THE JASON KING NOVELS
ISOLATED - Book 1 IMPRISONED - Book 2 RELOADED - Book 3
Million-copy bestseller Matt Rogers is a prolific thriller author intent on blurring the lines between hard-hitting action and mind-bending philosophy. An avid runner and mountain trekker, he leans on real world experience to craft edge-of-your-seat thrill rides with staggering plot twists. His breakout novel, BE SOMEBODY, was lauded by IndieReader industry professionals, who praised the "impeccable writing" and "air-tight plot construction." First, let me point out that I received a free copy of this work for my inclusion to the author's email list.
Matt Rogers has done it again! "Reloaded" is an action-packed, edge of your seat, story about Jason King's retirement from the special operations group. Unfortunately, his past exploits allowed him to be recognized and his former foe has revenge in mind. When bodies begin showing up on the island of Corsica, the special operations group orders a hit on Jason - targeting him as a rogue agent for walking away from the agency several months earlier.
Jason has met his equal in the dispatched hitman and then after taking turns of beating each other senseless, they temporarily join forces to stop a corrupt official on the island. Although, not all is as it appears and the activity that is bound to make the official millions poses a personal dilemma to each Black Op soldier. Retirement is not all its cut out to be for Jason King.
Now that Jason is leaving a trail of bodies, It's necessary for him to leave his multi-million dollar mansion in the hills and the local bar he owns in town - both have kept him grounded in Corsica. However, he'd already tasted what it's like to be in prison on his last mission, and all the evidence left with the dead bodies all point to him - and there's no way he's going back to prison - nobody will believe that it was self-defense. There is a hint that his next mission may take him to Sweden. I guess we'll see!
Only one concern that I have about the story and that is when Jason meets the hitman from Black Ops. There seemed to be a lot of redundancy about the man's qualifications and comparisons to himself. Phrases and descriptions seemed to pop up in every scene for a while - seemingly, overly excessive. However, that's just me. Overall, great job Mr.Rogers! Keep them coming!

Although not in the exact order of publication, this is the second Jason King novel by Matt Rogers that I have completed. And I love this character that Matt Rogers has created - Jason King. I agree with other reviewers who describe Jason King as the best action hero of recent time. The character is clearly developing into a more complex and interesting protagonist with each subsequent novel. Jason has told himself that he was making a peaceful retirement on Corsica, and yet, trouble works to find him. This book introduces another Black Force operator - Slater, who is the only other BF operator that Jason has ever met, and they both are almost equally interesting. I strongly disagree with a reviewers comments that the "heroes are two psychos." I personally have met driven men like these who are highly moralistic, and have no problems "eliminating" the "bad guys" when they are just half as evil as the "bad guys from Matt Rogers' imagination. No question that the author's military background has helped him create the combat/fight scenes and the tactical movement descriptions that certainly seem believable. The plot move very fast. The book is really hard to put down. I have IMPRISONED next on my bedside stand.
Another fast-paced,engaging thriller in which Jason just can't go on without finding out what a man elected to town official is doing on the side. A man from his former life walks into his bar, where he has been enjoying 'retired' life for some time. Shortly after 3 men attempt to kill him, bringing all his old senses back quickly. These men are killed in a fight with him, causing him to wonder what is going on. When in the airport a man ,with muscles and manners much like his own, tries to attack,he finds out that the Back Force wants him killed. The next meeting ends up putting himself and this Black Force employee on the same side as they attempt to destroy a kidnap/ slave ring that sells females. The plot is great, all scenes described fully and characters make you love or hate them. Enjoyable read for those who like thrillers!
When Jason gets targeted by his former employers and meets the guy who replaced him - and who was sent to kill him - he realizes that he can't run from what his is - a force of right and protector of the innocent.
He meets a woman but she's like no one he's ever spent time with but she winds up getting snatched by human traffickers who want Jason dead.
Will Slater is sent to kill Jason because it's believed he's gone rouge and just killing for the fun of it and must be put down. Slater is just as good as Jason and to prove it, they pretty much beat the crap out of each other but keep it short of death and the saddest part of this book was when Will, chasing Jason in a carjacked Lamborghini, falls into a trap Jason set and utterly destroyed the Lamborghini.
They join forces to take out the politician running the trafficking ring, the buyer, and anyone who gets in their way. During it all, Jason is tying to find a way to stay out of the job Will also wants to walk away from.
Huge body counts, crazy feats of daring-do and a decision for Jason that may yet again change his life...
Yet another flaccid warrior-porn novel by Matt Rogers: locales and names change, but the rest of it is a repeat of earlier novels - bad guys (drug lords, sadistic killers, power/money-hungry big cheeses) in exotic locations doing bad things (drug dealing, taking over towns/prisons, exploiting underclasses) for self-enrichment.
For what I call warrior-porn, Matt Rogers writes with a serious lack of detail about weapons, and his warrior, Jason King, might as well be the creation of Rob Loblaw (Arrested Development): nothing new nor original, and always predictable - the good guy will win against absurd odds just to save the day and silently walk away. Where is Jack Reacher when we need him?
Not sure if I will continue on with the next book in the series since maudlin seems to be as good as it gets. At least the narration is good. But I can only take so many big-hairy-man stories before I will scream.
Sorry Matt Rogers, I wish I could say nice things about your writing. I trust that in time it WILL improve. Hang in there.
Jason King is in Corsica, owned an affluent bunglow and a bar. But his peaceful life turns awry when his former employer sends their top operative, Will Slater, to kill him. It's followed by pages and pages of action which I keep skipping because they weren't adding anything to the story. Then like Batman vs Superman they become friends and fight a common enemy, a local criminal who's doing something sinister in the island. Won't name it here as it might turn into a spoiler but it's something very unimaginative and has been done a lot. The first book in the series, Isolated, was really good but it's all downhill from there. I'm not going to give up on the series yet though and might try next after some time.
I really enjoy Jason King and look forward to the next book. This one introduced another Black Force member, one sent to kill Jason, but who became a good friend instead. Together they killed every person who was involved in human trafficking, and they all deserved it.
Only fade-to-black sex and a promise of things to come when Jason was finished with his work. The F-bomb was used 50 times.
As for the narration: Roger Wayne is a wonderful narration for this kind of book.
Nice and short and full (well, for the last two-thirds) of action and drama. A slow start, but Jason found a pal, which was good to see. Strange end to the book, after killing all the baddies, to go and meet his dad and then ask to go back to work for Black Force. Let's see where this leads in the next book in the series.
He writes in real flowing style with great action. Ive enjoyed his others. But this was just too absurdly implausible. Needed a strong editor cos it needn't have fallen into the absurd gaffs it pursued that spoilt an otherwise great story.
You hope and pray that King will survive and just maybe settle down.....the anticipation and struggle gets your gut churning ahhhh off to Betrayed (next book) I go. The title has me worried
I am totally enjoying this series. This book has endless action, a little romance, and is an all-around fun read. I am bing-reading the series on audio. I listen to it in the car to and from work. I don't mind getting stuck in traffic at all!
Retired, living the life, a chance encounter and everything blows apart. Like a magnet Jason only gets a brief respite before trouble lands on him once again!!!
Jason has finally learned how to relax. He bought himself a villa, owns a bar. Everything seems copestic until an old enemy appear and the new major/governor decided to put a monkey wrench in stuff. Why oh why can't people leave things alone.
Jason King is again trying to live a peaceful retirement, but is soon upto his neck in trouble again. Good book again, best of series so far, with an interesting new character.
This is a continuation of the nonstop action but it takes place in Corsica in the Mediterranean. I was surprised that Jason knew his father was there and they had sort of a reunion.
A very good off the grid "Black-Op" series of events by one Jason King. This is violence personified, intense bloody violence. Jason is a mind trained to kill effortlessly and quickly. I like this series because it doesn't get bogged down with useless pratter. We've all read stories concerning mercenaries from all over the world. So you expect the same plots, but with different scenarios, but Jason King Series is different you'll feel it as you read about him. I say, read this series, you won't be disappointed.
