Reading Gulshan Nanda’s Neelkanth Was Almost Akin To Being Transported Back To My School Days. Even Though My Memory Fails Me In Recollecting 47 Years Ago Which Was The Exact Title With Which I Discovered The Fascinating World Woven By Gulshan Nanda My Bleak Memory When Prodded Coughs Up Three Names In All Probability Daag, Bhanwar Or Ajnaabi?
Whichever Of The Three May Have Introduced Me To Gulshan Nanda And The Magic Sheer Magic He Wove Was Simply Mesmerising And Thus Began A Lifelong Journey That Snapped Abruptly But By Then I Had Read Almost All His Titles.
Living In The Backwaters Of Bihar In Early ‘70’s AH Wheeler On The Railway & Bus Stations Was Like A Lifeline In The Middle Of Nowhere. Still Vividly Remember It Was Almost A Ritual Of Sort To Decide Whether One Should Read A Gulshan Nanda Novel Before Watching A Film Adapted On His Bestseller Or Watch The Film First And Then Plunge Deep Into The Novel To Catch The Finer Nuances That The Film May Have Missed Out On. Mostly One Ended Up Going In Both Directions For Each Book Adapted Into A Cult Film Or A Classic BestSeller Of Gulshan Nanda Ruined Horribly On Celluloid.
Returning Back To 2020 Was Indeed An Experience As Reprints Of His Classic Were Discovered On Amazon Kindle Unlimited And Neelkanth Transported One Back Into The Teenage Tears Circa 1973.
Neelkanth Is The Story Of Two Sisters Sandhya & Bela Who’s Destiny Is Binding Them Together Far Beyond Sisterhood. What Neither Of The Sisters Know Is That There Is A Dark Secret Waiting To Tear Them Apart Once The Cat Is Let Out Of The Bag.
Matters Only Escalate When Bela The Younger Sister Who’s Stubborn And Obstinate Sets Eye Upon Sandhya Didi’s Beau And She Desires Anand To The Level Of Possessing Him By Hook Or By Crook Even Though She Knows He Is Beyond Her Lakshmanrekha.
What Follows Is A Tumultuous Journey Of Highs & Lows Like An Emotional Rollercoaster For Sandhya-Anand & Bela Who Just Cannot Cut Their Ties Even When They Fallen Apart.
For Those Who May Find Gulshan Nanda Too Mushy & Melodramatic Don’t Forget That Most Of His Books Were Written Between The Mid-60’s Right Upto His Demise In The Early 80’s.

I read this book when I was in school. That time also it appeared too mushy to me and there were hundred loop holes.
