A woman that he wasn't in love with. All he wanted was his business of wheeling and dealing. Just as he was about to slip the noose business stalled him in the city...it was the best thing that could ever happen to him, because that's when he saw her from afar. CONGRATS ON THIS BOOK FOR MAKING MY WORST COVER SHELF HAPPEN!

2.5 FAIL FOR ME STARS

As many of you might be aware, Jordan Silver is one of my favourite author. However, lately her books have been hit or miss for me.

I will keep this short and sweet.
I will lay it all out with a list of likes and dislikes.
What I liked:
1- the sassy heroine with a strong personality and a no nonsense attitude.
2- the hero was alpha and totally into her
3- they are very passionate about each other
4- He FINALLY tells his bitch of a mother off, only after she insults the heroine's mother and her culture.
Really?! I guess it's true what they say, better late than never!

What I disliked:
1- the hero punishes the heroine for standing up for herself, when he should have been stopping his bitch of a mother from treating her like garbage.
2- the heroine puts up with it.
3- they have a mostly physical relationship.
4- he allows business to be more important than their relationship.
5- he never tells his mom about his ex cheating on him.
6- he makes the decision and she just follows. Like having kids when he wants and not when they decide. He say two years but then he decides to give her a baby.
For me, this looked like he was giving he a baby so she would be busy and he could keep up HIS workaholic tendencies.
7- no epilogue and no real closure on the issue with the mother.

So for me this book is a fail and I will not even touch the cultural differences in their relationship.
I should have given this one a skip but at least I know.
The 2.5 Stars was for the beginning of the book, which rocked!
The minute they are married the book went downhill for me.

I don't know where to start. I love JS books but this one didn't work for me. I didn't like the h for the first half of the book then the H for the last half. And the JS epilogue that I so love is missing in this book.

The story is about Chance and Alana.

He's one of the leading investment bankers in the city. He's engaged to a woman he doesn't love. The woman is only after his name and money and she was chosen by his mother.

He saw Alana from afar and can't stop thinking about her so he hired someone to find her and made his move.

I already know she's black and it's an interracial story. Why keep mentioning it? There's nothing wrong with that. Love is love, Period.

And his mom is crazy. She's a racist and she was rude to Alana. I found out later why he didn't defend her at first but still, I didn't like it. JS heroes always defend their women but instead of defending her and protecting her from his mother, he punished her. Really? That's crazy!

The ending was abrupt. There's no epilogue.

Interesting... this story felt like it had kind of a random plot?

I dont know... it had the obvious OTT alpha male insta-love which I have come to love and expect from a Jordan Silver story. But the drama in this story was so random. Turns out he has a closeted racist mom? Like that was the big climax... just felt out of place.

Overall a decent story. Jordan Silver is always a instant buy for me despite how I react to some of her books :)

Good solid story

I like the start of the story, but when it came to the handling of his mother I was a bit put off with Chance. I also didn't like the part at the end when he was ignoring her. There really wasn't the OTT alpha male in this book...at least compared to her other books.

I really don't care for this cover! I would've prefer something along the lines of her book T-Bone. Now that is one sexy cover. This one doesn't do anything for me. I don't mind an interracial relationship, but the cover could be better. This was another reason why it only got 3 stars from me.

I was debating on whether or not I should leave a review. I'm not into bashing authors or their work because I'm not a writer and I have no idea what it takes to write a book. So, with that said I just can't with this book. I'm black and I know the author is also black so for her to write Alana with the angry black woman stereotype was bullshit. Then Alana was described as mixed heritage but I'm not sure if that was so she could have gold skin and curly hair but it was unnecessary for the story. But again as black person she should know that we come in all shades and if she wanted light skin and curly hair Alana didn't need a white parent to accomplish that. I'm used to the author's heroes so Chance wasn't anything unexpected. The ending was confusing and abrupt and didn't flow with the story. It was as if the author wasn't in the mood and just slapped on a The End.

Chance Winthrop knew h was going to call off the wedding with a women he had nothing but contempt for, however he did not expect to see the woman he would marry. Alana has no idea that Chance has set his eyes on her, but she has a few words to try to push him away. Chance though is going nowhere and the sooner Alana realizes it the sooner he can claim her as his.

This was a bit over the top for me. I normally like the alpha male but found Alana a bit too much at times. Chance found her entertaining but she was kind of rude at times. Worth picking up if you like Jordan Silver though.

This is a terrible story. First the reverse racism is unnecessary. The author uses this as a device to give her FMC ethnic personality. NO BLACK WOMAN OF EDUCATION AND CHARACTER TALKS OR ACTS THE WAY THIS STORY PORTRAYS! This author also describes the FMC as Caribbean or a ‘sister’(which isn’t correct either as it would be ‘sista’) in place of calling her a black woman. I want to advise the author that there are other groups of people in the Caribbeans besides blacks. There are also Europeans, specifically French and British nations and Latinos, specifically Puerto Ricans, Dominicans and Cubans. So describing an ethnic character as simply Caribbean is insufficient an explanation. IF YOU CAN’T CALL A CHARACTER BLACK THEN DON’T WRITE ABOUT ANY ETHNIC GROUP!! Own that sh!t. Know what you’re talking about! OR DON’T F#€KING WRITE ABOUT THEM!! End of.

I HATED this book! I HATED when the FMC called the MMC out his name as rich boy, white boy, or vanilla ice(!) just to have her supposedly sound ethnic. It was demeaning and out right disrespectful!! This is not how we ethnic people talk. Yes, I’m sure someone somewhere does it, but as this book had the FMC working at an up scale restaurant serving high end patrons and she was a college student I absolutely doubt this character would speak like that! Even if I’m generous enough to allow for the FMC having a work personality and a downtime personality don’t see it as realistic. Owners or managers in these establishments wean out the truly low class applicants and she would not have lasted there if she behaved as such. Yes, I am reading a lot into this but I’m stating facts.

Next thing I hated was the MMC punished the FMC for standing up for herself against his disrespectful mother. As far as I’m concerned he allowed another person into their bed when he did that. The MMC treated his wife/FMC like trash in that scene and I was done!! Anything else that happened wasn’t realistic. It’s a terrible romance as there is no romance to speak of in this book. The MMC is selfish and self centered, which the book opens up on with his description on how he was engaged to someone without much effort on his part. The MMC disgusted me he was such a simp!!

Lastly !), the MMC becomes neglectful of the FMC almost a year into the marriage (which is time jumped btw), and in typical sh!ty FMC thinking she bounces off to Paris without telling the MMC. Yeah that’ll show him! He follows behind her same day and because he feels bad his solution is to ask her to make a baby to make her happy. This is the equivalent of a man giving his woman a toaster for her birthday!! Wtf!?! You are FAILING at this relationship and you think adding a kid will fix anything?!? Honestly, if I had a paperback copy of this book I would set it on fire it pissed me off so bad!!

They have never developed closeness from the off page descriptions only s e x has them feeling any kind of affection from my point of view. This is a relationship that should be heading for divorce due to their disparity in pretty much everything. I had hoped this book was going to be like this author’s other book “the sweetest revenge”. Not for the revenge plotting of that book but of how the MMC fell in love by chance while being in a relationship with someone else who he was trying to get away from. But no. Not even close. The racism, the elitism of the FMC against all the wealthy people in and off the MMC’s world including the MMC, was just too much for me.

I’m at 98% and not one thing has played out well in this story. Not. One. I doubt the HEA can salvage anything in this book. This book is a hard no for me ever reading it again. If I could return it I would. Good luck.

UPDATE

What HEA? The book ends just after that pregnancy request and theirs no epilogue. Again I didn’t see any HEA anywhere. Smdh.

This book could not be written by my favorite author, this book was sooooooo bad I had to double check myself that this was a JS book I was reading!!!!!

I don't like bashing author's and their work as they have a talent that I really envy but this book was really awful.

The heroine Alana was uncouth, disrespectful, brash & vulgar & so not the usual sweet and caring heroines I am used to from a JS book. I did not like the way Alana was portrayed with regards to her colour and we kept getting the fact that Alana was black shoved in our faces.

Chance was not a nice hero. He did not fit into what I expect of a JS hero.

I swear someone else wrote this book!!! As I am writing this review I can't believe that JS wrote this book!!! ( do I need to say it again!)

And what's up with the cover of the book?. I am very guilty of judging a book by it's cover, I should have stuck with that thinking !

Chance Winthrop is a 28 year old billionaire businessman who has focused on making his business even more successful than it was when he took over for his Father. He hasn't had time for girlfriends or even dating. His Mother has been on his ass about getting married even going so far as picking one of her friend's daughter. He doesn't want to marry Brittney she is only interested in his money and his social status. When he sees a beautiful woman outside his office window he realizes she's the one he wants and he must find her. After he locates Alana he sweeps her off her feet and they start a whirlwind affair.

Shame

The premise of the book was ok but the vulgar language Alana was using was demeaning. She’s supposed to be a college student, and she grew up middle class, so why is the author using the urban
vocabulary? It would be fine if she was talking like that with her friends or Chance but it was completely inappropriate with his mother. She could have put her in a place with class. I always find it cruel in these books when the poorer person is used like a zoo animal because their brashness is refreshing. The whole cliché shopping trip and the baby also made no sense. If Alana was so keen on studying, with all her now free time and lack of money problems she could concentrate on that without being tied down to a college schedule. Better use of her time and some depth to her character. As for the baby, what a crazy notion. She’s barely 20 years old, newlywed and supposedly wants to go back to school. How is a baby going to work? It felt like it was a toy to keep her busy while he was busy working.

It's a really crappy cover, really make a new one cuz it doesn't does justice to the author's work, that being said,

Chance Winthrop is a young billionaire who took over for his Father, so Mommy dearest has picked one of her friend's daughter for him to marry. He doesn't want to one and it only to shut his ma that he says ok but as soon as the date is close he just cant go throw, and just so hapens he sees a beautiful woman outside his office window he realizes she's the one he wants and he must find her. Enter alfa billionaire mode on so he get what's he wants in a insta whirlwind affair with Alana, and boy oh boy the sexy time is hot.

Spicy and Delicious

This story was so hot and loved how the very protective and passionate alpha got his girl to submit. He treated her like a Queen and she treated him like a King. I wish it was an epilogue because the story was so good and fell in live with the characters. True love is color blind and really made me think soul mates may exist. I love how the author was able to mix some science that would of made Tristan Grey blush. Great job and please purchase this book it is sooooo Worth it. Lastly, you will laugh your ass off too after cold shower.

Another old read that I either forgot to review or it got deleted. This was a quick read smut read.

The blurb sets it up Chance (28) is engaged to Brittany the spoiled daughter of his mom’s BFF when he gets a glimpse of a beautiful woman and is BOOM ZAP obsessed. He eventually tracks her down, Alana (19) a waitress. The rest is them quickly getting married, having sex, and her dealing with his nasty mom.

Bottom Line- It’s short 70-ish pages and not all smut, but there’s not enough pages to have a deep plot. Low drama- the OW disappears after the first chapter.

Two and a half stars because it's interracial romance involving a black woman white man. But it is the same story from thus author's other books. Young about 18 or 19 year old virgin female. Hot older late 20's and up older male. In this story he is 28. He is always experienced in the sex department.Yep he is a manslut. Manwhore or whatever you want to call him. Same boring story. He becomes obsessive towards her.

Loved It!

This was a good story. As a woman of color it was nice to see a biracial live story involving a black woman and the reality of how an in-law would possibly react to the marriage between a high profile and wealthy white man. There were some inconsistencies, a problem was mentioned but wasn’t expounded upon. Also, it was mentioned that Alana was biracial and eluded that her father may have been white but again nothing expounded upon. All in all still a good read.

Chance is a successful billionaire that took over his father's business and doesn't have time for marriage especially to a woman that is only after his money. When he spots Alana outside his office window, he is drawn to her, and the race is on to find her. When they finally connect his feelings heat up and he is determined to make Alana his in spite of how his mother feels about her. This story had me in their corner cheering them on to getting a happily ever after!

Should write more heroines as black women.

I always feel like this author should be writing about poc...The grammar and vernacular come across as very "urban" in all of the author's books but the heroines and heros are all described as caucasian. As always steamy and raunchy the way I like.

Good read and diversified

The book of all was good. It was quick into the point. It’s the first time or maybe the second time she’s used to protagonists that is of color. I think that’s good to diversify as the contact. Hopefully she doesn’t indicate the diction of those of color as being just of that candor.

Mostly fun

This is mostly classic Silver fun. There are some genuinely laugh out loud moments. I enjoyed most of it except for the part with his mother. That made no sense. Why would he punish her for standing up for herself? He did NOTHING. The lazy git. He even says he did nothing because he knew she COULD stand up for herself, yet punished her? And she let him? Weird.

I really wanted to enjoy this story, especially considering I love interracial, BWWM genres. I found this story lacking. It was really slow. I kept waiting for the hot, hot Jordan Silver sex, instead, it felt like my mom's Harlequin from the 80s. D-

Not the best.

I didn't really enjoy this story as much as her other ones. Found the main female character immature. Actually I don't think there was a story, he saw her, stalked her, got her, finished. Not the writer's best work, a waste of $$$.
