivid scenery and characters in his story. Overall I enjoyed this book but I question if it will remain a stand alone work or if it's just the tip of the iceberg.

I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway. This book quotes the Bible, a distractor for me, I was able to jump over the religious portions. The story itself was good, but a bit confusing at the end. The last two sentences were totally unnecessary and dropped my rating down a star.

This was an easy read book. I read it every morning and it just drew me in. The last third of the book I could of put down.
I would recommend this book to busy moms who just need some down time or just have the desire to read something while waiting on kids during any of their practice time.

Full Review at: Bright Copy Book Review

*This book was gifted to me by the author. The below review is my honest opinion*

This is a 'mystery novella' and was quite a short, easy read. Our main character, Ian, is a religious young man whose neighbor went missing. God has given him visions of Cindy (missing neighbor) and he takes it upon himself to solve the mystery of her murder after her body is found.

I'm sorry, I just did not like any aspect of this. I'm not religious, but I can still read about religion. This was just unbearable. It made no sense to have a very religious protagonist who drinks, has pre-marital sex, and beats a dog with a baseball bat. I also hated Ian; nothing about him made me care about his story. If anything, it made me hate every decision he made. Why did he need to find out who killed a girl that had nothing to do with him? Especially after the detective on the case told him to stay away from everything involving the murder. If he was so set on helping solve the murder, why would he lie to the cops in the first place? And how is all of this psycho babble related to what's actually happening with the super rich dude and Ian's high school and the dude's wife who sits in her car in the parking lot of Ian's work daily? It isn't!!! I just don't understand a whodunit that has no resolution at the end.

Nothing of this made sense to me. I hate ripping apart a book that an author gave to me in hopes that I would like it, but this just was not for me.

*WON A COPY FROM A GOODREADS GIVEAWAY*

What an interesting little novella. I was unsure how to feel at first because the epigraph is an excerpt from the Bible. I am not a religious person, and literature based on religious beliefs is usually a no-go for me (see my review for Children of Angels). It's just not my thing. But this one caught my attention and reeled me in quickly. I love a good murder mystery, and I quite enjoyed this one. Its religious connections are actually well thought out and placed in the best places within the story. Bonus: they connect to the context perfectly.
I was fascinated by the main character and his descriptions. Plus it is told from his point of view, which greatly adds to the emotion and suspense of the story as it progresses.
A downfall for me is pieces left unfinished. If any part of a plot line--the smallest of details--isn't completed by the author in some way, chances are high that I'll hate the book. I hate loose ends. But this is not one of those books; Robert Lampros tied up every little detail and character in his story into one big, beautiful bow. I love it.

I won a paperback copy of “Soft on The Devil” by Robert Lampros, on Goodreads.com and am posting an honest review. I gave it a rating of 3 stars.

This is a quick read about an earnest young man determined to find out what happened to a young woman living nearby who’s disappeared. Cindy Myran was an alcoholic and drug user, so most everyone assumes she’s dead as a result of her reckless lifestyle. Ian Phillips, however, has a strong feeling that she’s still alive.

Cindy appears at his door, asking for help and money to travel to another city. She vanishes and her body is found nearby. Ian Phillips’s life is driven by his strong faith and he’s determined to discover the truth about her disappearance. He feels bound to discover exactly what happened to her. All this while trying to maintain his job and deal with a new girlfriend. He seemingly has an encounter with a ghost, and has visions of Cindy as a younger girl.

The ending was strange and unexpected, leaving me scratching my head and wondering just what I’d read. A day later, I still don’t know what to make of this story.

If you mind having a lot of Scriptures tossed at you throughout the book, then you should bypass this short tale.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review on my blog, Of Books and Pen.

Final Thoughts:

I genuinely found this book to be upsetting, and it is so upsetting to me that my very first author-requested review is so negative, but I honestly don’t think I have anything positive to say. This book was only 134 pages long, something that should only have taken a couple of hours for me to read, took me two weeks to finish. I kept avoiding the book with anything and everything else that I had on hand to read because I found it so distressing to read. I was intrigued by the synopsis, and there were times where I thought the plot was about to get somewhat exciting, but that storyline ended up being completely ignored.

Rating(s):

1/5

I genuinely wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone. Maybe as an example of why it is so important to show your readers what is happening in your stories rather than telling them, but I don’t personally know anyone who would enjoy it. I found it boring, confusing, and overall just disappointing. It’s possible that this book could entertain someone, somewhere, but that person is not me.

I won this book from a giveaway, so thank you to those who made that possible. However, I did not enjoy this book. To be fair though, I'm not a fan of novellas usually, & didn't realize this was so short until receiving it. I still decided to read it & give it a chance, & I did try...but it wasn't my cup of tea. I can't blame it all on the author though. I'm not a religious person, and the constant references to the bible and god turned me off. Also, the placement of these constant bible references made no sense in the story. I'm sure some people would enjoy this story though, so please don't let me deter you from giving it a shot & forming your own opinion.

This was a nice little book. The way it's told is a little strange, but it's an okay story. It reads more like a short story than a novel, given it's only about 125 pages long. It's interesting but it lacks a little depth. Overall, I believe it was a nice book.
