“Intriguing, compelling and thoroughly entertaining.” Clithroe Advertiser
This is a fast-paced thriller that will have you turning the pages till the action-packed finale.

THE SETTING: Garton is a fictional port city in the north of England. It’s faced years of industrial decline, but a strong community spirit and sense of humour give hope of revival. But there are still pockets of rundown inner-city criminality.
PREY is the third in a series of best-selling thrillers. Great for fans of Sarah Flint, Paul Finch. Kathy Reichs, Angela Marsons, and Patricia Cornwell.
THIS IS A REVISED EDITION OF THE BOOK FIRST PUBLISHED AS "THE GOD SLAYER"
DR HANNAH NIGHTINGALE SERIES Book 1: THE TOYBREAKER Book 2: ANGER MAN Book 3: PREY Book 4: VENGEANCE
This the 3rd installment in the series, is a good story that is well executed. Has a great start and another exciting climatic ending. But for me a smallish section in the middle seemed to drag a little, at least compared to the pace of the first 2 books. Therefore, I have only awarded 4 stars this time. If I or anyone else read it as a standalone it is possibly in the realms of a 5-star rating. But as the third book in this fantastic series it has left me a little disappointed.
Apologies if this review sounds negative, but I say again it is a great stand alone and other people may not be so niggled as I was. Part of the problem is that the first 2 books are exceptional and to be honest deserve more than 5 stars. I have started the 4th book and so far, back up to standard.
PREY a fast-paced thriller by Roy Chester is the third in a new series of crime thrillers which can be read as standalone books. Having recently read and reviewed the first two book in this series, 'The Toy Breaker' and “Anger Man” I was anxious to read this.

The setting for this novel is in the fictional city of Garton in the north west of England.
A rabbi is found murdered. Someone has carved a religious symbol into his flesh and driven a lance through his heart.
Profiler Dr. Hannah Nightingale is certain that a wacko is on the loose. More religious leaders are coming to Garton for a conference, so Nightingale and Detective David Mallory and DCI Gary Falcon are on their guard. Is the killer out to attack all faiths and promote evil?
Will Dr. Hannah Nightingale be able to stop this evil serial killer before he attacks again? Is she even safe?
Three people are under suspicion: a vicar; a student who has suffered childhood abuse; and a resentful young actress.
A thrilling book with plenty of twists and turns to satisfy the reader and believable characters. I'm looking forward to no. 4 in the series: Vengeance, which is next on my list.
Thank you Netgalley, Joffe Books and Roy Chester for the ARC.
This is the 3rd book in the Hannah Nightingale series by Roy Chester that I have read. Wonderfully written with a thrilling premise, this story centres around the serial killings of various religious leaders in Garton and an upcoming high profile religious conference. Added into the mix is the hunt for a hidden historical Jewish artifact and the secret organisation charged with it's protection. What adds an even heightened sense of tension throughout the novel is that Hannah has come to the attention of the killer who wants to involve her in the "great finale". What will happen to her and can they stop the killer in time? Wonderfully created characters that draw your attention and leave you feeling everything that they are ....... with one exception. And now the cons 😕. Although this is a series, each of the books can be read alone which is great for readers who dip in a little further down the track BUT for readers who follow from the start it's IMMENSELY annoying to have the same background descriptions and phrases repeated in EVERY book. Also, for the life of me I just can't connect with the character Hannah Nightingale - she comes across as speaking down to the police, almost like a teacher who thinks her students are idiots. Also she's so wishy washy with her profiling she seems to be pulling her recommendations out her butt!! Seriously, the police could make better profiles of the killers. As such I don't think I'll be reading any more in the series. Hannah quite frankly gets on my t@#s!!!!
A rabbi has been murdered and someone has carved a religious symbol into his flesh and driven a lance through his heart.
There are more religious leaders coming for a high-profile conference. More religious people die in bizarre and disturbing ways. Will criminal profiler Hannah Nightingale find the killer?
I liked this gripping thriller from beginning to end.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Joffe Books and the author Roy Chester for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Prey is the third book in the Dr Hannah Nightingale series and another edge of your seat read.
I have to admit I have a bit of a fascination when it comes to anything religious. It usually makes for some really intriguing reading. The case that Hannah and Mallory find themselves working on is certainly anything but straight forward. I enjoyed reading and learning as the lead characters have to investigate different parts to do with religious symbols and artefacts
There are definitely some twists and turns as like the police, we lean towards different suspects. When all becomes clear just who is behind it all, well you could have knocked me over with a feather. It then becomes a race against time to stop them and oh boy that ending! Will definitely keep you on your toes.
Prey is another nail biting, page turner of a read. The build up towards the end was almost electrifying and it's left me desperate to see what happens next after getting a bit of a taster at the end of what happens in the next book. A solid and dependable crime series.
Prey by Roy Chester is a mystery and thriller read. Those who pray become the prey of a dark and disturbed mind. But there are still pockets of rundown inner-city criminality. Another absolutely fantastic read from Roy with brilliant characters. I love this series. Hannah is still my favourite character. Full of twists and plots. I liked the ending too. Highly recommended. 5*. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book from netgalley.
This was my first Hannah Davenport title and I think I would like to read more of Roy Chester. Although this is the third book in the series, I have had no problems with getting to know the characters and their backgrounds. What more, the author doesn't bother the reader all the time with telling what happened in the first two books. Prey is a solid and sometimes gripping thriller for those who like books where old religions and modern criminals play a role. From the beginning the reader gets little bits of information to try and complete the puzzle before the characters in the book do. This is nice, it keeps the reader entertained.
Not bad but not great. Maybe it's that I haven't read the 1st 2 books, but I don't think so.
I found there to be too much superfluous background details on the characters - such as the whole section on the main characters grandmother, who was not mentioned again.
There also was too much dialog explaining basic details that the other characters would clearly know. Not a writing style that kept me engaged, though I kept going all the way through the anti-climactic ending.
Not sure I will read another of this series or author.
Book 3. Dr Hannah Nightingale series. This book has it all and this series quickly gets its hooks in to you. I’ve read the first 3 books pretty much back to back. I’m enjoying the stories and the writing style of Roy Cheater. I feel invested now in this series and a need to continue reading the series. I would say this could be read as a standalone but for me I need to say a series is always better read in order. This flt like. Quick an easy read.
Hannah Nightingale is asked to assist Garton Police after a Rabbi is murdered. But more deaths follow and Hannah finds herself the target of a seriously deranged person. These books keep getting better and better. The characters are becoming stronger and the story moves along at breakneck speed. Recommended.
A good crime thriller. Fairly predictable, but entertaining. The police are selling a killer of religious leaders, and they need their consulting psychologist Hannah Nightingale because all of the suspects suffer from various psychological issues, particularly around their relationship with religion.
This is a roller coaster of a story that grips you by the throat and runs with you, and what an ending, I couldn't put it down, but at times didn't want to carry on reading, If you like your books to be scary murder, then Roy Chester is the Author to read, great characters, great story.
I enjoyed the first two books in this series immensely. This one, however, I thought dragged slightly and the narrative was quite repetitive in places. Having said that, the climax was exciting-albeit highly unbelievable! Probably 3.5 stars but certainly not 4.
These are enjoyable enough but I find the characters lack personality and do not have any flaws, something I consider an important and identifiable character trait. Hannah comes across as too good to be plausible.
Good thrilling story which was let down by a regular misspelling of a name - is it Debbie or Debby?! Just irked me enough to not give 5 stars. Otherwise enjoyable and read it in a few sittings. Now on to the next one!
Another brilliant book in the Hanna nightingale and Mallory series, this is the third book I have read in this series and ok once again e hat a rollercoaster of a ride the books just keep giving and giving, getting better each novel, it's almost an UN putter down able book I have lost sleep reading these books I genuinely don't want to put it down I just have to know eh as t-shirts coming next and nothing predictable it's just keeps flowing from page to page, chapter to chapter, I definitely w would recommend this book along with the first two in the series. Roy Chester novels keep you guessing right to the very end, fast paced easy reading exiting, you name it this books got it. If I had one little criticism and its so minor, I just wish the books would not end by him putting The end. It just reminds me of when I read far I r tails as a child each one had the end when it was finished and for me and me alone I find it a little of putting. However we all have our own little annoying title bits and pet hates and that's just one of mine, DO NOT BE PUT OF BY MY LITTLE IRRIGATION, These books deserve to be read by anyone who appreciate good physiologic thrillers. Roy Chester is most definitely on his way up th here with the big big names. Thank you so much for bringing me 3 excellent books. Now I am going on to number 4 in the series please read these books otherwise you are missing out
Having recently read and reviewed the first two books in this series, 'The Toy Breaker' and 'The Anger Man', I was keen to read this.
I liked the detective team centred around detectives Mallory and Falcon. Add into the mix Hannah Nightingale as a criminal profiler and you have an intriguing mix.
For this third outing the team are trying to find a ritual murderer. I liked the use of religion which forms the back-drop to this tale.
First the death of a Rabbi. Caught on CCTV; this should be an easy one to solve.
Then a second secular murder, then a third.
Anti-Semitic? Anti-Muslim? Anti- Christian?
Or is there something even deeper?
Three suspects are slowly introduced into the mix. Then one of them is also found dead. Then another dies too.
The story builds to a tense stand-off between Hannah Nightingale and the real perpetrator.
This is an enjoyable and well-crafted novel. I wonder if there will be further stories featuring this team?
My thanks to Netgalley and Joffe Books for a copy in exchange for this honest review.
The 3rd Hannah Nightingale book is gripping. Hannah, the police consultant profiler, and David Mallory, the lead detective, are involved in the bizarre case of religious killings. As a conference of religious leaders has come to town, they are killed off one by one and the team are in a frantic race to find the fanatic killer, who, according to a shell shocked witness, is dressed as a medieval warrior monk. I found the parts where the author discusses some of the ancient warrior monk sects fascinating and again, enjoyed the main characters. Thank you Netgalley, Joffe Books and Roy Chester for the ARC.
A rabbi is murdered in the grounds of a synagogue with an old medieval spear by a person dressed for the part. Is this the beginning of an anti-Jewish spree?
But no, an interfaith conference is taking place in the town and more murders are committed. The next victim is Muslim.
Dr. Hannah Nightingale and DI Mallory are on the tail of the killer.
While this is the first of Roy Chester’s novels that I have read, it certainly won’t be the last. A most excellent read and I truly enjoyed it.
Thanks to Roy Chester and Joffe Books for allowing me permission to read this book.
Hannah Nightingale has her work cut out to stop this latest killer, and as always there's plenty of twists and turns as the story unfolds. As Hannah works alongside Detectives David Mallory and Gary Falcon solving this puzzle, religious leaders being killed in bizarre ways.
Unfortunately, the proofreading has slipped again! This, the third in the Hannah Nightingale series, is formulaic - mad serial killer; Hannah does psychological profiling; big showdown at the end of the novel. The book feels plodding and repetitive.
