What would you do to save the ones you love? In the aftermath of a war that sees the survivors of humanity flee to a remote corner of the galaxy, a force awakens deep underground with the ability to change the balance of power. The prize? Nothing less than planet Earth herself. In a group of genetically engineered children, we find our heroes. Cassiopeia and Caesar discover love, not only for each other, but for the very forces hell bent on destroying everything they hold dear. With the help of an Artificially Intelligent Computer, the Admirals daughter, and an ancient member of the very alien race they’ve been created to destroy, these unwitting weapons of war fight for the salvation of all. Rising like a Phoenix from the ashes of a burned-out world, it’s an all-out battle to Begin Anew.

Thank's to Richard Brant that I was able to read this e- book. Richard Brant has sent the book to me, when I asked if he is in need for a german Critic. I love sience fiction. Therefore it was an easy read.
I never read a book from a canadian writer. That was a new experience. The writing is not so different. Only the dialoges are sometimes strange. Not bad to read. Richard had written in the Prolog about help from a girl called Renee. I think she is younger, and therefore changed some of the dialoges into some young fresh versions.
In the end the book is worth reading. A good story and the red line is running straight from the beginning to the end. When the story moves on, the reader (me) thinks he knows whats coming next. And I was not surprised to found out that the story went realy in the way I thought it goes on.
The dialoges where good written. Reliable and fresh in the way of talking. I liked Renee most. She is the heart in the story. Her emotions, and her feelings kept the actors together.
The story is also new. It starts with a lost war on the side of the humans. Some alien race we do not know much about in the benning, is killing ninety percent of the human race. Thats on wich fits into the title. Beginn Anew. Richard had begun with a new start as well with a new set of main characters. Not the normal hero or the ultimate soldier. No, children, weak, hurt, allone and without a real family.
First I thoght it woild be a boring story. But no. Action and silent parts fitting together and building a funny and interesting story.

This was a fun and surprisingly different read! The story wasn't at all what I expected it to be, and the characters felt like actual people we got to know little by little as the story progressed. While I wasn't moved to tears nor did I bust my ribs laughing (my personal requirements for a five star rating), this book thoroughly entertained me, surprised me constantly with its plot twists, was easy and enjoyable to read, and even made me think about life a certain moments. Plus, I identified with Renee, a secondary character, which is rare. Usually only the main characters are developed enough to do so. Overall, this was a great read and one that I would definitely recommend!
Earth has been conquered by aliens and all of humanity's colonies are destroyed. The only remnants is a small science facility buried deep under the surface of earth and a fleet hiding in the stars waiting to come back.
The story follows the tale of genetically engineered half-human, half-alien children as they slowly come to realize their powers.
The book is a good read - well written and action packed. It would have been nice to set it up for a trilogy, but it stood alone very well.
*I got this book through GoodRead's Giveaways - an excellent source of interesting books!
I would like to thank Richard Brant for my free e-book "Begin Anew" in exchange for an honest review. Wow, this book starts with a crazy space battle. There's only few options for the human race. Let's hope they make the right one......years later Cassiopeia is hunting she's the last one of the group to make it back to shelter. Cassiopeia, Caesar and the other children look like adults and are stronger than humans. They have mixed DNA human and that of their enemy. They have been taught that they're humanity's last hope. They're "father" is a geneticist assigned to make them. "Mother" is an artificially intelligent computer. Upon the last fleet returning to earth, the children seek a way to avoid war. The losses would be to great for the humans or aliens. This book is full of action, adventure, suspense and drama. The lesson these children teach everyone is a lesson we could all use today. War is not always the answer. This is a great book and I definitely recommend it as a great read.
Well written, easy to read and gripping story. The pace was good, characters well portrayed and developed. Some spelling mistakes or words that had not been removed during the editing and revision process, but that had no negative impact on the overall book. Recommended for those who enjoy sci-fi.
