എഴുത്തിലെ മാന്ത്രികതയുടെ മാറ്റം അനുഭവിച്ചുതുടങ്ങിയത് എൻ എസിന്റെ ന്റെ കാലം മുതൽ ആണെന്ന് പറയാം, കഥയെ അതിന്റെ ഒരു കോണിൽ തളച്ചിടാതെ പല തട്ടിൽ നിന്നുള്ള വീക്ഷണങ്ങളും, അതാതു കാലത്തെ രാഷ്ട്രീയവും അത് അനുഭവിക്കുന്നവരുടെ വാക്കുകളിലൂടെ കൃത്യമായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കഥകളുമാണ്  എന്റെ പ്രീയപ്പെട്ട കഥകൾ.

ഒരു ഞെട്ടലോടെ മാത്രം അനുഭവിക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്ന 'ചൂളൈമേടിലെ  ശവങ്ങൾ'. ഫുട്ബോൾ  പ്രേമിയായ കൊളമ്പിയൻ ഗോളിയായ ഹിഗ്വറ്റയെ  ആരാധിച്ച ഒരു പാതിരി  അയാളുടെ ജീവിതത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ കിക്ക് ഒരു നാരദമന്റെ നെഞ്ചിൽ തീർക്കുന്നതും, 1984 ൽ ദില്ലിയെ വിറപ്പിച്ച സിഖ് കൂട്ടക്കൊലയുടെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിൽ എഴുതിയ വന്മരങ്ങൾ വീഴുമ്പോൾ,  അമേരിക്കൻ പട്ടാളം ഇറാക്കിൽ നടത്തിയ അധിനിവേശം ഒരു മുടിവെട്ടുകാരനിലൂടെ അവതരിപ്പിച്ച       'ഷുരകൻ', (സ്ക്രാപ് എടുക്കാനായി ഇറാഖിലേക്ക് പോകുന്ന രണ്ട് മലയാളി യുവാക്കളിലൂടെ അവതരിപ്പിച്ച  അസിയുടെ ക്യാപ് ക്രോപ്പറിന്റെ ഇടനാഴികൾ എന്ന നോവൽ  ഓർമ്മിച്ചു.) ബാബറി മസ്ജിദ് പൊളിച്ചതിന്റെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിൽ എഴുതിയ 'തിരുത്ത്'. 'ശർമ്മിഷ്ഠ' അങ്ങനെ തുടങ്ങി മനോഹരമായ പന്ത്രണ്ട് കഥകൾ.

ഓരോ കഥകളിലും ചെറിയ വാചകങ്ങളിൽ  അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത് ഒരു വലിയ പ്ലോട്ടാണ്, എന്നാൽ  കഥാബീചം ഒട്ടും ചോർന്നുപോകാതെ കേന്ദ്രസ്‌ഥാനിയായി ചെറുകഥ  നിലകൊള്ളുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. എഴുത്തുകാരുടെ വിത്യസ്തമായ ശൈലി കൂടുതൽ അപഗ്രന്ധിക്കാനാകുന്നത് ഇത്തരം ചെറുകഥാ സമാഹാരങ്ങളിലൂടെയാണ്. ഡിസി യുടെ ഈ പരമ്പരയിലെ മറ്റു എഴുത്തുകാരുടെ ചെറുകഥകൾ കൂടി വായിക്കാനാകുമെന്ന വിശ്വാസത്തോടെ.

a brilliant collection of 19 short stories, each one capable of leaving it's prints in the readers mind. womenhood is a recurring theme, so is understanding or rather the lack of it.. and the pain of it's absence. One story in particular "parundhukal" will for sure stay with me, and the memory of Indira.

Often the stories made me wonder "if the author's own feelings leaking through?", that thought most prominent in the final story, "Velutha Babu". These are however only my feelings, from reading them.

ഇതിൽ 'നെയ്പായസം ' പണ്ട് സ്കൂളിൽ പഠിക്കുമ്പോൾ വായിച്ച് കണ്ണുനഞ്ഞത് ഇന്നും ഓർക്കുന്നു.

ഈ കഥകളൊക്കെ എഴുതാൻ അവരെ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ച കര്യങ്ങൾ ആണ് എന്നെ വിസ്മയിപ്പിച്ചത്. വ്യത്യ്തമായൊരു വായന, ശൈലി. എല്ലാവർക്കും ഇഷ്ടപെടണം എന്നില്ല, എനിക്കും ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടാത്ത ഒരുപാട് കഥകൾ ഉണ്ട്.
എന്നിരുന്നാലും, ആ അനുഭവങ്ങൾ. ജീവിതങ്ങൾ.
