The author dropped me right into the tempestuous affair of Sophie and Brett. I have always enjoyed her books so it was a foregone conclusion that I will love this one too only how much I would being the questioning factor.
It was easy to get lost in the story from the beginning. The story starts with Brett and Sophie's hide and seek game of Brett trying to get Sophie into his bed. In the starting it felt like I was missing the backstory of the pair but as it proceeded, I didn't have any problem understanding the flow of the story.
Though the story's spotlight seems to be on Brett, I believe I loved Sophie better. Don't mistake me! I liked Brett because he is sweet and hot. But what stole the attention was Sophie with her strong persona and determination to stick with her ideals. Another strong point was the supporting cast with a good family vibe.
The romance felt pretty straightforward and it was very sweet and flirty. It was also super hot from the beginning. The story's pace was just right for their romance and I loved the swoon worthy scenes. I am going to hanker now for the other books I believe. I am so curious about the other pairings!
I recommend the author's books not just this one for all contemporary romance lovers.
I received a copy for reviewing purposes which doesn't impact my review in any way.
My one line review : A super hot romance with loveable characters.
Bad Boys After Dark: Brett was the fourth and final book in the Bad Boys series by Melissa Foster. It was also the eighth book in her Billionaires After Dark series and the fiftieth book in her Love in Bloom series. I love how she continued to interconnect the various series.
Brett Bad was the last Bad brother to fall. He was gorgeous, successful and the ultimate playboy. He had been crazy over his brother, Mick’s, beautiful, smart and feisty assistant, Sophie Roberts, for quite a while but she wanted forever and he only had one night to give.
It was the quintessential chase, cave in moment, and now they want more scenario. I loved “forever kisses.” Foster depicted them well and the concept was incredibly romantic. Although it was fairly predictable, it was still well written, fun, sweet and entertaining. It was a journey of acceptance, forgiveness and love. It was also a refreshing change from the dark themes I have been reading lately.
All in all, it was a quick, light hearted and good feels book. Although it completed the Bad series, I would love a novella for the parents. It would fill in some of the details and be a great way to come full circle for the series.
Lastly, Foster brought the families of Oak Falls front and center in preparation for the next spin off Love in Bloom series. They are a colorful bunch and I can’t wait. We are gifted with Sophie’s best friend, Grace Montgomery, first in Embracing Her Heart. Bring it on!
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.
Melissa Foster sure knows how to write a loveable hero. She perfectly nails the troubled yet strong bad/tough/blokey male, who also happens to be so damned adorable its not funny.
Brett was my first of the Bad Boys, but I will definitely going back to read about his brothers. What an adorable family. But, I digress…this one is about Brett and Sophie, and its a wonderful story.
I really liked Sophie as the female lead, and I like how she knows what she wants. Of course, when you throw a Bad boy into this mix, particularly this one, you can forgive her for putting her worries to the back of her mind.
Her family were also a really awesome addition to this novel and I really would love to see more of them as well.
Brett and Sophie have an awesome and undeniable chemistry, and watching them come together was awesome. Particularly Brett, who has past demons that he needs to deal with. Sophie is perfect for him though, and she helps him realise things and come to terms with others, and it just works so well.
I love how two people from two totally different families and lifestyles, can come together and be just what the other needs. The real growth in this story for me is Brett, and I just adored him.
Definitely recommend this book, as always with Melissa Foster. Loved it.
BRETT is the last Bad sibling in this series to get his book and unfortunately, this was my least favorite book in the series. I have enjoyed all the other heroes in this series, but I really didn’t find Brett Bad attractive. He was far too cocky and borderline pushy for me and that really made me step back from his character instead of fall in love with him. In fact, there were numerous times in the story where the heroine, Sophie, feels like he is too much also. Cockiness is a huge turn-off for me. A lot of his lines, especially at the beginning of the book, were gross to me. And just when I thought he would be a gentleman, he turns into a he-man again. It just didn’t work for me.
However, if you can handle Brett’s intensity, then you may still enjoy this book. I liked Sophie, like I said, and Foster’s actual writing isn’t bad. Because of Brett’s intense personality, the sex scenes are intense as well. But to me, this book felt more like a hook-up fling rather than one that will take you down the aisle.
Sweet romances are Melissa Foster’s specialty and Brett is no exception. Foster fans will swoon over the reformed billionaire playboy and the woman who tamed Mr. Bad.
Foster writes romances which are little drama, but tons of swoony sexiness. They’re lighthearted and easy to read with a great blend of heat and heart. In this installment we read about the youngest of the loyal alpha Bad brothers, Brett, who has been after his brother’s assistant, Sophie Roberts, for what seems like an eternity. There’s only one problem, she’s rejected every single one of his advances because he’s the love’em and leave’em kind while she dreams of forever kisses.
Regardless of her happily ever after fantasies, there’s another kind of fantasy Sophie would like to indulge in, where Brett commands her passion, even if only for a fleeting moment. Can she protect her heart from Brett’s devastating charm? Will one night sate his hunger for Sweet Sexy Sophie?
Brett thought his decision to spend one night with Sophie would be suffice, but as soon as she’s in his arms he can’t get enough and one night becomes two and two become so much more.
The familiarity between Brett and Sophie is evident right from the start because there’s so much more to them. They’re sexy and flirty and it was wonderful and heartwarming to see these two find their way to a love that had been building for years.
Brett realizes he’s deeply in love with Sophie and would do just about anything to be with her. He’s endearing, sweet and knows how to turn on the heat.
And although I like stories with a bit more drama and less sweetness, I found Brett and Sophie’s journey enjoyable, smiling and swooning throughout their story.
Brett is book #4 in the Bad Boys after dark series by Melissa Foster. It is a full length, standalone, contemporary romance that is easy to read with likeable characters, very little drama a whole lot of sexy sweetness. It has a happy ending and is told from both points of view.

Melissa Foster is an author I have been meaning to pick up for a very long time. I seem to see her books everywhere – in my Amazon suggestions, on my Facebook ads, being reviewed by friends, and in plenty of other places that leave me curious. I’ve even downloaded a handful of the author’s work onto my Kindle, grabbing books when they’ve been free. Despite my interest, I’ve never known where to dive in.
You see, my understanding is that most of Melissa Foster’s work is connected in some way. The sheer number of books in the Love in Bloom series is somewhat intimidating. Due to this, I always told myself I would start with the standalone Tru Blue – after all, it was the first of Melissa Foster’s books to really grab my attention, going beyond being a simple case of ‘I see this book everywhere’. Although I planned to start with Tru Blue, Brett ended up being my first Melissa Foster read. Although it is the fourth book in the Bad Boys After Dark series, the eighth book in the Billionaires After Dark series, and the fiftieth book in the Love in Bloom series, it can be read as a standalone.
At first, I was a wee bit tentative. There seemed to be history behind the characters that I was missing, and I feared I would not get to understand them to the degree I would need to. Fortunately, as the story progressed, I was sucked deeper into their story. Initial interactions may have taken place in the prior books, but the big stuff happens in this book. Sure, I’d like to read the prior Bad Boys After Dark books to get a better understanding of things – not just for these characters, but also for some of the underlying storyline – but I was not at a loss due to jumping straight into Brett.
While I did enjoy the story between these characters, Brett wasn’t quite a full four-star rating. It was enjoyable enough for me to round up, but it is closer to a three-point-five-star read. You see, I feel as though something was missing with this one. There was no point in the story where there was a high level of angst between the characters nor was there a point where I feared for the relationship – in other words, it was all smooth sailing on the relationship front. I would have liked something more there, something to make me feel deeply for the relationship instead of the drama being focused upon the personal life of our male lead.
Overall, this was enjoyable enough. As my introduction to Melissa Foster, Brett has left me willing to see what else the author has to offer – I won’t be going out of my way to bump Melissa Foster books to the top of my to-read list, but I will read more of the author in the future.
What do you do if someone you are attracted to constantly hits on you but you know he's a playboy? Do you risk your friendship? Do you risk your heart? Well that is the scenario Sophie finds herself in. Can she have one night of bliss with Brett without a chance for anything more? Maybe, just maybe, she won't have to walk away after one night, maybe, Brett is ready to change his ways.
I received this book for free from Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The series numbers behind the title may be a bit intimidating, but Brett reads 100% as a standalone. It's the story of Brett and Sophie. Sophie has been working for Brett's brother and the two are frequently thrown into each others orbit. As they get to know each other better, Brett feels an unexplainable pull to Sophie, causing his habits to change. Its confusing and intense for him.
Sophie is a great heroine. She's a hardworker, and finally deicides to give herself permission to take a walk on the Bad side, with Brett himself. I loved the two of them together. Sophie was soft, but tough. She was gentle with Brett when he needed it, and called him on it when he needed it. I love her determination in life and love.
Overall, I enjoyed Brett. The side characters, previous couples from the series featuring Brett's brothers, added some comic relief when things would get tense for Sophie and Brett. It made for a well balanced story. Sophie and Brett match each other well, I loved watching these two fall for each other.
Brett (Bad Boys After Dark, #4; Billionaires After Dark #8; Love in Bloom #50) by Melissa Foster The Bad Boys are at their best when faced with their worst. Tragedy has shaped them into men of strength and character. Too bad they can't see that for themselves. Sometimes it takes a fresh pair of eyes and an open heart to help change our perspective. Brett is a good man with a bad rep when it comes to women. He won't invest his heart long enough to explore the possibilities. Sophie is the one woman that can make him rethink that stance. If he can get this wary vixen to let down her guard and give him a chance. The After Dark series puts readers in touch with their naughty side with the sweetest of intentions. Brash dialogue, bold situations and emotion packed moments heat up the pages as Sophie and Brett dance their way into our hearts.
The beauty of reading is when you are lucky enough to find a book that connects with your heart and soul, it has you there in the moment, and this is exactly what happened reading Brett and Sophie's magical story. I was left feeling elated from all the emotions, joy and excitement that had built up inside while reading this beautiful, hot and tender story.
Brett and Sophie's characters are equally lovable, they totally captured all my imagination and my heart with their their humor, passion and love that grew. I felt myself smiling at their chats and their inner thoughts. I loved Brett's inner turmoil as he tries to understand his new feelings and vulnerabilities towards Sophie, questioning himself if he was actually mentally prepared for his first real relationship, and learning to allow his softer true side out instead of the macho one he wore. It reminded me of all those worries and nagging doubts you have as you enter a new relationship. But Brett knew deep down what he wanted with Sophie and was strong enough to jump as many hurdles as he needed to. He was such a fun, impulsive character, he definitely carried Sophie off her feet. Sophie is also a strong character that knows her own worth, she dreams of forever love, she could see glimpses of the man hiding underneath all his muscular armour and hoped with all her might that her happy ever after dream would come true with him. There were treasured times within this story that actually took my breath away and not just bedroom scenes, pure emotions that actually tore through me as their true feelings were being shared.
In the story we also get to see old and upcoming characters giving the sense of such a strong family bond and friendship between them all, it was great to see them all together. Sophie's family scenes in the story, how they welcomed Brett so readily into their lives and how Brett was with them, were a joy to read and I've got to say that Nana was a hoot! It also reminded Brett of how families can be with each other and stirred up deeply hidden emotions that potentially could ruin everything.
This was a magical blend of hot burning passion, new beginnings, tender romance, humor, forgiveness & the true value of family. This thoroughly touching story was a pure joy to read and for me it is easily the best Bad Boys read from the series, and that's saying something because I enjoyed them all. The feelings when reading this book will stay with you for quite some time!
This is the fourth and final installation in the Bad Boys After Dark Series, however Brett is the first that I have read, and it can be read as a stand alone.
Boy, what a story. Those Bad boys really are a force to be reckoned with.
Brett Bad has seen all his brothers fall completely under the spell of their women, and he swears that is not what he is going to do.
But then there is Sophie, whom he has been lusting after for ever.
I love these two together. There is plenty of spark between them, so want is not their problem. However Brett can't do it. He is not built for relationships - or is he?
I adore how Sophie doesn't give up, and she brings Brett right out of his self-imposed relationship shell.
I haven't read any of the previous Bad books, however there is enough background that it was not hard to get the gist of the family dramas.
I freaking love the other Bad boys and the women in their lives. They have created a family where one was lacking. The banter between the brothers, and between all the women was sweet and sexy and funny - and made me want them to all be my friends too.
Reading Brett has made me curious about the rest of the brothers, and I will be going back to read them all soon
The storyline is well written, entertaining, sweet, steamy and I loved it. Brett and Sophie are likable, relatable characters that entertained me with their story. They have amazing chemistry and a strong connection. Watching them drop their walls and fall in love warmed my heart.
Brett is a wonderful addition to the Bad Boys After Dark series, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them all!
Another very cute romance from Melissa Foster. I can count on her for an all loving relationship between couple, and a dynamic family aspect which I adore.
Brett Bad was not the type of guy for relationships but he can't get Sophie off his mind! I have not read the previous books in the series about how these two met but I do not think its needed to understand how they met and their connection so far. These two have an awesome connection and I adored how Brett came to be ready to be in a relationship with Sophie and worked through his issues that where stopping him from connecting to others in the past. But it was because Sophie was so special to him that he was able to make the connection. I have to say this was also a super steamy read and these two had so much chemistry!!
I adored Sophie's family! Nana was hilarious and I liked her sister Lindsey so much , and I hope she finds love and gets her own story! I also enjoyed learning about Brett's brothers and their wives. But like I said previously you don't need to read their stories to read Brett's.
Bad Boys After Dark: Brett by Melissa Foster is the story of Brett Bad and Sophie Roberts. Brett has had his eye on Sophie for a while but she knows his reputation and hasn't wanted a one night stand type of encounter with him. Sophie is the more committed type of girl but after her friends talk her into having fun and Brett not letting up...she goes forward to have some fun with Brett. Brett has issues with committing to someone due to his past but his feelings for Sophie are just getting stronger and he can't seem to want to walk away. Another Great Story by Ms. Foster....she is one of my go to authors for a great read!
3.5 Stars!!! This was my first book by this author! It was sweet with interesting and funny side characters! Nana was a hoot! Also had some very poignant scenes, especially towards the end! This is a stand alone, but I think I would have liked it even more if I would have read the other books in the series first! Enjoyed the story and will read other books by this author!
FAV QUOTES: “I’m the guy who’s going to ruin you for all other men”
She said, “Mom, sometimes you know there’s more to a person than even they see.”
*This ARC was received in exchange for an honest review*
This is the story of Brett Bad a Billionaire security expert who has seen his three brothers fall in love and get married, but that’s not for him he just wants a casual affair with someone and that someone he has set his sights on is Sophie Roberts who is his brother, Mick’s legal assistant, but she has resisted him so far until her friends decide that she should go for it and she takes up Brett’s offer of one night. The thing though is that emotions can get in the way and one night leads to another and the chemistry between Brett and Sophie is just sparking and being with Sophie, Brett starts to make changes from dealing with the past and reconciling with his father who he has hated for so long. Will there be another wedding in the family or will the past hold them back. This was a great story by Melissa Foster, love all her books.
Brett is the last of the Bad brothers standing, until he gets a taste of Sophie. Sweet Sophie has pushed Brett aside for years as he would try to get with her. They combine in an amazing combination. I love getting a glimpse into this Bad boy as he learns that Sophie truly knows him better than he knows himself. The glimpse of Grace always made me smile. (side note my first MF book was Grace's which is why after reading all the Montgomery/Braden currently released books I went back to find Brett and Sophie).
Melissa always writes amazing books with so much depth in her characters, that is brings them to life as you read. She brings you to the city or county and allows you to have all the feels.
The Bad Brothers are strong, intense, persistent and powerful. Once you meet them, you can’t help but want to spend more time with them and Brett Bad was no exception. From the moment I met Brett I was curious to know what made this playboy tick.
Brett is averse to commitment. He is not looking to be tied down to one woman as he believes love was not meant for him. Watching his brothers fall under the spell of love was not enough to change his mind. Then he met Sophie Roberts. He finds himself drawn to her, but she refuses to respond to his overtures. All he wants is one night with her to so he can move on to his next conquest, but is this enough to purge Sophie Roberts from his mind and heart?
Sophie is looking for her forever after, but she knows Brett is not the one to offer it to her. Unfortunately, this did not stop her from being attracted to him. Her attraction to him made refusing his advances difficult and so she granted him his wish for one night with her. Will she be able to give Brett what he desires without risking her heart in the process?
I enjoyed the moments spent with this wonderful couple. I detest players, but when I learned the reasons behind his actions, I could not help but empathise with him. Brett struggled with guilt, which stemmed from tragic events in his past. It was this guilt coupled with fear, which made him commitment phobic.
Spending time with Sophia proved to the best medicine for Brett. Her love healed him in ways he never thought possible. It gave him the courage to face his demons, thus making him a stronger person. A man who is not afraid to express his feelings is strong and Brett became that person through the healing power of love. Sophie saw in Brett what he failed to see in himself. I admired her willingness to risk all for her forever love. How much of us would risk the pain of a broken heart hoping to find our own forever love?
Their romance was sweet and spicy. These two burnt up the pages. I loved that their romance was drama free and any obstacles to their relationship lay with them. I admired Brett’s attempts to prove to Sophia that he was willing to give her what she so desired. Watching them navigate the hills and valleys of their relationship was heart-warming and a stark reminder that true was worth fighting for.
Ms. Foster is known for writing stories, which not only focuses on the romance between her characters, but also on the unbreakable bonds of friendship and the value of family. These themes featured strongly in this installment. I enjoyed spending time with Sophia’s family, especially her grandmother who was the life of the party. Spending time with Sophia’s family was an eye opening experience for Brett. An experience, which would forever change him.
Conclusion/ Recommendation Brett: Bad Boys After Dark took me on a journey I was not prepared for, but one I thoroughly enjoyed. The emotions leapt from the pages and the story flowed fluidly. Brett’s story is the fourth and final book in the series and it is my favourite of all. Ms. Foster delivered a sweet, sexy romance with heart, which I found enchanting and captivating.
~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~
What a fantastic final story in the series - but I am looking forward to meeting the Bad guys and their loves in new books from Ms Foster.
This is the fourth book in the series, and whilst it could be read as a stand alone, why would you deny yourself the goodness of all these lovely books. In fact there are links through all Ms Foster's books, so if you have read some of them, you may well find old friends pop up too. I am going to assume that you have read the previous three books in my review.
Brett is the last brother standing alone, and even after the revelations of Carson's book, he still believes that he is responsible for much of what destroyed his family. Therefore, he maintains that he should remain alone and not get the happiness which he cannot deserve. He has not denied himself pleasure, but never more than once. Unfortunately since he met Sophie, he can't raise any interest in anyone else, and she is not the one night stand kind of woman. She works for his brother, Mick, which means that Brett is often around. But she will not be another name on his list. One of them has to give ...
I loved how these two reconciled their viewpoints with their desires. It would have been easy for Sophie to weaken, but she never does. She is strong, supportive, and also soft and generous. And she needs to be as Brett is finally having to come to terms with all those feelings he has bottled up for so long. I did trust Ms Foster would make everything work out, but there were a few tense moments!
The time that they spend with her family is absolutely fantastic. Thank goodness I didn't have a Nana ... but what a great character! I also had this feeling that there are plenty of stories to tell with the new generation of friends and family that we meet - which is just the best news.
This is a perfect mix of funny, sexy, moving and ultimately a supremely positive story.
Bad Boys After Dark: Brett is the fourth book in the Bad Billionaires After Dark series. This book drew me in from the very beginning. It is a story full of romance, humor, and definitely some steamy heat. A well-written story with a plot moves at a steady pace with a fresh, new story line that is easy to read. It is captivating and kept my attention to the very end. This is a story that will make you smile and laugh. Melissa does a great job of taking common issues that most of us can relate to and show that with love all things are possible. Definitely a book that gives you all sorts of emotions.
The characters are well developed and easy to like. This author knows how to create a story with enough romance and action to keep the reader entertained and interested. The characters in this series have become like my own friends and family. I can’t wait to read more in this series to see what happens with the rest of the characters. Melissa does a great job of intertwining the characters from each book into the rest of them. You get a new story with a little more of the future of the characters you have read about previously.
Bad Boys After Dark: Brett is another book from a very gifted author that I had the pleasure to read. Melissa Foster is a very talented author that tells remarkable stories that captivate you and will have you not wanting to put the book down. I have not been disappointed yet! Definitely, an author that you will want to keep on your go-to list. If you enjoy reading a romance that is entertaining and full of humor, then you will thoroughly enjoy this book and series. This series will leave you wanting to read more!
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review. 4 1/2 stars Welcome to the last of the Bad Brothers, this is Brett's story. And a good thing is that all of the brothers are in this story at some point. Brett doesn't think he is cut out for love when he sees his brothers finding their women and falling head over heels in love. He thinks that love is not made for him. So he sticks with different women and not the same one twice. He has been drawn to Sophie for as long as he can remember, but he just wants one time with her. So he can get her out of his system. Sophie works for Mick, Brett's older brother and she is a relationship and forever kind of girl. Something Brett doesn't feel he can give her. Although Sophie has liked Brett for a while now, she doesn't feel she can give him one time and not lose her heart. She wants forever because that is what she saw growing up, her parents and grandparents have been in love forever. And Sophie will not settle for less. Can Brett give her what she needs and learn to love her as she deserves? Will Sophie give in and lose her heart to Brett and have it broken in the end? Will Brett learn what love really is from being around Sophie and her family? Will his brothers help him see that his past wasn't his fault? I loved these brothers and the women who loved them and maybe a story in the future will all the brothers, their wives and children gathering just so we can see how everyone is doing? If you haven't read anything from Melissa Foster, just pick one, most of the stories are tie-ins and can be read as standalone anyway. She is one of my go-to authors and I don't even have to know what the story is going to be about, I want to read it, it is a given. So if you are looking for a really great story, with hot men and women who love them, check out this series. I hope you love it as much as I have.
Just listen to this name… Brett Bad… what do you think of? Alpha male, sexy as heck, bad boy with an attitude is what I thought of and Brett Bad is all that and so much more. After losing his sister to leukemia he has put his heart away and made himself closed off to opening his heart. Well, until he meets his brother’s legal assistant Sophie Rogers. Without even trying she makes him want things that he thought he could never wish for.
This couple is amazing. While it starts as a take what you get hook-up it quickly turns into something more. I love that Sophie was willing to accept that Brett only had so much to offer yet ever so gently pushes him to offer more. Most of the time Brett didn’t even realize that Sophie was pushing until he had already gave her some of what she was looking for. Their relationship was all physical at the start but there was emotion and heart underneath that physical part very quickly.
Brett’s story is the final chapter in the Bad Boys After Dark series. It was fun to catch up with the other brothers and their partners. There were weddings, family get together, and babies to learn about. I am sure in future book in the Love in Bloom Series the Bad Boys will make an appearance and I can’t wait to see what they are up to.
This is the last one of the Bad boys and Melissa Foster left the best for last...
The Bad Boys After Dark is a great series that tells the story of 4 brothers: Mick, Dylan, Carson and Brett. They are well successful adults with great careers, but are traumatized by the death of their 8-year old sister Lorelei by leukemia years ago.
Each one deals with this pain and sorrow in their own way, but Brett the closest in age with Lorelei takes it with anger and guilt. Years later, he meets his brother Mick's legal assistant, the lovely Sophie, and they begin a flirting game without taking things seriously since she knows he does not want any relationships.
Sophie wants it all and Brett wants right now... Or at least he thinks so...
After getting together for the first time (since Sophie is only human... Who could refuse Brett for long, after all?), they begin kind of a relationship and now it is for you to discover this journey of love, romance and acceptance.
I think Melissa Foster is an author who can successfully mix romance and real deep feelings and emotions that are human. There is a human factor in her books that it is undeniable.
The whole series is great, and this book is worth reading.
Deliciously sexy opposites attract romance that has sizzle, passion, and a heartwarming love story
Brett (Bad Boys After Dark #4) is a deliciously sexy opposites attract romance that has sizzle, passion, and a heartwarming love story and will have you swooning over yet another Bad brother. (Seriously, I wish Melissa Foster could create these men for real (or any of the men from her books!)). While this is the last book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.
Brett and Sophie have a wicked chemistry but their differing views on relationships adds a low underlying angst to their story which keeps readers enraptured as this sexy couple weave together the present with the scars of the past. Told from dual perspective, both characters are very likeable and will have you quickly rooting for them to find a happily-ever-after.
If you like your romance full of passion but with a heartwarming love story, this book and series hits all the boxes. Definitely recommend it!
*I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
Brett is a one night stand kind of guy, and Sophie is more of a relationship type woman.
So, what are they supposed to do when they realize their attraction is one that they are not able to ignore? Well, they each quickly realize that there is more between them than they have had with others in the past...and that is the fun of this title.
The reader watches Sophie and Brett figure out how to deal with what they want, and deal with the fact that they both want more than they initially bargained for. I liked this, and I enjoyed watching them deal with the emotions that this brought forward and not spending as much time as books often do with the characters resisting what is happening between them.
The writing was strong, and the characters were interesting. Unfortunately, for me, there is a romance trend that I am no longer willing to believe works that did end up at play in this title, and while it was handled well, it was enough to color the end of the book for me, and I was not able to get past it.
Was it just me? Very, very likely...and I did enjoy the book overall. I do recommend this title.
Brett was a little flat for me. I am talking about the book and not the character. I was expecting something with more angst and ups and downs. Brett and Sophie are two people who want different things in life and yet they seemed to sync too fast and easily which was something that I didn't like. I wanted a dose of drama. I know drama is not a word used to describe a book by Melissa Foster, but the Bad boys after dark series is already a little bit different than her usual books. That was the only thing that bothered me when I was reading this book. Brett is not trying to run away when things get serious and he chases Sophie again and again. These aren't the actions of a man who doesn't want to commit. They felt out of character. And here is your reason I am giving 4 stars to the book. The rest of it was good. I liked Sophie and the secondary characters who are always welcome to me. They appear a lot and yet they don't steal the show or precious time from the main couple. And that's what makes a book from Melissa Foster good. They are always about family and love without making the reader feel like they are missing something.
In this fourth book in the Bad Boys After Dark series we meet Brett and Sophie. In true Melissa Foster style the Bad Boys After Dark is an erotic, romance series focusing on the Bad Brothers: Mick, Dylan, Carson and Brett. Even though this is the fourth book in the series, it’s absolutely a great stand alone read. However after you read this book you are going to NEED to read the other books. I loved that this story is told in dual third person perspectives. Brett is a one night stand type who has been pining over Sophie for months. Because he doesn’t want to repeat his parent’s disastrous relationship, he pushes anyone he feels he’s falling for away. It’s because these memories from the past haunt him, that he feels he’s not worthy of being loved. Sophie is definitely attracted to Brett as well. However Brett’s reputation is very well known, so she keeps him at a distance. This book has lots of passion, which is something that I’ve come to expect and love from Melissa Foster! It’s a great book that kept me wanting more until the end. I can’t wait to read Melissa Foster’s next series!
