George Varghese Kakkanadan (Malayalam: ജോര്‍ജ്ജ് വര്‍ഗ്ഗീസ് കാക്കനാടന്‍; (23 April 1935 – 19 October 2011[1]), commonly known as Kakkanadan, was a Malayalam language short story writer and novelist from Kerala state, South India. He is often credited with laying the foundation of modernism in Malayalam literature. He is a recipient of Kendra Sahithya Academy Award.

പറങ്കിമല ഒരു പുതിയ വായനയുടെ സുഖം പകര്‍ന്ന് തരുന്നു. അപ്പുവിന്‍റെ ജീവിതം ഇതള്‍ വിരിയുന്ന സ്ത്രീകളുടെ ശരീരങ്ങളിലൂടെ നോവല്‍ വികസിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ കേവലം രതിയുടെ പരിസരമല്ല കാക്കനാടന്‍ വരച്ചു ചേര്‍ക്കുന്നത് . തങ്ക എന്ന പെണ്ണിലൂടെ പ്രണയത്തിന്‍റെ അതീവ ഹൃദ്യമായ മുഹൂര്‍ത്തങ്ങള്‍ ഈ സൃഷ്ടി സമ്മാനിക്കുന്നു . എങ്കിലും പറങ്കിമല യുവത്വത്തിന്‍റെ രതി പരിസരങ്ങളെ രേഖപ്പെടുത്താന്‍ തുനിയുന്നു.തന്നെക്കാള്‍ പ്രായം കൂടുതലുള്ള നാണിയുടെ ശരീരത്തില്‍ അഭിരമിക്കുന്ന അപ്പു കലുഷിതമായ കാമസങ്കല്പങ്ങളുടെ ചിത്രമാണ്‌ . നാണിമാരെ തേടി അലയുന്ന അപ്പു ഒടുവില്‍ തങ്കയുടെ സ്നേഹത്തിന്‍റെ സത്യത്തിനു മുന്നില്‍ സ്വയം ഇല്ലാതാകുന്നു. രതിയെന്ന സത്യത്തെ നിങ്ങള്‍ സദാചാര ബോധത്താല്‍ ഭയക്കുന്നുവേങ്ങില്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ഈ രചന ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടില്ല ..... പക്ഷെ കാക്കനാടന്‍ സൃഷ്‌ടിച്ച ഭാവനലോകങ്ങളില്‍ മോശപ്പെട്ട ഒന്നാണിത്. എന്നാലും ഒരു സുഖം ;-)

the language used to express the emotions of the main character is marvelous...the book not only deals with lust but also the ordinary emotions of people in a particular village....it gives importance to the emotions..people find only sex but it express the emotionals of ordinary teens..

This is the first malayalam novel which i have read. And i am happy my start was with a very good novel. Wonderful work by Kakkanadan. Reading this novel created a new interest in me that I must read so many malayalam novels.

In his usual style Kakkanadan explores the thoughts and feelings of adolescence. The greatness lies in his ability to dive deep in to human mind and understand the raw emotion like lust.
